00:30U.S. President Donald Trump stopped short of fully condemning Israel's strike on the Qatari capital of Doha on Tuesday, despite growing condemnation from international leaders.
00:42The Trump administration said Israel's action was unilateral and that it was unfortunate that Qatar, a key U.S. ally, was targeted.
00:51Well, I'm not thrilled. I'm not thrilled about it.
00:53I don't have to do that. I'm just, I'm not thrilled about the whole situation. It's not a good situation.
01:02But I will say this, we want the hostages back. But we are not thrilled about the way that went down today.
01:09Israel said it targeted senior Hamas leadership in the strike on Doha in a widening of its campaign against the militant group.
01:18The strike came after a gunman killed six at a bus stop in Jerusalem on Monday.
01:23Hamas claimed its leadership was intact with five lower-level members killed in the strike.
01:27Qatar condemned the move as a blatant violation of international law alongside the EU, France, Spain and the United Kingdom, who called for an end to escalation in the Middle East.
01:37Israel has carried out an attack on the Hamas leadership in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Tuesday.
01:49Israeli officials confirmed the strike targeted senior Hamas officials, further widening its campaign against the militant group.
01:58It is unclear whether there were any casualties at this time.
02:02However, a senior group leader told media organization Al Jazeera that the Hamas leadership delegation survived the attack.
02:14An international activist group seeking to deliver aid to Gaza on a flotilla says one of its boats was hit by what it believes was a drone while docked in Tunisia.
02:24The lead vessel, called the family boat, was carrying the most famous members of the flotilla, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and former Barcelona mayor Adakolau.
02:37The convoy aims to break the Israeli blockade of famine-stricken Gaza.
02:42Crew members said the attack will not deter them from their mission.
02:45Tunesian authorities denied claims that a drone struck the boat,
03:13but videos circulating online show a flaming projectile hitting the front deck of the vessel.
03:19The voyage comes months after a smaller flotilla similarly tried to deliver aid to Gaza
03:24before it was illegally intercepted by Israeli authorities in international waters,
03:29who called the effort a publicity stunt.
03:32At least 21 people have been killed after a Russian glide bomb hit a village in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region,
03:50according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
03:53The bomb, which hit the village of Yarova, less than 10 kilometers from the front line,
03:59killed elderly people who were queuing to receive their pensions,
04:03while 21 others were injured, according to the regional governor.
04:07Zelensky condemned the strike as a brutally inhumane attack,
04:12urging the international community to increase sanctions on Russia.
04:16The city of Zaporizhia was struck with Shahid drones,
04:21leaving several people injured and set in homes on fire.
04:24One local resident described the scene.
04:27Meanwhile, the central part of Kherson was also attacked overnight,
04:50causing a fire that burnt down trade kiosks in the city's market.
04:54A total of 84 drones were launched overnight on Ukraine,
04:59of which, according to its armed forces, 60 were downed.
05:07Up to three prisoners are forced to share this nine-square-meter cell.
05:13This is common in Belgium, where prisons face severe overcrowding.
05:17Violence tends to rise when resources are lacking,
05:21putting both inmates and staff at risk.
05:24We visited a neglected prison in Brussels
05:27that has been taken over by an association
05:29aiming to raise awareness of lives like Jean-Luc's.
05:33He returned to the very walls where he spent 18 years
05:37enduring many difficult moments.
05:40Experts say psychological and family support are essential for the victims.
05:45Improving inmates' behavior, but overcrowding hinders the process.
05:47Experts say psychological and family support are essential for improving inmates' behavior,

06:03Experts say psychological and family support are essential for improving inmates' behavior,
06:10but overcrowding hinders the process.
06:15We don't have any social assistants, doctors, psychiatrists who take charge of this question
06:21to allow these people to leave in a better state than in which they are entered.
06:26Belgium is one of the European countries with the most overcrowded prisons, housing over 13,000 inmates in facilities designed for just 11,000.
06:49This is a widespread problem across Europe, particularly in countries such as France, Italy and Cyprus.
07:19This year, I was part of a collaborative effort.
07:48which involved nine local news organizations, the New York Times and Big Local News, which I run out of Stanford University.
07:55And I think the thing that is notable to me is I've actually been lucky enough to have been a part of a few other Pulitzers in the past,
08:02but this one was a true collaboration among local newsrooms, and I think that's where we see the power in local journalism.
08:08If we can work together to find unique stories out of one set of information or data for our local communities,
08:16because that's where we'll find impact, and I think that's what the Pulitzer jury was awarding.
08:20I think local news is imperative. It's critical.
08:23And AI is, like anything computerized, is only as good as the information that is put in.
08:29And while there are a lot of AI models and you can use AI tools for good in terms of being able to process and put out information,
08:38if you don't have local journalists, you're not going to have good information.
08:51Both. I think it's for the better and for the worse, and I think that's true of any new tool.
08:56We can find good ways to use it and bad ways to use it, and so we have to be vigilant and make sure that we're using it toward the good.
09:02So I think the challenges for journalists is one, to make sure that they're keeping the human involved in the AI loop, as they say,
09:09because otherwise we'll end up with misinformation, and we have to be very careful about that.
09:15And the other challenge for journalists is learning to use AI effectively so that they can scale up what they are doing and have greater impact.
09:22I think that readers need to also become familiar with what AI can do for them and to also be skeptical.
09:38So there's a saying in journalism that if your mother says she loves you, you should check it out.
09:42And I think if AI says something that is true, you should check it out.
