00:00Tails asks Sonic if he's okay and feels something dig into his leg, which is the time machine that gets a big dent in it.
00:07Which is from where Tails and the other Sonic fell in it.
00:11Why was it so poorly made it could get dented that easily?
00:15They just made it cheap.
00:17They didn't have to make it out of the best material ever.
00:21Tails thought it was supposed to vanish when they set everything right.
00:25But it didn't because they were given the wrong time machine earlier.
00:29Apparently the other one was programmed to have a brain and ears than an AI so that it would know when they set things right and only then self-destruct.
00:37Which just risks it being broken before then.
00:40Why?
00:41Sonic is careful not to say Robotnik and instead says Robo, I mean the fat guy.
00:47Because he thinks Kintobor would figure out that he said his name backwards.
00:51But a genius would wonder why he refused to say the whole name.
00:55Sonic says that Kintobor shouldn't take this thing to bits, but it'd look right up on the workshop wall.
01:01Tails says they've got no more villains to beat and calls him on Sonic Heroes.
01:07Which would make it obvious that there was a villain to beat before.
01:11Good thing it's not explained that Kintobor didn't figure this out.
01:15It's so obvious.
01:17He's just playing dumb.
01:19I'm glad the plan worked, but can only be a little relieved because it's halfway through the book.
01:24Time travel plots have this weird obsession with never just allowing history to stay changed.
01:30So we don't trust this.
01:32The best you can hope for is it does stay changed, but it's got a downer ending.
01:38It's like the writers jealous that they got to have time travel and wants to punish them for it.
01:44A month later, Sonic's speeding through Mystic Cave dodging boulders for no reason.
01:50Kintobor had found this place before he put his lab under Green Hill.
01:54Which makes me wonder why he didn't choose here instead.
01:57Sonic's been exploring the world in search of the Grey Emeralds because it was magically not showing up on any radar.
02:04Kintobor spent most of his time tunneling with a device that he had found the first Emeralds with.
02:09Tails spent most of his time sunbathing in Green Hill and chatting to girls who conveniently thought his two tails were cute instead of bullying him for them.
02:19Even though Stay Sonic actually pointed out that he was teased for his tails.
02:25And it just stopped after they found out he could fly.
02:29Sonic stayed in character by not letting it get him down that Tails wasn't around.
02:33And looking on the bright side that this was an excuse to keep his legs in shape running around the whole world.
02:38Even though it was always for nothing.
02:40It reminds us that Sonic loves nature because he enjoyed seeing all of the zones before Eggman messed them up.
02:45The narration says that he has fun jumping over harmless glow bugs.
02:50And that nothing he's doing feels like Hero's work.
02:53He thinks he needs something to get his teeth into.
02:55He's restless.
02:57After a month of showing off in Green Hill for people he was bored of it.
03:01He's selfish enough to say there's no point in saving the world with no glory or challenges left.
03:07Sonic says he's been around the world and all he finds somehow is slime.
03:11No he doesn't.
03:12He skips a stone across the waves and there's a glint in the sky that catches his eye.
03:17And he sees a dark dart like shape speeding across it heading away from him.
03:22A bright flare of flame goes from his tail's end as it's soaring.
03:27And Sonic wonders what that was about because he thought nobody here had a rocket.
03:32Because nobody but Kintobor had the science to build one.
03:36It would be smart if that wasn't true anymore because people discovered the remains of those robots in prehistoric times and were curious enough to study them.
03:44He gets excited about the possibilities and then tries to contact Kintobor with one of the computer monitors installed all over the planet.
03:52But doesn't get an answer even though Kintobor always carried a mini receiver with him that could pick up N signal even if he was underground.
04:00Sonic though for a moment and then he ran home but didn't care that he was taking the long wave for whatever reason.
04:09Sonic stomps in front of his friends and Porcheron characteristically jokes that the grass needed trimming so it's good to see him cut it from just running somehow.
04:17The reason he's being teased is at least explained in this book.
04:21They don't respect him because he's never had to save them.
04:25How does Sonic wonder how he can remember his stuff he undid?
04:28The fact that it's from the bit of him that's still the past Sonic doesn't explain it.
04:32He won't even think the word still at all.
04:35Also Tails wasn't shown fusing with his past self.
04:38Tails says Kintobor can't be back yet and the fridge was empty so he hasn't restocked it.
04:44And the fast way Porker was able to shuffle the cards with measly pig hands made Sonic have deja vu.
04:50Just before Eggman had captured all of his friends there was a game like this one.
04:54Will this matter or be another waste of time?
04:58Why did Sonic think they would play a game against him that he knows he's too fast for it to be fair?
