00:01Previously on Project Runway,
00:03this next challenge will decide which three of you
00:06will make it to Olympus Fashion Week.
00:08We want you to create an outfit of your choice.
00:12I'm just confused.
00:14I definitely was having a major brain freeze.
00:17Don't bore Nina.
00:19Uh-oh.
00:20I'm just gonna start all over.
00:25Congratulations, Uli.
00:28You are going to Olympus Fashion Week.
00:32Laura, you're in.
00:33That means you are going to Fashion Week.
00:38You're both in.
00:43All four of us are going.
00:49This is Project Runway.
00:51Fashion is my life.
00:52I'm going to win.
00:53Fifteen contestants.
00:55I'm fabulously glamorous.
00:57You have mad skills.
00:58But only one can be the winner.
01:00I'm better than that.
01:01You've got to be kidding me.
01:04For these fifteen contestants,
01:05Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:07We have a final four this year.
01:21Congratulations, Uli, Michael, Jeffrey, and Laura.
01:26Are you all excited?
01:27Yes.
01:28Yes.
01:29Good, because for your final challenge,
01:31you will be designing twelve looks for Olympus Fashion Week.
01:36We're giving you a budget of $8,000 in two months to put it together.
01:41You also will be using your models from the last challenge.
01:44The winner will receive a spread in Elle Magazine,
01:47a mentorship with Inc. International Concepts Design,
01:51a year of representation from Designers Management Agency,
01:55a brand new 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster,
01:59and $100,000 to start their own line,
02:02furnished by Tresemme Professional Hair Care.
02:05Got it?
02:06Got it.
02:07Okay, you have your challenge.
02:09And now I have a special guest.
02:21Tim Gunn!
02:22How are you?
02:23Tim on the runway.
02:25So, designers,
02:27you're going to be showing before the largest and most influential crowd in the fashion industry.
02:33So do what we know you can do.
02:36Do not play it safe.
02:38Amaze us.
02:39Okay, head back to Atlas to pack.
02:41And I see you back in New York in two months.
02:44Okay, have fun.
02:45Thank you so much.
02:46Bye.
02:47Bye, everybody.
02:48What are we going to do now?
02:49We're heading off into the sunset.
02:50For two months.
02:51We can go on a holiday, you and I.
02:53That would be lovely.
02:59I'm not just efficient at sewing, I'm efficient at packing.
03:02The opportunity to move another level forward with Bryant Park.
03:07It's going to be such a career opportunity.
03:10I don't think it's necessarily daunting, the idea of having to produce a whole line.
03:15I mean, I've produced a whole line of kids.
03:17Why can't I produce a whole line of dresses?
03:19Atlas, you've been good to us.
03:21Yeah.
03:22Ah.
03:23This is it.
03:24This is it.
03:25You know what?
03:26I'm walking home.
03:27She's really walking home.
03:29Winning off the last challenge definitely makes me more confident to go to Bryant Park.
03:38People think I'm just going with the flow and I'm enjoying the ride, but maybe I'm the one who's going to end up on top.
03:46The journey, the roller coaster up and down, it was all worth it.
03:50I'm here.
03:51I'm going to Bryant Park.
03:52My is going to be the bomb.
03:53Do know that.
03:54It will be hot.
03:55And it will be Michael Knight.
03:56I'm out for blood.
03:57I've got to win.
03:58Au revoir.
03:59Peace.
04:01I've made it to Bryant Park and that's what I came for.
04:04All this effort was more than worth it.
04:07The opportunity to make a collection that I want to see walk down the runway is my dream.
04:14And that feels really good.
04:16Bye, Atlas.
04:18Yeah.
04:21I'm traveling to check on the collections of our four finalists.
04:38First is Michael Knight, who's working on his collection in Atlanta.
04:44How are you?
04:45I'm great.
04:46How are you?
04:47I'm great.
04:48How are you?
04:49I'm great.
04:50Good to see you.
04:51Good to see you, too.
04:52Come on in.
04:53Wonderful.
04:55So do you.
04:57Tim Gunn finally arrives.
04:58It was like seeing an old friend.
04:59By the way, I'm a brace face now.
05:00You see, I'm braces now.
05:01So let me just...
05:02America, I have braces.
05:03So, you know, you can just call me Brace Face.
05:07Yeah, this is an adorable house.
05:09Thank you so much.
05:10I love it.
05:11How long have you been in here?
05:12About two years now.
05:13Okay, well, this is my office slash work room here.
05:16This is where I do my work.
05:17Nice.
05:18My little sewing nook.
05:19Great.
05:20And this is where I live.
05:21This is where I work.
05:22So where's your collection?
05:23I can't wait to see it.
05:25Here.
05:26I have a couple of pieces here, and I actually set up everything.
