00:00:03I've been just holding on for dear life.
00:00:06Eight brave Australians
00:00:07Oh, this is hectic.
00:00:09Don't look down.
00:00:10Continued on the ultimate search and rescue mission.
00:00:13My body's been pushed to its physical limits.
00:00:18To free their teammates.
00:00:20The answer should be right in front of me.
00:00:22And win a share in $100,000.
00:00:25Hustle, babe.
00:00:26Oh, dear.
00:00:27After the most gruelling leg yet.
00:00:29I am bitterly cold.
00:00:31I have no energy left.
00:00:33No one saw this coming.
00:00:35Andrew.
00:00:36We've got to keep going, mate.
00:00:38You've got to be fucking kidding me.
00:00:40They've already been going for 24 hours.
00:00:42We've reset the clock.
00:00:44And they need to go again.
00:00:46Without a break.
00:00:47Oh, my God.
00:00:48I am devastated.
00:00:50Will the fatigue be too much to overcome?
00:00:52I have literally nothing left in the tank.
00:00:55Or can they keep going?
00:00:57I'm done.
00:00:58Like I'm really done.
00:00:59And pull off.
00:01:00The ultimate escape.
00:01:01After 24 hours on the go.
00:01:02The clock has been reset.
00:01:04And eight rescuers have to continue for another 24 hours.
00:01:10We've got to keep going, mate.
00:01:11You've got to be fucking kidding me.
00:01:13It's like being kicked in the guts.
00:01:15And I honestly do not know how I'm going to do this.
00:01:16You ready to go again?
00:01:17Is that what we're doing?
00:01:18That's what we're doing.
00:01:19That's what we're doing.
00:01:20Let reset the clock.
00:01:21I am like, I don't have much left.
00:01:22You want to go through with it?
00:01:23I'm cold and I'm wet and I just...
00:01:24I don't know if I can...
00:01:25go on more.
00:01:26I don't know if I can go on more.
00:01:27You know what it is.
00:01:28I don't know.
00:01:29You know what it is.
00:01:30I'm cold and I'm wet and I just...
00:01:34I'm here to support whatever you decide, huh?
00:01:35It's like I have to be.
00:01:36You know what I'm doing.
00:01:37And if you're back in the lane I don't know what I'm doing.
00:01:40I don't know what I'm doing.
00:01:41I just...
00:01:43I just want to go through with it.
00:01:47And you just want to go through with it?
00:01:53I'm cold and I'm wet and I just...
00:01:56I don't know if I can go on more.
00:01:58I believe in you.
00:01:59I honestly think that you can do it.
00:02:01I'm here to support whatever you decide, honey.
00:02:03Whatever you decide, hon.
00:02:05Yeah.
00:02:07I don't want to keep going, but my husband is relying on me,
00:02:12and just hearing his voice just gives me that little bit of strength
00:02:16that I need to get to the next point.
00:02:18What do you need from me?
00:02:20All right.
00:02:22There is a gearbox which contains food north along the river.
00:02:27OK, I'll head to the next gearbox, and I'll talk to you soon.
00:02:31OK.
00:02:32Thank you. I love you.
00:02:39I don't know how I'm going to do this.
00:02:42I'm just going to try and make it to the next gearbox
00:02:44and then see what happens.
00:02:48But I want to get out of the rain.
00:02:54I know you're tired. I know you're sore.
00:02:56I know you're cold. Just go as quick as you can.
00:02:58I've got you, darling. Let's get it.
00:03:00It's bloody freezing, but that's all right. I'll just keep moving.
00:03:03I love you. All right. Keep going.
00:03:07Physically and mentally starting to struggle,
00:03:09but the quicker we can get through this, the quicker I'll see soon.
00:03:14Off I go.
00:03:14The rescuers remain near Lake Wanaka in New Zealand's South Island.
00:03:20They're now making their way towards food.
00:03:22From there, they'll head through a dense beach forest.
00:03:27Then, it's a brutal trek alongside the Matukituki River
00:03:31before a race to the rendezvous point on a lake shore 42 kilometres away.
00:03:36Journalist Peter is leading the way to the food.
00:03:44Food is absolutely essential.
00:03:47Nutrition is the thing. Energy here is what we need.
00:03:51I can feel my body starting to slim down,
00:03:54but that also means that the energy levels,
00:03:56the energy reserves are also running low.
00:03:58But I'm not going to let my brother down.
00:04:01I will keep going. I am not quitting.
00:04:06I'm cold, wet, hungry,
00:04:08and I'm feeling really, really defeated.
00:04:12But I know that I have to keep going,
00:04:15try to get to food,
00:04:17to survive and make it through the next 24 hours.
00:04:20Having to push through when I'm, like, soaking wet
00:04:25definitely makes it harder.
00:04:26But mentally, I'm strong enough to give everything a go,
00:04:30especially, like, after going through
00:04:31what we went through with my mum.
00:04:34In November 2021,
00:04:35my wife was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
00:04:38While it was a really hard time for us as a family,
00:04:41that diagnosis taught us to appreciate the moments
00:04:44and appreciate each other.
00:04:45My mum's really strong, driven and capable,
00:04:48and she really inspires me.
00:04:50I really want to make her proud.
00:04:55I know that I definitely want to win,
00:04:57so I'm doing this for Darren and my mum
00:04:59and to prove to myself what I'm capable of.
00:05:08I definitely did not see that clock restart coming.
00:05:11That put me in a real bad mental state
00:05:13very, very quickly.
00:05:15But I try and silence the doubt
00:05:17because when I am thinking positively,
00:05:19I get the best out of myself.
00:05:22I got diagnosed with depression
00:05:23probably about 18 months ago.
00:05:26I'm in a really, really good place now,
00:05:28and that comes from having friends like Alex.
00:05:29It is so helpful just to be able to open up
00:05:32to your best mates when you need to.
00:05:33It's not a sign of weakness.
00:05:35It's what mates are for,
00:05:36and guys out there really need to dive into that a lot more.
00:05:41Obviously, I've got to push on,
00:05:43but I can't imagine Alex being stuck in that box for so long.
00:05:47After many days in the hole,
00:05:54the captives are struggling with the effects of complete isolation.
00:05:59The room is really doing something to me.
00:06:01I think being in here for days,
00:06:03it's adding up,
00:06:04and it's just non-stop.
00:06:06Like, it's the same thing over and over.
00:06:09And it's brutal.
00:06:15I'm so detached from everything that Nico's doing out there.
00:06:19I see a red GPS dot on my screen,
00:06:23and my only conversation is telling Nico where to go,
00:06:28hoping that the satellite phone doesn't drop out.
00:06:31It's monotonous boredom.
00:06:32I'm so exhausted.
00:06:41I don't want to be in here.
00:06:43I've got nothing to do.
00:06:46I'm going to go crazy.
00:06:50But,
00:06:51Ry's freezing cold.
00:06:52He was freezing cold when I spoke to him last.
00:06:55But he's strong.
00:06:56He'll be okay.
00:06:57I'll just have to do everything I can
00:06:59to get him to the rendezvous point.
00:07:01So,
00:07:01I need to stay positive
00:07:03so I can get right
00:07:04a good headspace to do this,
00:07:06because he's going to be so tired.
00:07:15After the end of a five-kilometre hike,
00:07:18Peter, Anna, and Millie
00:07:19are the first to reach the food gearbox.
00:07:22They haven't eaten for over 12 hours
00:07:25and need food to survive this leg.
00:07:28Oh, shit.
00:07:29Oh, fucking hell.
00:07:33Nothing's ever that simple, is it?
00:07:35I see the gearbox
00:07:36and it is massively hot.
00:07:39And I'm not sure I can do it.
00:07:41How are you climbing trees?
00:07:44Not very good.
00:07:45We need food.
00:07:46I've got no energy to get that,
00:07:49but I need that.
