00:00Good morning to everybody. I hope we had a wonderful evening's rest and I'm about to start the five-day topic on the poll I sent to you guys yesterday, do they always know the best for us or the best fit?
00:15And this is in respect to a video I posted on the film Ada and my daddy a few days ago where Missy Agbe, as she was playing her role, said that she is your mother and she knows the best for you. And that made me wonder, do they always know the best for us? And as we explore that question, our parents always write, let's remember that the Bible teaches us to honour your father and your mother, as it says in Exodus 20 verse 12.
00:44However, this doesn't mean that they are infallible. I mean, let's discuss this topic amicably and with an open mind and heart while we seek wisdom and understand it. But let's just point on this. Parents play a vital role in our lives, that's for sure. Providing guidance and wisdom. And as it says in Proverbs 22 verse 6, it says, start children off from the way they should go and even when they are old, they will not depart from it. And it emphasizes the importance of parental guidance, but also acknowledges that children will eventually grow and make their own decisions.
01:14And while parents have valuable experiences and insights, they are not perfect. The Bible reminds us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. And it says that in Romans 3 verse 23, and it says that this means parents, like everyone else, can make mistakes. Their decisions might be influenced by personal biases, limited knowledge or emotional factors.
01:34And sometimes parents might not understand their child's perspective or make decisions that aren't in their best interest. For example, they might be overly straight or lenient. In such cases, it's essential to communicate openly and respectfully, seeking to understand each other's viewpoints.
01:47And as the Bible says, a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stares of anger. And that's quoting from the scripture Proverbs 15 verse 1. And let's just reflect on this before I close off. Let's reflect on our own experiences.
02:00Have you ever felt like your parents didn't understand you or made a decision that wasn't in your best interest? How did you handle the situation? And what did you learn from it?
02:09As Psalm 119 verse 66 says, teach me knowledge and good judgment for I trust your commands. Let's seek wisdom and understanding in our relationship with our parents. We're not done yet.
