00:33mold same 2012 been some interest in this arguably the best value-for-money car

01:57Never a Sunday, is it? No power all day yesterday.
02:00Oh, did we? Oh, that's a shame. It was Sunday, we weren't there.
02:03You know, it's always, isn't it? It's always when you really, really need it.
02:08Right down to our phones, they're connected to the Internet.
02:10Are they? Yeah.
02:11Your phones... Right. Are the phones not working?
02:13No, cos there's no Internet.
02:16And if there's no Internet...
02:18There's no auction. There's no auction.
02:20There you go. You'll melt.
02:22The lights are back, are we? Back in business.
02:27Paul's got a big trip north for a vehicle that hasn't seen daylight in many, many years.
02:38His daughter, Kate, is down to help.
02:42Hello? Hi, baby Kate. You all right?
02:44Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Listen, we were just talking about Monday. Are you excited?
02:49What's Monday? I knew you'd say that. You've forgotten, haven't you?
02:53I'm not forgetting about it. What is it about it?
02:56All right. Well, anyway, you have a good day, and then we'll pick all this up on Monday.
03:03I don't know what to expect.
03:05It could be good. It could be bad.
03:06It might be ugly, more than likely.
03:08But I believe it's a series one Land Rover in a farm building.
03:12So instantly you think, oh, really?
03:16I'm being sent, aren't I?
03:19For a bag of spanners.
03:21But I'm looking forward to going out with baby Kate for a change, because she doesn't come very much.
03:25It's always at school, of course.
03:27And hopefully we'll, well, hopefully it won't be raining, and we'll have a decent day, won't we?
03:33I met Ewan when I was 21, and he had Land Rovers then, and this old Land Rover here.
03:49It's 20 years since Hazel Matthias' husband passed on, and his beloved series one has been hidden away all that time.
03:58Now it's 75 years old, it's 1949, obviously he hasn't got all the creature comforts of today.
04:11It was his pride and joy, really.
04:13It was like a little baby for him that, er, that, you know, he treasured.
04:18The series one was Rover's answer to the American Jeep, rugged, simply made, and built to go anywhere, the clues in the name.
04:32The first rolled off the production line in 1948, and straight onto farms, country estates, and Prime Minister's weekend retreats.
04:41The age of the true off-roader had arrived.
04:45Post-war shortages meant you could have any colour you wanted, as long as it was aircraft cockpit green.
04:52And with steel hard to come by, you had to make do with aluminium bodies.
04:57Which actually made them more durable and long-lasting.
05:01Many of these originals are still on the road, and off it, more than 75 years after first blazing a trail.
05:15It is still drivable, wouldn't pass an MOT, obviously, at the moment.
05:21We've had a lot of fun in it when the children were born.
05:24My daughter was just remarking last night, she said,
05:27I can't believe, Mum, that we sat on those seats.
05:30They're so hard.
05:36The children are both grown up.
05:38You know, we've chatted and decided that actually, I think their dad would be really pleased
05:44if the money that we get for this can be used by the children to better their futures, really.
05:51And it's time, really, for it to hopefully go to somebody who will love it,
05:57and that they can get pleasure from it as well.
06:01I think that's what we'd really like to see.
06:14Back at base, prep for the next auction is in full swing.
06:21Among the lots is Derek's own Bentley S3 Continental.
06:26It's been up for auction before, but never made its reserve.
06:31A nice one now, I mean, a really nice one,
06:38we'll do 130, 140,000 quid. They're quite a lot of money.
06:42And we keep getting up to towards, like, 60, I think, 55, 60.
06:47And it's just not enough.
06:50But she's nice. I mean, she's, you know, the inside could do with colouring up, really,
06:54to make a job of it.
06:55But all the wood's lovely, the dashboard's lovely.
06:57Door shuts are all good, look. Skins are all perfect.
07:01It's a nice car. It really is a nice car.
07:03You know, you can't really knock the car. It's lovely.
07:07The fact of the matter is, the right man doesn't come across it.
07:09That's all it boils down to, you know.
07:11When the right man does, it'll sell just like that.
07:13He wants a genuine example, but not a 130, 140, 150,000 pound example.
07:18He wants something a bit more affordable, you know, 80, 90, 95, something like that.