00:07:50There's no choice.
00:07:51We've got to get it.
00:07:51There's a gearbox
00:07:52right at the top of the tree
00:07:53and I've seen ropes and shit everywhere.
00:07:56But I know I definitely need to get to the food
00:07:58so that I have something to eat tonight.
00:07:59OK, so we've got to pull this tight.
00:08:05Then we're going to have to traverse across that high rope
00:08:08and to get over to the other tree.
00:08:12So these are classic loops.
00:08:17They're loops.
00:08:19These knots are designed to go up but not down.
00:08:22So we can climb up the rope and not slide back.
00:08:26I think as soon as we arrived there together,
00:08:28we knew there was no way we were going to do it individually.
00:08:31We were going to do that together.
00:08:32So who wants to go?
00:08:34I'm happy to go.
00:08:35Yeah?
00:08:36Yeah.
00:08:37Millie seems up for it,
00:08:39so it means that I don't have to burn up energy on that.
00:08:42It's better to leave that to the onions
00:08:43with their extra reserves.
00:08:45OK, so put this hand around there.
00:08:51That's it.
00:08:52As a stand, push this up.
00:08:54Yeah.
00:08:55That's it.
00:08:56Now sit.
00:08:57Bring that up.
00:08:59Millie seems really very competent.
00:09:02Climbing, it's hard work.
00:09:04And it's mostly upper body work.
00:09:06But she's also very, very determined.
00:09:08That's it.
00:09:11That's it.
00:09:13Sit now.
00:09:13And as...
00:09:15That's it.
00:09:15You take the weight off your leg.
00:09:17Take each step count.
00:09:19I decided to go up the tree for all three of us to get our food
00:09:22because I felt like I had enough energy too.
00:09:24And I know Darren would want me to help out other people
00:09:26and we're all against the clock.
00:09:29That's it.
00:09:29That's exactly the way to go.
00:09:31That's right.
00:09:31If that leg gets tired, you can swap it round.
00:09:34Yeah.
00:09:41Oh.
00:09:41It's the hard work on my arms.
00:09:44You're nearly there, mate.
00:09:47My upper body's really sore because I'm not very strong.
00:09:50Where'd it go, Mill?
00:09:52I'm not sure how I'm going to get myself across
00:09:54and then open the gearbox and get the food out.
00:09:57Hang in there.
00:09:59Oh, this is real hard.
00:10:00As you get further along, it's going to get...
00:10:04It should get easier.
00:10:05It's going to get easier, Mill.
00:10:08I'm just completely stuck.
00:10:11Fuck's sake!
00:10:12After a tough 24-hour journey, the clock has been reset
00:10:24and the eight rescuers are continuing without a break.
00:10:28At the first gearbox, Millie is struggling to reach the food.
00:10:33Fuck's sake!
00:10:34Powerful, Mill.
00:10:35Almost there.
00:10:36Keep going.
00:10:36My arms hurt, my legs hurt, and I'm so tired.
00:10:40Not sure how I'm going to get myself across.
00:10:42Super strong, mate.
00:10:43I'm just completely stuck.
00:10:44Almost there, Mill.
00:10:45Keep going.
00:10:46Good stuff.
00:10:47That's it, Mill.
00:10:47Yeah, nice.
00:10:48A little push.
00:10:49Dig deep.
00:10:51You're nearly there, mate.
00:10:52Almost there.
00:10:52Come on.
00:10:53Good stuff, Mill.
00:10:57Well done.
00:10:58Well done, mate.
00:11:00Just grab three, Millie.
00:11:02Yep.
00:11:02Anna says she's hungry.
00:11:05There'd better be a lot of food in there.
00:11:07This has cost me quite a bit of energy,
00:11:08but there's food in the bag that I've got,
00:11:11so it's worth it.
00:11:17Woo-hoo!
00:11:18Oh, uncliffed me.
00:11:20Good job, Millie.
00:11:21Good job.
00:11:22Well done.
00:11:22Oh, thanks.
00:11:23Good job.
00:11:24You must be...
00:11:25Oh, those forearms are yours.
00:11:26Gearbox Revealed contains energy gels.
00:11:36They will be awesome.
00:11:38You can decide if they eat this now or save for later.
00:11:41Definitely going to stick them aside
00:11:42so Millie's got something for the morning.
00:11:48Darren?
00:11:49Did you get your food?
00:11:50Yeah, I had to climb across a rope to get food
00:11:52for me and a couple other people.
00:11:54I get that.
00:11:55As long as you've got some food.
00:11:56So the next gearbox is about three kilometres south,
00:12:00south-east.
00:12:00Another gearbox?
00:12:01Yeah, that's right.
00:12:02Yep.
00:12:02There's some energy gels.
00:12:04All right.
00:12:05Same side as the river that you're on,
00:12:07but on the southern side of that rock face.
00:12:09We've got 26k to go after this.
00:12:11OK, no worries.
00:12:12Thanks, mate.
00:12:16Did you find the food?
00:12:17Yeah, yeah.
00:12:18Found the food.
00:12:18Found the food.
00:12:19Oh, thank God.
00:12:20Where do I need to be?
00:12:22So there's another gearbox with energy gels.
00:12:25You have to keep going down the river south-west?
00:12:29Wait.
00:12:30It's around this, like, big rock structure.
00:12:33When you say rock structure, do you mean mountain?
00:12:36Yeah.
00:12:37It's quite high.
00:12:38Kind of looks like a mountain.
00:12:39Yeah.
00:12:40OK, so I'm just going south along the river for now,
00:12:42and then...
00:12:46Sick.
00:12:47I hope that made sense.
00:12:50A rock structure?
00:12:51I don't know what a rock structure is.
00:12:53I don't know if she means...
00:12:54Does Marnie mean a mountain?
00:12:56Like, what is a rock structure?
00:12:59Mountain?
00:12:59Does that look like a mountain?
00:13:02I'm genuinely concerned about the directions from Marnie.
00:13:07I just want to get moving.
00:13:09Oh!
00:13:13Kai has reached the food
00:13:15and has volunteered to help Ashley and Geoff get theirs as well.
00:13:19You're doing so good, Kai.
00:13:20I know, you're almost there.
00:13:21Keep going, mate.
00:13:22Absolutely smash it.
00:13:24We've got Geoff and Ash.
00:13:25They've got no rope knowledge and experience,
00:13:28and being an ex-climbing instructor,
00:13:30this one's going to be on me.
00:13:31Getting close now, mate.
00:13:34Well done, Kai.
00:13:35Yes!
00:13:36Woo!
00:13:37You are a superstar.
00:13:39There is no way that I could have done this individually,
00:13:42so I'm glad that we were able to team up for this.
00:13:45Oh, thanks, guys.
00:13:46I am exhausted.
00:13:53Hey, honey.
00:13:54Hello, my love.
00:13:55How are you?
00:13:55Still cold.
00:13:56Can't wait to eat.
00:13:58I got food.
00:13:59Oh, good.
00:14:00Took you a while to get there.
00:14:03Yep.
00:14:04Um, okay, we're heading to the next gearbox,
00:14:07and that contains energy gels.
00:14:11Okay, great.
00:14:12We're going to head southeast along the river,
00:14:15about five k's.
00:14:16Yep.
00:14:17And you may come into contact with a bit of a mountain.
00:14:22Yep.
00:14:23Or a rock face.
00:14:26Okay.
00:14:27I can't even tell you how many kilometres that I have tracked in the last few days.
00:14:33I have nothing left.
00:14:37My body is already exhausted.
00:14:40Wow.
00:14:41All right.
00:14:42Let's just try and find the least deepest part to cross.
00:14:47Another trek.
00:14:50And then climbing is the last thing that I want to do right now.
00:14:54I just don't know how I'm going to do it.
00:15:00Mate, this is unreal.
00:15:02You're almost there, brother.
