Actor Vijay has approached the Madras High Court to contest a Rs 1.5 crore penalty imposed by the Income Tax Department for failing to disclose an additional income of Rs 15 crore during 2015-2016. The IT Department has opposed the plea, maintaining that the fine was correctly levied under Section 271 AAB of the Income Tax Act. The case, part of several financial matters involving Vijay, was scheduled for hearing on October 10, with the actor’s legal team challenging the penalty.

00:00news that's coming in at the moment it's the income tax department that has opposed
00:14Vijay's petition against the tax penalty in the Madhuas High Court. Vijay all said to pay
00:191.5 crore rupees as penalty for the non-disclosure of income. Vijay didn't declare the additional
00:25income of 15 crore rupees in 2015-2016. The IT department says that these fines have been
00:31rightly imposed under section 271 AAB of the IT Act. Madhuas High Court all said to take a call on
00:38the 10th of October. This is what we are seeing now. Act of Vijay against the income tax department.
00:44Act of Vijay has to now pay a penalty of 1.5 crore rupees. Now this for the non-disclosure of income.
00:50Vijay did not declare the additional income of 15 crore rupees in 2015-16. The IT department says
00:57that this is a fine which has been rightly imposed on the section 270 AAB of the IT Act.
01:04Madhuas High Court all said to take a call on the 10th of October.
01:09My colleague Pramod Madhav is now joining me on the story. Pramod, we are now seeing how it is
01:14actor Vijay who's now gone ahead and filed a petition against the income tax department.
01:19The penalty is actually a whopping 1.5 crore rupees.
01:24It surely is. And there are multiple cases when it comes to income tax and certain like
01:28buying luxury cars and such which are still pending. And on one such case what happened is
01:33that like now Vijay's team has gone ahead and approached Netra's high court where now income
01:37tax is opposed to 70 claim. The income tax officials have said that like the team of 2022
01:44a rich petition filed by the actor against the penalty IT department senior standing council
01:49has stated that the fine had been rightly imposed and they have also mentioned the section 271 AAB1
01:55of the IT Act. And this is about a fine of rupees 1.5 crore just like you mentioned of like I know
02:01assets between 2015 and 2016. Well like this now the Madhav High Court will take a call on it
02:06and it has been postponed for October 24, October 10. However, Vijay's team has very clearly mentioned
02:11that you know they want to go against this particular plea and that's why they have approached
02:16the Madhav High Court.
02:19Right. Thank you Pramod giving us all those details. It's not just one case but multiple
02:23cases actor Vijay at the moment is looking at. He's now knocking on the doors of the court.
02:27He's filed a petition against the income tax department.
02:30News that's coming in from the national capital now. It's a Delhi shelter home horror that has come
02:43to the forefront. Renowned shelter home molestation case has come to the fore. The director of a house
02:50now has molested 15 girls and they were all students and he's the one who's absconding now.
02:56Molestor's fake diplomatic vehicle has also been seized. Fake UN numbers on the molestor's
03:02shelter house. Police are now tracing the shelter home monster to Agra. So this is something
03:07which is now coming to the fore. My colleague Himanchu Mishra is now joining me on the story.
03:12Himanchu bohat hii dardanaak aur bohat hii ek del dehlane wala case joo saamne nazat
03:18shelter house. Molestation ka case hai. Lag bag 15 lardkiyun ko molest kiya gaya hai.

05:02all the updates with regards to the markets
05:04the Business Today show
05:06Abha over to you
05:22Good morning and welcome to market opening on our brand new collab show between Business Today and India Today TV.
05:31It's 9am and we're here to get you ahead of the curve as markets kick off trading for the day.
05:36Let's take a look at what's hot in the corporate and financial space this morning.
05:41A big shake up for Indian techies eyeing jobs in the US.
05:44Days after hiking the fees on H1B visas, the Trump administration is proposing foundational changes to the system.
05:51Instead of a random lottery, visas will now be allocated based on skill level and wages.
05:57Higher paid, high skilled workers will get priority while entry level applicants could see their chances shrink.
06:08US central bank chief Jerome Powell flags high valuations on Wall Street and warns that inflation could return if interest rates were cut too aggressively.
06:17Comments trigger profit booking in US markets with the red-hot tech stocks shedding some of their recent gains.
06:28HSBC upgrades Indian stock market after 8 months, sets Sensex target at 94,000.
06:33Says India is Asia's quiet corner with resilient domestic investors despite foreign fund outflows.
