00:01I really miss you.
00:03I think we need a break.
00:04I think I need a break.
00:05They were private.
00:06And a man is dead.
00:07You and me are done.
00:09I have some information about the Jack Ray case.
00:11You want to know if my ex-husband was a child abuser?
00:14Hello, Robert.
00:15So where were you really that night?
00:17Not coming.
00:18So when did you last see him?
00:19Two days before night.
00:20In August, Jack had a DNA test done of Josh.
00:22Who's my dad?
00:23How do you think he found out?
00:24I have no idea.
00:25I don't remember telling anyone.
00:27Someone, you.
00:30You know what?
00:32I actually wasn't nervous.
00:37Maybe I thought I had nothing more to lose.
00:41I mean, obviously I was wrong there, but yeah.
00:46Moral of the story.
00:51Trust no one.
00:55How much do any of us understand why we do the things we do?
01:04Why did we love this person, lie to that friend?
01:08Why did we betray this partner?
01:11Our interior lives are almost impossibly complex.
01:16And at best, our understanding of our actions is ephemeral, fragmentary and subjective.
01:24And if it's hard for us to understand ourselves, it's doubly hard for others to understand us.
01:30But hardest of all, to understand the thoughts of a dead man.
01:36The thoughts of Jack Wright.
01:39A husband and father has a legal obligation in his will to make due provision for both his wife and dependent children.
01:47So let's not get sidetracked by ethics and morals.
01:51The more simple truth is that Jack Wright failed to fulfill his legal duty.
01:59Graham.
02:00His first born child.
02:01A devoted son.
02:02Who sought his father's love and respect all of his life.
02:06Even in the face of repeated rejection.
02:08We can't question him.
02:11We can't challenge him.
02:12We can't tell him things we hope will change the way he feels.
02:15And again, that's hard.
02:18To never be able to understand why he made the choices he did.
02:22But that does not mean the choices he made were wrong.
02:2825 years of service John Wright gave his father.
02:33On trust.
02:34With love.
02:35And from a place of huge respect.
02:38Only to be repaid with contempt.
02:41With mockery.
02:42With financial disadvantage.
02:44And that is simply unfair.
02:47Every decision he made was the product of a careful, considered and rational process.
02:56Our opinion on that cannot change simply because we don't like what he thought.
03:01What he wrote.
03:04And in the end.
03:07Who he was.
03:12So the evidence found at McGuire's house has all been examined.
03:15We've not enough to charge him with yet.
03:17So he's R U I'd for now.
03:19But alongside the messages between him and Emily.
03:21We do have to ask why he would have tried to create a false alibi for the night of the murder.
03:26Meanwhile, this guy doesn't seem at all keen on answering our telephone calls.
03:30So we still have absolutely no idea where he was on the 12th.
03:33So.
03:35Liaise with Europol.
03:36Now I want a search done on his Paris office.
03:40Graham Wright, we still waiting on these bank statements?
03:42Yes.
03:43But I also put a flag on PNC and got a ping back immediately.
03:45For?
03:46So he was admitted to the Royal London a month ago after he was violently assaulted in his flat.
03:50Wow, okay.
03:51The uniformed officer spoke to his brother at the hospital who indicated that the assault was related to a debt now paid and that they didn't want to take things further.
03:59Okay.
04:00We'll just chase these bank statements, alright?
04:01He's clearly in all sorts of financial difficulties.
04:03And then Georgia Wright just got the speeding ticket photo back from records which reveals there was someone sitting next to her as her car drove at speed near Marston Hall about 20 minutes before we know that final call between Sally and Jack ended.
04:19That person is Mary Robbins, Jack Wright's housekeeper.
04:28I founded it four years ago.
04:30And as of today, how much is it valued at?
04:33We had an offer of investment just a few weeks ago that valued it at $4 million.
04:38And you're 24?
04:4025 in a month.
04:43I've never made a secret of it. I've suffered from addiction problems my whole life.
04:46And when did these start?
04:48I remember the actual day.
04:50How old were you?
04:5113.
04:52And this was where?
04:53It was at my dad's.
04:55It was just after my parents had separated and I was with him for the weekend.
05:00Except he was in his bedroom with his new girlfriend.