07:23That's the car for him.
07:25We haven't found him yet.
07:33Going head-to-head with Derek's Continental is this top-of-the-shop Bentley Mulsanne Turbo.
07:39I think we have got arguably the best value-for-money car that I've seen forever.
07:51When you think that this thing is, well, they're anything from sort of quarter of a million pounds upwards, these things.
07:58And here we are with a guide of around, I think 35 or 40,000 pound.
08:05It's just for nothing, isn't it?
08:08So what is it you like about it?
08:14I think just the quality of the car, but first and foremost, the value for money.
08:20You can put 40,000 pound into an MRST van, can't you?
08:24You know, and you think, and then you've got less than that in one of these.
08:2925,000 pound nowadays for a prestigious car isn't a lot of money, is it?
08:35Every modern car now is over 25,000 pound, isn't it really?
08:38What can you buy new that's less than 25,000 pound?
08:40Really? You know, a family car, you know.
08:42And then on the other end of the scale, you can get a very, very usable modern car now for 2,000 or 3,000 quid.
08:48So you think, hang on a minute.
08:50I can get a very usable, very smart, very presentable modern car for 2,000 or 3,000 quid
08:56that does all the work and all the jobs that that 30-odd thousand quid, with the money left over,
09:02buy yourself a Sunday treat.
09:051- milligram,ıs Pelulean 5,000 quid is 3,000 quid.
09:10Let's do something.
09:13Phase is at a premium at the Pickering HQ.
09:17It's always a squeeze fitting your rivals in.
09:19But Jack's having a crisis of conscience,
09:23Space is at a premium at the Pickering HQ, it's always a squeeze fitting your rivals
09:31in.
09:32But Jack's having a crisis of conscience about picking up his next lot at all.
09:41Every time I go on a collection there's almost a little bit of guilt there every time.
09:45It is quite humbling to be fair when people just sort of let their pride and joy go with
09:50a sort of a complete stranger down the road.
09:53Yeah you can get too deep into it can't you really, I might not go pick it up now.
09:56No I'll leave it to you.
10:00So yeah I'm going all the way to sunny Scarbados to pick up a collection of three motorbikes.
10:06I think there was a real early little Corgi, I don't even know how to describe a Corgi,
10:13it's almost like a scooter with an engine in a seat, it's like a little, it's a funny
10:17quirky little thing.
10:19I think we've got a Francis Barnet, a more modern Yamaha and this little Corgi.
10:24I've always had motorbikes, I'm 88 and I've had motorbikes all my life.
10:36Alan Greenhop has put in more than 70 years on two wheels.
10:41Now he's saying goodbye to the last of his bikes.
10:46The red one is really nice, it's just a bit heavy but it's a lovely bike, it's a Yamaha diversion
10:57and everything is brilliant on it.
11:01All the chrome is good, it's just like new, it's only done 19,000 something miles.
11:07It's nice to ride, comfortable, it's just a nice bike, I wish I was still wanting to ride
11:14it.
11:15Well, the Corgi was made during the war for paratroopers.
11:20The handlebars folded down so it folded into a really compact unit and it was dropped by parachute
11:28as well.
11:29So that as soon as the airmen were dropped, they didn't have to hang about, they could
11:34just pick it up and lift the handlebars into place and off they would go.
11:39Well, the Francis Barnet was one of the many motorcycles that had a Villiers engine in.
11:46This one's a 150cc, it's air cooled and very economical.
11:52The person who I bought it from at an auto jumble, he said that he'd bought it from someone
11:59who dug it out of a bog and that it was all covered in mud.
12:05Are you going to miss the bike?
12:09Well yes, I wish I was still 20 years younger.
12:12I shan't be getting another one I don't think.
12:15Although, I don't know.
12:17Time to play Name That Car, including another uniquely crazy Brit idea.
12:34that was lobbed out of the Hercules.
12:39They were built around the early 60s to throw out of aeroplanes, that was the whole idea.
12:45And if there was a war, I suppose they would have utilised them, I've really no idea.
12:50What is a delivery man? Quite a rare thing. A wheel on each corner and not much in between.
12:56BMC built the mini-moke for the military, but the dedicated followers of fashion thought it was groovy, baby.
