00:00Manchester United have recorded back-to-back Premier League victories under Ruben Amarim for the very first time.
00:07United were improved in their victory over Sunderland ahead of the October international break,
00:12but we all knew things would be a lot trickier when they travelled to Anfield over the weekend.
00:18But United produced one of the performances of recent years, the best performance probably under Ruben Amarim,
00:24as they won 2-1 against the reigning Premier League champions.
00:28And it was a fantastic performance, with so many stand-out performances in individual terms as well.
00:34Of course, Ruben Amarim made two changes to a starting line-up for the game.
00:38Harry Maguire came in for Eleni Yoro, and Mateusz Cunha was selected ahead of Benjamin Szczesko,
00:43despite the fact the Slovenian striker had scored twice in his last two matches for the club.
00:49But Amarim was vindicated. United were brilliant from the start, took the lead within two minutes,
00:55when Mbwemo linked up with Ahmad on the right wing, and he fired past Giorgio Mardashvili in the Liverpool goal.
01:02The home side, they had an abundance of chances. Cody Gakpo could have scored four or five.
01:06In the end, he only got one. He scored what turned out to be a false dawn for Liverpool in the second half in close range,
01:12after Arne Schlott went all-out attack to try and end their winless run.
01:17And it looked like it was going to be a draw, but then Bruno Fernandes, the talisman for United,
01:22played an expert cross into the box. His first assist of the season, and Harry Maguire,
01:27the much maligned Man United man, was there to do what he does best, to justify that selection.
01:32And after the game, Ruben Amarim said that, look, the game isn't that important as a win.
01:37It was important in the context of beating Liverpool on Sunday, but as of today, as of this week,
01:41it's just another game. It's three points, and his new concern is on beating Brighton this weekend.
01:48United, oddly, have been very good, or maybe not very good, but better, against the bigger sides.
01:54And Amarim, there was, of course, that victory against City last December.
01:58They've had draws of Arsenal, obviously knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup as well.
02:02And, you know, United have been able to up their game against bigger opposition just because the kind of occasion
02:08takes care of itself. You know, it's not so hard to get motivated about a trip to play Liverpool at Anfield
02:14because, as a Man United player, the best place to win a game isn't Old Trafford.
02:18It is Anfield, and the United have done that for the first time since 2016.
02:22But there's been a few false dawns under Amarim so far.
02:26This is different now. There's back-to-back wins, which, OK, that is not going to be sort of cutting-your-hair territory
02:32to acknowledge our very famous supporter.
02:35But what it does mean is that United have that springboard.
02:39It's six points from the last two matches.
02:41Brighton at home this weekend now looks a bit more favourable.
02:44Of course, they beat Newcastle over the weekend themselves.
02:46It was Danny Welbeck with a brace.
02:48He'll be back at Old Trafford again, looking to inflict more misery.
02:51Welbeck are player United have considered signing across the last two summers, but have opted against it.
02:57And there's positivity around United now, because that run of games, Liverpool, Brighton, Nottingham Forest,
03:03who will be newly managed, perhaps, by Sean Dyche in that game,
03:06and a trip to face Tottenham, who, of course, did the quadruple over United last season.
03:11That looked very unfavourable at one point, and looked like the November international break
03:15could be a worrying time for Ruben Amarim.
03:18But right now, there's positivity. There's a new belief around United.
03:21They have beaten Liverpool. They've beaten Sunderland.
03:24They've got back-to-back wins under Ruben Amarim.
03:26They've had consecutive wins in the Premier League for the first time under the Portuguese head coach.
03:31The first away win in, I think, nine months.
03:34I think it was back in Leicester all the way.
03:36It was at March before that international break.
03:38So, there's lots of positivity around United at the moment.
03:42So many stand-up performances.
03:43And Buemo, Fernandes and Maguire, the obvious three to pick out.
03:47I thought Cunha was excellent.
03:49His best performance for United so far.
03:51Casemiro vindicated his selection in central midfield.
03:54Luke Shaw was really good as well.
03:57I know Lissandro Martinez will be back soon.
03:58But Luke Shaw, I thought, was really good in that left-centre-back role.
04:02And Chanel Armand's in goal.
04:04He is the new United number one.
04:06Two really impressive, confident, commanding performances in the United goal.
04:11He gave them confidence at the back.
04:13And he was sort of the foundations for what turned out to be a very impressive away win.
04:17But like Ruben Amrum said, it will count for very little if United don't go on to get points in the next few games.
04:23The Liverpool win was a momentous day.
04:25But it can't be seen as a turning point unless they go and get more points on the board now.
04:30United have beaten Liverpool, Brighton at home in the Premier League this weekend.
