00:00Former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad warned that the Malays risk being split into different camps

00:06if every leader sets up their own big umbrella political platform.

00:11While support for a united Malay front had been encouraging,

00:15Mahathir said each person aspiring to be Prime Minister was now building their own big umbrella.

00:22He said the Malays were strong enough to win elections and form a government,

00:25but only if united under a single platform.

00:30Mahathir warned that more than one big umbrella would lead to disunity and defeat.

00:35However, he stressed the aim was not to form a purely Malay government,

00:40but to build a coalition with the Chinese, Indians, and other ethnic groups.

00:45Mahathir's remarks come despite his launch of a Malay secretariat committee to restore Malay power,

00:51which he insists is not politically motivated but meant to address problems faced by the Malays.
