The Inn at Shipley is a warm and welcoming pub on the Staffordshire and Shropshire border
Transcript
00:00So we're here at the very, very cosy Inn at Shipley and we're here with landlady Kayleigh.
00:05Hello. Nice to meet you.
00:07And you. So how long have you been here then, Kayleigh?
00:10Well, I took over in May 22, so I've been the manager here for about three and a half years now.
00:17And once upon a time it was the Thornscroft, wasn't it?
00:19Yes, it was. Very different now.
00:21Yeah, very different indeed.
00:22So just describe your pub and what we have here to people that may have driven past but, you know, not called in yet.
00:30So as far as I'm concerned, the Inn at Shipley is all about feeling really comfortable, really relaxed.
00:37Essentially you're sitting at my kitchen table and I get to look after you, which is the best part of my job.
00:43I say we're very, very chill. We love dogs. We love children here.
00:46So bring them all in. We love families and big parties as well.
00:50And I say we've been here since 2013 as the Inn at Shipley.
00:53It's a little bit different from what the Thornscroft used to be, if you remember.
00:57I say we're all about community and really getting to know our regulars and really getting to know the people we look after here.
01:02And it's ever so cosy. I mean, if people come past and think, well, is it a pub? Is it a restaurant?
01:06It can be both, can't it, really?
01:08Yeah, we really want to push that.
01:09I think Covid made hospitality feel very, very weird and we want to get back to coming and having a drink on a Friday night after work,
01:16coming and having your hammock and chips and a pint after a long day or going for those big parties.
01:22We have weddings and christenings and we have loads of birthday parties here as well.
01:27So we're all down for celebration.
01:28And you've got a lovely room that people can hire upstairs, haven't you, with a big round table?
01:33We have two, actually. We have a private dining room that can seat 12 upstairs and we also can do private parties of up to 20 as well.
01:40All the information is on our website to get some proper info and obviously you can always give us a call if you've got any questions.
01:46And you've got some great beers on tap.
01:48We try very, very hard.
01:50I clocked the golden glow.
01:52Absolutely.
01:52That's a great beer, that.
01:54And a massive beer garden, lovely old tractor feature which will show up on the camera and some lovely hanging baskets.
01:59So when the sun does shine, you've got that covered as well.
02:02Full, yeah. Full service outside and luckily this summer was brilliant.
02:06We did really well with the sunshine.
02:08So we're now preparing, as you can see, with the fire for winter.
02:11So we're changing the seasons ever so slightly.
02:14And in terms of food here, what kind of food can people get?
02:17Any particular dishes you want to give a shout out to?
02:19Yeah, well I've got to.
02:20I would be remiss if I didn't talk about our famous fish and chips.
02:23It's a gluten-free dish.
02:24So for those people who never get to heat it, then it's fully gluten-free.
02:27Obviously our core dishes you'll recognise, so the burgers, the crispy beef salad is a favourite, and the lamb shoulder.
02:34And then every season we like to change up our dishes as well and kind of go from summer favourites to winter warmers.
02:40So you'll see lots of pies, lots of braised meat, a little bit of game coming up in the next few months as well.
02:46So there's loads to go on there.
02:48Fantastic.
02:48Well thank you for inviting us down to your lovely cosy pub for a sit by the fire.
02:52You're very welcome.
02:52I look forward to seeing you again.