06:39Food delivery giant Swiggy approves 2,400 crore rupees stake sale in Rapido to process in Westbridge Capital.
06:50Exit comes as Rapido enters food delivery space marking one of the year's biggest start-up deals.
06:55Accenture eyes major Andhra Pradesh push proposes a 10-acre campus in Rishaka Patnam under the state's land policy at just 99% acre with plans to add 12,000 jobs.
07:12Reuters reports citing sources India already its biggest global base with over 3 lakh staff.
07:19All right, let's start with the global set-up then and some amount of profit booking coming in last night.
07:39Remember after those record highs on those tech stocks as they keep the momentum intact on Wall Street.
07:45Let's quickly pull up some of those global indices for you as well as the overnight actions so you can take a look.
07:50And the Fed commentary also continuing to warn a little bit about economic outlook going ahead.
07:55So just those cues coming in for some amount of profit booking across the board in the US markets overnight.
08:01In other global news, of course, we're tracking very closely for you the H-1B visa fallout.
08:06Now that lifeline that we thought was in place could be slipping out of reach for thousands of Indian IT workers.
08:12It's not just the 90 lakh rupee fee that the US has imposed on each visa.
08:17The Donald Trump administration is now proposing radical changes to the entire system.
08:22The traditional H-1B lottery is likely to be scrapped and replaced with a wage-based system.
08:28Workers will be slotted into four wage bands with those at the top getting multiple chances in the draw.
08:33And the highest tier will be the one earning over $160,000 annually and will be entered into the selection pool four times.
08:42In contrast, the lowest tier gets just one entry, increasing the probability of the highest paid, highest skilled applicants being selected.
08:51Importantly, the draw will be for one position instead of the current generic lottery for 85,000 positions.
08:58The fresh proposal adds to the steep $100,000 fee on new petitions as well.
09:04Business groups warn it may shut out young talent while legal experts say the plan could trigger court challenges as well.
09:12We will, of course, bring you more on that as it continues to develop and also overnight, of course, remember Piyush Goyal has been in the US Commerce and Industry Minister to further bilateral trade discussions.
09:28Little is known about the progress so far, but what the Minister has spoken about is the vast scope of trade in energy and nuclear sectors.
09:37Let's listen to it.
09:38We expect to increase our trade with the US on energy products many years to time.
09:47And being close friends, natural partners, our energy security goals will have a very high element of US involvement,
10:02which will ensure price stability, which will ensure diversified sources of energy for India,
10:13and help us unlock limitless possibilities in the US on various fronts, energy and beyond.
10:23Another area where India and the US have planned to work together is nuclear law.
10:33It's an area that we've been talking about for a long time.
10:36All right, let's look at the trade setup this morning.
10:41We've got Gaurang Shah joining us.
10:43We've also got Shailendra Bhattnagar with us.
10:45As always, let's dive deep into what the setup's looking like.
10:48Shail, first, give us a quick look at the Nifty and what the benchmark's expected to do today.
10:58Good morning, Abha.
10:59Hello, Gaurang.
11:00And a warm welcome to everyone on this lovely Wednesday morning.
11:03Well, a bit of profit booking will still continue on the Lal Street Abha.
11:08The Nifty will test its 21-day EMA, and that's probably because of a weakness, continued weakness in tech stocks.
11:15Bank Nifty, on the other hand, is looking much, much better.
11:19A record high on State Bank of India.
11:21Strong moves in Axis and Kotak banks are helping this index.
11:26HDFC and ICICI are flat at the moment, but they'll be used a little later to take the Nifty to a record high.
11:32Apart from that, you'll see a lot of demand coming in for PSU stocks,
11:36especially the private banking space within the PSU spectrum, stocks like Canada Bank.
11:41Auto continues to hog the limelight, although we have seen a very sharp rally on Hyundai and Maruti,
11:50but top draw there. A lot of caution is advised on the long side.
11:54All in all, a weak Wednesday today as far as the Nifty is concerned,
11:59but overall a strong momentum as far as the broader markets are concerned.
12:03Aabha.
12:04Okay, great. I'm going to come back and ask you a little bit more detail on both auto and financial Shell,
12:09but let me bring in Gaurang. Gaurang, good morning.
12:11Just counting down to opening and a lot of big news makers today as well.
12:14What's your overall take first on the sentiment on D Street this morning?
12:18Thank you so much, Aabha, for having me on this show.
12:21Good morning to all the viewers of India Today and BT TV.
12:24Good morning to you and to my good friend, Shell.
