I Spent 100 Hours in the City of the Future
Transcript
00:00This is the city of the future with robot workers smart hotels and futuristic buildings
00:05I'll be exploring Singapore for the next 100 hours starting in the airport
00:08It's generally considered the fanciest airport in the world and that's because there's an indoor waterfall movie theater
00:14shopping mall and tons of robots running the place like security robots at the entrance the security robots can do a
00:19Lot of things like go outside and enforce parking and even the airport cleaners are futuristic
00:25It's a robot mop that can also sing
00:30Here robots can bring you drinks like bottles of water and there's still more hello
00:36Even the airport Starbucks has robot workers
00:39They can serve tables and clean up dishes and if you're sleepy when you land
00:42There's even a hotel here inside the airport just under $200 a night
00:45You get a tiny futuristic room and a TV it reminds me of a capsule hotel
00:49And of course if you get bored the airport hotel has robot workers, too
00:53These guys can bring you room service of course
00:55There's way more to the city than robots, but some people have said Singapore can be boring and overrated
00:59So for the next 100 hours i'm exploring the city of the future to see what makes Singapore so advanced
01:04We'll be going all around the country to check out technology and the local culture
01:07But we'll start with their world-class shopping
01:09Singapore is known for having some of the most modern luxurious malls in the world
01:13Like this massive shopping mall that cost over a billion dollars to build and this mall below one of the world's coolest looking hotels that cost over
01:19Five billion dollars to construct inside there's an indoor river where you can ride a boat to go shopping
01:24Here there are literally vending machines that drive around the halls you can buy stuff from
01:27A vending machine that sells gold and a vending machine selling prime and mr beast feastable for an insane amount of money
01:33Chocolate bars are 15 and prime cost 30 and outside is even crazier
01:38There are some stores that have an entire island like an apple store island
01:42Why does it need an island?
01:44Next to the mall you can find these crazy tree structures
01:47I feel like i'm on another planet
01:49It's called gardens by the bay a massive green park that cost over 700 million dollars to build
01:54And you can take an elevator up there to see the best view of the city or go inside the world's largest indoor garden
01:59It's literally an entire forest under one roof. It's breathtaking
02:03There are over a hundred thousand plants in here
02:05Last time I was here there was an event for the movie avatar and they had this massive hyper realistic dragon robot
02:11I couldn't believe it was real
02:13Singapore loves to build green scrapers skyscrapers that are covered in nature and of course i'm staying in one
02:19This is my next hotel. There are even robot lawnmowers out front. This city is wild
02:24So here's my room with a perfect view of the floating gardens
02:27It's like they built a jungle on the side of the hotel
02:29And down here there's a peaceful pool area
02:31And if you look up, I mean the view doesn't even seem real
02:34The next night I stayed in another green scraper
02:36It literally looks like a space station
02:38For $200 a night you get a nice room with an insane view
02:40It's a long way down there
02:41In Singapore there's a law
02:42When you construct a new building you need to replace all the trees in nature you take away
02:46That's why you get these amazing rooftop gardens
02:48Like what is my background right now?
02:50But there's still more downstairs
02:52The gym has a view of the infinity pool
02:54I got a run in and then went for a swim
02:56It's crazy if you look up you can see your reflection while you're swimming in the pool
03:00In the morning I was able to find a robot breakfast chef
03:03You just give him your favorite ingredients
03:05Drop off your plate
03:06And watch him get to work making an omelette
03:08Gotta say he's pretty good with his spatula
03:10But isn't the cleanest cook
03:11And then you just have to wait and watch him work for a couple minutes while he does his magic
03:15I mean it looks pretty normal and as for the taste
03:18Yeah, it tastes like an omelette
03:20Sadly I can't always eat with a robot chef
03:22But thanks to Factor I can still eat extremely well every day
03:25They deliver you gourmet restaurant quality meals right to your doorstep
03:28It's all prepared by a chef
03:29And everything they send you is fresh and never frozen
03:31They're ready in just two minutes which saves me so much time
03:34Tony, Factor's for humans dude
03:37My favorite is the rosemary chicken
03:38It tastes like a five star meal but only took a couple of minutes to prepare
03:41That is so good

03:45And use code DREWDOES50 to save 50% off your first box

03:50That's code DREWDOES50 to save 50% off your first box
03:52And 20% off your first month of orders
03:54Alright Tony, back to the video
03:55Have you ever wanted to live in a theme park?