05:03Who cares about them playing a card game? This drags on forever.
05:08Shouldn't Sonic just instantly run back to the lab just to check on Kintobor?
05:13That's way more important.
05:15But at least it's never happened in Sonic before.
05:18And because Sonic's the protagonist of the series I'm willing to give it a pass that he's lucky enough to win the game based off his faint memory of the last time he went through this card game.
05:27He's supposed to be cool after all.
05:29It's still obviously a plot hole.
05:32It's still stupid.
05:33But like lucky things can happen.
05:36You should never have lucky things happen in the first place.
05:40But it's like a minor problem.
05:43They're playing the game for jelly beans so it's got a little creativity in it.
05:48Sonic wins the game and Porker and Flicky think he cheated while Sally sticks up for him.
05:53Tails says he knows how he did it and he's more moral than Sonic by asking why he did it because that wasn't just showing off.
06:00It was arrogance.
06:01So he knows something's wrong now.
06:03This is a dynamic that makes sense because Sonic's an anti-hero.
06:06So Tails has always been more moral than him.
06:09So it's amazing that I only got to see them disagreeing over that twice.
06:13He also doesn't point out that Sonic walked away without picking up the jelly beans he won.
06:18So he didn't even benefit from cheating.
06:21Tails trips over a rock and somehow falls on his back.
06:24Sonic asks if he's okay because that looked like a bad trip.
06:28Even though he kept walking so I didn't think he was still looking at Tails.
06:32Tails says that sounded more like the Sonic he knows.
06:35Even though a lot of his interaction with Tails in this book wasn't being unusually mean actually.
06:40I like that Tails says he's only usually proud to call Sonic his friend.
06:44Because he is mean sometimes to him.
06:46It's nice of Sonic to let that pass.
06:49Instead he says he's bored because he got used to action.
06:53This was done so many times.
06:55But it's so great that it never gets old.
06:57Because it's never done exactly the same way throughout the story.
07:01And it's a reconstruction of Sonic as a character.
07:04That's not outright demonizing him.
07:07Tails says can't be more lucked in a hurry with this workshop a mess.
07:12It wastes my time describing things.
07:16Basically there's some damage done.
07:18Sonic says he couldn't have taken the spacecraft like I had assumed right away because it's not his style.
07:24Ignoring that if people go crazy with despair they would do stuff that's not their style.
07:29The shimmering aura of the force field that surrounded the rock was gone along with the emeralds.
07:35And some of the machines have their warning lights flashing and the treadmills overturned.
07:39Tails wonders if Kinto Borg turned into Eggman anyways.
07:42Which is forced because for that to happen the machine would have needed to blow up and they'd have seen it rain rings.
07:47Tails doubts Sonic that he found the grey emerald to neutralize the other ones without telling them because he was so excited about it.
07:55Tails doubts that because he would have told them ahead of time.
07:58Even though he was so excited to erase all of the evil from the world that he's still been trying to do it even after being told that the attempting of it could have made him not himself anymore.
08:07Sonic wonders if someone stole the emeralds along with Kinto Borg even though it's a secret lab and only Kinto Borg knew about the emeralds existing.
08:15So it must have been someone from another universe.
08:18Sonic decides to search this place for clues and just waste an hour.
08:22Sonic gets hungry and searches the cupboard next to the fridge which hadn't been looked in yet.
08:28Kinto Borg was stuffed in there with an apple in his mouth that's a gag encased in black plastic.
08:34So Sonic tells the suit to stop restraining him and that succeeds.
08:39It's a good thing it was still programmed to do that even when he didn't say the word unrestrain.
08:44The man who cut up an Eggman hits his head on the top of the cupboard before getting out of it and reveals that Arctur is predictably the one who did this.
08:53An hour later the heroes still don't do anything because they don't know what to do.
08:59Tell him to make a spacecraft to chase after them.
09:02I would assume that would be his plan.
09:04Somehow the heroes' only plan is to ask anyone they can find if they saw the spacecraft.
09:10They saw it and that didn't help.
09:13Borg gives Sonic the jelly beans saying that he hopes he chokes on them.
09:17Overreacting to him cheating because nothing bad ever happened to him before.
09:22He wants to leave so Sonic feels forced to apologize and admit that he was feeling weirded out.
09:27He should have said stressed out.
09:29Why am I expecting to enjoy this when he was just talking to someone who hoped he choked on something.
09:36He tells him to share the beans with everyone.
09:39He shouldn't have told him he wasn't cheating because he had no reason to believe him.
09:43So it doesn't help his case.
09:45Porker thanks him and says he's okay and lies that he knew he was.