00:15:03Yeah, there you go.
00:15:04Two left, mate.
00:15:06You are a lifesaver.
00:15:07One of these are for you.
00:15:10Okay, I need you to head southeast.
00:15:12Yep.
00:15:13Follow the river for approximately five kilometres.
00:15:15One of these are for you.
00:15:26After collecting food,
00:15:28all the rescuers are now making their way to the energy gels
00:15:31in much better weather conditions.
00:15:34New Zealand is weather.
00:15:36It's just absolutely unpredictable.
00:15:37You've got to make hay while the sun shines
00:15:39and you've really got to try and move in those moments.
00:15:41Peter is the first to arrive at the cliff face
00:15:47and begins the steep climb to the energy gels.
00:15:51There's a big cliff in front of me
00:15:53and it looks like this is going to be quite a climb.
00:15:59I'm feeling tired, but okay.
00:16:01The trouble is I have no idea how high this thing goes.
00:16:04How far do I have to climb?
00:16:06I don't have an answer to that.
00:16:08I've just got to keep going.
00:16:17I used to climb it when I was younger
00:16:20and I know how much things that feel as easy as pie
00:16:25at ground level become terrifyingly dangerous 100 metres up.
00:16:30I keep telling myself
00:16:35this is like climbing a ladder to the top bunk of a bed.
00:16:38All I need to do is keep adding those bunks.
00:16:43My legs are giving out.
00:16:45My legs are like jelly.
00:16:46My forearms are starting to feel like they're blowing out.
00:16:51If I go too much further,
00:16:53then I could be in trouble.
00:16:54Okay.
00:17:11Okay, my brother said energy gel.
00:17:14I swear,
00:17:16I've burnt up twice as much energy
00:17:18just getting up here
00:17:19as I'll get out of this thing.
00:17:24Hello.
00:17:27Hi, mate.
00:17:27How are you going?
00:17:28Well, I've got two things to say.
00:17:30Yeah?
00:17:31The view is stunning.
00:17:32Absolutely fucking stunning.
00:17:34But it was a killer.
00:17:36But I got the gel and I'm at the gearbox.
00:17:38Oh, well done to you.
00:17:40You've just got to find a nice comfy spot to camp
00:17:43and try and get some valuable rest.
00:17:45Yeah, no, I will.
00:17:46I know, I know.
00:17:47It's been a hell of a long day.
00:17:49You there?
00:17:49Yeah.
00:17:54Hello?
00:17:58Stuntwoman Kai has made up valuable time
00:18:01and is the second rescuer
00:18:03to begin the climb to the energy gels.
00:18:05I love scaling sheer cliffs
00:18:07in my own recreational time,
00:18:10but I can't rush up this mountain
00:18:12or so it's just going to kill me.
00:18:14I think my rock climbing experience
00:18:16is really coming in handy.
00:18:18I'm just trying to do it how I would climb,
00:18:19and that is getting as much rest on my feet whenever I can.
00:18:25It's like an elephant.
00:18:28You don't need it all at once.
00:18:30I am just making sure that every footfall is safe.
00:18:35One foot out of place and you're rolling
00:18:37and you're not stopping until you get to the bottom.
00:18:41This track's probably one of the most challenging
00:18:43I've done in years.
00:18:44I'm most worried about fatigue
00:18:48and having the back-to-back legs
00:18:51and it being such a long stint for Kai.
00:18:54Here's my gearbox.
00:18:56I don't know.
00:18:57Whatever's in it is going to be worth
00:18:59the calories I just burned.
00:19:01But, you know what?
00:19:03It's what we do.
00:19:07Four more rescuers
00:19:08are making the tough climb
00:19:10to the energy gels.
00:19:11I'm trying to work my way to the top,
00:19:14but it's pretty much just straight up.
00:19:16It's just absolutely brutal.
00:19:27Say hello to the top of the mountain.
00:19:30You're on top of the mountain?
00:19:32That's crazy.
00:19:33I'm all good.
00:19:34But thank you so much.
00:19:35This gearbox is perfect.
00:19:37These gels are going to come in handy.
00:19:38I love it.
00:19:41Hundreds of kilometres away,
00:19:47Marnie is questioning
00:19:48her navigation skills.
00:19:51I think it's really important
00:19:52to recognise, you know,
00:19:54where you have shortfalls.
00:19:56And, yeah, mine
00:19:57are definitely in navigating,
00:20:02which is quite concerning
00:20:03considering the person
00:20:04that I care about
00:20:05is relying on me.
00:20:06Onwards and upwards.
00:20:11Where's this energy gel at?
00:20:14They are quite literally
00:20:15the worst directions
00:20:18I've had to date.
00:20:20Still just following the river.
00:20:23Just hoping I run into this rock thing.
00:20:27Whatever that means.
00:20:29Having concise and clear
00:20:31directions and instructions
00:20:33is everything.
00:20:36That way.
00:20:37That way.
00:20:40Shit.
00:20:42It is so hard to, like,
00:20:45stay sharp,
00:20:45like, mentally agile
00:20:47in this environment.
00:20:48There's just hours upon hours
00:20:50of just, like,
00:20:52nothingness.
00:20:53I think they should be okay.
00:20:55But I don't know
00:20:56how they're going to get around
00:20:56that big rock thing.
00:20:59It's literally so close.
00:21:02But when you have a dingus
00:21:04for a navigator,
00:21:06then things get a little bit trickier.
00:21:09I love her,
00:21:10but the instructions are so shit.
00:21:13I don't actually know where to go.
00:21:15It's probably pretty lucky.
00:21:16But I see the gearbox.
00:21:20At this point,
00:21:21I'm fatigued,
00:21:22I'm hungry,
00:21:23my feet are wet,
00:21:24I feel like crap.
00:21:27Nothing's as simple
00:21:29as you think it's going to be.
00:21:31Get a direction.
00:21:32Well,
00:21:33this is super, super brutal.
00:21:36I'm really doubting myself.
00:21:38After competing
00:21:51for well over 30 hours straight...
00:21:53My hands are killing me.
00:21:56Anna,
00:21:56in second last place,
00:21:58is trying to reach
00:21:59the much-needed energy gels.
00:22:01It's so much harder than it looks,
00:22:04and it looks fucking hard.
00:22:05Oh, it just keeps going.
00:22:07Fucking hell.
00:22:10You've got this, Anna.
00:22:13Let's keep going.
00:22:15Oh.
00:22:17Okay.
00:22:19Oh.
00:22:21Oh.
00:22:24It's really hard
00:22:25knowing that they're out there
00:22:27suffering.
00:22:29I just need to keep
00:22:30making sure that
00:22:30I'm on top of things.
00:22:33Yeah.
00:22:34All right.
00:22:36Rock.
00:22:39Oh.
00:22:41I'm so scared of heights
00:22:43that
00:22:43I'm saying it to myself,
00:22:45just a really big tree,
00:22:47and it works.
00:22:49Wow.
00:22:51That is seriously fucked up.
00:22:52It's going to be the best energy gel
00:22:58I've ever had
00:22:58in my entire life.
00:23:02Oh.
00:23:05Oh.
00:23:06Oh.
00:23:10It's so good
00:23:11getting there.
00:23:12I just can't believe
00:23:13I've done it.
00:23:14Hi, Mom.
00:23:18Are you at the energy gels?
00:23:20I am at the energy gels.
00:23:21You know that rock thing
00:23:22you were talking about?
00:23:24Yeah.
00:23:24I was going to ask you
00:23:25how you got across there.
00:23:26Climbed up it
00:23:26with a rope.
00:23:28But,
00:23:29mate,
00:23:29it was,
00:23:30that was a struggle.
00:23:31Like,
00:23:32massive struggle.
00:23:33I can imagine.
00:23:34How are you doing?
00:23:35Are you okay?