05:03And so I was having dinner with the groundsman and Ray, his son.
05:09And it was Ray who offered me a joint later that night.
05:14And you said you remember the day specifically, why?
05:17Oh, because it was Christmas Day.
05:27And I know you normally speak to my wife, but, um, yeah, we're thinking about a few life changes.
05:35So I just wanted a bit of a snapshot valuation of our portfolio, please.
05:42How long were you married, Mrs. Wright?
05:4417 years.
05:45And those were 17 happy years?
05:48Very.
05:49Very.
05:50And how did you celebrate that last anniversary?
05:54We didn't.
05:56You didn't celebrate at all?
05:57No.
05:59Why was that?
06:00Because he forgot.
06:01He forgot?
06:02And, of course, in normal circumstances, I might have mentioned it or reminded him, but we'd always play this kind of game over the years where he'd pretend to have forgotten.
06:12And then at some point during the day itself, he'd, um, surprised me with some amazing celebration.
06:21Such as?
06:22Oh, uh, for our 14th, he flew me to Mustique for a week. For our, uh, 10th, we had 100 guests at the Savoy. For our 8th, Duran Duran played in our house.
06:36But this year...
06:41This year, nothing.
06:44And as we approached midnight, I realised that it wasn't the game.
06:48This time he'd genuinely forgotten.
06:50He had no recollection of it at all.
06:54On that particular day, his mind had gone.
07:00And this from a man who we now sadly know from the autopsy had early signs of dementia.
07:06How many people do you employ, Ms. Wright?
07:09Well, we're in the process of expanding, after this next funding round.
07:12But right now? In full-time employment?
07:15Seven.
07:18Do you know how many people are currently on the J.K. Wright payroll?
07:22I don't have that figure in front of me.
07:24Oh, it's, um...
07:26It's 368.
07:28As of last Friday.
07:30Right.
07:31Are you familiar with the term, Nepo Baby?
07:33Yes.
07:36Then could you tell the court, please, what qualities you think you possess
07:39that would qualify you to run a company with a market cap more than 30 times yours?
07:42Aside from your 12 months in the post room, of course.
07:47In the post room, of course.
08:01I'm sorry, I'm confused. This says ÂŁ7,426.
08:05Yes.
08:06But between us, we should have about four million. About two in mine and the same in hers.
08:15And as I say, I can't tell you what's in your wife's. I can only give you your figure.
08:20Which is what's left after all your withdrawals.
08:23What withdrawals?
08:24The multiple withdrawals you've made over the last five years, Mr. Wright.
08:30I haven't made any withdrawals.
08:37Mr. Wright, has it ever occurred to you that your father's will was, in many ways, an act of kindness?
08:44A painful act, but of the toughest love?
08:47My father didn't know what love was. Tough or otherwise.
08:52But he knew what an addict was, didn't he?
08:56Well, it was him who made me one, so, yeah, I should hope so.
08:59You say he was an inattentive father.
09:04Can you tell me how much money he gave you in the last ten years?
09:10No idea.
09:12My lady, Exhibit 8A will show bank statements detailing transfers totalling ÂŁ326,000 in just those ten years.
09:27I'd have preferred a hug.
09:29Mr. Wright, would you tell the court what happened to the ÂŁ500 he gave you to buy your daughter a tenth birthday present?
09:41Yes.
09:44You signed a prenup, Mrs. Wright, is that correct?
09:52Yes.
09:54You are being handed now Exhibit 12A, which is a copy of that original signed agreement.
10:01If you could go to the back page, please.
10:05Do you recognise yours and your husband's signature there?
10:08There.
10:09Yes.
10:10And are you happy to confirm this is a copy of that agreement signed in 2007?
10:17Yes.
10:18Can I ask you then to turn to page five?
10:22And can I ask you please to read paragraph seven, clause B?
10:26In the event of the wife's proven infidelity, that behaviour shall be treated as conduct that it is inequitable to disregard pursuant to Section 25 2G of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 and the Inheritance Act 1975,
10:45shall have the effect of limiting to the greatest possible extent all claims for financial remedies howsoever arising under the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973.
10:56Did you break that clause, Mrs. Wright?
10:58No.