12:26I agree with Shell. I think it's going to be a soft opening.
12:30If I'm not mistaken, tomorrow is the monthly expiry of the Urtano segment,
12:35so you could expect a little bit of elevated volatility in the market.
12:39Having said that, I think there is going to be sector-specific and stock-specific news, Aabha,
12:46which will be in focus. Weakness on IT will continue given the new development overnight
12:52in terms of lottery system, as you were mentioning, being scrapped off.
12:57And more skill-based and fee-based or salary-based rollout should be done
13:02as far as H-1B visa is concerned.
13:04So, IT will continue to be under pressure, but we remain positive on IT
13:07from a long-term point of view.
13:09Defence is something that will continue to hog the limelight.
13:13We discussed it even last time about the markets and the defence sector,
13:18cap goods engineering along with that.
13:19And I think Spotlight will definitely be on the cement sector as well,
13:23given the kind of infrastructure activity that we are witnessing.
13:26Okay. Well, I've also got to get your view on Swiggy Gaurang.
13:31Let me just run our viewers through the news.
13:34They are set to exit Rapido.
13:36And remember, of course, Swiggy has been running in losses,
13:41so this news is actually quite positive for the counter
13:45because, you know, they forayed into food delivery.
13:48The company has now approved the sale of that stake to process in Westbridge Capital for 2,400 crore rupees.
13:54So, you know, lots of action coming in for Swiggy on the basis of that news Gaurang.
14:00How do you think the markets will read into this in terms of, of course, the cash infusion,
14:04the cash infusion, but on the other hand wondering perhaps strategically what this means?
14:08A small disclosure, Abha, because we are talking stock specific.
14:11All recommendations that I'm going to give you on this show are a part of our research team recommendation.
14:16Our company, Jiu Jit or I, we do not have any personal investment, no financial interest, no conflict of interest,
14:21but we give recommendations to our clients on similar lines.
14:24They might have their investment interest.
14:26So, you know, if I compare between Swiggy and Eternal, which was known as Zomato earlier,
14:31Eternal has been on an all-time high, lifetime high, if I'm not mistaken.
14:36And somewhere Swiggy has been struggling in terms of performance.
14:40And it's somewhere close to its IPO price.
14:42I believe it was 385 or 400.
14:45The problem for Swiggy is in terms of earnings visibility and the kind of pressure that is there on the bottom line.
14:52This stake sale of Rapido may be a short-term trigger, Abha,
14:57because it's not going to materially change the earnings of the company.
15:01How are the proceeds going to be utilized?
15:04I think that's going to be very prudent and important.
15:06I guess the management will possibly throw some light over there after some time.
15:10But we do not have coverage on Swiggy, so it's not a recommendation.
15:14But Eternal, that is Zomato, we continue to have a positive coverage.
15:18All right.
15:19In fact, you know, with Instamart, we did see Swiggy see over 100% growth year on year on Instamart.
15:27The AOV rising about 26% to 612 rupees, even though the adjusted EBITDA still remains negative at minus 15.8%.
15:35So that's perhaps the one bright spot they've seen so far this festive season.
15:39But I agree with you, Gaurang, overall, the market's still waiting for clarity.
15:43Having said that, we're still seeing a lot of buy calls coming in on the counter,
15:47and we'll wait to see how it kicks off on opening bell.
15:494% up just this week, trading at about 458 right now.
15:53So just counting down now, 3, 2, 1, for opening bell this Wednesday morning.
15:57Let's pull up those ticks for you.
15:59Nifty first, let's see how it's kicked off this morning.
16:03Just down, you know, 0.16%.
16:05So really steady at the moment.
16:07No major profit booking coming in at this point of time.
16:10Just steady, just quiet as we speak.
16:13We've got the Nifty Bank also tepid in early morning trade.
16:16Let's pull up the auto index as well.
16:19IT also continuing to see pressure, but just down about 0.3%.
16:23We did see a little bit of a pullback yesterday.
16:25Auto taking a little bit of a breather today,
16:27and we'll come back and talk to Gaurang about auto in just a moment as well.
16:30PSU Bank, some action there.
16:32I know it's been on Shell's list,
16:33so I'll go back and ask him about some of the names you should be watching out for there as well.
16:37But it's the PSU banks that are a little bit of the bright spot,
16:40not the overall financial space at this point of time.
16:43Let's pull up Swiggy.
16:44Let's pull up the main newsmaker this morning
16:46and see how it's reacting to the Rapido news.
