00:00In Bolivia, the economy shows signs of recovery, despite a boycott of the political opposition,
00:05which in 2023 was taking measures to create a crisis and was used by the right as an electoral
00:12theme for national elections. Our correspondent, Freddy Morales, gives us the details.
00:19Official data on the economy's performance show clear signs of recovery. One is the drastic
00:24reduction in inflation. In July, we continued to see a downward
00:30trend in the inflation rate. In July, we recorded 1.20 after the high of 6.21 in June, and in August,
00:41it fell to 1.01. This brings the cumulative total for the 2025 administration to 18.09.
00:54Another encouraging fact is that for the third consecutive month, in July, there was a trade
01:00surplus of $28 million, despite the opposition boycott of roadblocks, and the freezing of external
01:06credit. They have begun to strangle the economy by preventing credits from entering and exporters
01:11have done their part by not putting commercial currency into the financial system, which has
01:15led to inflation of 9.93%. That is where inflation began to arise, because it was caused by all these
01:22economic maneuvers that have led to a systematic bombardment of economic management. And by 2025,
01:28with the production chain already broken by 2024, with economic management practically destroyed,
01:33they have decided to finish off with the final blockade in June. Political and social pressures
01:39were even recorded in reports by international financial organizations.
01:43The International Monetary Fund, JP Morgan and Moody's say in a key paragraph, that in Bolivia
01:50inflation is to blame for the political struggle polarization and lack of governance between the
01:55executive and legislative branches. What does this mean? It means that they are not working together
02:01because laws are not being passed and credits that should have been approved are not being approved.
02:05According to this analysis, the economic crisis, which was largely deliberately caused, not only did
02:14it allow the right to use the issue to win the recent elections, but it will also facilitate the
02:19handover of strategic sectors of the economy to transnational companies.
02:23Strategic raw materials as an excuse for crisis pass into transnational hands, for example,
02:32lithium is like a popcorn because lithium is $10,000 per tonne. Copper is $47,000, rare earths from
02:40$70,000 to $200,000 per tonne, so where is the business in mining and where are they focusing then in mining?
02:46The economic crisis began with a shortage of dollars due to the reduction in state natural gas
02:56exports. From there, the political opposition boycotted the government's initiatives to address
03:02the crisis. The most obvious example is the freezing of foreign loans by the opposition-controlled
03:07legislative assembly. Right now, there are almost $1.9 billion in new loans paralyzed in the legislature.