10:59I remind you, you are under oath and I am going to ask you again, did you break that clause?
11:11He broke it repeatedly.
11:13This isn't about him.
11:15This is entirely about him.
11:16Did you?
11:17He handed me that prenup on the morning of the wedding.
11:19Answer the question please.
11:20And said if I didn't sign it, he'd call it off and so I did.
11:23Because I loved him.
11:27Mrs. Wright, I suggest that you did break it.
11:30Objection, milady.
11:31Overruled.
11:32And that furthermore, on a night out in 2020, you confided in Emily Wright that you suspected your son Joshua might not be Jack's.
11:53He broke it.
11:54He broke it.
11:55He broke it.
11:56He broke it.
11:58Whatever I told you that night, I would have told you in total confidence.
12:01I took you into a family, tried to be a mother to you and you do this.
12:04You betrayed Josh and me for money.
12:05I mean, how does that even feel?
12:06How did it feel when you did it to my grandfather?
12:09The police are circling this one, so I wouldn't get too close if I were you.
12:12Might get your wings burnt.
12:14That was fucking low.
12:15Not as low as you actually spending the money on crack.
12:17Yeah, and I regret that to this day, but you think it's okay to punish me about bringing it up in the courtroom?
12:21Oh my Christ, does no one remember that I didn't fucking start this?
12:24And you're not going to finish it either.
12:26It's all right, love.
12:39Is this you in the car with Georgia Wright?
12:43Yes, it's me.
12:44So this is timed about 20 minutes before Jack's phone call to his wife and before he was subsequently shot.
12:51You are approximately eight minutes by car away from Marston Hall.
12:58We were on our way there to pick up my car.
13:01Okay.
13:02And where have you been?
13:03Out for dinner.
13:09Is it something we're missing, Mary?
13:15Um...
13:17G and I were a thing.
13:18We had been for quite a few years.
13:24How many is quite a few?
13:26Five this Christmas.
13:27Is this something her husband knew about?
13:33I don't think so.
13:34Um...
13:35I mean...
13:36Look, I'm divorced.
13:37Um...
13:38We saw each other once a month or so.
13:40It was just something that suited us both.
13:41You were describing it in the past tense, so you're no longer together?
13:44No.
13:45Why?
13:48Well, as I said, um...
13:50I thought we were going out for dinner, but, um...
13:54It turned out she wanted me to do something for her.
13:55Do what?
14:00She wanted me to go into Jack's office to see if I could find copies of a particular document.
14:06Which document?
14:09His will.
14:11Right.
14:12And did you do what she asked?
14:14God, no.
14:15Um...
14:16No.
14:17I mean, it's grossly unprofessional.
14:18I mean, it's possibly even illegal.
14:19How did she take that?
14:20Not well.
14:24Yeah, not well at all.
14:25Um...
14:27Of course, a huge row.
14:29Um...
14:30In fact, she cut the evening short and drove me back, at speed, to pick up my car.
14:37I'd never seen her like that before.
14:41She seemed desperate.
14:46When she dropped you off, did you see her drive away?
14:53My car was parked round the back of the house, and, um...
14:56By the time I got round the front again, her car had gone.
14:58But I presume there are plenty of other places for Georgia to park up on the estate.
15:02More secluded places.
15:06Yeah.
15:08Yeah, there are plenty.
15:09Every motorway camera, every CCTV, every ring camera.
15:15I want to work out exactly what time Georgia Wright drove out of here.
15:18Hello, Frances?
15:19Everything okay?
15:20Oh, Rose.
15:21I just think you should know.
15:22I've been taken to Amy.

24:35Home where?
24:38The UK.
24:41I'm home and I want the kids back.
24:56Where are you going?
24:59London.
25:00And listen, you can keep this, whatever's left of it.
25:05I never liked it anyway.
25:09I wish you happiness, George.
25:13I really do.
25:14All rise, please.
25:26This is the hand down of judgment in the case of Wright versus Wright.
25:29It is not for this court to comment on the substance of the prenuptial agreement signed by Mrs. Wright.
25:36I'm here to offer judgment only on what is before me.