05:29Can we take everything out of the living room?
05:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:31Let's go.
05:32I think we'll have more room.
05:33So here we are.
05:34My collection.
05:35Great.
05:36So how far along are you?
05:38I'm definitely, I'm still in the early beginning stages.
05:41I've just started maybe a week and a half ago.
05:44My collection, I call it a street safari basically.
05:48Okay.
05:49I don't know.
05:50I just really started with this look here, and it's pretty much like a dress in a safari
05:56style jacket.
05:57From there, everything else came with it.
05:59I wanted to kind of keep the palette somewhat neutral but kind of with splashes of color.
06:04Spring.
06:05Yes, exactly.
06:06And then as I started to design it, it almost, some of the pieces have a slight 70s feel
06:11to it.
06:12This is that first piece here.
06:13Yeah.
06:14It's done.
06:15I like these details.
06:17It's nice.
06:18I think it's a great place to begin.
06:20So what else do you have?
06:21I have a couple more pieces I can show you.
06:23Yeah, I want to see them.
06:24I'm going to tell you I'm having a conflict here.
06:30I want you to make sure that this collection is cohesive because I'm not seeing it right
06:36now.
06:37What's happening with this rear end?
06:38I don't know.
06:39That's what I'm saying.
06:40I'm not good with zippers.
06:41I think you need to shorten it.
06:42Okay.
06:43Tim suggested that I make my collection a little bit more cohesive.
06:49I have just a little less than a month left and I've only have three looks completed.
06:56I don't want to fret over it.
06:58So, you know, I'm going to continue just to do what I do and make it work somehow.
07:03So just do it.
07:04Get to work.
07:05I love it.
07:06Okay.
07:07So, it's all my stuff.
07:08I love your feedback.
07:09And my parents are actually going to meet us at my cousin's house.
07:12We're going to have dinner.
07:13Great.
07:14I'm going to cook dinner for you.
07:16I'm a great chef.
07:17I can cook really, really good.
07:21Hey, Tim.
07:22This is my father, Michael.
07:23Hi, Michael.
07:24Nice to meet you.
07:26How are you?
07:27How are you?
07:28I'm so good.
07:29Good to see you.
07:30You too?
07:32You look great.
07:33Why, thank you.
07:34It's important for Tim to meet my family just because I just want to show him, you know,
07:38what I came from.
07:40Basically, I am an army brat, so I lived and grew up, like, everywhere.
07:45I lived in Oklahoma, Texas, New York, and a host of other states.
07:50One day, I think I was maybe like nine or ten, I just pulled out some lined paper and
07:55my big fat jumbo Crayola markers and just started to sketch.
08:00It really was God-given.
08:02My family, my mother, my father have had my back since day one.
08:05My wife and I say, he's going to be a beautician.
08:08We see it.
08:09That's pretty much the way he's going to go.
08:10But he did a turn on us.
08:12He's so lucky to have your support.
08:14Never once did I say, Michael, you don't want to do this.
08:18Someone...
08:19I love you.
08:21They've always called me the star of the family.
08:24They're my motivation.
08:25I really want to learn to make them proud.
08:27Father, we thank you right now.
08:29We're just so honored to be a part of this great feat for Michael.
08:33We ask right now, God, that you will continue to watch over him.
08:36Amen.
08:37Amen.
08:38I'm really ready to go to Fashion Week and win this show.
08:42Oh, I hope I don't eat those words.
08:43No, I'm going to win.
08:44I'm going to win.
08:45I'm going to win.
08:46Got to think positive.
08:47Um...
08:48This is so good.
08:58Next up is Laura Bennett, who's been working on her collection in New York City.
09:05Laura?
09:06Yes.
09:07Hi, it's Tim Gunn.
09:08Oh, this is so exciting. Come up.
09:14Hello.
09:15I'm so thrilled to see you.
09:17It was great to see Tim again.
09:19Um, sort of a friendly, familiar face.
09:22But you look fantastic.
09:23I've been very busy.
09:24I know you have.
09:25So I haven't had much time to whine about being proud.
09:28This baby is a boy.
09:30It is my fifth boy in a row.
09:33What are the chances of that?
09:35Probably about the same as making it on Project Runway.
09:38It certainly hasn't slowed me down at all.
09:40Wow, what space?
09:42It's a great space for New York.
09:44And it's a great space for the kids,
09:46because they have a lot of room to run and play.
09:49And I have some pictures, some funny pictures I wanted to show you.
09:52Here's my grandmother.
09:53She was a painter.
09:54And I spent a lot of time with her as a child,
09:56sewing and painting and making little sculptures.
09:59It's in the blood.
10:00I lived in New Orleans most of my life.
10:03My mother worked as a sewing teacher.
10:06Oh.