16:49And if there's any kind of reaction coming in there,
16:51that's quite a big deal, a large size in the startup space,
16:55but a moderate reaction on the stock.
16:57It's up just about 0.5%.
16:59Has been up close to 4% in the week,
17:01but just about 0.6% today on the announcement of that deal coming in.
17:06Few other stocks in news, and we'll run you through them
17:09as we continue to chat with our guests.
17:12But let me first go across to Shell
17:14on some of the newsmakers this morning,
17:17as well as Shell, what we're seeing on PSU banks,
17:20what we're seeing in terms of other gainers
17:22or pockets of green in the broader markets.
17:28Well, Abha, I think there's a bit of weakness profit booking
17:32on third consecutive day as far as markets are concerned.
17:35The lone bright spot so far is the nifty PSU banking index up 0.7%.
17:42All 12 stocks are in the green,
17:45and obviously the rallies led by State Bank of India 0.7% higher,
17:49fresh record high.
17:50What's also interesting, Abha, is amongst the top 10 index heavyweights,
17:55only SPI is in the green.
17:57So that goes on to prove how this rally is being treated as far as the markets are concerned.
18:04Advanced decline a bit tepid,
18:061,000 shares in the green, 800 in the red.
18:09And you have profit booking across the board.
18:12You have the 100, 200, nifty 500 indices in the red.
18:17Sectorally, nifty bank, nifty auto, nifty energy is down as far as profit booking is concerned.
18:23All-time highs, well, nothing as of now, but volume buzzers in the form of Minda Corp, Tata Investment, and of course, Shipping Corporation of India.
18:34I would bet a lot of horses on PSU shipping stocks as also shipbuilders, Abha.
18:43All right.
18:44Thanks for that. Shell shipping cop up 2.5% today, in fact.
18:47Gaurang, I want to focus on auto for a moment, though.
18:49Even though we're seeing some amount of quiet today,
18:51we've seen some of those stocks on the roll.
18:54You know, whether it be the two-wheelers, whether it be Maruti, Hyundai.
18:57Aisha, of course, continues to trend at highs.
19:00Eminem has already seen a great pickup, you know, with the Navratras and the festive season kicking off.
19:05And auto ancillaries, we've been talking about that as well,
19:08and how they're also now seeing an uptick on the back of revival in the overall segment.
19:13How are you approaching strategy when it comes to auto?
19:16And are you still a little wary for the longer term?
19:20Or are you looking closely at auto as perhaps things changing more structurally?
19:25Absolutely positive. No doubt about that on autos.
19:29What we witnessed from Monday, that is 22nd, and yesterday, that was 23rd,
19:35was primarily because of the numbers that the companies reported.
19:39I think Maruti sold historical high numbers for the last 34 years.
19:4430,000 vehicles.
19:4611,000 vehicles reported by Hyundai, if I'm not mistaken.
19:51And similarly, a good set of numbers from Tata Motors.
19:54Now, we have to remember one thing that from 15th of August onwards, in the time the Honorable Prime Minister announced this GST rate cut,
20:01I think for the last 40-odd days, all those customers who were wanting to go ahead and book a vehicle,
20:09whether it is two-wheeler, three-wheeler or a four-wheeler, they were holding on for 22nd of September,
20:14given the benefit that they would get.
20:17So, along with the GST benefit, most of the companies have also doled out festive discounts.
20:22So, that added to the positivity in terms of numbers.
20:25It would be prudent to see how these numbers continue as far as the overall month-on-month sales numbers for the next couple of months.
20:33And, of course, what will be the impact on the quarterly earnings?
20:37There is absolutely no doubt that most of the automobile manufacturing companies have also spoken about high demand,
20:43high booking coming in, and that is one of the reasons why inventories have gone down.
20:47Some of the companies have already spoken about Capex because of the high demand to meet up with the high demand.
20:52And along with that, I think export competitiveness will also have a positive impact on the month-on-month numbers that we'll get from all the automobile manufacturing companies.
21:01So, the long-term, okay, I mean, because these stocks have rallied for the last couple of weeks, we are witnessing a little bit of profit booking.
21:08No complaints against that.
21:09But the long-term story for the Indian automobile industry remains very much intact.
21:14All right.
21:17Let me also go across to Krishna now.
21:19He's joining us on the Swiggy News.
21:21Krishna, good morning from a stock market POV.
21:24We were just talking about how perhaps, you know, it's still a little unclear to us how they're going to allocate those funds
21:30and what it'll mean for Swiggy strategically.