09:49And for some reason thinks that Sonic had been stupid when he cheated at the game.
09:54Sonic almost tells Porker about the time machine by giving him the exact name of it.
09:59Tails tells him not to give the game away and Sonic apologizes to Porker and says it another time.
10:04And Sonic asks if they saw anything weird and describes what he's looking for.
10:09Sally says a big wind moved down the lake.
10:12Why would she call Joe by his full name?
10:15It must just be a nickname and not his real last name.
10:18She tells him where it went and Sonic thanks them.
10:21And he and Tails leaving the right direction wondering if invisibility was used on the spaceship.
10:26You know they could have just found it without talking to Sally by just running around.
10:32He remembers Gray saying that those people had only invaded the fourth dimension.
10:36Then why did they willingly go to the fourth dimension?
10:40He wonders if they had captured Gray or Orange or Jay and made them tell.
10:45Sonic wonders why Kinterborg is fixing a treadmill as Sonic puts it.
10:49Really he just spun a screw into the bottom of it and welded it into place.
10:54Kinterborg says he fixed it because he's no fool.
10:57He reminds Sonic of the time machine he gave him.
11:00And Sonic admits that it's a time machine that isn't broken and is the way to fix this.
11:05I always did assume that the reason he didn't simply destroy the time machine was just in case he would need it again.
11:11In a world without villains why bother if he doesn't have to yet?
11:15It made sense in universe so I didn't complain.
11:18Even though in a meta sense it was instantly predictable that having this thing around could backfire.
11:23Sonic says that he didn't actually know whether or not the time machine was broken.
11:27Kinterborg says that he knew it was a time machine.
11:30Realistically he was curious about it because he's a scientist.
11:33So he studied it but he can't program it so they could use it.
11:37Even though he's the smartest person ever.
11:40He was able to work out the principle behind it.
11:43He wastes time before saying he doesn't have the tools to repair it.
11:47But it could take the same principles it uses and build them into a bigger machine like this treadmill.
11:53The narration wastes time recapping how it looks.
11:57And Kinterborg says that to go forwards in time Sonic has to stand on the treadmill and run in the direction of the red arrow as fast as he wants.
12:05Kinterborg watches the space around him to see how far back he reached.
12:09And he could do the opposite too.
12:11I love that it's based around Sonic's speed so it feels Sonic like.
12:15He points out a readout and says the top line is how far back or forward he is from when he started.
12:21It sure is convenient for Sonic that their enemies somehow didn't outright kill Kinterborg.
12:27When it was common sense that would have prevented Sonic from stopping them.
12:31I guess they were so overconfident that they thought Sonic and Tails would only go to their deaths.
12:35And that's what they were looking forward to.
12:37So that's why they left him alive.
12:39Nevermind.
12:40Sonic leaves to eat and eventually offers a slice of pizza to Kinterborg that he turns down.
12:46Sonic needs to ask how the machine works a second time.
12:49And it's a way to Kinterborg to tell him that running too fast on a full stomach gives you indigestion and wind.
12:55Sonic runs until the number flickers on 4.
12:59And he stops when he sees Tails flicker.
13:01Tails says he was worried because Sonic disappeared for 4 minutes.
13:05And Tails says he didn't flicker.
13:07He just scratched his ear.
13:09Kinterborg says that Sonic only saw it as a flicker.
13:12Because Tails' movement was to Sonic a split second flash because he was moving forward in time much faster than him.
13:19Sonic somehow dumb enough to be surprised that they're moving forward in time too.
13:24It's entertaining that the good Eggman jokes that he said at trial run about this when Sonic used the conveyor belt for the test.
13:32He tells Sonic to get this time machine outside.
13:35And Sonic's dumb enough to ask why.
13:38If he's going back to the moment before the bad guys appeared, he'd appear in the workshop while he was still here.
13:44And he doesn't want him to alter time.
13:46Even though that's the whole reason they're doing this.
13:50He says that just because Sonic saw a black spaceship flying away from here doesn't mean it had the emeralds on it.
13:56In their timeline, he could have easily attacked them to take the emeralds and returned here with a treadmill minutes from now.
14:02He calls it an uncollapsed probability wave.
14:05He and the writer are trying to avoid a paradox.
14:08Nevermind that Sonic already altered history by preventing Eggman from being made.
14:12And he didn't get rid of the robot remains.
14:15And that was worth it.
14:17So it's already not the same timeline anymore.
14:20What he should explain is that he's worried that if Sonic altered history from Kinterborg's perspective,
14:25then Kinterborg as he knows them would cease to exist because he'd be altered.