13:06It belongs to my brother. He got himself a mini-moke because he always wanted one.
13:11It's going today because he's got cancer, so this is going and all the proceeds going to prostrate cancer.
13:17It'll be good fun for somebody else for a lot of years, I'm sure.
13:21Yeah. Are you joking, are you going to buy something like that?
13:24I don't know who's going to buy something like that. I'm a bit mad.
13:28Do you hear it Matthewsons? Do you know what lot number it was?
13:43It's auction day. Thank you very much for joining us. Something for everyone, no doubt about that.
13:50Truly, some really great lots again. And whilst Derek's on the stand...
13:55Yeah, that's his personal draw. Look, Derek's a draw.
13:58..the hunt is on for his secret chocolate stash.
14:02It's only his paperwork. What did you think it was?
14:06It won't be his chocolate bars, would it? He wouldn't keep that in there, do you?
14:10Yeah.
14:14Making its third appearance on the auction room floor is Derek's pride and joy.
14:19X08, 65, Bentley, S3, Continental, lovely, lovely car.
14:23Very, very rare bit of kit. Super thing, much admired wherever it goes.
14:28Got some standing bids for me.
14:30And I've got 55, 65, 70, 70,000, 70.
14:3470,000 pounds. Need more? 70,000 pounds.
14:37You'll see plenty of them advertised at well over 100, 140,000, 70,000.
14:42It's all done then. Last time, 70,000.
14:46As the man says, a car is only worth what someone else will pay.
14:51And next under the hammer, a Bentley that cost more than 200,000 pounds when it was new.
14:58Bentley Mulsane V8 Auto, lot number 760, 2012.
15:05Been some interest in this.
15:08Here we go then. I've got all sorts of VL on the start low.
15:1125, 26, 27, 28, 28, 28, 29.
15:16What a rarity to come in and sell like this.
15:1929,000 pounds, 30, 31.
15:21I've got 31.
15:22Where are you all the way? 31.
15:2332.
15:2432,000 pounds only.
15:2632,000.
15:27All done then.
15:2832,000.
15:29Full stop.
15:3032.
15:35No sale on the day.
15:36But a below estimate offer was accepted later in the week.
15:45I still want pet pigs in here.
15:47Oh dear.
15:48Are you still on for pet pigs?
15:50Oh, pet pigs?
15:51Yeah.
15:52Why do we need pet pigs?
15:53Because I like pigs.
15:55Paul and Kate are headed up country to collect the Series 1 Land Rover.
16:06Hazel!
16:07Hello, Paul.
16:08How are you?
16:09You've made it.
16:10You haven't been hanging around for too long, have you?
16:13Come say hello, come say hello.
16:15Hello, Kate.
16:16This is Kate.
16:17Kate's come for a ride out.
16:18Hello, Kate, yeah.
16:19This is Hazel.
16:20School holidays.
16:21I know.
16:22And we haven't been out much, have we, really?
16:23Look at you.
16:24But anyway, I did see a photograph.
16:26Yes.
16:27And I thought it was there.
16:28Yes.
16:29Anyway, let's have a little look.
16:30Let's go and have a look.
16:31Needless to say, it hasn't been run for a long time.
16:36It hasn't.
16:37You know, I lost my husband 20 years ago.
16:39Right.
16:40And it hasn't been run.
16:41It was moved up here at that time.
16:43Yes.
16:44And it's not been run since.
16:46Let's be honest, if it hasn't been tucked in all that length of time,
16:50chances are you're not going to now, are you?
16:53Do we think that mileage is right?
16:55This is what I don't know.
16:57There's no wear on the pedals or anything, is there, you know?
16:59No, it's very tidy, really, isn't it?
17:02Yeah.
17:03Daft things, you know, steering wheel, gear stick.
17:05Yeah.
17:06I don't suppose you're ever going to be able to prove it either way, really.
17:08No, I know.
17:09I know.
17:10But, you know, they are doing daft money, aren't they?
17:12It'll probably romp on a bit, won't it?
17:14Yeah.
17:15I know you're going to have to go a long way to find one as unmolested.
17:19But, yeah, no, that's fine.
17:20Right, well, I'll get reversed up here a little bit closer.
17:23Yes, OK.
17:24And we'll see about extraction.