00:23:36Yeah, yeah,
00:23:36I'm okay.
00:23:37I'm just,
00:23:38obviously,
00:23:38you've been going at this
00:23:39for a while.
00:23:41So,
00:23:42yeah,
00:23:43whatever you need,
00:23:44let me know.
00:23:45I just need some,
00:23:46like,
00:23:47what would Marnie do motivation.
00:23:49I've got nothing left in me.
00:23:51Oh, no.
00:23:54Fuck me.
00:23:58Ashley is in last place,
00:24:00and time is running out
00:24:02for her to make it
00:24:02to the energy gels
00:24:03while it is still light.
00:24:05I can see the gearbox
00:24:06up on that cliff there.
00:24:09That means I've got to go up there
00:24:10and get it.
00:24:12That worries me.
00:24:15Climbing is the last thing
00:24:17that I want to do right now.
00:24:19My body is already sore,
00:24:21and the fact that
00:24:21I'm about to embark
00:24:23on another very
00:24:24physically challenging obstacle,
00:24:27I'm scared.
00:24:30Oh,
00:24:31this is going to stuff me.
00:24:33It's going to take it
00:24:33one step at a time
00:24:34and hopefully get to the top.
00:24:37Come on, baby.
00:24:39What are you doing?
00:24:42It's a bit tricky
00:24:43trying to figure out
00:24:44what's going on.
00:24:45She's been in the same spot
00:24:47for a little while.
00:24:48I don't know.
00:24:51I just hope she's okay.
00:24:52My arms just can't
00:24:59hold myself.
00:25:04I'm conscious of the clock,
00:25:06but after the last few days,
00:25:08I don't have anything
00:25:10left to give.
00:25:12I'm physically tired,
00:25:13and I'm questioning myself
00:25:15and my abilities.
00:25:15the time
00:25:18goes to the back
00:25:18of my mind,
00:25:19and I'm just trying
00:25:20to focus on
00:25:20my challenge
00:25:21in front of me.
00:25:22Now's not a great time,
00:25:39darling.
00:25:43Hey, baby.
00:25:44Hi.
00:25:44What are you doing?
00:25:46I'm trying to free climb
00:25:48up rocks
00:25:51to get to the gearbox,
00:25:52and I can't pull myself up.
00:25:54What's holding you back?
00:25:57I physically cannot
00:25:58pull myself up the rope.
00:26:01Babe, you can.
00:26:03You can.
00:26:03Baby, I've been here
00:26:04for half an hour.
00:26:06That's okay.
00:26:07You can do it.
00:26:08It's not about
00:26:09a mental block.
00:26:10I've had a great...
00:26:13Are you there?
00:26:15I'm questioning myself
00:26:24a lot at this point.
00:26:26I just do not feel
00:26:28like I have the experience
00:26:29to do this
00:26:30or the strength
00:26:31to do this.
00:26:33But all of a sudden,
00:26:35I just got this
00:26:36overwhelming feeling
00:26:37of no one's coming
00:26:39to get me,
00:26:40and so I'm going
00:26:40to have to push my body
00:26:41to get to the top.
00:26:45Oh, this is for my babies.
00:26:52So I'm just mentally
00:26:53telling myself,
00:26:54Ash, you've got this.
00:26:56Keep going.
00:26:56You're almost there,
00:26:58because if I'm not
00:26:59telling myself that,
00:27:00I'd probably just stop.
00:27:06Oh.
00:27:07Oh, my goodness.
00:27:18I did it!
00:27:19Yes!
00:27:22The sun is going down.
00:27:23I need to get to a shelter.
00:27:26Well, I just want to talk
00:27:27about this mental...
00:27:28this block for a minute.
00:27:29Ugh.
00:27:31It wasn't a mental block.
00:27:32It was physical...
00:27:34physical restrictions.
00:27:35I was going to try
00:27:36and give you some advice
00:27:38on how to climb it,
00:27:39but you did it, so...
00:27:40I know, I know.
00:27:41Rope climb.
00:27:43You're a pro at it.
00:27:48I don't think Roland
00:27:49does know what I'm going
00:27:50through to rescue him.
00:27:51At this point,
00:27:54I can't even believe
00:27:55that I've gotten
00:27:56as far as I have.
00:27:57The sun is set.
00:27:59I don't have much time left
00:28:00before it's dark,
00:28:02so it's important
00:28:03to get this off
00:28:05and find a nice place
00:28:07to set up for tonight.
00:28:16There's only minutes
00:28:18until sunset,
00:28:19so the rescuers
00:28:20need to find
00:28:21a flat, dry place
00:28:22to set up camp.
00:28:24I think this is my spot.
00:28:26We're reasonably flat.
00:28:27It's not too lumpy.
00:28:30It's sheltered.
00:28:31It's out of the wind here.
00:28:35I have to sleep
00:28:36every chance I get.
00:28:38My key thing is
00:28:39rest and rejuvenation,
00:28:41and if I don't sleep,
00:28:43then that's going to
00:28:43put me behind in the game.
00:28:47I'm using that
00:28:48as almost my clock
00:28:48at the moment,
00:28:49so the top of the mount
00:28:50is almost my curfew
00:28:52to try and get this up
00:28:53because as soon as
00:28:54that shadow reaches
00:28:55the top of that mountain,
00:28:57I think the temperature
00:28:58is going to drop
00:28:58and so is my light,
00:29:00so it probably
00:29:00wouldn't be safe enough
00:29:01to keep going
00:29:02any further tonight,
00:29:03so as frustrating as it is,
00:29:04I need a pull-up shop.
00:29:05I've been going for 30-plus hours.
00:29:16I'm mentally broken.
00:29:19The tank is
00:29:20definitely empty.
00:29:26I feel flat.
00:29:28I feel ruined.
00:29:29At this point,
00:29:36I'm struggling
00:29:37in solitary confinement.
00:29:40I know he's definitely
00:29:41struggling out there.
00:29:43I've got this letter here
00:29:44from Nico.
00:29:45Alex,
00:29:50to form such a tight bond
00:29:52in such a short time
00:29:53is incredible.
00:29:54You're my best mate.
00:29:55I love all the experiences
00:29:56we've had together.
00:29:58I've always been a big believer
00:30:00in surround yourself
00:30:00with the best
00:30:01and you'll become the best.
00:30:03And that is a big reason
00:30:04I like spending
00:30:05so much time with you.
00:30:06Mate, you there?
00:30:13No, I'm here.
00:30:13What's happening?
00:30:14How you feeling, man?
00:30:17Oh, mate.
00:30:18Struggling.
00:30:19But...
00:30:19That's so good, mate.
00:30:20I get you, bro.
00:30:21I get you.
00:30:22You know,
00:30:23I've got your letter here, man.
00:30:24I've just...
00:30:25I've just read it before.
00:30:26Mate, I've meant
00:30:27every word of it.
00:30:28I just can't wait
00:30:29to give you a massive cuddle
00:30:30at the end of all this.
00:30:32That's all I'm pushing for.
00:30:33Mate, likewise.
00:30:35Man, I'm thinking of you out there.
00:30:37I know it's tough
00:30:38and I love you too, bro.
00:30:40I'll just rip in.
00:30:41I know it's hard
00:30:42but we got this.
00:30:46Mate, you there?
00:30:52I needed someone
00:30:53to just give me
00:30:54a bit of positivity.
00:30:55I've been getting
00:30:56inside my own head.
00:30:57Once I start to fixate
00:30:59on the negative,
00:30:59it's so hard to...
00:31:00to pull myself back.
00:31:03And Alex has always
00:31:03been there for me
00:31:04for that reason.
00:31:05He's the first guy
00:31:06who just gets me
00:31:07back in check.
00:31:09I know he's got
00:31:10my back through everything.
00:31:12He's the first person
00:31:13I've come to
00:31:13when I'm happy.