21:32Run us through, you know, what you're hearing in terms of the outlook on Swiggy going ahead post this deal.
21:38Hi Abha.
21:39Okay.
21:40For starters, this is really a result of conflict of interest because Rapido, purely from being a ride-hailing service,
21:46is now moving into food delivery, a space that's been occupied by Swiggy and its arts rivals Romanto for a while now.
21:51The way I look at it, Swiggy put in about 1,000 crores in 2022.
21:55They're exiting at about a 2.3x return, which is great.
21:59It also brings cash back into the stable of Swiggy, I think, which is more than welcome.
22:03Also, it opens up the whole business for Rapido in the sense, the moment they're able to map it in terms of,
22:09from being a ride-hailing service, they understand the consumer value, at least that part of the consumer business.
22:13It allows them to get into an allied business like food delivery.
22:16So I think from a strategic sense, it's great.
22:18It also gives the investors, namely process in Westbridge, a chance to hike their stake in Rapido,
22:23something they've been looking at.
22:24There's still been no real talk of Rapido looking to go public.
22:27But to my mind, this could very well lay the foundation for that particular development at some point in time.
22:32But I think overall, it's a good development, brings in money for Swiggy more than anything else,
22:36and I think drive home the point that the conflict of interest is an area that needs to be defined very, very clearly.
22:42But do you really think there's space for a third player, Krishna? That's the big question.
22:47I really think so, Abha, because the market is still very large in India.
22:51We have a large part of India which is still really coming up in that sense.
22:54The availability of data at a low cost obviously opens up the market completely.
23:00And the fact that we have a heterogeneous cuisine across an audience that's very large, I think really sets it up.
23:05So even if you look at larger markets, though it's a duopoly, food habits are pretty much uniform as opposed to India.
23:11So I think it's still an underrepresented market as we speak.
23:14All right. Krishna, thanks so much for joining us this morning.
23:17Gaurang, I want to just come back to you also on the PSU banks that we're looking at this morning.
23:22A lot of action there. We talked about it being a bright spot.
23:24But I think even on the FNO side, we are seeing a whole bunch of these PSU banks that are the top gainers right now.
23:31What's your view when it comes to these names and anything particular there catching your eye or as a theme?
23:37What's your view?
23:39So we have about five or six names under fundamental coverage for the PSU banks.
23:46State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Bank of Florida, Bank of India, Canara Bank and PNB.
23:54These are some five, six names on the fundamental side on which we have positive coverage.
23:58And our anticipation is that the loan demand, that is credit demand, ABBA is going to go up substantially,
24:06which will improve the loan book.
24:08We have had consistent downtick in terms of gross and net NPS, which has enabled the provisions to come back to the balance sheet.
24:15And of course, interest rates coming down over extremely well.
24:18So if I have to put all this thing in perspective, I think the entire BFSI segment, whether it is private sector bank, public sector bank or strong NBFCs,
24:25all these three verticals in the BFSI segments are likely to perform well going into the future.
24:30Okay, great. Shell, a quiet market, but you mentioned lots of other movers there when we last spoke.
24:36On the FNO side, anything else we should be watching out for today?
24:39I think Abha, this day belongs to PSU stocks, in particular PSU banks.
24:48Out of top seven gainers in FNO, you have four PSU banks led by Indian Bank, a record high here, 706.
24:58Bank of Bologa, about a percent higher.
25:00Canara Bank, the third top gainer, 123 rupees at about 0.4 percent higher.
25:06Bank of India, PNB, SBI and of course Union Bank, Federal Bank.
25:12So if you extend the FNO setup for the top 12 gainers, you have eight banks, including two private sector ones,
25:22which is Yes Bank and Federal Bank, all through a broader rally which is taking root.
25:28And this is also a good sign as far as the broader markets are concerned.
25:33You have value coming in.
25:35A bit of view on Swiggy as well as the India internet space.
25:40What's happening Abha is that a lot of established mutual funds are reducing their positions in frontline IT software exporters
25:49because of H1B problems and many other things that you talk about.
25:54But that money is moving into the India internet space.
25:57Look at car trade, look at PNB FinTech.
25:59All these companies have posted very, very smart gains over the last three months or so,
26:05ever since this problem became publicly known.
26:08Lots of other issues as far as the TSPs are concerned, but the India internet space doing very well.
26:14Keep an eye out on Eternal, take my word for it.
26:18Okay, Shail, I'm holding you to that.
