00:00With Budget 2026 approaching, transport expert Wan Agil Wan Hassan urged the government to prioritise modest, high-impact investments over costly megaprojects.
00:11The founder of transport think tank MyMobilityVision told FMT that simple initiatives like shaded walkways, safer crossings and better first-and-last-mile connections could transform daily commuting.
00:23Wan Agil argued that new residential areas and malls should not be approved unless connected to public transport as people shouldn't need a car just to buy groceries or get to work.
00:35He highlighted that poor transport access forces Malaysians to overspend on commuting and called for more reliable and affordable options like buses and on-demand vans, even in smaller cities.
00:45Describing road safety as a national crisis, he said a budget promising safe walking and cycling access to public transport would have a greater impact than another mega-highway.
00:57Transport consultant Rosli Khan backed shifting focus to rail, urging more investment in rail infrastructure as the East Coast railing nears its 2027 launch.
01:06Rosli also called for a bypass rail line to Port Klang, noting that freight trains now face bottlenecks through KL Central, which limits cargo movement and harms national competitiveness.
01:19Pan Yuzhou, FMT.
