00:00I'm signing a presidential memorandum to establish the Memphis Safe Task Force.
00:06And it's very important because of the crime that's going on, not only in Memphis, in many cities.
00:11We brought down crime a little bit in Chicago, but we're now going to bring it down very big.
00:16We're going to be doing Chicago probably next.
00:18Here we go.
01:19We're going to keep it that way.
01:20It's our nation's capital.
01:21We're going to keep it that way.
01:22We're going to federalize it if we had to, but we don't have to anymore because it's in such great shape.
01:34First of all, thank you.
01:35Thank you for your commitment for federal resources to the great city of Memphis.
01:42And it is a great city.
01:43And it has a great history and a great legacy.
01:47And we are very hopeful and excited about the prospect of moving that city forward.
01:54I've been in office seven years.
01:55I'm tired of crime holding the great city of Memphis back.
01:59And I have spoken today with the director of the U.S. Marshals, with the director of the FBI, with General Bondi.
02:10We realize that this effort of multi-agencies that will combine the work of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the local police departments, when we come together, we can make significant change in our city and the city of Memphis.
02:28And that is a powerfully important thing for the state of Tennessee.
02:32And I want to say thank you.
02:34This will be your proudest moment when we see you in four or five weeks, maybe sooner.
02:41You're going to see numbers that will drop and plummet like you have.
02:44It's just like we did in D.C.
02:46They plummeted.
02:46Nobody can even believe it.
02:48And they're going to plummet.
02:50It'll be one of your really proud moments.
02:51And you've done a good job here.
02:53But this will be maybe your proudest moment.
02:55And the director, as the director said, the goal is sustained.

02:59Got to keep it.
03:00Sustained crime lowering.
03:01And that, with this effort, I believe we can get there.
03:06We can finally get there for that city.
03:08Yep.
03:08We're going to have it sustained.
03:09Long time.
03:10Your people are going to get better and better.
03:12And your police force has been terrific.
03:13They're working with us very much, as you know.
03:15We started it, as I said, on a little basis.
03:18And we got it down quite a bit.
03:19But now we're going for the big march.
03:22Okay.
03:22And Director Patel and his team have done remarkable work so far.
03:26As you know, the numbers are great.
03:28And this will be one more step in the right direction for Memphis.
03:31And we brought down crime a little bit in Chicago.
03:33But we're now going to bring it down very big.
03:35We're going to be doing Chicago probably next.
03:37I was with a great businessman, a man who is involved in all cities through his business.
03:44And I say, who do you think should be next after Memphis?
03:47And he said, sir, you've got to save Chicago.
03:51We're going to wait a little while.
03:54But he said, you've got to save Chicago.
03:55You can't let it go.
03:56And this is a very prominent man that everybody knows in this room.
