00:00Hi there, blue skies for many of us during Thursday afternoon, plenty of sunny spells
00:04and fine weather, although the far north-east of Scotland is still affected by an area of
00:08low pressure which is moving away. That's going to bring showery rain for Shetland and
00:12perhaps for Orkney as well, a few showers along with a gusty and cold feeling wind.
00:17Lighter winds elsewhere, plenty of sunny spells, just one or two showers into the west, otherwise
00:21a fine afternoon for the vast majority. And with bright blue skies, feeling perfectly
00:26pleasant 7 or 8 Celsius in the south, right average for the time of year, 3 or 4 though
00:30for the north-east of Scotland and feeling cold with the wind.
00:34Northern Ireland turns cloudy by the end of the afternoon ahead of this system which is
00:38an occluded front, that's going to bring a spell of heavy rain from the west to the east
00:43overnight and as it bumps into the cold air ahead of it, there will be a spell of hill
00:48snow for northern England and Scotland because temperatures are going to fall away for parts
00:52of Scotland and the east and north of England during the evening. Frost in places as low
00:58as minus 3 or minus 4 Celsius for sheltered parts of north-east Scotland and with that
01:02cold air in place there will be some hill snow, mostly the falling snow above 200 metres,
01:07settling snow above around 500 metres or so. One or two roads could be affected first thing
01:12but it is a temporary situation during the early hours before milder air arrives by the
01:18end of the night and the rain pushes through, gusty rain, gusty winds I should say and heavy
01:24rain for a time. By the end of the night it's into the Midlands, the south and south-east
01:28of England. Showers following but also some clear spells into Northern Ireland and Wales
01:33and temperatures recovering, these are the temperatures by dawn rather than the minimum
01:38temperatures which will likely occur earlier in the night. A lot of cloud first thing for
01:43many central and eastern parts of the country, some rain to clear slowly from the south-east
01:48but the heavier stuff is really early doors and it stays gloomy in the east of England
01:54but brighter skies are moving into the west. A fine end to the day for Northern Ireland,
01:58western and northern Scotland, Wales and the south-west, temperatures of 9 or 10 Celsius
02:03and with light winds a pleasant enough afternoon, albeit with a lot of cloud there remaining
02:09for the east of England. That tends to fizzle away into Friday evening and then it's a repeat
02:14performance with clear skies initially on Friday night before the next system brings
02:19a spell of cloud and rain in by the start of the weekend. So the weather chopping and
02:25changing over the next few days but at least there will be some decent sunny spells in
02:29between any wetter systems moving through from the west. We'll keep you updated right
02:34here from the Met Office. Bye bye.