17:27It's been that long since I've been out in my little lorry.
17:30Everything's moved.
17:32How have you been getting on with your dad?
17:34It's been all right.
17:35We got lunch, which was an important bit.
17:37And, yeah, it's been all right.
17:40It's me.
17:41Now a little assistant, Dom.
17:43It's good at pushing.
17:44Look at that.
17:45That's all right, isn't it?
17:46Wow.
17:47It's good at pushing.
17:51Look at that, that's all right.
17:53Wow.
17:57It doesn't look so bad for 75, does it?
18:00You never know, we might be able to find an ice cream parlour on the way home.
18:03Only for Kate, of course.
18:07We're there.
18:08Yeah, that's amazing, Paul, thank you.
18:10No problem.
18:13We talked about a reserve, probably maybe a 15.
18:16Yes.
18:1815 to 20.
18:19Well, on them bases, on them figures, then surely you want to be somewhere in between.
18:23Yes, yeah, I do.
18:24So should I just put 17 and a half or something?
18:26That'll do, won't it?
18:27Yeah.
18:27We won't clean it.
18:28No, no, just leave it as it is.
18:30Leave the dust on.
18:31Most of the dust will indeed stay on.
18:32You'd be surprised how much it does stay on.
18:34For 20 years of it, yes.
18:35Yes, exactly.
18:37Super, that's grand.
18:38Right, well, we'll make tracks, let you get on.
18:39Thank you very much.
18:40Thank you very much.
18:41Lovely to meet you, Kate.
18:43Yeah, yeah, better not forget to take Kate.
18:45Right.
18:46She's got directions for the ice cream shop.
18:50She'll forget.
18:53On that note, we're off.
18:54Cracking on with day two of the auction.
18:59The car detailing team are doing the shammy-shimmy.
19:27This room, Sel, needs a new wake-up wave.
19:33Evening, all.
19:37And the crack car memorabilia unit is on manoeuvres.
19:41Memorabilia is great, yeah.
19:54You know, we used to take in all sorts, didn't we?
19:57I mean, there'd be a bucket of spanners.
19:59But now we have got some very tasty bits, as you can see, on the rostrum there.
20:02No, we all love a bit of memorabilia.
20:04I think it's great.
20:04I'll buy a few bits every now and then, and it just fills the walls up on the garage.
20:10It looks nice, and it doesn't really break the bank too much, as long as you're careful.
20:14A pair of period-style castor lamps.
20:17They'll look fantastic when you get a bulb in them.
20:20Earth 210 I'm going to sell.
20:22They are sold.
20:24Memorabilia-wise, and signs, especially signs, tend to hold the value.
20:29So you can't really go far wrong.
20:33Number 249, which is a Hercules motorcycle sign.
20:36Oh, that's a nice long sign.
20:38Look at that.
20:38You're done then, 240.
20:40240, sold.
20:41When Derek first started off, you know, in the backstreet of these garages,
20:46here's Derek out in his old wagon, picking all the stuff up.
20:50Garage workshop on display there.
20:52There we go, they're done, 180.
20:53Cameras coming down, fair warning up, 180.
20:57Sold.
21:02417 is the Fun City illuminated sign.
21:05Here we are, the Fun City, it's there.
21:07All it up, there you are.
21:09Fun City is obviously describing us here.
21:11There we are.
21:12Where are we going to be then?
21:13You tell me.
21:14400, thank you.
21:15400, 425.
21:17Up 425, 450.
21:19475.
21:20Up 475.
21:22For 500 pounds, says Dave.
21:24Up 500 pounds then for the first.
21:26Second, third and last time.
21:28Provisional at 500 pounds.
21:31500 pounds.
21:32That's Dave there.
21:33Which city is he from?
21:39Which city are you from, he said.
21:43Bradford.
21:55They've done well to reverse in there, haven't they?
21:57It's a bit tight.
22:01Jack's arrived in the elegant environs and perpetual sunshine of Scarborough to pick up Alan Greenhoff's trio of bikes.
22:10Afternoon, Alan.
22:11How, Jack?
22:12It's a bit miserable, isn't it?
22:14Eh?
22:14It's a bit miserable.
22:15It is.
22:16Oh, are you all right?
22:18One, two, bad this morning and then typically as soon as you want to do something it starts chucking it down.
