Scottish Secretary Doug Alexander has defended the prime minister following backlash over his decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as UK Ambassador to the US. "When the prime minister saw those emails on Tuesday evening, Peter Mandelson was dismissed on Wednesday and that reflects the approach the prime minister takes - it is evidence based," Mr Alexander said.