10:07And I learned to sew from her.
10:08And that's definitely been influential in the sewing work that I do now.
10:13Well, can I show you my collection?
10:14I'd love to see, yeah.
10:15I'd love to see.
10:16Let's see.
10:17I've been working very hard.
10:18I have it divided into four groups.
10:20Laura, what can all of you have done?
10:22I know.
10:23Nothing is finished, but what I wanted to do is get something going on each environment
10:28so that we had something to discuss.
10:30This one is a simple jersey gown, but the embellishment happens on the inside.
10:36Beautiful.
10:37So from the outside, it looks kind of quiet and demure, and then when she moves, you get
10:42that sort of sparkle.
10:43I really thought that I needed to do a collection that was about me and some of my signature moves
10:50and take it all to a new level.
10:52I thought that evening wear would put on a better show.
10:55Where do we go next?
10:57The last group.
10:58I love these, and I see perfectly how they fit in and how the transition can work.
11:04But you know, I got to tell you something.
11:07You're going to have to really youth this up in the styling as it could go old.
11:13Yeah.
11:14This one, the green is...
11:17It's all out there.
11:19It's a lot of look.
11:20I guess this is where I was trying to take a risk for that kind of final piece and go out
11:25of my kind of comfort zone.
11:27But I just think in order to win this competition, I can't be safe.
11:33I really want to win this competition.
11:35I surprised myself how competitive I've become.
11:38I don't want my friends to say, that was beautiful.
11:40You should have won.
11:41I just really want to win.
11:43Here's my question.
11:44I'm going to be perfectly want.
11:45Is this even pretty?
11:46I'm not certain it is for me.
11:49Hmm.
11:50On the one hand, you have achieved a miraculous amount of work.
11:56At the same time, you've got a lot to think about.
11:59Yeah.
12:00A lot of the work that I have left to do is hand work and very tedious.
12:03How adept are the boys?
12:04Speaking of the boys.
12:05Wow.
12:06What signing?
12:07Did you say hello to Tim?
12:08Hey.
12:09How are you?
12:10What's that?
12:11What is it?
12:12Turtle poop.
12:13Ew.
12:14Sorry.
12:15I don't think I want any turtle poop.
12:16I'm drawing the line with the turtle poop.
12:17My littlest one offered him turtle poop.
12:18Maybe that was sort of an olive branch to sort of offer Tim the turtle.
12:31Here, welcome to our clan.
12:32Have some poop.
12:33The turtle's in it.
12:34Where's the turtle poop?
12:35Yeah, where's the turtle?
12:36All right, let's find Frank everybody.
12:38All right, we're missing a turtle.
12:40Hopefully he didn't go out the stairs.
12:43I don't know where he is.
12:46All right, well, he'll show up.
12:49Hi, how are you?
12:50Hi, Peter.
12:51Nice to see you.
12:52Good to see you.
12:53How are you?
12:54Great.
12:55Good.
12:56I've been here with you and the kids for how long have we all been together?
13:0330 minutes?
13:04I'm already exhausted.
13:05How do you do all this?
13:06If we don't have this, we go away.
13:08It's too quiet.
13:09Yay.
13:10There's Frank.
13:11It's a good looking tour, isn't it?
13:15Raising five children, I've never really been able to get any of my personal design work off the ground because I've never had the money to start a business and take it to the next level.
13:25So hopefully the winning Project Runway will do that for me.
13:30Congratulations on the collection.
13:33And you're going to bring it all together.
13:36Yeah, we'll make those tough decisions.
13:38Yes.
13:39I've been fortunate that my family has really sort of gathered around me and really driven me to want to succeed and take this whole thing.
13:45I want to take those other designers down.
13:47Coming up on Project Runway.
13:48I'm completely in awe of what you're doing with these zippers.
13:49Awesome.
13:50How was your life, Jeffrey?
13:51Are people pouring eggs in you?
13:52I didn't jump up off the sofa when Jeffrey came in.
14:06Next, I'm traveling to see Uli Hirsner, who's been working on her collection in Miami.
14:19Hi Tim.
14:20How are you, sweetheart?
14:21How are you?
14:22I'm so thrilled to see you.
14:23Nice seeing you again sitting out here, but that's the dream of America.
14:27Wow.
14:28Thanks, huh?
14:29That's incredible.
14:30This is just fantastic.
14:33Yeah.
14:34That's why I do all these tropical dresses.
14:39I understand it.
14:40A lot of my inspiration comes from Miami and the living down here and the weather and the water and the colors here and the people's lifestyle.
14:49So I'd love to see the collection.
14:51My collection, the theme is going to be like safari, tropical safari things.
14:56I want to do dresses.
14:58This I started with.
14:59It's beautiful, but that isn't enough to win.
