00:00Hi, my name is Madeleine Proud from Nexus International School, Malaysia.
00:07I am truly honoured and humbled to be acknowledged as a recipient of the SDG Icon of Change Award 2025
00:15and would like to gratefully accept it on behalf of our entire school community.
00:20As a team, we collectively work together and share the belief that we create a more just, inclusive and sustainable world.
00:28This year, the United Nations has declared 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust.
00:36The values supporting peace and trust are built. They are built through kindness in how we treat one another,
00:42through responsibility in how we act, through resilience when challenges arise,
00:47and through relevance when we dare to engage with the pressing issues of our time.
00:52This is also the shared vision at our school, nurturing relevant, responsible and resilient learners
01:00who will share these attributes with their families, their friends, the wider community,
01:06their future colleagues and their interactions with the world.
01:10As the Director of Global Citizenship, our Global Citizenship Initiative is grounded upon the three simple but powerful principles
01:18of care for self, care for others and care for the world.
01:24We encourage our learners to first nurture their own wellbeing, to extend compassion and respect to those around them
01:31and to take action for the planet we all share.
01:35These values are not taught only in theory, they are lived through experience.
01:41Through our annual Global Goals Days and SDG conferences, our learners engage with real issues alongside our community partners,
01:50from NGOs and sustainability organizations, to local enterprises and global networks.
01:58These collaborations help guide our learners to become changemakers, capable of contributing solutions, leading initiatives and inspiring others.
02:09Our commitment is reflected in the heart of SDG 17, Partnership for the Goals. None of us can achieve the SDGs alone.
02:18When communities and organizations come together, when young people are given a voice and agency,
02:26when partnerships are rooted in trust and a shared vision, then transformation becomes possible.
02:33The SDGs are more than just targets that have been set.
02:37They are promises to our children, to our communities and to our future generations.
02:44Collectively, we must inspire our younger generation to be compassionate leaders, to equip them to be resilient problem solvers,
02:52and to believe deeply that they have the power to shape the future.
02:57At Nexus International School, with our learner-led initiatives, these are a step in this direction.
03:04By working in partnership, with peace as our foundation, and holding strong to our values,
03:10by caring for self, others and the world, together we can make the vision of the SDGs not just an aspiration, but a reality.