00:31:15He's the first person
00:31:15I've come to
00:31:16when I'm sad.
00:31:18There's a brotherhood there.
00:31:19That is an absolute result.
00:31:25I cannot believe that.
00:31:27To have a bit of warmth,
00:31:28a bit of heat,
00:31:29oh, it just feels like
00:31:30everything's starting
00:31:31to turn a bit.
00:31:32You know, I'm thinking
00:31:33I'm actually going okay
00:31:34out here in the elements.
00:31:36Oh, what an absolute win.
00:31:40I'm telling myself
00:31:40it's not that bad at all.
00:31:41Hello.
00:31:48How are you going, darling?
00:31:50Yeah, I'm good.
00:31:52You're good.
00:31:53You're okay?
00:31:55You're standing a bit flat.
00:31:56What's going on?
00:31:57Yeah, it's not that great.
00:32:02It feels like I'm back
00:32:04in a hospital
00:32:05and they never turn
00:32:07the lights out
00:32:08and you can't get outside.
00:32:10There's no windows.
00:32:16She's thinking
00:32:17she's back in hospital,
00:32:18which is some of the darkest
00:32:20times that we've had together.
00:32:23Our first son was born
00:32:24premature at 31 weeks.
00:32:26We spent a lot of time
00:32:28in hospital
00:32:28and we had a lot
00:32:29of terrifying moments.
00:32:32Nothing prepares you
00:32:33to go to hospital pregnant
00:32:34and then leave
00:32:35without your baby.
00:32:36Like, mentally,
00:32:38I struggled.
00:32:39It was really hard.
00:32:41He improved.
00:32:42He recovered.
00:32:43We manage him well
00:32:43at home now.
00:32:44I think any parent knows
00:32:45that having a sick kid
00:32:46is the worst feeling
00:32:47in the world
00:32:48and Suze seems
00:32:49to be back there.
00:32:51You were so brave then
00:32:53and I know you're
00:32:54being so brave now.
00:32:55Just know I love you
00:32:56endlessly, darling.
00:32:57And it's so good
00:32:58to hear your voice
00:32:59even though
00:33:00you're obviously struggling
00:33:01but I'm so proud of you.
00:33:09Because Suze is
00:33:10the strongest woman
00:33:11I've ever met,
00:33:11I've probably been
00:33:12a bit oblivious
00:33:12to how bad
00:33:13it actually is
00:33:14in the hold.
00:33:17There's a bit of a knife
00:33:17in the old guts
00:33:18that call,
00:33:19so it makes you
00:33:20pretty motivated
00:33:21to go and get her,
00:33:21really.
00:33:40The rescuers are waking
00:33:41after a night
00:33:42in sub-zero conditions.
00:33:44they've been on the move
00:33:45for over 36 hours
00:33:47and are still
00:33:48more than 15 kilometres
00:33:50from the rendezvous point.
00:33:52If they fail
00:33:53to reach it in time
00:33:54they will be eliminated
00:33:55from the competition.
00:33:57Just getting a couple
00:33:58of hours sleep
00:33:58can make such a difference
00:34:01to your mood.
00:34:03I'm in a much more
00:34:03positive mindset
00:34:04this morning.
00:34:05I don't know
00:34:06how long it'll last for
00:34:07but it's good,
00:34:10it's good.
00:34:11I slept pretty well
00:34:13but I'm still
00:34:14pretty tired
00:34:15and really sore
00:34:17from all the challenges
00:34:18I've been going through
00:34:19and every time
00:34:21I move a different
00:34:21part of my body
00:34:22it hurts
00:34:23but I'm pretty excited
00:34:24to talk to Darren
00:34:24this morning
00:34:25as long as he's
00:34:26sorted his shit out
00:34:27and he knows
00:34:27where I'm going today
00:34:28then it should be good.
00:34:37Another puzzle.
00:34:56Let's get our brain
00:34:57into gear.
00:34:59Snap.
00:35:02Snap.
00:35:04The answer is
00:35:05on something
00:35:05you both have
00:35:06with you.
00:35:07The answer is
00:35:08written on that item.
00:35:10We both have a phone.
00:35:17Darren.
00:35:18Mary, how are you going?
00:35:20I'm good, how are you?
00:35:21I'm not too bad, mate.
00:35:22Did you get any sleep?
00:35:24Yeah.
00:35:24Yeah, okay
00:35:25and you're feeling
00:35:25okay this morning?
00:35:26Yeah.
00:35:27I'm looking at this puzzle
00:35:28that's in front of me.
00:35:30The title is Snap.
00:35:32The clue is
00:35:33what item do you both have
00:35:34and the answer
00:35:35is written on that item.
00:35:36Do you have any ideas?
00:35:39No.
00:35:40We both have a phone.
00:35:42Okay, now
00:35:43on your phone
00:35:44is there a word
00:35:45written on there?
00:35:46Uh, no,
00:35:47I've only got Jeff
00:35:48on the back of my phone.
00:35:49All right, so what item
00:35:51do we both have?
00:35:52I've got insect repellent.
00:35:54No.
00:35:55A sleeping mat.
00:35:56No.
00:35:57What about cooking utensils?
00:35:59Cooking utensils,
00:36:00all I've got
00:36:00is a spoon,
00:36:01a fork,
00:36:01a cup and a bowl.
00:36:03Okay, I'm going through
00:36:04like this kind of kitchen
00:36:06bag that I've got
00:36:06which has usually got
00:36:07lots of stuff in it
00:36:08like knick-knack things.
00:36:09Yeah, good.
00:36:10Do you have a bowl?
00:36:11Uh, yeah,
00:36:12there's a bowl in here.
00:36:13Let me check.
00:36:13What does it say?
00:36:15Sea to summit,
00:36:16delta-like camp set.
00:36:18Delta.
00:36:18I have that word.
00:36:20No, that's not delta.
00:36:22We can't go forwards
00:36:22until we find it.
00:36:23That's all, that's all.
00:36:24Yeah, that's okay.
00:36:25We're working through this.
00:36:26Keep it cool.
00:36:27Do you have a compass?
00:36:28Is that what it might be?
00:36:29No, I don't have a compass.
00:36:31I've got a list of items
00:36:32that I've got.
00:36:33Do you want to let me know
00:36:34if you have any of these?
00:36:35Food containers, bowls, cups,
00:36:37anything like that.
00:36:39Usually puzzles aren't a problem
00:36:40for Lou and I.
00:36:41We are pretty calm
00:36:43and methodical
00:36:44and tend to be able
00:36:46to figure them out quick enough.
00:36:47I've got, um, a thermos.
00:36:49A thermos bottle?
00:36:50Yeah, it is a thermos.
00:36:52It says keep warm.
00:36:53I reckon that might be it.
00:36:54Let me try.
00:36:56I am typing in keep warm.
00:37:02Yep, we've got it, Kai.
00:37:04Awesome.
00:37:04Our next gearbox has been revealed.
00:37:06We have two stops this morning, okay?
00:37:09First stop is fuel.
00:37:10Second stop is an ATV,
00:37:12so you're going to need the fuel
00:37:14to be able to use the ATV.
00:37:16Your fuel is only just over 100 metres south
00:37:19and then from the fuel to the ATV,
00:37:22it is a bit of a distance,
00:37:23about 3.5km.
00:37:25So you're going to have to carry that fuel
00:37:27about 3.5km down to where the ATV is.
00:37:31Any idea how much fuel?
00:37:33No, I haven't been given any detail
00:37:36on how much fuel you will need to carry.
00:37:38Good luck and I'm sending you all my strength.
00:37:41All right, love you.
00:37:43Love you. Bye.
00:37:43Bye.
00:37:45She's in good spirits this morning,
00:37:46which is good.
00:37:48I'm a little concerned about
00:37:49how much fuel she's going to have to carry.
00:37:523.5km is a long way to carry fuel.