15:03I'm worried about the judges saying, you're in one note.
15:06What about this collection is going to surprise them?
15:10This one?
15:11Yeah.
15:12This is beautiful.
15:13And I love it with that.
15:14And it goes back into kind of the safari thing.
15:17Yeah.
15:18Oh, definitely.
15:19With the bone.
15:20I'm glad you like that.
15:21I love it.
15:22So I have my 12 pieces.
15:23I know what I want to do.
15:24So I just have to do it now.
15:26But that took a long time to figure out what I wanted to do, actually.
15:31But now that you have and you're there, you know you can just move forward and not really think anymore.
15:37Just make.
15:38So maybe it would be good for us to clear out of your studio space and go somewhere and have a just talk.
15:44Yeah.
15:45And let's go to the beach because I get a lot of inspiration from the beach and the pantries.
15:49This is amazing.
15:50This is beautiful and vast.
15:51I just like it.
15:52It's gone there.
15:53Yeah.
15:54This is just so different from Germany.
15:55Oh yeah.
15:56The big, big, big difference.
15:57Were you dreaming about living in a climate like this?
15:58Actually, when I was little, I could see a Miami Weiss when I was a little girl.
16:12And I would always see Miami Weiss and I was dreaming of the pantries and the beaches and the water.
16:17And then I ended up here.
16:18You have it now.
16:19I have it.
16:20Growing up in East Germany, we didn't have much.
16:24If you don't have things, you make things.
16:26That's what I learned there.
16:27And I started making clothes very early, I think, when I was eight.
16:31I also grew up with not much color.
16:33That's why I want to show more life and color and movement in my clothes.
16:39I knew you grew up in Germany, but I didn't realize that you grew up in East Germany.
16:43It was really dangerous.
16:44You could get shot or like would go to jail.
16:46It doesn't matter how old you were.
16:48Terrible penalties.
16:49I was always thinking of a way how to get out.
16:52And then all of a sudden, it opened overnight.
16:55I mean, I really lived that dream, what you say, if you come to America and you, maybe
17:00you're nobody and maybe you can make it in quite a short time.
17:03And I think I'm, I'm almost there.
17:06I might be there, which is kind of a dream thing, which wouldn't happen in another country.
17:11I don't think it would have happened in Germany.
17:13It's a weird feeling coming from a small town in Eastern Germany.
17:18And now I'm being the big star in New York Fashion Week.
17:21But surprises happen.
17:22And I think that's why everybody comes to this country, because things can happen.
17:27And now I can see it's really true.
17:30Dreams can come through here.
17:33And finally, I'm visiting Jeffrey Sebelia, who's working on his collection in Los Angeles.
17:50Hey, how are you?
17:51How are you?
17:52Good.
17:53Good, good, good.
17:54Great to see you.
17:56I was excited that Tim was coming, but also really nervous because throughout the show,
18:00I didn't feel like I convinced Tim of what my point of view was.
18:04Hi, Tim.
18:05Got to give you a kiss.
18:07How are you, Melanie?
18:08I'm so good.
18:09And this has got to be Harrison.
18:10Hi, Harrison.
18:11I met Melanie through some mutual friends a couple of years ago, and we fell in love
18:16immediately.
18:17And five months after we got together, Melanie got pregnant.
18:20Congratulations on this little guy.
18:23I always say it's Jeff's best design.
18:26We just feel lucky.
18:28Having a baby, having Harrison has opened my heart up more than I could ever have imagined.
18:32I love him more than I love anything, anything or anyone.
18:37Aren't you pleased you're not living and designing in the same place?
18:41I was.
18:42I started making clothes in my living room here.
18:45I was having to make things around the clock.
18:47I literally worked from six in the morning until like two the next morning.
18:50It just took off immediately.
18:52Whatever success I have now as a designer, any success is due solely to the fact that I'm
18:58sober.
18:59I was born in L.A.
19:01My dad left us when I was eight.
19:03And, uh, but when he was around, he was a really scary guy with a lot of rage.
19:08You know, I sort of blamed myself for his leaving.
19:11I was just a very damaged child.
19:14Got into drugs really young.
19:16It's really hard on my family.
19:18About five years ago, I had been on this run for four years.
19:21It was just, you know, gruesome, just, you know, shooting drugs.
19:24Just whatever you can imagine.
19:26And I went to kill myself.
19:29I was going to hang myself.
19:30And this roommate that I had, who was supposed to be at work, I let go from her job, came
19:35home, found me, and saved me.
19:38The next day, I called somebody for help.
19:41And, uh, I've been clean ever since.
19:44It's been almost five years now.
19:46It's amazing to have Harrison now and to think about, you know, how hard it is for me when
19:53he just falls down and starts crying.