26:21It's also good that you brought up car trade because we are seeing some of those counters also seeing record highs
26:28or really sharp movement on the back of the festive season.
26:31So keep an eye on some of these names.
26:33Shail, Gurang, great to have you with us on the show as always.
26:36Have a great day going ahead.
26:38And something interesting for our viewers,
26:40President Trump's big statement against the medicine Tylenol had the opposite effect on the stock price of the drug maker.
26:47The share of Kenview, the company which makes the widely sold medicine,
26:51zoomed as much as 7% in early hours of trading on Wall Street.
26:54It was only later that the price moderated somewhat, but still closed 1.5% in the green.
27:00And before we leave you for the day, visuals of a major technical failure at the UN building in New York.
27:13As US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania stepped on an escalator in the building, it stopped.
27:18The first couple had to climb the stairs to the General Assembly hall where Trump later slammed the UN for this glitch,
27:24as well as another where the autocue machine failed.
27:27MAGA activists are speculating that the glitches were deliberate to stop Trump's speech at the UN.
27:48News that we are tracking at the moment.
27:52It's been 24 hours.
27:53Still, Kolkata is waterlogged.
27:55Kolkata civic mess has now been exposed.
27:58The streets of Kolkata are still inundated.
28:01Shameless passing of the buck is being done by the mayor.
28:04The mayor says cannot do magic to make water disappear.
28:07In fact, the LOP in the state of Bengals,
28:10Vendu Adhikari is now attacking the Mamata Banerjee government.
28:13It is Mamata Banerjee who is responsible for waterlogging and for the deaths.
28:17The IMD had sent out a warning.
28:19Mamata Banerjee did not take precautions.
28:22The deaths are because of negligence of the state government.
28:26Big statement coming in from the state of West Bengal now.
28:28We are seeing it's TMC versus the opposition party in the state of West Bengal,
28:33that is the Bharatiya Janta Party.
28:37We've put several reactions coming in on the story.
28:39Let's listen in.
28:40We are seeing it's a lot of people.
28:42We are seeing it's a lot.
28:43We don't want to smoke this one.
28:44We don't do the magic.
28:45It is waterlogged.
28:46We are all getting on the population.
28:48It's a lot of people.
28:49When the high tide goes on the water,
28:51it's not the waterlogged,
28:52and it's pretty low tide for waterlogged.
28:53Then after this entire night,
28:54the waterlogged came in a poor place.
28:56And when it came here,
28:57it just came here.
28:58It was airlogged.
29:00Then the waterlogged came in the air.
29:02It was airlogged.
29:04The waterlogged came out.
29:05The waterlogged came.
29:06The waterlogged came in,

30:05Colpata did not receive overnight rain. It's a sunny day in the morning today,
30:09but
30:10the marks of yesterday are still visible
30:12as
30:13as we speak here in Kolkata as different places remains to be undated.
30:16We are standing in the Southern part of Kolkata, and this is a Rabindu Southern
30:20area with still remains to be absolutely under water,
30:24and there are several other places in Southern part of Kolkata and Northern part of Kolkata where
30:29The water logging still continues. We have been given to understand that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the state government both have opened helpline numbers and in case of any eventualities those numbers can be dialed.
30:44And what the government says that as it did not rain overnight and weather is seemingly getting better since morning today it is expected that it will take several more hours to clear these areas but you can see it's heavy traffic movement in these areas.
31:03There are several vehicles which have already broke down. There is a government bus which is standing on the side of the road.
31:09There is an alert from the IMD that today and tomorrow there could be scattered rainfall, moderate to light rainfall in different places of Kolkata and suburban areas.
31:20All precautionary measures are being taken by the government so as to meet any kind of eventuality if it takes place.
31:27With Video Chalice Orgo Ghost, this is Tapu Sengupta for India Today in Kolkata.
31:33My colleague Anupam Mishra is now joining me.
31:35Anupam, what we are seeing, the streets have been inundated. A big war of words has broken out.
31:40The BJP now blaming the TMC and saying that all those people who have died, that death is actually on the hands of the Chief Minister, Manta Banerjee.
31:51Well, yes, a big political war has erupted in Kolkata over the flooding and let me show you amid this political war, the exact situation here.
32:02This is the southern part of the city and Minto Park area. And look at these areas.
32:07These are all inundated and Kolkata Municipal Corporation is trying to pump out the water from these areas, trying to drain out the water from these areas.
32:17But since yesterday, the water is receded, receded a bit, but not as expected.
