00:00If you are fleeing a domestic violence situation and you are a renter, the law is on your side,
00:05not working against you. Unfortunately, the reality is that the red tape, the bureaucracy
00:11that's involved in a victim survivor of domestic violence, leaving that situation is overwhelming
00:17for somebody in those circumstances and we don't want anyone staying in a relationship that's
00:22unsafe because they feel that they have to. For people experiencing domestic and family violence,
00:26leaving is often the hardest and will stay to swipe. Leaving an abuse of own is hard enough.
00:34You don't want our rental laws to make that harder. These reforms make it easier for a victim survivor
00:39to leave a dangerous one. At the heart of these reforms are about safety, about dignity and actually
00:45about fairness. These are practical and compassionate changes that the government is seeking to make
00:50to ensure that, hey, we protect victim survivors like domestic violence at a time when they need it
00:55most, we empower them to make decisions to improve their safety, and we're also supporting
01:00against victim survivors in the long term.