19:55You know, uh, I can't imagine what it's like to have one of your children turn out to be
19:59a drug addict living on the streets.
20:02Heartbreaking.
20:03So?
20:04So how have things been for you since the show started to air?
20:07Oh, uh, crazy.
20:09I was doing work, developing my next season and trying to spend time with my family.
20:14Yeah.
20:15And now working on the final collection for the show.
20:17There have been several days where I just thought, God, this is a lot.
20:20More and more I want to win.
20:22You know, I really want to win.
20:24My motivation is to have a future for Harrison and to make a life that he can have and that
20:30he's proud of his father.
20:31I'm happy with the way the collection's turning out.
20:34Very happy.
20:35So let's go see it.
20:36I'd love to see it.
20:37Yeah, yeah.
20:38I'd love to see it.
20:39Cool.
20:40Bye, guys.
20:41Say bye.
20:42Take care.
20:43See you guys in a bit.
20:44Bye!
20:45So I went down to my space in downtown L.A.
20:47Uh, where my office is and also my small sewing facility.
20:51So here we are.
20:52It's a great building.
20:53Yeah, it's nice.
20:56Wow.
20:57Here we are.
20:58Look at the size of this space.
21:01So this is what I'm working on.
21:03I'd love to see.
21:04Maybe we'll put this on the form.
21:06Okay.
21:07Because it's, it's a sideshow freak, this thing.
21:10Is it?
21:11Yeah, I love it.
21:12I love it, I love it, I love it.
21:13My initial inspiration for the collection was the Japanese ghost and demon stories.
21:18Even though some of the stories are kind of childlike, they're very sophisticated and very
21:22scary at the same time.
21:23They use a lot of the color inspiration, a lot of the watercolor paintings of these kimonos,
21:27the way they're draped.
21:29I wanted to really try to personify that in this little collection if possible.
21:33I'm completely in awe of what you're doing with these zippers.
21:38Awesome.
21:39And I don't know.
21:40I mean, I'm so in it.
21:41I was sick of the whole thing three days ago.
21:44Now that's natural.
21:45You should be.
21:46Because you're living with it.
21:47And it's like, oh God.
21:48And it just goes on for so long.
21:49Yeah, it doesn't.
21:50So then this is to fit in again with this sort of more casual story.
21:56Just a really pretty halter.
22:00Unexpected.
22:01Oh, cool.
22:02Cool.
22:03Thanks.
22:04This is beautiful.
22:05I got to give you a hug.
22:07I'm just so with this.
22:12Yeah.
22:13Hope the judges like it.
22:14Tim really likes it, which feels good.
22:15But I don't think it's at all any kind of foreshadowing about how the judges are going
22:18to perceive what I do.
22:19I'm living on borrowed time.
22:21And it's all a gift at this point.
22:24It's all just a huge gift.
22:26I'm eternally grateful for everything that I have.
22:43Man, I am back in New York City.
22:45I'm excited.
22:46This moment is actually happening to me.
22:48I can't believe it.
22:49And I'm ready for it.
22:50I'm excited.
22:53I love the collection.
22:54It's really hot.
22:55Ooh.
22:56Whoa.
22:57It's nasty.
22:58It's nasty.
22:59I love my collection.
23:00It's hot.
23:01This is hot.
23:02I am exhausted because I haven't been asleep in two days just pretty much trying to finish
23:16up this collection.
23:18I feel really good about my collection.
23:19I think it's what everyone wants to see from me.
23:20I really want to win, if not for any other reason.
23:33Just so that Jeffrey doesn't win.
23:34Hello.
23:35I can't believe it.
23:36There's a great man at the door.
23:37Oh!
23:38It's great being back in New York City.
23:39I couldn't wait to get here actually and to see all the designers and actually my biggest
23:48fame was just seeing how their collection came together and what I'm competing against.
23:53I'm going to surprise some of the other designers.
23:54I want to win and I'm going to win.
23:55Hey guys!
23:56Oh!
23:57Oh!
23:58Oh my!
23:59There she is!
24:08Ah!
24:09You're all.
24:10No, no, it's okay.
24:11It's okay.
24:12How are you?
24:13What are you doing?
24:14Oh!
24:15I could not wait to get here actually and to see all the designers and actually my biggest
24:17thing was just seeing how that connection came together and what I'm competing against.
24:21I'm kind of surprised some of the other designers.
24:22No, it's okay, it's okay.
24:24How are you?
24:25How are you?
24:26How are you?
24:27I don't know that I can start.
24:33Now I'm here, and I'm excited to be going to Olympus Fashion Week.
24:37I've busted my ass, and, you know, I've gotten everything done that I want to get done,
24:42because I know that there's probably going to be some kind of surprise,
24:45and I want to be prepared.