14:30So Kinterborg doesn't want to take the risk of dying and being replaced with a copy.
14:35Or just having his memories altered.
14:37Somehow Sonic's dumb enough to ask who goes on the time machine.
14:41Of course he and Tails have to.
14:43They're the fast ones.
14:45Kinterborg wishes them the best of luck.
14:47And they somehow forget for a third time which direction to run.
14:52I hate the Tails wishes he had understood a word of what Kinterborg had been saying about how time travel works.
14:58Why is he glad he explained it if he didn't understand a word of it?
15:02Sonic says to stop the treadmill use.
15:05And Sonic runs into the invisible spacecraft right away, which is good pacing if convenient.
15:11He feels the surface in front of him and pressures up protrusion and reveals an airlock entrance with a door open.
15:18They waste precious time wondering if they should do something somehow.
15:23They go inside and the story wastes time describing the inside.
15:27Tails is smart enough to say they should take a left here because if the ship went over the lake to land,
15:32that means his nose must be pointing north.
15:35And the bridge would be that way.
15:37Sonic says awesomely good thinking.
15:40I hope they're not merely walking through the ship.
15:44They can't run at top speed or they'll hit a wall, but you'd think they'd have good enough reaction times to just run all over the place.
15:52The bare corridors become plusher.
15:55Whatever that means.
15:57Sonic kicks a door to slam it into the wall and alarms go off.
16:02Realistically, they can't read the language the instrument panels are in.
16:07But that just makes it forced that the large folder with the word secret plans, captain's eyes only, are in English.
16:15And what if it's only in English to make Sonic only think he's done here?
16:19Because all of these people speak perfect English.
16:23They try to escape and end up shooting out of the spacecraft's hatchway and right into the magical creatures.
16:31Six of which are carrying emeralds and Arctur is holding a large gun.
16:35Why are they standing still and letting him talk then instead of interrupting him with punches right away?
16:41Instead, somehow it gets the time to brag that they have the means to destroy their enemies and rule the universe.
16:48Sonic lampshades his disappointingly predictable motivation.
16:52He's called a moron.
16:55Sonic throws the folder to the side instead of at him.
16:59And spin jumps towards him, but Arctur is fast enough to dodge him.
17:03Well, he is a mythos creature.
17:06For all we knew, he was always a little faster than Sonic.
17:10But Sonic in the games takes a little while to build up to his amazing speed.
17:14He won't be insanely fast from a standstill just by jumping.
17:18Tails also leaps into the air and some of the minions get knocked in the head.
17:23The heroes bounce between the bad guys so Sonic slams off the helmet of a two-headed creature.
17:29He goes up and bounces onto his other helmet and grabs a tree branch to fling himself back onto another helmet to crack it open.
17:37Tails whacks a rocky head and the soldier collapses sending the pistol he's been holding flying into the air.
17:45Sonic angles himself off the stomach of a white elephant guy and catches the ray gun and bounces off another helmet.
17:53Tails also picks up a gun.
17:55But the heroes stop being cool because they waste time talking instead of instantly shooting Arctur.
18:01They shouldn't be afraid of him because his expression shows that he's not confident about using the laser gun and warns him unconvincingly.
18:09So I have to assume that what's messing them up is a no-kill rule.
18:13They don't have the guts to shoot him.
18:15Even though he isn't defenseless so it's do or die.
18:19They hear a zoosh sound and Sonic says Tails has wind but when he denies it he figures out it's the sound of a spacecraft.
18:27Coming towards them across the lake is a big black spacecraft that's needle thin.
18:34Arctur says that's his spacecraft while just as surprised as Sonic is.
18:39Above them the big rocket goes to a standstill and starts hovering and every gun on its underside points at them while they're outside.
18:47Apparently they were outside and Sonic didn't just get sent out of the window briefly.
18:53Loudspeakers tell them to surrender to the Arctur who exists 10 minutes in his future.
18:59Who tells Arctur to pick up the emeralds and get his crew back on board so he can take off.
19:04So this was able to happen.
19:07So then why was there ever a timeline where Kinterbor was able to get turned into Eggman?
19:14Shouldn't it have been prevented from being turned into Eggman?
19:17Based on how it worked before shouldn't Arctur have actually traveled to essentially a different universe?
19:25Sonic should have never experienced this.
19:28Sonic lets himself get scared into dropping his gun even though it would take a split second to head to Arctur of the present to prevent this.
19:36The real reason is he doesn't want to do something that's guaranteed to kill someone.
19:41He just defend himself like he usually does and what happens happens.
19:45So the writer forces the hero to let the bad guy get away and tell them that he'll destroy their world and get rid of their fourth dimension allies.