22:22What's the story behind this one?
22:26Well, it's a bike that I took a liking to and I got in touch with the man who was selling them and he specialised in these.
22:36They're a lovely well-balanced bike though, aren't they?
22:38They're heavy though.
22:39They're a bit heavy but I think that I've only ridden one in the past but they are very well balanced.
22:43And then obviously the Francis Barney then?
22:46Yes, that was found in a bog.
22:49Was it?
22:50Yeah, it'll make a bike though, someone will clean that up won't they and have a bit of a fettle with it.
22:56And then my little favourite, the little corgi, I think that's cracking that.
22:59You don't see many of them at all, do you?
23:01No.
23:02When I bought it, it was with the intentions of my son who was just three years old.
23:07Right.
23:08And I put a sidecar out of it.
23:10Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:10Just a platform, you know.
23:12Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:12He used to have one of his mates and they used to push it up to drive and then they'd both get on it.
23:19Oh, really?
23:19Go down and drive on it, yeah.
23:21Oh, that's great.
23:23Little Yamaha Diversion.
23:26Yeah, nice bikes.
23:27I don't mind them actually.
23:28Nice and reliable.
23:29Let's do a couple of shunts.
23:32It isn't easy, is it?
23:34Especially if it comes up back of here.
23:36What's that back wheel like?
23:37There you go.
23:38Are you all right now?
23:39I'm all right.
23:41Lovely jubbly.
23:42A cracker.
23:47A little cracker she is.
23:51It's a long time since there's been an empty carriage, you know, with no bikes in it.
23:56Good.
23:58Right, good to see you.
23:59Yeah, thanks very much anyway.
23:59No bother at all.
24:00When you're passing, call in and have a cup of tea.
24:02Good lad.
24:03Yeah.
24:03Right, y'all.
24:03See you soon.
24:05Bye.
24:05Laiters.
24:07When summer's here, motorbikes are coming past here all the time and I look at them, you know,
24:13and I'm going to be thinking, I think I'll maybe get another one.
24:32It's getting busy in the big shed in Pickering, where the browsers have come from far and wide
24:38to be here.
24:38The best one, it is the Mark VI Bentley, who looks like a dream, automatic, black and silver.
24:52In France, what they've got, Renault, Citroën, Peugeot, rubbish.
24:58My Audi is a 71 Audi Coupe S, four-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive, and I drive it all over Europe.
25:07It's a beautiful shape, and it's nice to drive.
25:12It's real fun.
25:14You've travelled quite a long way today, haven't you?
25:15Yeah, it's all the way from Singapore, and then from Scotland, and then down here.
25:20And I think there's a couple of cars that we thought we'd look at, rather than from a boyfriend, yeah.
25:24So it's always nice to be in this village anyway, yeah.
25:27What cars are you looking at, do you know?
25:29Yeah, no, I'm not going to tell you, though.
25:33In England, Aston Martin, Ben Clay, Halls, different world, you know?
25:41So the English are better than the French?
25:42Oh, different class.
25:44The only thing, the difference is, the English can play rugby, and the French can.
25:49Here we have a corgi.
26:03It's actually, its proper name is a Brockhouse corgi.
26:06And everyone knows them as paratroopers' bikes.
26:10I could just see it, like a fairly handy, you know, 22- or 24-year-old paratrooper,
26:15trying to get it going and thinking, sod that, big up and chuck it in the edge.
26:19I could just see it.
26:21We had loads of them in London as a kid.
26:24I remember I had one.
26:25Never run very well.
26:27I think we pushed them further than we ever run them.
26:29They were everywhere.
26:30They were on every tip, you know, every bomb site.
26:32There was one of these abandoned.
26:34And they were just worthless.
26:35They were 30 bob, you know, £1.50.
26:38And then they went through a period, probably ten years ago, I remember,
26:42when they were sort of being brought into the auction then.
26:45And everyone was going barmy on them.
26:47You know, they weren't making anything up to two grand.
26:49They've come down since, I gather, although I haven't sold many.
26:53But I don't know what the reserve are on this, but I mean, it's, I don't know,
26:56between five and six to seven hundred quid, I'd have thought.
26:58Something on that line, I'm not too sure.
