Plastic Battlegrounds REVIEW on Quest 3

Welcome to Plastic Battlegrounds
Plastic Battlegrounds is the newly commissioned sandbox toy-based battle simulator where your plastic soldiers engage in intense set piece battles of your imagination.

Set up the battlefield with an ever growing list of units, vehicles, emplacements, and environment hazards then either join the battle as a plastic soldier or be life sized and tower over the chaos. Drive toy jeeps, crush enemies driving a tank, or pilot drones armed with explosives and machine guns. Discover powerful secret weapons hidden across the levels and find hints of the overarching lore of the toy world. Blow up toy brick fortifications and tear apart your virtual living space in ways you absolutely cannot do in real life!

Sandbox Toy Battles
In Sandbox Mode, setup battles by placing units, setting up spawners, and make combat scenarios unique to each play session. It's what you could previously only imagine toy soldiers doing, but now they are truly brought into action! Make epic battles with four factions - Green, Tan, Blue, and Grey! Set up props like toy sandbags, tank traps, mines, and barbed wire to make your own battlefields.
Try Conquest mode where you are tasked with holding the majority of capture points to win victory over the enemy team.

00:00This is Plastic Battlegrounds by the developers Simulated Minds and it was
00:28released on the 14th of October 2024. The time I spent as a child placing little plastic
00:34men all around my grandparents living room floor and pretending to have full out epic
00:38battles and of course it all being using my imagination. But now thanks to Plastic Battlegrounds
00:44I can do all of that in my VR headset and I don't have to worry about getting a clip around
00:50the ear because one of my family members stood on one of my soldiers I forgot to put away
00:55about the game. So in sandbox mode you place your soldiers, tanks, helicopters and they
01:01fight. It's that simple. Call an air strikes or the B-52 bomber. Or you can go into a conquest
01:08mode and fight it out to capture flags to drain the enemy's tickets. 300 tickets each. First
01:13to get drained loses. You have a tablet that you can bring up where you can select teams
01:18and then which teams you want to build for. Units, weapons, vehicles, props and support.
01:24You can also choose to be on the ground fighting with your troops or be big up in the sky as
01:29if you are a child playing with his toys. You can also pick up the soldiers and throw them
01:34as far as the room lets you go or squash them under your hand. Levels and size. All the levels
01:40look spectacular and they are all really well designed. You can interact with most objects
01:45in them. In sandbox mode you can choose between 11 levels with some having day or night options.
01:51There is city sandbox, beachfront, basement, threshold which is like a hallway, living room,
01:58kitchen, the attic, main menu level, bedroom day or night, backyard day or night and garden
02:05trenches day or night. There are also a few completely blank locations in case you want to add
02:10your own props. Then in conquest you have three levels which are basement, bedroom and city.
02:17Enemies. There are four colours of soldier. Green, cream, blue and grey. By default you are playing
02:24green. You can either have all of them battle against each other or you can have two versus two.
02:30Green and blue versus cream and grey. Weapons. There are many types of soldiers with assault rifles,
02:36shotguns, rocket launchers and way way more. Then you also get cannons, jeeps, transport helicopters,
02:44attack helicopters, tanks, planes and bombers. In each level you can then go out and find more
02:50weapons like pistols, machine guns and then a rocket launcher that fires four rockets, a mini
02:57nuke type rocket and some sort of space gun. There were 15 new weapons added on the last update alone.
03:04I love that you can drive the tanks and I'm sure I heard they are going to make it so you can fly
03:09the helicopters also as well as other vehicles. Mechanics. Now I found trying to pick up guns
03:15when you are in giant mode to be very tricky. You have these giant hands trying to pick up this
03:20little toy and most of the time I was kind of just throwing it across the room. Also when in normal size
03:26mode gripping the guns feels quite off. Flying the drone was often pretty tricky. This is something like
03:33you stand on top of and then you have a button and you use your sticks to like left and right up and
03:39down and but at times the drone just shot off leaving me to fall. There is also some lag issues
03:45but that all depends on how many battles you've got going on in your game. At one point I had like 15
03:51tanks, four helicopters and 150 men of all four different soldiers battling it out and on my screen
03:58it got quite jerky and eventually crashed. Controls. The controls are simple enough and most of it will
04:05be done via your pad that you have. It might take you a few games to get used to but it's not
04:09complicated. Game menus. The menus look clean and have boot camp levels, sandbox levels, conquest levels
04:17and settings. Then the settings menu offers snap or smooth rotation, rotation speed, music on or off,
04:25bullet traces on or off, bodies, despawn times and toggle grip on or off. My thoughts. The idea of this
04:33game is just brilliant. It's like a fun take on Battlefield or Call of Duty but there is still a lot
04:38of work to be done here like way more optimizing so the game runs smoothly when you have a big epic battle
04:46going on. Then whilst there are nice amounts of levels in sandbox mode it really needs equally as
04:51much in the conquest mode. Then I'd like to see some options added such as being able to select
04:56different ticket amounts for longer games maybe up to a thousand tickets and then have other games
05:02like capture the flag or rescue hostages or plant a series of bombs. I also wish there was a campaign
05:09mode to this game. I think that this would be real fun and then I'd really like to see you have a base
05:14where you have some cabinets to collect medals for achievements, trophies for completing levels
05:20and collectibles such as miniature tanks, helicopters, planes, plastic men or maybe bobbleheads.
05:26For ten dollars this is a really fun game and I spent five hours in the game in my first sitting
05:33as I was just giggling away and reminiscing about being that small boy again who was playing toy soldiers
05:38on his grandparents floor. Time just whizzes you by and don't forget they are still in early access
05:45so let the guys know on discord what you enjoy or of things you would like to see. Now if you made it
05:51to the end of this video I thank you for giving me your time so now touch that like button hit subscribe
05:56if you haven't already and happy gaming. Thanks guys!
