00:00The AirPods Pro 3 were finally unveiled alongside the new iPhone 17 lineup.
00:04So the question is, should you upgrade from the AirPods Pro 1 or 2?
00:08Well, here are not 5, but 10 things you should know before buying.
00:13First we have the design of the AirPods themselves.
00:16And according to Apple, they are slightly smaller in order to improve comfort.
00:20But the case, however, actually got bigger.
00:23It is 2mm taller and also wider than the case on the AirPods Pro 2.
00:28And even though Apple hasn't mentioned it, I'm thinking they also dropped the pairing
00:32button on the back, similar to the AirPods 4 from last year, and replaced it with a capacitive
00:37button on the front of the case.
00:38But we'll know for sure once we get them in the studio, so make sure you subscribe to
00:42the channel to see that.
00:44The case also keeps the holes for attaching a lanyard and of course the MagSafe and Apple
00:48Watch charger magnets.
00:50Also the buds still use the skin detect sensor as opposed to the optical one found in the
00:54AirPods 4, which I think is great news, as this is useful when let's say you're putting
00:58your AirPods in your pocket, as they won't automatically resume music playback, as they
01:02cannot detect your skin.
01:05Number 2, the AirPods Pro 3 also come with new foam-infused ear tips.
01:08And you also get 5 sizes now in the box, ranging from extra small all the way to extra large.
01:14This is a welcome upgrade from the AirPods Pro 2's that only came with 4 sizes of ear tips,
01:19and the first gen which only came with 3 sizes.
01:22And according to Apple, because of these new ear tips, these AirPods are the most stable and
01:26the best fitting AirPods ever made.
01:29But really, the biggest upgrade is the improved ANC, however what's surprising here is that
01:34the improved ANC doesn't come from the new H3 chip, which by the way isn't here, we still
01:39have the same H2 chip as the AirPods Pro 2, however the improved ANC comes from these new foam-infused
01:45ear tips and also the brand new microphones, which results in twice as good ANC as compared
01:52to the AirPods Pro 2's, and 4 times better than when compared to the first gen AirPods
01:57Pro.
01:58Apple also claims that the new AirPods Pro 3's offer the best ANC out of any in-ear wireless
02:03earbuds on the market.
02:04And that's a big claim, because there are many in-ear earbuds on the market that offer
02:09amazing apt-tock noise cancelling, such as the Bose QC Ultra or the Sony WF-1000XM5, so
02:16I would be very impressed to see the new AirPods Pro 3's have even better ANC.
02:22The AirPods Pro 2's already had some fantastic active noise cancelling, so the new ANC being
02:27twice as good is just amazing and I can't wait to try it out.

02:57Now the fourth thing you should know is that transparency mode also gets better according
03:01to Apple, making people around you sound even more natural than before, probably thanks
03:06to these new microphones.
03:07And again, transparency mode was already the best on the market with the AirPods Pro 2's,
03:12so seeing that being improved even further is also amazing.
03:15And I'm thinking they may also have improved the delay between you talking to actually hearing
03:19your own voice, but this was already imperceptible on the previous version.
03:23So what about the sound quality?
03:25These are earbuds after all.
03:27Well, Apple has redesigned the acoustic architecture on the buds, which precisely controls the airflow
03:33that carries the sound into your ear.
03:35But according to Apple, this translates into a better bass response, a wider soundstage,
03:40better instrument separation and overall, much improved clarity and vocals.
03:44I'm definitely curious and cannot wait to try them out and let you guys know if they are
03:48indeed a worthy upgrade over the Pro 2's, sound quality wise.
03:53At number 6 they've also improved the water resistance, upgrading from IP54 on the Pro 2's
03:58to IP57.
03:59In this rating, the 7 refers to the water protection.
04:02So while the 4 in IP54 only meant splash resistance, the new 7 means that the AirPods can now be briefly
04:10submerged in water without taking damage.
04:13This is such a welcome upgrade, especially since many people use the AirPods while running
04:17or jogging in the rain.
04:19And even if you accidentally drop them, I don't know, in a puddle for example, they should still
04:24be fine.
