00:00One of the most beloved indie games of all time is finally getting a sequel.
00:04That's right, Hades 2 is on the way, and we've now got the official release date,
00:09details about the new protagonist, and some pretty exciting gameplay information.
00:13If you love the first game, this is a sequel you're not going to want to miss.
00:18Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel.
00:20If you're new here, I cover the latest in gaming, reviews, retrospectives, and news updates.
00:25Today, we're diving deep into Hades 2, what we know, how it connects to the first game,
00:31and why fans are already calling it one of the most exciting releases of 2025.
00:37Before we get into the sequel, let's talk about why Hades was so groundbreaking.
00:42Released in 2020, after a long early access period, Hades redefined the world-like genre.
00:48It put Blairs in the role of Zagrus, son of Hades, as he tried to escape the underworld.
00:53What made it stand out wasn't just the addicting gameplay loop,
00:57it was the way story and character development were woven into that loop.
01:02Every escape attempt wasn't just another one, it was another piece of narrative,
01:06another inaction with the gods of Olympus, or a deeper look into Zagrus' relationships.
01:12Combined with a gorgeous art style, incredible voice acting, and music that became instantly iconic,
01:18it's no surprise Hades won multiple Game of the Year awards and became a must-play title.
01:25Now, let's talk about the big shift in Hades 2.
01:28Instead of Zagrus, this time, you'll be playing as Melano, Princess of the Underworld.
01:34She is actually part of real Greek mythology, known as goddess associated with ghosts, nightmares, and witchcraft.
01:41In the game, she's also Zagrus' sister, which means we'll be exploring a brand new perspective on the Underworld.
01:49Where Zagrus was reckless and rebellious, Melano feels like a more determined and mystical character.
01:55She's been trained in witchcraft and combat, making her a totally different kind of fighter.
02:00And her mission is even more ambitious than Zagrus.
02:04She's setting out to defeat none other than Kronos, the titan of time, who also happens to be the father of Hades himself.
02:12That's a huge narrative step up.
02:15The first game had Zagrus breaking out of the Underworld, but here, we're dealing with cosmic level stakes.
02:21Kronos represents an ancient threat beyond the Olympians, which meant the gods we met in Hades 2 are going to play an even more critical role.
02:31At its core, Hades 2 is still a roguelike dungeon crawler.
02:36You'll fight your way through procedurally generated areas, collect broons from the gods, and unlock permanent upgrades between runs.
02:43But Melano's fighting style brings new layers to the combat.
02:47She doesn't just use weapons, she channels witchcraft.
02:51That means her toolkit includes both melee and magical attacks, with a heavier emphasis on spells and enchantments compared to Zagrus.
03:00We've already seen footage of her wielding a sickle, summoning familiars, and using time-based attacks that tie directly into Kronos as the central antagonist.
03:10Supergiant has also revealed that players will once again meet gods and goddesses from the Greek pantheon, each offering broons that change your playstyle.
03:21But because this is a new protagonist and storyline, we're going to meet new deities as well, not just the familiar faces like Zeus, Athena, and Poseidon.
03:30Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, is already confirmed as one of Melano's allies and mentors, which lies perfectly into the witchcraft theme.
03:39One of the biggest strengths of Hades was how it had a story across repeated runs, and Hades 2 is continuing that approach.
03:48Every failed attempt won't feel like a loss, it'll feel like another chapter in the narrative.
03:54Melano's relationships with other characters, her dialogue with the gods, and her rivalry with Kronos will all evolve as you play.
04:02This time, though, the theme seemed darker.
04:05The first game dealt with rebellion, family dynamics, and self-discovery.
04:10The sequel looks like it's diving into cycles of time, destiny, and power.
04:16Kronos being the villain isn't just about stopping a titan, it's about resisting inevitability itself.
04:22That gives the story a bigger philosophical edge, while still keeping the personal character-driven writing that Supergiant is famous for.
04:30Visually, Hades 2 keeps the same hand-painted, vibrant aesthetic that made the original so distinct.
04:38Supergiant's art direction is one of their strongest features, and from what we've seen, the environments are more varied than before,
04:46ranging from shadowy forests to eerie magical sanctuaries.
04:50And then there's the music.
04:52Darren Korb, who composed the soundtrack for the first game, is back again.
04:56That means we can expect another blend of heavy-driving combat music, and softer, atmospheric tracks that give the underworld its haunting mood.
05:05For fans of the first game's soundtrack, this is almost as exciting as the gameplay itself.
05:11Now for the part everyone's been waiting for, the release date.
05:15Hades 2 is officially launching in full release on September 25th, 2025.
05:21If you're in the eastern US, that's 12pm eastern time, and the release will be simultaneous worldwide.
05:28That's not far away at all, and the hype is only building.
05:32Right now, Hades 2 is confirmed for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
05:38Console versions are expected, though Supergiant hasn't nailed down the details yet.
05:43If the rollout is anything like the first game, we'll see a staggered release with consoles following after the PC launch.
05:53So why is this sequel such a big deal?
05:55Because Hades wasn't just a successful indie, it was a cultural phenomenon.
06:00It set a new standard for roguelikes, narrative design, and even how early access could be done right.
06:07Supergiant isn't a massive studio with hundreds of developers.
06:10They're a small, tight-knit team that has consistently delivered genre-defining games.
06:17Bastion, Transistor, Pyre, and Hades.
06:20They don't release sequels often, which makes Hades 2 feel like an especially rare event.
06:27If Hades redefined the roguelike for a mainstream audience, Hades 2 has the chance to push it even further.
06:33Deeper combat, bigger stakes, and a fresh perspective through Melano.
06:37So that's everything we know so far about Hades 2.
06:41We've got a brand new protagonist, a bigger mythological conflict, darker themes, and a release date that's closer than ever.
06:49I'll definitely cover more updates as they come out.
06:52Now, I want to hear from you.
06:55What do you think of the switch to Melano as the main character?