25:39And I find that in respect of his wife and her son, Joshua, the bequests made by Mr. Wright
25:45are consistent with and supported by the exclusions and conditions laid out in that agreement.
25:50It's clear in emails provided by the defense that in August of this year, Mr. Wright had hair samples of Joshua subjected to a DNA test.
26:00This test, to the best of his knowledge, subsequently confirmed his suspicion that he was not Joshua's father and by implication that his wife, Sally Wright, had been unfaithful.
26:10The court requires that an independent DNA comparison be made now to corroborate those results, but makes the interim judgment to deny the claim made by the third Mrs. Wright.
26:23The lab just called. They've sent over the results of the blood tests on Reuben McGuire's clothes.
26:53The lab just called.
27:23Oh, hi, Leslie. Very quickly.
27:31So the Speckman's money obviously goes through on Friday, but can you do me a favour?
27:36The 1.75 we saved on the deal.
27:39I've just had a rather attractive offer from our bank for a six-month fix.
27:43If I give you the details, can you slide that into a new account for me, please?
27:46Yeah, sure. I'll get that done this afternoon.
27:50Super.
27:51I'll email that over to you now. Thanks so much.
27:55Okay.
27:55In the matter of John and Graham Wright's claim that their father's will did not make reasonable financial provision, I find in their favour.
28:13Judgment on how exactly the estate might be more fairly distributed will be delivered tomorrow.
28:17All right.
28:22Em.
28:29Em.
28:33Emily.
28:34I'm sorry.
28:35For what?
28:36You got what you wanted.
28:37I never wanted you to lose out.
28:40That is so grey and right.
28:43Pretending to be sorry for an outcome you set out to make happen.
28:46It was never about you, though. It was always just about him.
28:51And whatever I do end up with, you can have it, I swear.
28:54Oh, can I? Can I, Dad? Can I have it all, then? Can I have all the fucking money?
28:58It was only heaven about him.
29:02Emily Wright?
29:03Yes.
29:04I'm arresting you on suspicion of soliciting to murder.
29:06You don't have to say anything, but it may harm your defence.
29:08Whoa, whoa, what are you doing?
29:08If you mention one question, please step back, mate, something which you later rely on in court.
29:11We killed anybody.
29:12In evidence. This way, please.
29:13Whoa, whoa, whoa.
29:14Dad.
29:15Dad.
29:15That is my daughter, mate.
29:17Em.
29:18Emily.
29:18Emily.
29:21Em.
29:22I'm sorry.
29:23So these are your clothes, Ruben?
29:42No comment.
29:43Well, maybe they're someone else's.
29:44No comment.
29:45Then why did you try to destroy them?
29:47No comment.
29:48Was it because you knew they had the victim's blood all over them?
29:52No comment.
29:52Because that's what we found.
29:53Jack White's blood on the burnt remains of a t-shirt, pair of jeans, and in a bag stuffed
29:57behind your wardrobe.
29:59Can you tell us anything about this?
30:01No comment.
30:02Where were you on the night of November 12th, Ruben?
30:05No comment.
30:06All right, Ruben, look.
30:07Ruben, if you had nothing to do with this, this is your chance to clear your name right
30:11now.
30:12So, where were you?
30:16No comment.
30:17Was it her idea?
30:24Did you do it for her?
30:26For your girlfriend, Emily?
30:31No comment.
30:34So your fiancé came into the station, Emily, and showed us some very worrying messages of
30:39yours that he'd forwarded from your phone.
30:48Showing the suspect, EW01, a printout of five messages sent between April and November
30:532024 between you and Ruben Maguire.
30:55Can you read the second message, please?
31:01He deserves everything we've got planned and more.
31:04Everything we've got planned?
31:06What does that mean, Emily?
31:10No comment.
31:11What would the pair have you planned?
31:12No comment.
31:13We know that Jack started to change his will three days after he met Maguire.
31:17Is this you and Maguire discussing that plot?
31:19No comment.
31:20Okay, could you read message number three, please?
31:22Why don't you read it?
31:23How about I read it?
31:25If he gave me the whole company, it still wouldn't make up for what he did to me that
31:31night.
31:34For what he did to me that night.
31:38What did he do to you, Emily?
31:41No comment.
31:42Sounds serious.
