00:00Welcome back to Newswire here on SportsGrid in one of my fantasy football leagues.
00:06I'm off to the worst start in 35 years of me playing fantasy football.
00:11I mean, I think it's year 35.
00:140-3, I've been threatened, Joe, by Mike Cardano and Greg Sussman.
00:19If I'm 0-4, they're taking me off the air on my own show.
00:22I mean, that's how bad it is for me.
00:24My gosh, like, I mean, I can make all the excuses in the world of having Burrow and Aaron Jones and a bunch of other stuff, too.
00:31But, I mean, I got to be able to adjust to some of this stuff.
00:34So, I'm hoping for a better result this week.
00:37But, man, it is not pretty for me right now.
00:39Worst start ever.
00:40Well, maybe it's time to reevaluate when you start the prep.
00:43I know you're like, oh, it's too early to start thinking about fantasy football.
00:47It's too early to start thinking about fantasy football.
00:48No, it's not.
00:49It's never too early.
00:50The day after the Super Bowl is when we start thinking about next year.
00:53So, I'm not saying you got to be that drastic.
00:55But, maybe there's somewhere in between.
00:57Maybe late July we can get you this year.

01:02I do have some hope, I think.
01:04I have 0-3, but some hope.
01:05And I'll get to that here in a minute.
01:07But, first, let's talk about the breaking news from the NFL.
01:09Jackson Dart will start at quarterback for the Giants.
01:14I mean, Joe, this could be the quarterback of the future.
01:16But, I mean, I'm kind of looking to pick up the defense of whoever they're playing right now.
01:21I mean, I don't know.
01:21So, I mean, Cam Ward was so much better than Jackson Dart.
01:25And you can see the kind of struggles that he's having.
01:27Rookie quarterbacks, man.
01:29I mean, for every Jaden Daniels, there's 10 others that don't work out.
01:33Is this a great scenario for him to be starting right now?
01:36I mean, I know they have to do it, but it doesn't seem good for me.
01:40I don't know.
01:40I don't know if it's ever going to be a good scenario, let alone a great one, for Jackson Dart to take over, right?
01:46So, if you're Brian Dable right now, you're 0-3, you're basically out of it.
01:49You're looking up at the Eagles in your division, and you're not catching them, right?
01:53It's just not going to happen.
01:54So, what do you have to do?
01:55Is you have to evaluate some of the choices and decisions you've made?
01:58Now, so far, right, Abdull Carter is a good decision.
02:01Cam Scadaboo certainly looks like a good decision, right?
02:04And now it's time to prove Jackson Dart is.
02:05There's nothing left to see out of Russell Wilson.
02:07I didn't think it was anything in the first place to see.
02:09Why they went that route in the first place, I don't know.
02:11I would have rather have thrown Jameis Winston out there for half a dozen games first,
02:15because Russell Wilson, like, everything's a 50-50 ball, and two-thirds of the time either goes incomplete or to the other team.
02:21So, it's not the ideal situation.
02:23It's not the best matchup.
02:24I want to say next week after this, though, he gets the Saints.
02:26So, a little bit easier matchup there for him.
02:29But, look, the Chargers are going to be a tough test, even with Khalil Mack out.
02:33But you have to start evaluating what you have on this roster, because if Dart starts to play well at some point this season,
02:38it will save the general manager and the coach.
02:41If they could somehow scratch out seven, eight wins by the end of the season,
02:45the ownership might say, okay, things are starting to move in a different direction here,
02:48and maybe we are actually on to something.
02:50And you have to make this move at some point.
02:52I think this is the time to make it.
02:53And I think it's bold.
02:55I think we try.
02:55I think we see what happens.
02:56It can't be worse than Russell Wilson.
02:58At least we're looking to the future and evaluating what's going on.
03:01You still play Malik Neighbors.
03:02You still play Cam Scadaboo.
03:03The rest of it, again, you probably shouldn't be playing anyway.
03:06But that's my evaluation right now.
