Hamas says six dead in Israeli strike including Qatari security officer

00:01Over the skies of Doha, smoke was visible from motorways crossing the Qatari capital.

00:08Fires broke out after explosions struck the city around midday.

00:13Israel quickly claimed responsibility.

00:17At noon today, I convened the heads of Israel's security organisations

00:21and authorised a surgical precision strike on the terrorist chiefs of Hamas.

00:27These are the same terrorist chiefs who planned, launched and celebrated the horrific massacres of October 7th.

00:38Hamas officials said the buildings normally housed the group's negotiators in Doha,

00:43though it was unclear if they were occupied at the time.

00:47Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he ordered the strikes in response to Monday's attack in East Jerusalem,

00:54which killed six people and was claimed by Hamas.

00:58His office stressed that Israel acted alone.

01:01But Israeli officials told reporters that former US President Donald Trump had given his approval for these strikes.

01:09Qatar, a close US ally, reacted sharply in a statement read on national television.

01:16This criminal attack constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms

01:22and a grave threat to the safety and security of Qataris and residents of the state of Qatar.

01:30Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the UN Secretary General also condemned these strikes.

01:38The US Embassy in Doha advised its citizens to shelter in place.
