00:00The prosecution filed an appeal on Monday against the Court of Appeals' acquittal of
00:05MUA MP Syed Sadiq Syed Abdul Rahman in the 1.2 million ringgit graft case involving Armada
00:12funds. In the petition of appeal, the prosecution cited 28 grounds of appeal which included
00:17that the appellate court judges had erred in law and facts when it allowed Syed Sadiq's
00:23appeal. The prosecution also contented that the judges had erred when it failed to consider
00:28that Syed Sadiq's defence was an afterthought and a bare denial. On June 25, a three-judge
00:35panel chaired by Justice Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim unanimously allowed Syed Sadiq's appeal after
00:41finding that the trial judge had committed errors that warranted appellate intervention.
00:46On November 9, 2023, High Court Judge Justice Azhar Abdul Hamid had found Syed Sadiq guilty
00:53of four charges, including abetting in criminal breach of trust, misappropriation
00:58of funds, and money laundering involving 1.2 million ringgit. He was sentenced to seven
01:04years of imprisonment, a 10 million ringgit fine, and two strokes of the cane for all charges.