00:37:56I've got water bag, tent, sleeping mat.
00:38:00I've just got some water bottles,
00:38:03some dishes and a thermos.
00:38:05Do you have a thermos by any chance?
00:38:07Yeah.
00:38:09It says keep warm.
00:38:12That's it, bro.
00:38:13Oh, good shit.
00:38:14Keep warm.
00:38:16Yay, thank you.
00:38:17You're welcome, man.
00:38:19Keep warm.
00:38:20All right, well done, darling.
00:38:21You've done so well.
00:38:22All right, good on you, mate.
00:38:23That's it, we got it.
00:38:25OK.
00:38:26All right.
00:38:27What happens now?
00:38:29The good news is there's an ATV leg coming up,
00:38:33all right, so right up your alley.
00:38:34Oh, fuck yeah.
00:38:36The bad news,
00:38:37you need to collect the fuel before you get to the ATV
00:38:39and carry the fuel all the way to the ATV.
00:38:42It's roughly 3.5 to 4km.
00:38:45Oh, fuck.
00:38:45If it's only more than 20 litres, we're fucked.
00:38:47You there?
00:38:52Setting off closest to the fuel is Peter, Jeff and Kai.
00:38:57At the back of the pack is Ashley,
00:38:59who still needs to make up time.
00:39:02The rescuers will use the fuel to power ATVs,
00:39:05all-terrain vehicles,
00:39:07which are located a further 3.5km away.
00:39:11Oh, Jesus.
00:39:13You've got to be kidding me.
00:39:14Journalist Peter is the first to arrive at the fuel.
00:39:18Followed by Jeff and stuntwoman Kai.
00:39:23Almost 20 litres worth of liquid in there,
00:39:25and I know that's 20kg that I'm going to have to carry.
00:39:29My backpack will probably take the weight off my arms.
00:39:32I throw the jerry can on my back and just start trudging.
00:39:36I have to go to a place in my head
00:39:38where I'm not in my immediate surrounds to get this done,
00:39:40but I know if I put one foot in front of the other,
00:39:43then eventually I'll get there.
00:39:44No, don't worry about it.
00:39:46Um, okay, do you have a spoon?
00:39:49Rai and Erkana are the only team yet to solve their puzzle.
00:39:52I've gone through and had a look at everything that I have,
00:39:55and the only thing that potentially could, like,
00:39:56match up with what you have is, like,
00:39:59you were saying, like, kitchen stuff,
00:40:00like bowls, spoons, plates, cups, that sort of thing.
00:40:04Just start reading words that you have.
00:40:05We just don't have very long,
00:40:06so I'm just trying to get through as many options as I can.
00:40:08Rai and Erkana are both trying to crack this puzzle,
00:40:10but it just doesn't seem like anything's working.
00:40:13What brand's your food?
00:40:14Uh, it just comes in a tin.
00:40:15There's literally got nothing on it.
00:40:17So anything, like, under your drink bottles,
00:40:19like, just, just, yeah, if you shout words out,
00:40:21I can match them and put them in.
00:40:22OK, so what I'm going to do is what,
00:40:24we're going to do a process of elimination, all right?
00:40:26Yeah, go, go, go. We don't have very long.
00:40:28I'm trying to keep it all together.
00:40:30Erkana seems like she might slowly be losing her grip.
00:40:33I've got a compass.
00:40:35No.
00:40:36OK, no compass. I've got a tent.
00:40:38Is there anything to do with the tent?
00:40:39No.
00:40:40Her tone is starting to change.
00:40:42I think she's getting more and more frustrated
00:40:44that we cannot crack this sucker.
00:40:46You've got to think about what I've got.
00:40:48So anything that's, like, a kitchen is the only things I own.
00:40:50A kitchen and the food.
00:40:51OK, I've got a headlight, like a head torch.
00:40:54I don't have a head torch.
00:40:59Tradie Nick has also found the fuel.
00:41:05Forearms. Fingers.
00:41:08I've done weightlifting in that before,
00:41:10but being off-centre, you can't get a comfortable grip.
00:41:14It's a punish.
00:41:1720-kilo jerry can plus a 15-kilo pack.
00:41:21Like, you do the math.
00:41:22That's a lot of weight to carry 4k.
00:41:25It's no good way to grip it.
00:41:33This is fucked up.
00:41:34The size of the actual jerry can, the amount of petrol in it,
00:41:39and the discomfort and the pain of carrying this thing
00:41:42was so significant that I actually went into full survival mode
00:41:47and removed myself from the reality that I was in.
00:41:50I'm in a meditative state.
00:41:54I am not carrying a jerry can of fuel through the wilderness.
00:41:58Physically, I'm carrying a jerry can,
00:42:01but mentally, I am at home with my family by the fire cooking food.
00:42:08There's really nothing written on any of my food whatsoever,
00:42:11so there's nothing I can help you out in terms of food, all right?
00:42:14And no, like, hot water thermos.
00:42:17Hey, I've just opened up, um, like, a container,
00:42:20and underneath it said the words,
00:42:22keep warm.
00:42:22Is that anything for you?
00:42:25Oh, you got it.
00:42:26OK, awesome work, baby.
00:42:27That's awesome.
00:42:28Save the day.
00:42:29Gearbox has been revealed.
00:42:31Finally cracking that code feels amazing,
00:42:34but we've burnt off some really valuable time,
00:42:37and I need to, like, pull my socks up and move.
00:42:41Mum of four, Ashley, is the second last to arrive at the fuel.
00:42:45I can see the gearbox ahead
00:42:47for the fuel that I'm going to need for the ATVs.
00:42:49A little bit worried about carrying it for three to four kilometres,
00:42:54but we'll just see how I go.
00:42:55Hopefully all the training that Ashley's done in the gym will pay off.
00:42:59Oh.
00:43:01OK.
00:43:03Got my cherry can.
00:43:09This is not ideal.
00:43:11You're going to be a little bit slow.
00:43:13You know, I'm used to carrying my kids,
00:43:15but I think it's a different kind of weight
00:43:17when it's just weight in your hands,
00:43:19plus the pack, which is, like, 15, 20 kilos as well.
00:43:22So.
00:43:25I'm guessing this is just going to be all about endurance.
00:43:30Um.
00:43:31But slow and steady wins the race for me.
00:43:36All right.
00:43:37In last place,
00:43:39Rye has finally reached the fuel.
00:43:42One guess.
00:43:44All right.
00:43:46Oh.
00:43:47So I pick up this giant red jerry can,
00:43:50and it actually doesn't feel too bad.
00:43:53Straight away, I was like,
00:43:54I can carry this.
00:43:55This isn't too heavy.
00:43:56I've buzzed in way too early.
00:43:58It's more like concrete than fuel.
00:44:01Whoa.
00:44:02This thing feels like it's getting heavier
00:44:04every step I take.
00:44:07Genuinely,
00:44:08I think it's full with rocks.
00:44:10The rescuers are lugging heavy fuel cans
00:44:34to all-terrain vehicles,
00:44:36which they will use to travel
00:44:38to the next gearbox.
00:44:42Never in my wildest dreams
00:44:43would I have thought
00:44:45that I would do something like this.
00:44:47This is like the most unforgiving
00:44:52terrain you could possibly think of.
00:44:54It's so, so, so tough on the body.
00:45:00My mentality for this whole leg
00:45:02is what would Marnie do?
00:45:04And really trying to channel her energy
00:45:06because she'd just get on with it.
00:45:07And she wouldn't complain
00:45:08and she'd try to be really positive about it.
00:45:10So I'm trying to be really positive
00:45:11about the whole thing.
00:45:13And every time I complain out loud,
00:45:15I try to reel it in a bit.
00:45:17Further behind Anna
00:45:18in second last place
00:45:20is Ashley.
00:45:21My shoulders are feeling it.