19:53The spacecraft leaves as I'm just annoyed that the drama in the rest of the book is going to be forced by Sonic being a coward.
20:01It's almost the same logic for why he lets Eggman outrun him.
20:06Sonic jogs back to the near future and the story forces the narration to pad out the story.
20:12He explains that he's going back to the future because their Kinterbor doesn't need everything explained to him.
20:18It's so frustrating how forced the drama is.
20:21It's so obvious that he could just time travel back in time even further and get to and instantly shoot Arctur with the guns that he left on the ground here.
20:30The fact that he's still refusing to even consider killing this one guy because he'd feel bad when it would save billions of people and prevent the takeover of a universe is psychopathically selfish of him.
20:43When they return, Kinterbor says they were gone for two hours.
20:48He says if they had followed his exact instructions, they would have been brought just by the landed spacecraft before the second one appeared.
20:57Sonic explains how the timeline changed and somehow Kinterbor asks if they got the emeralds when they aren't holding them.
21:04He hands them some stupid pieces of paper that contain their secret plans instead.
21:09Time's wasted over describing again.
21:12Basically he finds a small force field generator for Sonic and Tails to protect them from the airless vacuum of space.
21:18But that would only give them a small amount of extra time before they run out of air.
21:22He tells them to follow him to the tunnel entrance.
21:26He says the mythos creatures are going to recreate the universe as a whole no matter how much needless work it'd require.
21:32With how big a universe is, it'd take forever to finish altering all of it.
21:37And the majority of it would still just be nothingness.
21:41And this kind of overly high stakes to force a downending without them needing to get the emeralds of every universe ever
21:47is why it's a lazy plot point to have the Chaos Emeralds able to provide as much power as anyone would want,
21:53as fast as someone wants, so that literally any machine can be made functional with them.
21:58And that's why it's lazy to have the emeralds themselves able to do literally anything if that's it instead.
22:05Kinderpore tells Sonic to go to the Big Bang because that's where the Bat Guys are headed to try to alter the nature of it.
22:12Somehow Tails asks if Arcturus' plan is bad, and somehow Sonic asks how bad that is.
22:19He tells the heroes not to destroy the emeralds there.
22:23How did he think they would be able to?
22:25It'd waste some time until Sonic and Tails start using the treadmill.
22:29And I'm wondering why there's over 30 pages left.
22:33Because logically, Sonic would win immediately after this.
22:36Because he's the fastest thing alive.
22:39It's not explained that they're going back in time holding the guns from earlier.
22:43So what do they expect to do?
22:46But since it's a matter of saving the entire universe, they have no excuse for not using lethal force.
22:52Then it gets insanely boring because the writer takes a while to describe what the heroes see around them for a needlessly long time even when it leads to repetition.
23:01You get it pretty quickly, so it should have cut to the Big Bang after the first paragraph.
23:06Won't they have run out of oxygen in the force field before they could get to the Big Bang?
23:10Do they just keep turning off the force field and then turn it back on when they run out?
23:14At least it's not terrible writing like them magically being able to breathe in space with no explanation.
23:21So insultingly predictable that they're going to somehow fail.
23:26Couldn't they have just prevented Kintibor from even getting at the Chaos Emeralds and told them it would only lead to them being used to end the universe?
23:34Couldn't they grab the Chaos Emeralds themselves and bring them back in time?
23:39And just hide them somewhere no one would find them?
23:42Like in a volcano.
23:44They could have brought the secret plans with them as proof.
23:47The only way this could be necessary was if he wouldn't believe them and they wouldn't want to have to resort to physical force with him.
23:53That's what sucks.
23:54This all goes back to the Sonic series only exists because Sonic doesn't choose to kill Eggman.
24:00By running at him at the speed of sound.
24:03At least with other action series you can't say that.
24:06Mario and Link always try to kill the main bad guy and it's just not good enough.
24:11It would have been a better series if they just did that with Eggman 2 by having Eggman be able to respawn as a clone.
24:18Or a robot that just de-roboticizes himself.
24:21The narration keeps describing what Sonic and Tails are seeing and says the special effects budget for this must have been huge.
24:28It tries to be funny out of nowhere in a meta joke but it's just pathetic that he thinks he's making up for wasting a gigantic amount of time on narration that he should have known was worthless.
24:38Somehow Tails ends up needing a rest and steps off to balance himself on the side of the machine.
24:45Now I'm wishing that Kintipur went with him.
24:48Because he could have just balanced himself on the side of the machine.
24:51And then they wouldn't have to lose him when they have to undo saving him.