31:43If leaving you a company worth 100 million still wouldn't make up for it.
31:46No comment.
31:48What about this last one?
31:49From Ruben to you on the 4th of November.
31:51How long do you think he'll live?
31:53Do your family have good genes?
31:55After that, he's put a wink face emoji to which you reply with a laughing face emoji.
32:00What is that about?
32:01No comment.
32:02Yeah, I'm sure.
32:05Okay.
32:06Let me tell you where we are, Emily.
32:08I think for whatever reason you had some deep-seated animus against your grandfather.
32:13You knew money meant more to him than most.
32:14I think maybe it means more to you than most.
32:18Bullshit.
32:18So you hatched a plot to have him change his will to your financial advantage.
32:22True.
32:22But you got bored waiting for him to die.
32:24No.
32:24So you had Ruben, a violent ex-offender, kill him.
32:27Absolutely not.
32:27Which is why your grandfather's blood is all over clothes we found in Ruben's house.
32:30What clothes?
32:34The burnt remains of a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
32:36Those clothes are mine.
33:00The burnt remains of a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
33:06The burnt remains of a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
33:10The burnt remains of a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
33:12The burnt remains of a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
33:14John?
33:15John?
33:28On a night in August 2014,
33:34when I was 13 and he thought I was asleep on a sofa after watching a movie.
33:44He touched me.
33:52He touched me.
33:59Here.
34:03My grandfather.
34:09I pretended to stir.
34:11He moved away.
34:13And that was it.
34:20One action.
34:24One touch.
34:26Is she stunted?
34:27She honestly lasted a few seconds.
34:34Which…
34:36changed my life.
34:38Forever.
34:43Like most kids, I tried to minimize it.
34:46He was drunk.
34:48It was only once.
34:52He was fucked up.
34:54His ex-wife had committed suicide a few months before.
35:01But still, I needed to make sure I was safe.
35:08And so from that night on, I only saw him when I needed to.
35:16The job at J.K. Wright, family things.
35:22And I always tried to not be on my own with him.
35:30But about six months ago, when I was back in the UK to see Rose,
35:38I realised it was ten years.
35:43So I decided to go and see him.
35:47I needed him to acknowledge it.
35:55What he'd done to me.
35:57What he'd taken.
35:59And so I told him that I hadn't been asleep.
36:04That I'd known, that I'd always known, that he sexually assaulted me.
36:07I just don't know what I expected him to say.
36:13But I guess I wasn't surprised by how he did react.
36:16Which was to do exactly what he always did when anyone confronted him.
36:19Attack, humiliate, deny.
36:21And I wasn't going to let him do that to me.
36:25So I turned to leave.
36:27Except he grabbed my wrist to try and stop me.
36:30So I saw my elbow back round to his face.
36:33Hard.
36:34Really fucking hard.
36:36And there was blood everywhere.
36:39I was screaming at him.
36:40He was screaming at me, trying to hold on.
36:42And then suddenly I was in the street, getting a cab to Rubens.
36:47And there I changed out my clothes and into some clean ones he lent me.
36:52I don't know why he kept them.
36:59But those clothes were mine.
37:04Ruben Maguire did not kill my grandfather.
37:08And I most definitely did not ask him to.
37:23We know that they blackmailed him.
37:26The messages pretty explicitly suggest that.
37:29They do.
37:30We know that Maguire, despite multiple opportunities to do so,
37:33has not provided us with an alibi on the night of the murder.
37:36He hasn't?
37:37And most importantly, we know we have the victim's blood all over clothes hidden at Maguire's house.
37:40Which she says are hers.
37:42Well, she would do, wouldn't she?
37:43Or she's on the hook for solicitation.
37:48Do you think she made that up about Jack?
37:52I don't know.
37:54I don't know.
37:55But 74 and not a whiff of anything like that ever before.
38:01I think the CPS will bite our hands off, boss.
38:09Let's call him.
38:22Oh!
38:23Fuck!
38:24Hey!
38:25What are you doing at my house, Arno?
38:26This is very wrong.
38:27So, you lost?
38:28Lost what?
38:29Your case.
38:30You dumb bitch.
38:31For now, maybe.
38:32Yes, but...
