00:00Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03A new police enforcement area is to be built at a notorious accident black spot in North Derbyshire
00:09after a sustained campaign won the support of the county's police and crime commissioner and the highways authority.
00:15However, a bereaved husband and father has claimed that the move is simply callous and insensitive.
00:21The A632 between Chesterfield and Matlock has been the scene of several serious incidents in recent years,
00:26including one in which a mother and son were killed in a head-on collision just before Christmas in 2023.
00:33Derbyshire County Council has now agreed to fund the installation of a purpose-built bay
00:37which will allow police to deploy their speed enforcement van where currently there is no space for them to safely conduct operations.
00:45Initial planning is now underway to identify a suitable location with hopes that construction can start by December.
00:51However, Tyneside resident Billy Boyack, who witnessed the crash in which his wife Angela and son Stephen died on their way home from holiday, said
00:59Any measure that improves safety on this road is a welcome thing.
01:03However, the improvement needs to be appropriate and meaningful to have any impact.
01:07Sadly, in this case, it is inadequate, inappropriate and just pays lip service to what everyone knows is required.
01:13A Derbyshire mum who harnessed her love of cheerleading to create a fitness brand had cheers ringing in her ears when she was presented with a top award.
01:24Jessica Greaves of Ridding was named Fitness Presenter of the Year at the British Fitness Awards.
01:29She is the founder of POMFIT, which she describes as an all-singing, all-dancing, pom-pom-shaking workout.
01:35Sixteen of the women whom she guides at a class in Belper were with her when she won her award in Liverpool.