04:25At number 7 we have the battery life.
04:27And the good news is that it now goes up from 6 hours on the Pro 2's to 8 hours on the new
04:32Pro 3's, also when using ANC.
04:34The bad news however is that the case now holds less battery than before.
04:39You see, the Pro 2's were advertised as having a 30 hour battery life, including the case.
04:44So 24 on the case and then 6 on the AirPods, which meant that the case could fully charge the
04:49AirPods 4 times.
04:51But the AirPods Pro 3's on the other hand only offer 24 hours of battery life.
04:55And that's including the case.
04:56This translates into 8 hours of battery from the AirPods plus an additional 16 hours from
05:01the case.
05:02Which means that the case only provides 2 full charges of the AirPods as opposed to 4 on the
05:08previous model.
05:09Which is quite a downgrade.
05:10And that's even considering that the case itself got a tiny bit larger.
05:13Which is just weird.
05:14You do however get 10 hours of battery life when using transparency mode with the hearing
05:198 functionality specifically.
05:21Which actually means 4 more hours than the Pro 2's in this case.
05:24Now, the 8th thing you should know is that just like the Powerbeats Pro 2's, the AirPods
05:28Pro 3's also get the new heart rate sensor.
05:31Which, by the way, only works during workouts.
05:33This enables you to track over 50 types of workouts using only your AirPods Pro 3's.
05:38So, you don't even need to wear an Apple Watch at all.
05:41You also get the new workout buddy to motivate you along the way.
05:45Which I do really like.
05:46And on top of tracking your heart rate, your AirPods will also track the calories you've
05:50burned and then you'll also be able to see all of this in either the health app on your
05:53iPhone or in the fitness app.
05:55It will even fill your move ring, although the exercise ring and the stand ring won't
06:00even show up unless you've also got an Apple Watch.
06:03However, I don't necessarily see the point in let's say jogging without your Apple Watch
06:07and only with your AirPods.
06:09Because the AirPods won't be able to work on their own.
06:12They'll need either an Apple Watch or an iPhone.
06:16Which means that you'll need to take your iPhone with you.
06:19In which case, well, you'll also need one of those arm pouches to carry it otherwise
06:25it would just be uncomfortable.
06:26So yeah, the Apple Watch is still the superior fitness tracker here.
06:30Another cool new feature is Live Translation, which enables the AirPods to automatically translate
06:35whenever someone else is talking to you in a different language, while partially blocking
06:39their voice using ANC so you can better focus on the translation coming from the earbuds.
06:44And it gets even better if both people are wearing AirPods, as you can apparently have
06:48a full-blown conversation where each person speaks their own language and then also
06:53hears their own language.
06:55However, this isn't necessarily new, as Google has had it for a few years now and even Samsung
07:00introduced a similar feature not that long ago.
07:02Also this new Live Translation feature won't be exclusive to the AirPods Pro 3s, as it will
07:07also come to the AirPods Pro 2s and the AirPods 4s, although only the ANC version of them.
07:13But you know which AirPods are not getting this feature at all?
07:17The top of the line $549 AirPods Max is.
07:21Yeah, really weird.
07:22So now let's talk about the price.
07:25And this will be a quick discussion as they are remaining the same at $249, just like the
07:30previous versions of the AirPods Pros.
07:32And that's great news, as most leaks were pointing towards a possible price increase due
07:37to higher tariffs and inflation.
07:38So I'm really glad to see that the price has not changed at all since 2019.
07:43So these are the brand new AirPods Pro 3s.
07:45I'm personally super excited to try out the sound quality and also the improved ANC and
07:50the new transparency mode.
07:51As the AirPods Pro 2s were already a massive upgrade in all of these three categories from
07:55the first gen AirPods Pros.
07:57So I'm quite curious to see if the third gens will also be a big upgrade over the second
08:02gens.

08:11As to if they're worth upgrading from the AirPods Pro 3s, I'll have to test them out, wait
08:16and see.
08:17But personally, I would say based on what we know, they are definitely worth upgrading if
08:20you've got the first gens.