38:33Any of that money?
38:34I need it fast.
38:35Oh, fuck!
38:41Hey.
38:43What do you do in my house, Arno?
38:47This is very wrong.
38:49So, you lost?
38:51Lost what?
38:53Your case. You dumb bitch.
38:55For now, maybe, yes, but...
38:57I need that money.
38:59I need it fast.
39:01And I'm not sure you've been taking me seriously.
39:03Oh, no, I can't.
39:05I...
39:07I don't have access to his accounts. They're all frozen.
39:09I don't have spare millions just lying around.
39:11Except, of course, you do.
39:13Over assets, you can sell.
39:17Not worth that much.
39:19You're lying, Sal.
39:21I'm not.
39:23So, just know this.
39:25It doesn't end well for people who don't take me seriously.
39:27Three million by Friday.
39:29I'm not afraid.
39:31I'm not afraid.
39:33I'm not afraid.
39:35You're lying, Sal.
39:49Why?
39:51In assessing how the bequests of the late Jack Wright might be redistributed more equitably and in line with the judgments I've already made,
39:57I've tried to balance the needs and rights of all claimants of the estate as best as possible.
40:03Murder for Maguire. A solicitation to murder for her.
40:06No award has been made in isolation, but as part of a bigger picture.
40:11And to award them what I felt they truly deserved.
40:19In the matter of Emily Wright's appointment as Chief Executive,
40:23her receipt of her grandfather's company shares and 15 million pounds.
40:28Emily Wright is clearly a young woman of exceptional character and ability,
40:33and I thus uphold the first two of these bequests in their entirety.
40:38Miss Wright and her grandfather clearly had an unusual connection.
40:44It's perfectly legitimate that in her he saw the future of his company would be in the safest possible hands.
40:53He's right, please.
40:56Given the value of the shares, I have, however, reduced her monetary bequest to 5.4 million.
41:03I've done this largely to accommodate the needs of his two elder sons, John and Graham,
41:08who I believe are entitled to a sum of 5 million pounds each.
41:11To further facilitate this, I have also reduced the bequest to his first wife, Rose,
41:19who he had been divorced from for nearly 40 years, to 100,000 pounds.
41:27And that concludes this judgement.
41:30That's a report online. Emily's been arrested.
41:34Emily Corazon Wright, you are charged that at a time between the 18th of April and the 12th of November, 2024,
41:43you did solicit the murder of Jack Kenton Wright,
41:46contrary to Section 4 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
41:50Do you have anything to say?
41:51Do you have anything to say?
41:59I'm innocent.
42:21In the end, you'd have to say, the will echoed the life.
42:29Cruel.
42:31Narcissistic.
42:33Messy.
42:35But also, oddly opaque.
42:38Because even now, I reach for a desire to believe that maybe there was love there too.
42:47An attempt, subconscious or not, to liberate us from money.
42:55But then I remember Emily.
42:58Cut from the same cloth.
43:00I look at her, and I see him.
43:06And then I see...
43:13Well, I tell you what I don't see.
43:18Innocence.
43:20In her or that piece of shit.
43:23Pot and kettle, I hear you say.
43:27Maybe you're right.
43:32I mean, I did kill a man.
43:39So I'm not exactly innocent myself, am I?
43:41I really think I should come in with you, Rose.
43:44Oh, no, no, sorry.
43:45But I don't even know if they'll let me see her.
43:47If they do, I'd rather we were alone, if you don't mind.
43:51Call me when you're done.
43:53Will do.
43:54Afternoon.
43:55Can I help you, madam?
43:57Afternoon.
43:58Can I help you, madam?
44:00Oh, no, no, no.
44:01Sorry, but I don't even know if they'll let me see her.
44:04If they do, I'd rather we were alone, if you don't mind.
44:06Call me when you're done.
44:08Will do.
44:09Afternoon.
44:10Can I help you, madam?
44:12Yes, I think you can.
44:15I want to make a confession, please.
44:17OK, um, a confession to what exactly?
44:18Murder.
44:30It was me.
44:35I killed Jack Wright.
44:39It was me.
44:40I killed Jack Wright in the hospital.
44:43It wasn't me.
44:44I killed Jack Wright.