03:57Earlier today I learned that apparently the world's weirdest house is here
04:00In Singapore
04:01I mean look at this
04:02So of course I had to go for myself
04:04And it really is unlike any home I've ever seen before
04:07The man who lives here has been collecting artifacts and objects he loves for decades
04:10Welcome to my house
04:11As a collector
04:12When you see something
04:14If you don't buy it
04:15Full night you cannot sleep
04:16He's got monkeys
04:17A life-sized polar bear
04:18Simon from the chipmunks
04:19And so much more
04:21And so he doesn't mind respectful visitors
04:23Thank you
04:24No problem
04:25One, two, three
04:27I mean this is easily the coolest house I've ever seen
04:30But I got a little hungry and found a space themed sushi restaurant that uses mini robot trains
04:34This is the coolest sushi restaurant I've ever seen
04:36And every train seems to have a different personality
04:39Once you order just wait until one parks at your table and
04:42Your food has arrived
04:44Thank you
04:45It's honestly so fun to just sit and watch the robots do their job
04:48Even though there weren't human waiters here to talk to it's still a really cool concept
04:51But it's time to move on because our next hotel tackles an interesting problem
04:54What happens to buses when they're no longer good to be used as buses?
04:57Well, they come here to become hotel rooms you can stay in for over 200 bucks a night
05:01It's literally a neighborhood of buses
05:03And this will be my room for the night
05:05Let's see what you get inside
05:06Oh, this is awesome
05:08There's a lot of space
05:09Here's the living room
05:10Okay, maybe it's not that big of a living room
05:12But you still need a couch
05:13It's comfortable
05:14Of course, there's a small bathroom
05:17TV
05:18It's got YouTube
05:19No way
05:20And being a bus, of course, you can sit in the driver's seat
05:22Oh, yeah
05:23Let's move this thing
05:26What else?
05:27The back is now a bedroom
05:29You get a really cool round bed
05:30TV number two
05:32And even a bath
05:33This place is fancy
05:34But I have big plans for tomorrow we need to get ready for
05:36I beg your pardon if I talk too much
05:39No, it's bullshit
05:40Hi everyone, I'm Daryl here
05:41Hi Daryl
05:42Everyone say hi Daryl
05:43He's a local Singapore tour guide showing me some hidden gems
05:45As a kid his favorite singer was this guy, Daryl Hall
05:48So he decided to take Daryl as his English nickname
05:50I love his beautiful flowy blonde hair
05:54And he's absolutely hilarious
05:56How many followers do we have now?
05:59I can eat two bottles of this in one day
06:03Daryl wanted to show me how people in Singapore live
06:05Let's check out the world's best public housing estate
06:08Let's do it
06:10Daryl, you're very good on camera
06:12Thank you
06:13You are, you should be a YouTuber
06:14Right, thank you
06:15I should learn from you
06:17Apparently over 7,000 people live in this one building
06:20The end to this end is exactly 500 meters
06:24But then Daryl took me to see hawker centers where Singaporeans come to eat
06:27Here you can find some of the best meals in the world made every day for cheap
06:30Yes
06:31How much is one sugar cane juice?
06:32Um, really cheap, really affordable, it's just like $2.40
06:37And for $2 you get an incredible drink made fresh on the spot
06:40Hello, just one chicken rice
06:41Thank you
06:42So this is what I got for $4
06:44It's a pretty good amount of food
06:46So good
06:47This city even has laws when it comes to cleaning up after yourself
06:50If you forget to clean up after you eat, you literally could get a fine
06:53For some reason there's even a dinosaur themed hawker center
06:55It's incredible
06:56With an indoor forest and dino table
06:58Here I found a hawker chat
06:59It's the world's cheapest Michelin star meal
07:01Where everything on the menu is only a few dollars
07:04And it won tons of awards
07:05It was easily one of the best meals I ever had in my life
07:08And Daryl even taught me a few words in Singlish
07:10It's the way locals speak English
07:26Singapore does have strict rules
07:28But it allows them to be one of the safest countries in the world
07:38Really safe in the middle of the street
07:40And just 3am, 4am in the middle of the night
07:44No problem at all
07:46Obviously no country is perfect
07:47But I love Singapore's blend of their deep culture with futuristic ideas
07:50So I can't wait to go back soon
07:52Tony, tell them to subscribe please