03:08My comp for him, Jeff Garcia.
03:11That was the comp that I put on Jackson Dart.
03:12That's a great situation.
03:15To me, well, yeah, but here's the thing.
03:17Jeff Garcia, not a guy that was highly touted coming out of college.
03:20A guy that did, you know, move very well, did move out of the pocket well, was not afraid
03:25of contact as a quarterback.
03:26He did all those things.
03:27If you watch the tape of the two of these guys, like right on top of each other, the
03:31way they throw off that front foot, everything looks very similar.
03:34So in a good situation, Jeff Garcia took teams to the playoffs.
03:37In bad situations, Jeff Garcia was a league average quarterback.
03:40So we'll see which Jackson Dart becomes as his career unfolds now in the weeks ahead.
03:45Yeah, again, I would love for that to happen.
03:47And he does have his Owens.
03:48He's got neighbors, right?
03:49So, I mean, some of that does make sense.
03:52Okay, so my favorite player in all of fantasy football on all of our shows is now going to
03:57get his chance, but I'm 0-3.
03:59So that's the silver lining here.
04:00And look, I feel terrible for James Conner.
04:02I do.
04:03But Trey Benson was the guy for me going into the season.
04:06And so now I got my shot to play Trey Benson.
04:08But again, no disrespect at all.
04:11Terrible injury to James Conner.
04:12I don't want to lose sight of that.
04:15Benson's going to get his shot now, Joe.
04:17I think he's going to be a superstar and potential league winner.
04:20I think he's that good.
04:21And I saw him play in college.
04:22I think so, too.
04:23The other player that's going to have more of an opportunity maybe was Omari and Hampton,
04:27who just saw his teammate Najee Harris out for the year.
04:30And I was looking to see who his backup was.
04:31I think it's Haskins, maybe.
04:33And also special teams, there were some crazy scoring this week.
04:36I don't think that was going to continue a little bit of an anomaly around the league.
04:40Basically, everybody's scoring.
04:41The Jets scored.
04:41Seattle scored.
04:42It was up and down.
04:43Philly scored.
04:44So that doesn't happen.
04:45But let's hit on the running backs here.
04:47We'll start off with Benson.
04:48Am I off here?
04:49I think Benson's going to be huge for the rest of the season.
04:52I think he's better than Conner.
04:53I mean, that's why I took him in these leagues.
04:56But I didn't want to go down this road, though, to make it happen.
05:00No, of course not.
05:01But I think everybody knew you could see the age of Conner.
05:03Eventually, things were going to catch up.
05:04Same thing with Aaron Jones, right?
05:06Unfortunately, who you said you drafted earlier.
05:07It was trying to get ahead of the curve here a little bit in 2025.
05:11And I think patience will be rewarded here.
05:13I agree.
05:14Trey Benson has the potential to be a league winner in this scenario.
05:17Amarian Hampton is now getting the whole backfield.
05:19So these two massive injuries really have opened things up for these two running backs.
05:23And I've said, too, rookie running backs, second-year RBs, all these guys here, buy low on them.
05:29Travion Henderson is one more Ramondre Stevenson fumble away from being the only guy you ever see again in the backfield, right?
05:35R.J. Harvey eventually will get his.
05:37What you've seen the last few years in the NFL is they're basically red-shirting these rookie running backs in the month of September.
05:43It happened last year, too.
05:44Happened to Jameer Gibbs.
05:45He didn't have a touchdown in the month of September, right?
05:47Then all of a sudden, he becomes a fantasy god.
05:49But there's got to be a little bit more patience, and there's opportunity with all these guys to buy low in these scenarios.
05:54And it's going to be a year where if you were a hero or zero RB drafter and you took Jordan Mason or Cam Scadaboo or you took some of these rookie RBs,
06:03you're going to be rewarded because it looks like that turning of the guard has already begun.
06:07And, look, the other winner, obviously, besides these running backs who now are at the backfield, was definitely the special teams.