00:45:23My arms are okay.
00:45:25But it's just, oh, so much tension.
00:45:27Tension at the top.
00:45:30I'm trying to go as fast as I can on foot,
00:45:33but my body's tired,
00:45:35my mind is tired,
00:45:36but I am going as fast as I can go.
00:45:39Just gotta...
00:45:40Keep going.
00:45:41I'm feeling this weird combination
00:45:50of exhaustion and elation.
00:45:54My legs have nothing left in them.
00:45:57Like, they're completely touched.
00:45:59They're like jelly.
00:46:03Peter is the first to reach the transport.
00:46:06That was fucking hard.
00:46:13Poor bastard.
00:46:15I don't know how much weight he was carrying.
00:46:17Could have been 10 or 15 kilos worth of fuel.
00:46:20So he's done pretty well, I reckon.
00:46:21Andrew.
00:46:27You're right for some more directions.
00:46:29Your next gearbox.
00:46:30Got a map in it
00:46:31with directions to the rendezvous point.
00:46:34It's just 300 metres west of the lake's edge.
00:46:37Go hard.
00:46:38Okay, mate.
00:46:39Good luck.
00:46:43It's a great feeling
00:46:44to be sitting down for once
00:46:46and having a machine do all of the work.
00:46:49My legs are so exhausted.
00:46:50I need to take the pressure off them for a bit.
00:47:02Oh!
00:47:02Where's the bloody fuel cap?
00:47:11Oh!
00:47:12I bet I'm puffing like a steam train here.
00:47:16Hey, Dreamweaver.
00:47:16How you going?
00:47:17Good.
00:47:17How you going?
00:47:18I'm all good, mate.
00:47:19I'm next to the ATV.
00:47:20Jeff and Kai
00:47:21are next to reach the transport.
00:47:25Woo!
00:47:26Woo!
00:47:28Yeah.
00:47:32Filmmaker Rye is in last place
00:47:35and still yet to reach the ATV.
00:47:38Every step I take,
00:47:40it almost feels like there's another leader
00:47:42getting poured into this jerry can.
00:47:44It just gets heavier
00:47:45and heavier
00:47:46and heavier.
00:47:49It feels like
00:47:50I'm being punished
00:47:53for something I didn't do
00:47:56and
00:47:59it just feels as though
00:48:02I've been asked to carry bricks
00:48:06from here until there
00:48:08but I don't know where there is.
00:48:12It's heavy.
00:48:13It's bad.
00:48:13Hey, Darren.
00:48:20Millie Moo.
00:48:20How you going?
00:48:21Good.
00:48:21I made it to the ATVs.
00:48:23You okay?
00:48:24Yeah, I'm just tired.
00:48:25Like, tell me where I'm going.
00:48:27I don't think Darren understands
00:48:28like what it's really like.
00:48:30It's so annoying
00:48:31when he's on the phone.
00:48:32He's asking all these other questions
00:48:33like, oh, how are you feeling?
00:48:35How was your sleep?
00:48:36And I'm like, get on with it.
00:48:37So when you're on the quad,
00:48:38don't forget how dangerous
00:48:39these things can be, yeah?
00:48:41Yeah, I'm pretty confident.
00:48:42Just don't want to end up on my lid
00:48:44because that's embarrassing.
00:48:46It is embarrassing
00:48:47but I've got confidence.
00:48:49You've got the skills.
00:48:50Just send it.
00:48:52This is going to be fucking sick.
00:48:55It's definitely worth the hard walk.
00:49:01Millie always wants to go fast.
00:49:03She has been in a race car with me
00:49:04since she was maybe 8 or 9
00:49:06and navigating since she was 12.
00:49:09She's been racing as a driver
00:49:11since she was 16.
00:49:12Darren and I have race cars.
00:49:16We've won the off-road championships together
00:49:18and we're the current
00:49:19class 5 off-road racing champions
00:49:21for Australia.
00:49:24Two hands for this one.
00:49:29If I was with Millie right now,
00:49:31my only words would be
00:49:32to finish first,
00:49:33first you must finish.
00:49:34One, two, three.
00:49:39One, two, three.
00:49:46Ashley has finally arrived
00:49:49at the vehicle.
00:49:50One hundred percent.
00:49:52This is the most physically exhausted
00:49:54I've ever felt in my life.
00:49:56My shoulders.
00:50:03Oh, my phone.
00:50:07Hello.
00:50:09How are you?
00:50:10I'm tired.
00:50:11I'm at the ATV.
00:50:13Well, that's fantastic.
00:50:15You can ride this one
00:50:16into the sunset, darling.
00:50:17It's cloudy, darling.
00:50:20There's no sun out.
00:50:22Well, let's imagine there is, okay?
00:50:24Positive vibes, positive vibes.
00:50:25Let's keep it alive.
00:50:27Where am I going?
00:50:28All right.
00:50:29You're going to the gearbox
00:50:30and there'll be a map
00:50:31to the rendezvous.
00:50:32Our time is
00:50:33one hour and 37 minutes.
00:50:37All right.
00:50:38Well, I better get going.
00:50:39Make sure you floor it.
00:50:41Be safe,
00:50:42but still floor it.
00:50:43This is my first time
00:50:44driving an ATV.
00:50:45I'm a little bit scared.
00:50:46I'm hoping it's just
00:50:47like driving a car.
00:50:49First time for everything.
00:50:50My biggest worry at this point
00:50:52is just trying to make up time.
00:50:56I can't even open the bloody door.
00:50:58There we go.
00:51:00Oh, what am I supposed to leave
00:51:08to just sit down?
00:51:11Oh, I should have put my gloves on.
00:51:13I just have to be there
00:51:14to encourage her
00:51:15and flip the switch
00:51:17from that negative mindset.
00:51:19You know, maybe if my energy
00:51:21could be more infectious.
00:51:24Wow.
00:51:26Look at this view.
00:51:27I don't know if I'm going to make it
00:51:39into the rendezvous point in time.
00:51:41I'm well behind.
00:51:43This is all my fault.
00:51:44Looks like he's here now.
00:52:09Journalist Peter
00:52:14is the first to reach the map
00:52:16to the rendezvous point.
00:52:17The RV point's marked on the map,
00:52:21but I think you've probably got
00:52:22about two k's to lay it.
00:52:23I've only got 55 minutes to go,
00:52:25so hook in.
00:52:26Okay.
00:52:26If you don't get the transport,
00:52:27we're done.
00:52:28I am knackered.
00:52:31I'm really, really tired,
00:52:33but for some reason,
00:52:34I'm also feeling
00:52:35a little bit more energy coming.
00:52:37I don't know where it's coming from,
00:52:39but it gives me a boost
00:52:41that I really didn't think I had.
00:52:43Can't be too far now.
00:52:48Okay.
00:52:49Here we go.
00:52:50Jeff and Kai
00:52:55are next to reach the map.
00:53:01Come on, Kai.
00:53:02Keep going.
00:53:03I know you can do this.
00:53:05I'm not ready to be eliminated yet.
00:53:12That'll be a photo finish, I think.
00:53:14Come on, get those skates on, mate.
00:53:16Not really excited to walk
00:53:17the rest of this,
00:53:18but I will.
00:53:20I don't have experience
00:53:30driving an ATV in these conditions.
00:53:33It's this really interesting balance
00:53:34of trying to go as fast as I can,
00:53:36but also driving to the conditions
00:53:38which were wet, windy, and wild.
00:53:41I just hope I'd be fast enough.
00:53:44All right.
00:53:45Rye is in last place.
00:53:50What a sweet-looking thing.
00:53:52And has finally reached the ATV.
00:53:55Oh.
00:53:57His track is not moving.
00:54:00I just hope he knows
00:54:01to hustle that it's going to take him
00:54:03every second that he has.
00:54:05Forgot where I am.
00:54:13Forgot where I was.