27:00But I've definitely sold them for two grand, definitely before now.
27:08So at number 72 is the 1949 Corgi.
27:13There we are, little parachute bike there.
27:15There we are.
27:16Who wants to start me at £500?
27:18Must be someone at £500 for a bike that's worth £1,000, surely.
27:22£500, ask you.
27:23That's cheap enough.
27:24At £500, we've got.
27:26Up, £500 for the first, second, third and last time.
27:29Provisional at £500.
27:30The buyer upped the offer a bit, and the Corgi was landed for £600.
27:39At £650 then, we all know it's worth £1,000.
27:42Have a word with the office if you can.
27:44Thank you very much.
27:45And the Francis Barnard sold for a lot less than it would have a few years ago.
27:51At £600, it's worth more.
27:53You'll have to have a word with the guys and girls in the office, please.
27:55And the Yamaha Diversion was also a bargain.
28:07Among the next lots, the 1968 Mini Moak.
28:11All original, apart from the uprated engine, the rebuilt gearbox and the bucket seats.
28:17Still a bundle of fun for someone.
28:21They're a quirky little thing, aren't they?
28:23That you either, you get and you think they're great and they're brilliant and you want one and all the rest of it,
28:28or you just don't get at all, do you?
28:30They're a smiley little thing, aren't they?
28:32Whether you like them or don't, it doesn't really matter.
28:35They're still a smiley little thing, aren't they?
28:37You see it buzzing around, and let's be fair, most of the time you drive it like that, don't you?
28:42No roof, no doors, no nothing.
28:44And it's a safe motorbike, really, isn't it?
28:47It's tidy, you can park it anywhere, you haven't got to worry about it, it'll be a battery cut-off switch there, that's a good idea, isn't it?
28:54So, and a real sweet little motor, so get out and have a bit of fun with it.
29:04Loads of fun.
29:05On a day like today, you look, the sun's shining out there, it's lovely, isn't it?
29:08It's warm, we're all in our t-shirts.
29:10Brilliant, absolutely brilliant, you know.
29:12But that's it for me.
29:18Lovely little car, someone's going to have a load of fun out of that, good luck to them.
29:24At £310, then we're going to sell it, £310.
29:31That's yours.
29:32Was.
29:35We've got with us today, we've got Grant, Nick and Julie, who were successful with us at a charity auction that my father,
29:41held a few weeks back, and the three of them are here today, roped in to do some telephone bids today.
29:49So there you are, so just be a little bit gentle with them.
29:54The Mini Moak, which has caused no end of interest, the family have decided to donate all the proceeds to cancer research,
30:03which I think, which is fantastic, isn't it?
30:05So we have got, on my sheet, £63, £64, £65, £67,
30:11absentee bid, on my sheet, £71.
30:14£71 is yours, Chef.
30:15£71, £77, new bidder, £78, £79, £8,000, £81, £82, £83, £83.
30:25Hammer's going to come down, everyone's done and dusted £84.
30:28Florida there for a moment, £8,006, £8,008, Argyle and Butte, a little bit closer, £8,008.
30:37I bet the weather's better there in Florida than it is here, £9,004, £9,005.
30:41We've got Argyle and Butte and we've got Florida, you couldn't really get further apart in many respects, could you?
30:46There we are, £10,000, £10,01, £10,02, £10,02, £10,05, £10,06, £10,07, £10,09, £11,
30:57The family will be doing cartwheels, they really will!
31:00£11,08, £12,000.
31:03Looks like it's off to Florida at £12,200, I might go with it!
31:08£12,200, and have we all done at £12,200?
