00:00All right, Josh Smith here. Today I want to talk a little bit about a tune called
00:08Triple J Hoedown. This is a song that originally appeared on my Inception album, but we're going
00:13to talk about the live version that's on my most recent album, Live at the Spud, recorded
00:17at the Baked Potato in Los Angeles, California. Triple J is slightly a bit of an opus. I wrote
00:25this tune when I was 17, and it has lots of twists and turns. I wanted a tune that kind
00:30of went through a lot of variations and had a lot of stuff in it, but at its heart, it's
00:34kind of a bluegrass rock fusion tune where I'm doing a lot of hybrid picking. It's in the
00:42key of G, and it starts like this. So that's a lick where the bass is pedaling G, and we're
01:04walking down from D to C to B to Bb over G, and I'm hybrid picking all that.
01:25And then we go into this phrase. So that's it. But I'm playing it hybrid picking. So that's
01:55kind of the second phrase of the song. And here's the third, which is basically the melody.
02:00So that's going from G to E minor, the one to the sixth. So...
02:20So then it goes walk-up, a chromatic walk-up, kind of a Beatles-y thing from C.
02:39So that's the main bulk of the song, the beginning, before we get into the first variation.
03:01Coming up is a big unison lick, and then we go into the next B section of the song, but
03:08that's the bulk of the intro.