24:47I'm going to win it all.
24:50Car, money, fame.
24:57And there he is.
24:59Hey!
25:01How was your life, Jeffrey?
25:03How was my life?
25:04Yeah, are people throwing eggs at you?
25:06No, not at all.
25:07No, they love you?
25:08Not at all.
25:09No, you're cool.
25:10You're the coolest guy.
25:11Jeffrey, go.
25:12I've had...
25:13What's going on, Jeffrey?
25:14How are you, man?
25:15I'm good, man.
25:16Let's see.
25:17I didn't jump up off the sofa when Jeffrey came in the way I did when Uli did.
25:21How is life, Jeffrey?
25:22It's really good.
25:23Are you super-star in LA now?
25:25It's crazy busy, yeah.
25:26But I haven't rested at all.
25:28Like, three hours of sleep a night.
25:30Four hours of sleep a night.
25:31If that, I was until the night, it was about two days.
25:34All right, good night, you guys.
25:36I can't handle it any longer.
25:38Me neither.
25:39It's the four of us, and, you know, we're all pretty confident and ready to go.
25:45Ready to bring the pain.
25:46Coming up on Project Runway.
25:51Hey.
25:52It just looks sort of cartoon-y.
25:55If we all want to, it's gonna be fine.
25:58Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:59Definitely.
26:00Yes.
26:01Today is our first full workday, and it's exciting to get back in the workroom with Uli and Michael,
26:16and even the tension that Jeff tries to cause.
26:19Oh, wow.
26:20This is our workspace.
26:21Nice.
26:22Cool.
26:23Nice.
26:24Cool.
26:25It's cool.
26:26Yeah.
26:27Everybody was trying to front like they weren't really trying to look at everybody's collection,
26:31but I know everybody was, because I'm not gonna even lie.
26:32I wasn't.
26:33No, I'm joking.
26:34Do you have a lot of, like, three-piece outfits, Jeffrey?
26:35I have eight dresses, one bathing suit, and three separates.
26:36It looks like you have a lot of pieces.
26:37I think it's the plastic bags that add this illusion of volume to it.
26:41Oh.
26:42Hi, everybody.
26:43Hi, Tim.
26:44Hi, Tim.
26:45How are you?
26:46I'm good.
26:47How are you?
26:48I'm great.
26:49Thanks.
26:50Designers, may I ask you to gather around, please?
26:53Welcome to your workspace, courtesy of Madeleine.
26:56Thank you, Tim.
26:57I'm very good.
26:58Thanks.
26:59First, I want to congratulate each of you.
27:02You are going to Olympus Fashion Week.
27:17It is the industry's biggest stage.
27:21You need to think about your entire presentation.
27:24presentation this is going to be an extremely busy week and today is no exception and it's been
27:29a few weeks since i've seen each of you so i'm eager to check on your progress and jeffrey i'd
27:34love to start with you cool okay yes yes thanks so where are you with your progress i've i'm really
27:41i'm in good really good shape this is a look with the leather vest it's stunning yeah it's beautiful
27:46it's really stuff absolutely love it really is then that inspired the handbag oh yeah this is
27:53beautiful right with the zippers out of the old blazer pieces i may not even use these um i made
28:00them because i was thinking well i don't have this fabric anywhere else okay all right what else do
28:06you have left to do nothing congratulations thank you thank you it's been a lot a lot of work yeah
28:13carry on carry on can i see you next yes of course i would like to start with this little outfit i
28:22think it goes really nice into the safari theme i'm really anxious to see these on some of your
28:29models like worried anxious yeah well more about proportion yeah than anything else about how they
28:37really work i mean in some ways i miss your prints i think i'm gonna be like what happened
28:43okay okay uli i'm with you all week we'll get through all this yeah i hope you see some on the
28:49girls laura can i see you next great so this is a gorgeous way to start instead of just having you
28:56know a short dress i really just wanted to go all out with this piece and really the detailing is
29:01incredible this yoke this isn't this is amazing and you got rid of the chartreuse popsicle got rid of
29:08all the color basically but this looks like a 12-piece collection yeah yeah just have details to work
29:19out yeah you'll be you'll be fine so i'm there you are there okay i am there michael when i saw you
29:30there wasn't a lot finished
29:32let's look at the rest of it this is another look a take on a safari style shirt it just looks sort of
29:47cartoony it looks like you were trying too hard
29:52and we've got this bling happening well here i have two thoughts one is to go over the top with
30:03this the other would be to start taking them away from these anyway you just need to pull this all
30:09together and make it look as though it all fits in the closet of the same woman okay all right
30:17it's make it work time michael yeah it is hmm everybody you were each given a budget of eight
30:24thousand dollars and i'd like to collect the receipts before i leave today
30:28great thank you jeffrey you have yours yeah just making sure i have sketches in here i had it all
30:36together okay so i just gotta
30:38so designers i will see you a little later all right
30:48all right we'll check back with you okie dokie thank you
30:51thanks tim
30:52tim questioned my collection i would rather go way over the top than not to do anything at all because
31:05it would be a boring show yeah let's have to rework those things and um i'll be golden
31:10the main thing is basically the model fitting you have to pick the right girl for the right outfit
