00:00Prayer of Francis
00:07The famous Prayer of Francis, also known as Prayer of Peace, curiously, is not authored by Francis of Assisi as many people think.
00:21Its exact origin is unknown, but some scholars argued that the author would be a monk who would have lived in northern France in the early centuries of Christianity.
00:36What is known for certain is that the prayer was written anonymously in a religious bulletin in Paris in 1912.
00:46Four years later, it was printed in Rome in a leaflet whose verse portrayed the figure of St. Francis.
00:56As a result, the prayer was attributed to the Italian friar Francis, who lived in the city of Assisi.
01:04However, the fact that Francis' prayer is not originally of his own is irrelevant,
01:13for the beauty of its message went through time as one of the few undistorted testimonies of the true doctrine of Jesus,
01:23inspiring good people to dedicate themselves to doing only good in all situations.
01:30The first part of the prayer translates the deepest love to the neighbor
01:37Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
01:44Where there is hatred, let me bring love
01:49Where there is offense, let me bring pardon
01:55Where there is discord, let me bring union
02:00Where there is doubt, let me bring faith
02:05Where there is error, let me bring truth
02:10Where there is despair, let me bring hope
02:16Where there is sadness, let me bring joy
02:22Where there is darkness, let me bring your light
02:29The second part is one of the most beautiful affirmations of the law of cause and effect
02:38or law of reciprocal action vibrating in the balance between giving and receiving
02:47O Master, let me bring joy
02:49O Master, let me not seek as much
02:54To be consoled as to console
02:58To be understood as to understand
03:02To be loved as to love
03:06For it is in giving that one receives
03:11It is in pardoning that one is pardoned
03:13It is in dying that one is raised to eternal life