32:26And let me show you the other parts of this area. The people are waiting, waiting to water being receded.
32:34And these are the persons who are waiting here. And let me talk to them.
32:38How are the conditions of the city? You are not allowed to stay in this area anymore.
32:43Where are these people from the office are going?
32:46Where are you from?
32:47We are here from Mahasthala.
32:49There are water in the city there?
32:50There are water in nowhere.
32:53There are also water in New Alipur, the water in the district.
32:54Have you decreased qualquer water from this city or anything?
32:57It has slightly reduced.
32:59But in the city of the city, I don't think we are looking at this site.
33:03Well, you can understand the situation here.
33:22People are waiting that water will recede.
33:24But let me tell you, the water is receding very slowly.
33:28And these are the traffic conditions in the southern part of the city at present.
33:34Long queues are here because of the unindedated water.
33:38These are the flooded streets of Kolkata, southern Kolkata.
33:42These are the posh areas.
33:43Office places are there.
33:45And people are trying to come to office.
33:48But they are getting harassed.
33:50They are facing extreme difficulty because of flooded streets.
33:54Right, Anambam, please stay on with me.
33:55In fact, India today also had an exclusive conversation with the mayor of the city of Kolkata.
34:00Virat Hakeem listened in to what he had to say.
34:25There was a flood in the city of Kolkata.
34:30In fact, our water is quiet.
34:33It's all gone.
34:34The water is quiet.
34:36It's all gone.
34:37Therefore, a lot of water lost.
34:41The water is still low tide is still alive.
34:43So now we have to stop the water.
34:46Our pump-in station is going anywhere.
34:48Colleague Anupam is still with me on the story
34:51Anupam, we are seeing it's a tit for tat
34:53But unfortunately, those who are stuck in this very bad traffic
34:56Stuck in waterlogging are the local citizens
34:59Citizens who are now facing massive problems
35:02Because of this massive waterlogging
35:04Exactly, people are facing a lot of difficulties
35:11And you know, Durga Puja is approaching
35:14And a lot of pandals and a lot of activities are stalled at present
35:19Because of these waters
35:20These waters are not receding as expected
35:23Kolkata Municipal Corporation is trying to drain out the water
35:27It has receded but not as expected
35:30And people are facing
35:31Because it's a weak day
35:32And officers are there
35:34People need to go to offices
35:37But they are waiting at the streets
35:38So that water will recede
35:40These are the government places
35:43These are the government offices here
35:44CBI offices here
35:45And this is the condition of the road at present in these areas
35:49You can see water level here
35:52In the flooded streets of Kolkata
35:55Traffic surgeons are trying to restore the traffic
35:58But it's pretty difficult here
36:00People have to wait hours
36:02To cross minimum 2 kilometers or 3 kilometers
36:05And still there is a chance of the engine of the vehicle
36:10Being seized by the water-locked streets
36:12So there are a lot of cars we have seen
36:15That have
36:16The engines have been seized
36:17And people are facing difficulties
36:19What are these consequences for?
36:21They might be
36:22Very steep
36:23So it should have turned
36:24On any one of these
36:25Can you see

36:41You can see the frustration of the local people, local commuters who are facing extreme difficulties.
36:52They have to reach the office, they have to work and somehow they are dealing with a situation which has not been seen in Kolkata.
37:01So this is the situation right now in the southern part of the Kolkata.
37:05Right, Anupab, please stay on with me. In fact, the mayor of the Kolkata city, Firad Hakim, has reacted to the waterlogging that one can witness across the city. Listen in.
37:16So are you trying to tell people in Kolkata and Bengal at large that the drainage system in Kolkata, which is a 300-year-old city, is working fine?
37:26Yes, 100 percent we have, it is okay that we have, and the people should be rest assured that we will have a funfair during Puja if the rain does not come again.
37:45So you are confident that you will be able to put everything back to normalcy?
37:48Yes, yes.
37:48Because the Puja committees are extremely scared right now given the delusion.
37:52I assure them that the Puja will be, this is the abnormal situation and within a day or two, the situation will be normal if this doesn't occur again.
38:06My colleague Anupam is still with me on the story.
38:09Anupam, what is the impact this change in weather and this massive waterlogging is having on the Durga Pandals?
38:15Because we have seen how the city actually comes alive and the kind of waterlogging that we can see at the moment, the pictures, all of them telling us the sad story of affairs.
38:29Well, you know that the waterlogging has disrupted especially southern Kolkata.