31:17that can either make the outfit or it could be your downfall
31:21all right all right we need you to walk for us
31:29we had our model casting today which i was really excited for like this is the fun stuff i really
31:39wanted a really really strong walker
31:41i was thinking about the individual dresses that i have and what sort of requirements i have to make
31:50those dresses look the best that they possibly can
31:52how are you i think we just need to call the rhythm
31:59he knows what you can do
32:00hey can you pull your hair back for a minute
32:02my biggest concern was you know getting the models getting the right size and shape models
32:07getting the right skin tone on the models their walks
32:10i know who you are yes
32:14she's michael's
32:19yes
32:19no i'm not the man i just like them
32:22i can't help what i like
32:23if we all want to
32:26it's gonna be a fight
32:29hello
32:37hello how are you
32:39hi good to see you
32:41after we did the model choosing we had our first consultation for hair
32:46it's a feeling of but modify it to each model so they look their prettiest
32:52i really want big roller set hair
32:55what you want is you want the hair to bounce and move
32:58yeah love it
32:59so i see you brought the look with you
33:01i brought the look
33:02i chose the wigs because they're all the same
33:05i want the girls to sort of be a blank slate for the clothes
33:08we could have this really clean hard edge here
33:12and then keep all of this kind of soft
33:15yeah
33:16i want her to look natural but pretty
33:21there's some softness a little bit of flyaway texture
33:23okay
33:24well i'm excited
33:25me too
33:26i will see you in olympus fashion week
33:29yeah
33:29i was really anticipating getting into the workspace because i can't wait to see the models
33:45and to start fitting my pieces on them
33:47this is when it all comes together
33:49are we ready to go
33:54we go to macy's
33:56or are we going without jeff
33:57oh there you
33:57what's going on
34:07congratulations
34:08thank you
34:10how comfortable are you with swimsuits
34:12i have a swimsuit do you wear those
34:14hi how are you
34:16all right
34:17i have this one dress that needs
34:19some boobs
34:21hi really
34:22hi
34:23it's cute on her huh lara
34:26i'm jeff
34:29nice to see you
34:30jeffrey hasn't had a lot of alterations to do for the models that he's fitted today
34:34and a lot of his dresses are very full at the bottom so it's a much easier sort of dress to fit
34:40and then i'm gonna attach that but no you're perfect i understand that there's not alterations
34:46to do but the fact that every hook every seam is finished every hem is done it's just
34:53it just doesn't seem possible awesome yes coming up on project runway how can it be that
34:59he doesn't have a single hook to put on that's true i just doubt that he actually had the time
35:04to execute those garments in the time we were given
35:10we're going to consult with college strong from l'oreal paris to start working on our makeup looks
35:21hey good for the makeup i was thinking of something more muted like a block of a more animal like
35:28you really look like a tiger or something the makeup a nude shiny i love the shine see the
35:35reflection that it creates yeah cool you like it love it my idea was to go with a strong eye
35:42what can be interesting too and very youthful is the girls had hardly any makeup on thank you bronze
35:49chloe and then just use a lot of shimmery shadow and highlighter yeah yeah see you on tv then i guess
35:58okay bye bye i have to figure out how this whole thing now twists
36:17i've been thinking about this actually for the last two days
36:19i just don't believe that jeffrey sewed that collection himself
36:27he sat there all day twiddling his thumbs and staring at his model cards how can it be that he
36:31doesn't have a single hook to put on that's true i just doubt that he actually had the time
36:35to execute those garments in the time we were given especially when he talks about how he was also
36:42working on his own collection exactly i mean i've left my house to eat twice really have no problem
36:47with jeffrey i believe it's his designs but you just don't pull craftsmanship like that out of your
36:54ass things that i'm talking about like incredible finishing on the inside of the apartments grosgrain
37:00covered seam allowances and it will stop it's surely suspicious that his level of craftsmanship
37:07bumped up so fast laura it's not that perfect look this is not perfect
37:12i don't know we noticed the leather jeans at first at the same time like damn those are really
37:19damn good and thoughts start going to my mind as well you know we've never seen that type of work
37:24from him before you know we're all saying the same thing the jeans look really good but we can't
37:30prove he got the thing is i think he designed all these things no i have no doubt that they're his
37:34designs no i totally know what you're saying but i think when he comes back he senses and we should
37:40say something because just yeah i'm gonna have to say something now because now it's going to be
37:45like the big elephant in the room and everybody's ignoring like no i don't do this at all like this
37:50this is just not what i do at all you know what michael it's not what i do either believe me when he