31:10done at 12 to 12,200 pound will's gonna carry me bags and we're both gonna come
31:17over to Florida yes the man has bid 12,200 pound and then he's got to pay to
31:23get it to Florida I might deliver it though I think I put my hand up to do
31:26that one I think I come with you you need someone to carry the paperwork
31:31that's a really good result that's good even got a round of applause in the
31:35talks for me
31:54didn't have to put a jump back on I threatened it with a jump back
32:01this is number two we need a bigger lock up
32:04who doesn't like an old Land Rover well me dad that's the first person that
32:17springs to mind they only started making them at the end of 48 so this one is
32:21tugging at Dave's beating heart there's just something about just an old Land
32:27Rover isn't there it just is you know especially an old barn find Land Rover from
32:34a bygone age that we all look back with with love don't we really you know I'd
32:39love an old Land Rover like this I mean I've got plenty of new ones haven't I but
32:43yeah I genuinely would just to chuck the dogs in and go up the forest of a morning
32:48you know oh do you know what I wouldn't actually restore it up or anything you
32:52you know it just wants leaving exactly as it is yeah I love old things that I
32:57never that haven't been messed about with
32:58now I could see myself in that I'd be tempted you know seriously yeah seriously
33:04yeah I don't want a restored one now restored ones don't interest me at all
33:08not in the slightest not in the slightest nope you want one just like this it's
33:15coming it's working closed don't you I'll tell you what you could get a surprise
33:18you really could if it's around 15 grand mark I think it might be coming back to
33:23my house we'll have a go see what it does I bet I can't get near it I bet it
33:31does 20 grand plus but yeah I'll be into 15 16 and see how it goes from there
33:36that'll be good in nice one let's hope so
33:38lot number 802 is the Land Rover very genuine lovely little series one kept in a dry barn for
33:5320 years there we are 12,000 then and we got 12,000 pound anywhere at 12,000 asking 12,000 pound
33:59we've got a 12,000 pound 12,000 pound 12,250 twelve five twelve five seven fifty twelve seven
34:07fifty but twelve seven fifty at twelve thirteen thousand thirteen two fifty thirteen five thirteen
34:15seven fifty and fourteen fourteen thousand pounder we all done at fourteen very provisional then the
34:23The most genuine series one you're ever going to find at £14,000 then for the first, second, third and last time at £14,000, very provisional, at £14,000.
34:36Dave's own plans for the Land Rover ran into some serious domestic opposition, so the auction winner had their £14,000 bid accepted.
34:44It seems these early Land Rovers, they're just not in fashion at the minute. They've done real well, the market's been flooded with them, and now there's more motors than there are buyers. That's it in a nutshell, that's the top and bottom of it.
35:05I think we got it, mate. I don't know if we do.
35:07You just don't see them, A, in this condition, or just in general, you don't see a lot of them. Everybody in the UK loves a Land Rover.
35:17Scott Armour and his brothers Mitch and Elliot were looking for something to give their business a lift when they chanced upon the 1949 Series 1 Land Rover.
35:27You scour the internet for these things and you look at them and, yeah, you see it and you think, oh, maybe I could put a coffee machine in that.
35:37Besides cars, coffee is the brothers' passion, which they've turned into a family business.
35:43We were going to car shows as a family and realising that people were being served not very nice coffee and being charged a lot of money, so we thought we could do something about that.
35:54It's going to be a big job. I'm just looking at all the rust underneath as well.
35:58To be fair, the engine takes over. It moves. I haven't managed to change gear. I imagine the brakes are seeds.
36:08Yeah, the brakes aren't great. We know that.
36:10Yeah, so at first glance, it's not horrendous.
36:15We'll keep the barn dust on it forever.
36:17Yeah, I think that's a good idea. Vintage look.
36:19Oh, there we go. Oh, look at that.
36:25To be fair, that's a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
36:28There's plenty of room in it with three seats in the front as well, three-speed gearbox, coffee machine in the back.
36:34Get a little air fryer in there too for breakfast on the go.
36:36Right. Seeing as I've got the shortest inside length out of the group, I will jump in.
36:51There we go, boys.
36:53It's snug.
36:54It's very snug.
36:55Where are the indicators?
36:57I think you have to put your arm out the window.
36:59Oh, okay.
37:02So, there's one.
37:03And this is one star versus the other one.
37:06I can see minimal daylight coming through, which makes me happy.
37:11A few cobwebs.
37:12A few cobwebs.
37:13A few creepy crawlies.
37:14What we've just done is we've looked at a Land Rover gone, that's really nice, and thought, yeah, let's do this.
37:21Which we assumed would be enough.
37:24Maybe we should look at this a bit more.
37:27Yeah, I think it's going to be a few late nights.
37:30Guys, how many times have we seen this car?
37:33Properly inside, this is the first time.
37:37Yeah.
37:37This is the first time.
37:38This will be our first major project in restoring a car.