00:54:17All right.
00:54:19It's can't be too hard.
00:54:23I'm glad it's an ATV.
00:54:25There's not a lot of time left.
00:54:26I really hope there's no speed cameras around here.
00:54:35I'd be toast.
00:54:37Ashley is second last to complete the drive
00:54:40and arrive at the map.
00:54:42I'm exhausted.
00:54:43I don't have a lot of time left.
00:54:45I think it'll be tight.
00:54:50She's not moving.
00:54:52Move!
00:54:54Go!
00:54:55What are you doing?
00:54:56Ah!
00:54:57Enough, I am.
00:54:59Back to a walk-in.
00:55:00Peter is the first to arrive
00:55:16at the rendezvous point.
00:55:17Woo!
00:55:19Woo!
00:55:27Oh!
00:55:30Hey!
00:55:34Hello!
00:55:35Killed it, mate!
00:55:36Yeah!
00:55:37Well done!
00:55:39How's the time?
00:55:4029 minutes.
00:55:42Woo!
00:55:43Killed it!
00:55:44Thanks, of course.
00:55:45This thing is just making me stronger
00:55:47and more determined, you know?
00:55:49Pat yourself on the back.
00:55:51And the body's holding up all right, eh?
00:55:53Body's holding up.
00:55:54And you?
00:55:54Yeah, yeah, I'm good.
00:55:55I'm celebrating the win, mate.
00:55:58I'm celebrating the end.
00:56:00Oh, God.
00:56:09Oh.
00:56:10That.
00:56:12Oh, he's done it.
00:56:15Well, it's a tough couple of days.
00:56:17I'm glad that leg's over.
00:56:35Hi.
00:56:35Are you at the rendezvous point?
00:56:37I am, I am, I am.
00:56:39Woo!
00:56:39Yes, we made it.
00:56:48Yes.
00:56:49Well done, mate.
00:56:50Well done.
00:56:51That was so tough.
00:57:05One of the toughest 48 hours of my life, I reckon.
00:57:09But I made it.
00:57:10I'm tired.
00:57:19I don't have much left in me.
00:57:24I'm trying to go as fast as I can.
00:57:26But my body's tired.
00:57:27My mind is tired.
00:57:28If I don't make this, I'm just going to feel so disappointed because I have worked my butt off.
00:57:36I'm really anxious, obviously, with the time crunch.
00:57:40The time was running out.
00:57:42You see, it's time to put the hair up, take the earrings off, and let's run.
00:57:47Rye has made it to the map, but is still in last place.
00:57:51I don't know if I'm going to make it in time.
00:57:54It feels like everything has just gone into slow motion.
00:57:56And I can't move any faster if I tried.
00:58:00I was just literally running on empty.
00:58:13The pickup transport is arriving to take the rescuers to the next leg.
00:58:19If they fail to reach the rendezvous point in time, they will be eliminated from the competition.
00:58:26Anna, it's third last to reach the rendezvous point.
00:58:39I am absolutely spent.
00:58:45I'm so relieved to be here.
00:58:49Oh, my God.
00:58:52Anna?
00:58:53Hey, did I make it?
00:58:55Yeah, dude.
00:58:57You've got eight minutes to go.
00:58:58I'm so proud of you.
00:59:01That was so fast.
00:59:03Yeah, I can imagine.
00:59:05You've been going for 48 hours.
00:59:07You're an absolute weapon.
00:59:08Man, I wouldn't be here.
00:59:09I wouldn't have made it to the rendezvous point without you.
00:59:11So, I love you so much.
00:59:13I'm so grateful for you.
00:59:15Love you, too.
00:59:15I'm so proud of you, honestly.
00:59:17It's so good getting there, hearing her voice.
00:59:22She's proud of me.
00:59:23I'm proud of me.
00:59:24And us just knowing we've made that bit further to seeing each other again.
00:59:29You're one step closer to finding me, which is great.
00:59:32I'm keen to just give you a big hug.
00:59:33I love you, man.
00:59:43In second last place, Ashley has also made the rendezvous point.
00:59:48Oh, yes.
01:00:01Fire out.
01:00:03Honey.
01:00:05Hello.
01:00:06Hey, honey.
01:00:07I just got here.
01:00:09You're amazing.
01:00:11You did it.
01:00:14You're amazing.
01:00:16I'm proud of you.
01:00:17Thank you, baby.
01:00:17I miss you.
01:00:19I miss you, too.
01:00:21I have told you you can die.
01:00:25Oh, it cut out.
01:00:27I'm just in disbelief.
01:00:29I've achieved more than I thought that I could have done.
01:00:33And I'm really proud of myself.
01:00:36Oh, I made it.
01:00:37Thank goodness.
01:00:38Watching the tracker, I'm concerned.
01:00:48He has a very heavy backpack.
01:00:50He has wet, sodden boots.
01:00:52He's been going for 48 hours straight.
01:00:54And I can do nothing but just hope that he goes, goes, goes.
01:00:57Oh, I hate it when the tracker doesn't move.
01:00:59Move.
01:01:04Oh.
01:01:07Does it make it?
01:01:09Does it make it on time?
01:01:14I mean, mixed emotions.
01:01:15I don't know if I'm here on time.
01:01:16I feel good.
01:01:20I feel like I've done it.
01:01:21But I just don't know.
01:01:23You made it.
01:01:3524 seconds to go.
01:01:37Yeah, we did.
01:01:40Oh, wow.
01:01:42My heart is racing.
01:01:44Oh, that's awesome.
01:01:46Hands in the air.
01:01:47Celebrate this one.
01:01:49Well done, Rye.
01:01:51I'm so proud of you.
01:01:53It was just, like, pure joy.
01:01:56Just knowing for a while that we'd made it.
01:01:57But nothing has changed.
01:01:59Still need to make sure I can rescue Akana.
01:02:01All eight rescuers have made it through
01:02:04and are on their way to the next leg of the mission,
01:02:07taking them one step closer to freeing their teammate
01:02:10and winning the competition.
01:02:13It was so close.
01:02:15I'm not going to let that happen again.
01:02:18I'm extremely out of my comfort zone,
01:02:20but I am more physically capable than I give myself credit for.
01:02:25This is definitely getting harder.
01:02:29We're a long way in,
01:02:31but there is also still a long way to go.
01:02:33Next time...
01:02:46It's even colder.
01:02:49I've never done anything like this before.
01:02:52Definitely worried about hypothermia.
01:02:54Even wetter.
01:02:55It is tough.
01:02:56I'm fatigued.
01:02:57I think I'm going to fall off.
01:02:58And even more demanding than ever before.
01:03:03That's a long way down.
01:03:05And their relationships will be tested like never before.
01:03:09I'm going to carry on on foot.
01:03:11Get on the horse.
01:03:12Why the hell would you walk
01:03:13when you've got a bloody horse next to you?
01:03:16No.
01:03:18Eight teams remain.
01:03:19Thinking I've told her the wrong way.
01:03:21Can they free their captives?
01:03:23Just go.
01:03:23I need them to go, go, go.
01:03:24To win a share in $100,000.
01:03:28Hurry up.
01:03:28Just go.
01:03:29And pull off the ultimate escape.
01:03:33Oh!
01:03:35Oh!
01:03:36Oh!
01:03:36Oh!
01:03:37Oh!
01:03:37Oh!
01:03:38Oh!
01:03:38Oh!
01:03:38Oh!
01:03:39Oh!
01:03:39Oh!
01:03:40Oh!
01:03:41Oh!
01:03:41Oh!
01:03:42Oh!
01:03:43Oh!
01:03:44Oh!
01:03:45Oh!
01:03:46Oh!
01:03:48Oh!
01:03:49Oh!
01:03:50Oh!
01:03:51Oh!
01:03:52Oh!
01:03:53Oh!
01:03:54Oh! Oh!
