00:00Uganda's longtime leader, President Yoweri Museveni, has officially launched his bid for re-election, hoping to extend a presidency that began back in 1986.
00:12Now 81 years old, Museveni was confirmed as a candidate after over 2 million supporters signed on to back his run, according to his party.
00:22The national resistance movement dominates Uganda's weak parliament. In 2017, lawmakers scrapped presidential age limits, allowing Museveni to rule indefinitely.
00:33Museveni has vowed to boost foreign investment and has highlighted past achievements.
00:38But he faces a fierce challenge from Bobby Wine, a popular musician turned politician who captured 35 percent of the vote in 2021.
00:47Wine says the election was stolen, a claim authorities deny.