37:45We have to be careful because that involves cutting out certain bits, bolting on certain bits, putting gas in it, and things like that.
37:54So, we may or may not do that.
37:56It is there in the back of our mind.
37:57It just has to appeal to everybody who's involved with this vehicle.
38:00It's a very expensive and valuable and rare table to be used just for putting a coffee machine in.
38:05We all love it, so it's, and it looks really good in here, now that we've got it in.
38:14So, yeah, I don't think it'll move.
38:15To be fair, it just looks great there as an ornament, to be honest.
38:17Maybe we'll just leave it like that, I don't know.
38:19But, yeah, it's, yeah, yeah, we do love it.
38:25Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
38:29I think it's going to be a tight squeeze.
38:31I think this is a bad idea.
38:32I think this is working wonderfully.
38:35Oh, there you go.
38:36Look at that.
38:37Like a glove.
38:46You're watching a master at work.
38:53This is how we normally operate.
38:54We just watch Mitch.
38:55Yeah, we just watch Mitch.
38:55We watch Mitch do a lot of work whilst we stand around.
38:58Don't go into business with your family, it's what they say, eh?
39:01I'm not happy unless I get a seahorse on my coffee.
39:07Cheers, boys.
39:10I think it tastes even better out of a Land Rover.
39:16Here we are, the Fun City, it's there, all it up.
39:19The Fun City sign winged its way over the M62 to Bradford, where winning bidder Mark Bolton has installed it in his bedroom.
39:29Where else?
39:29The blue Mini Moak is enjoying a new life in the Florida sunshine, bought by an expat to go with his bright yellow one.
39:38And Derek may have failed to sell his Bentley once again, but he's not giving up.
39:45It's caused very little interest yesterday.
39:47I know it's not immaculate, I know the paint's not perfect, but if it's cleaned nicely, it'll clean the sail up to it.
39:55So what I'm going to do, I'm going to mince it up, inside and out, make it look as nice as I possibly can, and it will look bonny, and then, we'll market it properly, because it deserves it.
40:04There's nothing like these Bentley's, so quiet, and just glide along the road.
40:20I've had them before, but I just thought I'd get another one just for special occasions, and that's all I use it for.
40:2792-year-old Phil Ramsey has landed the car for all those special occasions, the Bentley Mulsanne.
40:40This came up, and I decided I'd buy another one.
40:43They made an offer for it, and my offer was accepted, and I finished it with another Bentley.
40:57I just went on the description that David had done, he just said it was just fantastic condition, they don't come any better.
41:14It's the quality of the build, you don't find cars like this anymore, anywhere.
41:20The craftsmanship is unbelievable.
41:22If you look around that, there's no cheap plastic in it, it's all first-class materials that it's made from, and it's difficult to fault it.
41:38Six and three-quarter litre twin turbo, a really, really powerful motor.
41:44Is there a petrol station nearby?
41:46Well, there is, there's plenty up there if you need them as well.
41:50It's not bad, actually, on fuel.
41:54Get on a motorway, it'll do about 20, which is, for this car, this size and this weight, I think is excellent.
42:0222 gallon?
42:03Yeah.
42:04You've got to drive one of these to believe just how nice and smooth they are, you know.
42:09It responds, and you put your foot down with that, it goes.
42:11It goes like a sports car.
42:14Eager to road test Phil's new wheels is Ben, the Border Collie.
42:20Is he allowed in?
42:21No, he's not allowed in, but he will be in if he gets half a chance.
42:30Oh, dear, oh, dear.
42:33I told you, Ben.
42:37Come on, boy.
42:38That's a good dog.
42:41He's a good listener, isn't he?
42:42He is, but he doesn't always take notice, as you can see.
42:48Ben, come here.
42:52He failed as a sheepdog, I think because he didn't obey the commands.
42:57Everybody looks at it and gives it, gives it more than a second glance.
43:09I don't feel like anybody special.
43:11I just enjoy the ride, I enjoy driving it, you know.
43:14He's a beautiful sunglasses guy.
43:20It's a lovely memory.
43:23I have to have fun.
43:26He modified as a georgie.
43:29I'm sorry.
43:32I'm sorry.
43:32I'm sorry, it's fine.
43:38I am sorry, it's fine.
