The system is moving northwest rapidly and may become a major hurricane by next week. While current models suggest it might turn out to sea, another tropical wave could head toward the Lesser Antilles. 00:00A massive system in the Atlantic is gaining strength fast,

00:03and it could become a major hurricane in days.

00:06Invest 92L is the name,

00:08and it's lighting up the central Atlantic with powerful thunderstorm activity.

00:12The National Hurricane Center now gives it a 90% chance of becoming a tropical storm,

00:17soon to be called Gabrielle.

00:19This system is racing northwest from near the equator

00:22and could climb all the way to 30 degree north in just a week.

00:25But here's the twist.

00:27Once it hits 25 again, it slows down dramatically and might take a sharp turn out to sea.

00:32So what does that mean for land?

00:34Right now, Gabrielle looks like a classic fish storm, staying far from the U.S.

00:39But we're not in the clear just yet.

00:41One wave gets absorbed into Gabrielle.

00:43Another breaks free and heads west toward the Caribbean.

00:46Meanwhile, the Pacific systems, Mario and Narda, are fizzling out over cooler waters.