37:55gets back you're telling him right now exactly what i said hi everybody hi tim how are you today went
38:04pretty good but i still miss four girls but you've made decisions about who's wearing yes yes back
38:10up girls i always tried like three four outfits and because sometimes in the end things don't work
38:15out and i could go back and swap around this is gonna be my finishing dress because it's such a long
38:22dress before it was like just a little now it looks much stronger all right thank you laura how about
38:28you i'm i'm just have one left to show up you're kidding you've had 11 girls so i'm just doing you know
38:35finishing touches you know moving of a hook and a snap and you know slight adjustment to the hand
38:40and things like that okay can i tell you something privately do you want to go out on the terrace um
38:46um sure okay sure all right yeah this is gorgeous it's nice jeffrey spends a lot of time out here
38:56so speaking of jeffrey i just believe that jeffrey didn't sew his collection on his own
39:03it's a lot of work that he did in that amount of time everything is completely finished on the inside
39:09they're leather jeans that are top stitched to perfection and he never had that kind of
39:15craftsmanship before i don't doubt that it's his design that it's his aesthetic that it's his fabric
39:22i just know that he's been talking about how busy he was doing his collection for his showrooms
39:29it's nothing that i can prove it's a gut feeling i just wanted to go on record as having said i just
39:35don't believe he did all that something on his own it can be very difficult if not impossible to prove
39:42something like this but what i also want to assure you of is that i'm taking it to the producers
39:48and we will investigate this as well as we can all right thank you
39:56okay i'm going to let you all carry on get back to work and i will see you tomorrow okay okay
40:03i think some people are going to feel like i was like a total bitch to bring it up or say anything
40:10but it just didn't happen there's no way that that collection was sewn exclusively by jeffrey in the
40:15last two months coming up on project runway jeffrey laura has an announcement to make i just wanted to
40:23tell you that i told tim gunn i felt that you had outside help to finish them
40:27that i thought that your garments were so well finished and the level of craftsmanship was so
40:42bumped up from what i've seen you do all season that i felt that you had outside help to finish them
40:47oh absolutely not i mean i've yeah i've come on this show to show what i can do you know all right
41:00but they it's why i'm here right i worked every single day on this no no no i worked every single
41:06day i didn't i didn't waste one day of my one minute of my time and two not to put it on her because
41:14when she said it i was thinking the same i'm like damn these jeans look good as hell not one time
41:20yeah they're yeah yeah and they they're beautifully made you know no doubt yes it does look really
41:26perfect yeah it's perfect this is bryant park yeah yeah it's perfect it's about design it makes me pissed
41:34it makes me sad because i know what i've done in order to get to this level i had a feeling that i
41:40felt i needed to express and now you know what it is all right all right yeah
41:54i'm not going to apologize for bringing it up that's what i'm not going to do it's sort of pitiful
42:01you know she figures that if anyone does better than her then they must be cheating it's crazy
42:08i just don't get it who cares what you think
42:24jeffrey's reaction it's not the reaction you would expect from jeffrey i would accept him to say you
42:31know hey what the hell bitch i made this stuff myself shut up are we ready hopefully um there
42:38won't be you know horrible tension in the work room all right let's go work
42:42i started my business by sewing hundreds of one-of-a-kind pieces for celebrities i can't
42:57sew perfectly really quickly i can however sew more than perfect when i have all my own time to do it on
43:09i want to begin this conversation by telling you everybody here is innocent until proven guilty
43:27some concerns have been raised about the execution of your work and whether it's really been all been
43:34done by you we need to look into this i wanted to give you the opportunity now before any of that
43:39happens to declare to me whether you had extra help above and beyond what we would ordinarily let you do
43:47no okay no i sent a vest to be pleated and i sent the pieces of the shorts to have pleating and that was
43:57it so this all by you yes bag yes and this vest this leather vest yes i did all the quilting by hand
44:07and all this finishing yes and the zipper so yeah to get that made would be easily 600
44:14dollars well we're going to be looking at your receipts carefully and looking into this yeah thank
44:19you jeffrey uh-huh i made the entire collection but uh i'm scared to death that i'm not going to be
44:29showing at bryant park right now i'm like walking into the dark
44:36next on project runway i did start the scandal i'm friends with you and then you're not friends
44:47with me and that's your problem laura i mean just crazy and stupid may i ask you to get around please
44:54we have taken these concerns very seriously and unfortunately
44:58i cannot believe i'm here
45:06we have this one time to prove to the world and the rest of the fashion industry that you belong here
