00:00Gabongan Rakyat Sabah's pledge to appoint a Chinese Deputy Chief Minister if returned to power in the upcoming state polls signals its confidence in securing Bui Pucha's support, according to an analyst.
00:15On Monday, Chief Minister Haji J. Noor said GRS will appoint a Chinese representative to the post of Deputy Chief Minister if it retains power in the upcoming 17th state election.
00:27University Malaysia Sabah's Bill Chirbala said the promise by GRS could have a positive impact on Chinese voters, provided it addresses the community's key concerns, especially in the areas of economic development, better education prospects, and social justice.
00:46He also said cooperation with Pakatan Harapan would be an important factor for GRS, given the coalition's strong support among Chinese voters in urban areas.
00:57Meanwhile, O. E. Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs believed that Haji J.'s announcement would be well-received by the Chinese community, which would pay closer attention to GRS's development plans for the state, particularly in improving infrastructure such as electricity, water, and roads.