06:13I mean, you don't get defenses winning you weeks, but because of the touchdowns that those defenses scored and, like, the Minnesota Vikings, too, all those defensive touchdowns there,
06:21it was a week where if you had the right defense, they were carrying you over the threshold.
06:25Yeah, Buffalo for me this week.
06:27I'm just fading the Saints.
06:29That's my streaming going on the road, when they're on the road.
06:32So the losers this week, Russell Wilson, of course, he's out.
06:35No longer the quarterback there.
06:37CeeDee Lamb is going to be out.
06:38So you'll tell me who you think gets some catches outside of Ferguson.
06:42They can't throw to that guy 20 times, can they?
06:44And Ramondre Stevenson, as you mentioned, a couple of fumbles.
06:47He'll probably still get some piece of the pie, but not much.
06:50So I think my focus here should be Lamb because I still do believe in Dallas's offense.
06:56Who's the beneficiary of this?
06:57Is it Turpin?
06:58Is it someone else?
07:00Well, Jalen Tolbert, I think, is the guy that's going to work a little bit more.
07:02George Pickens is not the volume guy.
07:04Ferguson's probably the biggest winner.
07:06So you say maybe they can't throw the ball to him 20 times.
07:08They might try, and they might have to at this point, too.
07:12So Pickens has never been the big volume guy.
07:14Between Pickens and Ferguson, they'll handle most of it.
07:16I don't think Turpin's a guy you can really go after.
07:18But Tolbert might be a guy in the next couple weeks that might, in PPR leagues, at least be able to get you 10 points, potentially, though.
07:26Can he get you a four-catch day for 60 yards?
07:30It's possible.
07:30But, again, really tough here.
07:32We lost CeeDee Lamb, maybe Terry McLaurin, Mike Evans doing with a hamstring.
07:36It was a really rough week for injuries.
07:38And just so you know, that Russell Wilson loser graphic, that was made before the Jackson Dart News.
07:43So we're ahead of the curve here, Craig.
07:45Yeah, yeah.
07:46I mean, of course.
07:46I mean, it's not a surprise there.
07:48All right.
07:48So here was a surprise for me for Washington.
07:51What was going on with the running back usage in the first half where Rodriguez and McNichols were playing and Bill was not?
07:58I know Ollie Gordon's 30% owned, and at this point, it's fair to say he's going to get a lot of goal line carries.
08:03I don't think there's another player on that list that's a waiver-wire target to start for you now.
08:08But if you don't get ahead of it, you're not going to have the guy when you need to play him.
08:12So all of these players should be picked up and at least stashed for the time being.
08:15But what happened in Washington there?
08:17I was following the game, and I just didn't understand what the usage was.
08:21Is this just how they're going to do things going forward?
08:24Well, look, a lot of people thought, well, McNichols, maybe he'll be the Eckler in this offense.
08:28But he was exactly the Eckler in this offense.
08:30So that was surprising.
08:31And as you're saying, trying to get ahead of these guys is what's most important.
08:34On this running back group, I didn't want to get ahead on Ollie Gordon.
08:36If something happens to A-chan, he's clearly the last man standing.
08:39He finally got some run last week.
08:40He got a touchdown.
08:42Ollie Gordon had a terrific college career, a down last season.
08:45But again, looked great in the preseason.
08:47Chris Rodriguez, another guy, I think, along with McNichols, you can look to add in deeper
08:51leagues.
08:52Coram, Mononga, even Woody Marks.
08:54I think eventually, now that the Texans are 0-3, they start evaluating things, Craig.
08:58And I think that's a big part of this scenario, too, is starting to say, the teams that are
09:02of a sudden aren't necessarily contending, they're going to start looking ahead to what they have
09:05on this roster.
09:06Nick Chubb is not the long-term answer.
09:08Is it Woody Marks?
09:09We're going to find out.
09:10But I think Woody Marks, Mononga, these are the stashes you can go with cheap now before
09:14they cost you, should something happen to a Swift or Chubb ahead of you.