38:35Southern Kolkata had received the maximum rainfall, especially Kadia who had received at least 300 mm rainfall in just three hours.
38:43So basically, let me tell you, the southern part of Kolkata, the south Kolkata has been affected badly and the Puja committees, Puja Pandals are there facing extreme difficulty.
38:55The Pandals have washed away the preparations which they have done for at least several months are facing extreme difficulty.
39:04So it still needs to be, to recede the water.
39:09If water level does not recede, the water does not drain out, it will become extremely difficult for southern Kolkata Puja committees to operate or to start the Puja in the time.
39:22Because you know that it's only one week left for the Durga Puja and the preparations were high.
39:28Not only the preparations, the people were also prepared, they were buying clothes, some of the people were about to buy the clothes, but they are not being able to come out from their houses.
39:41And if they are coming out from their houses, this is the situation at present.
39:45And this area especially, this is a very buzzing area, the Minto Park area, hundreds and thousands of offices are here.
39:53And in a normal day, if you come here, you'll feel the buzz out here.
39:59But right now, this whole area is inundated, the streets are flooded, people are facing extreme difficulty.
40:08So this situation has never been here in Kolkata because, see, water will, the streets will be flooded if rainfall happens so heavily.
40:20But it will recede.
40:21And it happened earlier that water levels have risen, but it has receded in the time.
40:27But this time, since the last 24 hours, the water level has not receded as expected.
40:32And that is why people are facing extreme difficulty.
40:37Right, Anupam. Thank you for giving us those details.
40:39Let's also listen in to what Suvendu Adhikari, who is the leader of the opposition in the state of West Bengal, has to say about this inundation of roads.
40:46Look, this is the leader of the opposition in the state of West Bengal, which is the leader of the opposition in the state of West Bengal.
41:05in India, the question was properly with advance.
41:09The IMD has not been given, but the people who have died due to this government,
41:19the 1 crore CAC, the 1 crore state government, the 1 crore Calcutta corporations should give.
41:35Big news that is coming in now, it's Zelensky, who's given out a big message for India.
41:40He said that India is on our side.
41:42Says Europe must now look at building stronger ties with India, must not withdraw from India.
41:48The Ukrainian president, Zelensky, has now said that India is mostly on our side.
41:53We do have energy problems, but those can be managed.
41:57Europe must now look at building strong ties with India.
42:00We must not withdraw from Indians.
42:02This is a big statement which is coming in from the Ukrainian president now in favor of India and saying
42:07that yes, there are some problems with regards to energy and the oil purchase, but these can be managed.
42:13He's in fact nudging Europe to build stronger ties with India.
42:16Also goes on to say that one must not withdraw with the Indians.
42:23This is a big statement which is now coming in.
42:25It is Zelensky and his big message.
42:27He's saying that India is on Ukraine's side.
42:30Also have now started to nudge the European nations to build stronger ties with India.
42:35Zelensky says must not withdraw from India.
42:38Ukrainian president, Vladimir Zelensky now, has said that no, India is mostly on our side.
42:44We do have problems on the energy front, but those can actually be managed.
42:48Europe must build very strong ties with India.
42:50We must not withdraw from Indians.
42:52This is a big statement which is now coming in from Zelensky, who is now saying that India actually is on their side.
43:01Now, energy is something which even the U.S. President Donald Trump time and again has been speaking about.
43:06In fact, we are seeing how Donald Trump has been blaming India and China for bankrolling the war that is taking place between Ukraine and Russia.
43:14We are now seeing big statement which is coming in from Zelensky.
43:22He's nudging the European nations to build stronger ties with India.
43:25India should not be withdrawn.
43:27We should build bridges with India and also, on record, went ahead and said that India is on Ukraine's side mostly.
43:35There are problems on the energy front, but that is something that can be managed.
43:40A very awkward moment caught on camera at the global stage.
43:56Now, it was President Donald Trump who extended a handshake to the Pakistani Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif.
44:02He probably did not expect a grip, but it just wouldn't end.
44:06In what turned out to be diplomatic tug of war, Chip Kru Shahbaz clung on a bit too long,
44:11forcing Donald Trump to awkwardly pull away his hand, not once, but twice.
44:16A moment that was meant to be a greeting turned out to be a grip and grin.
44:36What you should be expecting are very powerful insights coming in from all of them.
44:48What you should be expecting are very powerful insights coming in from all of them.
45:02In fact, Bollywood's finest, including Rani Mukherjee and Ekta Kapoor,
45:06they are all set to add the star power.
