The Bank of England isn't just the UK central bank, it's also home to one of London's

most iconic buildings. Located on Threadneedle Street, the site has become the bank's headquarters

since 1734. The current building was designed in the 20th century by architect Sir Herbert

Baker, though parts of the original 18th century design by Sir John Soane still remain.

From the outside, you'll notice its massive fortress-like walls, with no windows at street

level, a reminder of the treasure once stored inside. In fact, beneath the building lies some

of the largest gold vaults in the world, holding hundreds of billions of pounds worth of gold.

Inside the bank is a mix of classical grandeur and modern offices, with ornate halls, columns
