Ruben Amorim will be given more time to turn things around at Manchester United following their 3-1 defeat to Brentford over the weekend. United were outplayed on Saturday afternoon as they once again fluffed an opportunity to record consecutive Premier League wins under their head coach.

Igor Thiago bagged an early brace to pile more misery on Amorim before Benjamin Sesko gave United hope with his first goal for the club. Bruno Fernandes saw a second-half penalty saved by Caoimhin Kelleher, and substitute Mathias Jensen sealed the win with a ferocious strike in added time.

It means Amorim has collected just 34 points from his 33 Premier League games in charge of the club, and he has yet to manage back-to-back victories in the competition. United are back in action when they host Sunderland at Old Trafford next weekend before a daunting trip to face Liverpool at Anfield after the next international break.

00:01Manchester United have no plans to replace head coach Ruben Amarim despite their 3-1 defeat to Brentford at the weekend.
00:09United blew their chance of winning back-to-back Premier League games for the first time under the Portuguese head coach
00:15as they were defeated 3-1 by Brentford in the early kick-off on Saturday.
00:20It means United have taken just 34 points from 33 Premier League matches under Ruben Amarim
00:26and there is more pressure on the head coach due to the fact that United don't seem to have improved at all
00:32from their dreadful worst ever Premier League campaign in his debut season.
00:38Ruben Amarim still just about retains the backing though of the United board.
00:42It is less than a year since he replaced Eric Ten Haag. That was November 2024
00:47and I think that is a key factor here in why he is still in the United job.
00:53He is under increased pressure. There are now serious questions over his position
00:58but he is the guy that Ineos hired. Eric Ten Haag was not their man.
01:02It was an easier decision to replace him in November last year.
01:06Sorry, they got rid of him in October and replaced him with Amarim in November
01:10and that was easier to do because he was from the previous regime.
01:14Ruben Amarim is their guy. He is the man that needs to make it work.
01:17The person that they backed with over £200 million in the summer transfer window as well.
01:23So there is a real pressure from United to try and make Amarim work
01:27but it is under no illusion either now that he is under serious pressure to turn things around.
01:32United host Sunderland in the Premier League this weekend before the international break.
01:36If they don't win that, well then maybe it will be the point of no return for Ruben Amarim.
01:42A trip to Anfield awaits after the international break.
01:44Also got games at home to Brighton and away against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur in the near future.
01:52So United sources insist and the club sources insist that they are not talking to anyone else,
01:58lining anyone up to be a potential alternative.
02:01But we understand that there are considerations about who might potentially replace Amarim.
02:06Of course, United would only make a managerial change if they felt they had someone who could become available
02:12who would do a better job and that isn't guaranteed right now.
02:17I think that's maybe the area of concern for lots of United fans,
02:20that they've had so many different types of managers since Sir Alex Ferguson retired
02:24and they've just not found one that works yet.
02:27If they get rid of Ruben Amarim, who is next?
02:29It's very difficult to say.
02:31Right now, United hope it doesn't come to that.
02:32Sunderland at home in the Premier League this weekend and Ruben Amarim will take charge of the match.
02:38Will it be his last?
02:39We'll wait and see.
