00:00This picture is of my sister, mom, and I.
00:11It just shows how much my mom loved us.
00:17We were very close.
00:25You can see how she's just hugging us.
00:30I wish I could go back to this time and just hold her and not let go.
00:39She was dumped in the woods like trash.
00:51She was dumped in the woods like trash.
01:10My mom didn't have any enemies.
01:12My mom loved people, and she did not deserve that.
01:22The investigators looked at everyone, anyone in her life.
01:40They looked at my biological father.
01:47They looked at Terry.
01:50We all knew he did it.
01:52I see a murderer.
02:14As far as I'm concerned, I don't have a brother.
02:17I don't have any photos of him.
02:24I don't have any good stories of him.
02:30My children aren't at an age where I want them to know that evil like him exists.
02:38He disgusts me.
02:46Anyways.
02:48I don't know.
03:18This is a picture of Terry and I, when I was a baby, and he was six.
03:42It's a very cute picture, we're smiling so big.
03:46You can just tell there was a lot of love there.
03:51He was my mom's first child, first baby boy, and she loved him to pieces.
04:01He was cute and he was caring, but that didn't last long.
04:06It's hard looking at the picture, knowing what he ended up being capable of doing.
04:43We worked three jobs, and our parents were always gone, and so my brother would be in charge.
04:56One day we were home alone, and Terry told me to invite two of my friends over.
05:03I had no idea what he had planned, and he started shooting them with his Nerf guns.
05:11And at first, I didn't think anything of it exactly.
05:20And they're screaming, and they're running through the house, and he had one blocked in the closet.
05:28And he was laughing.
05:31I was yelling at him to stop, and then they ended up running out of the house.
05:37And that's when we realized something's not right.
05:43There was blood.
05:48Terry had put sewing needles in his Nerf guns.
05:56And I asked him, I said, why would you do that?
06:00And he said, I just wanted to.
06:04Looking back at it, that incident with the Nerf guns started to show a different side of him, a very dark side.
06:15Terry got pleasure out of tormenting my friends who were young, because it's like he had power over them,
06:25that they were screaming, and that they're yelling stop, and that they're running from him.
06:34He liked that.
06:37I was always scared.
06:40Terry would do these weird games with my sister and I, where he would give us an ultimatum.
07:02We would either have to lick his shoe or go inside a sleeping bag headfirst.
07:12And so I remember climbing in the sleeping bag, and he would sit on me where I was trapped, and he would start punching me.
07:25And I'm screaming, because I'm feeling claustrophobic.
07:28I can't move.
07:29I can't get out.
07:31I'm hyperventilating, because I feel like I can't breathe.
07:35And you're squirming, and you feel like it's just not ever going to end.
07:43I definitely remember panicking about not being able to breathe, because sometimes, you know, he would, like, sit on it or tie it up.
07:52So then we'd, you know, just really scary situations.
07:56But I know if you panic and freak out or start to cry or scream or anything, it angered him.
08:05It would make him mad.
08:08And I think he always enjoyed and got pleasure out of being so dominant over someone.
08:17And whenever we confront him, like, why do you do this stuff to us?
08:21Why do you always torture us, pretty much?
08:24It would be ten times worse the next time.
08:30I remember him playing on the basketball team when he was in high school.
08:45And he didn't get along with some of his teammates, and he would get in fights with them.
08:54So when my brother came home with the cast on his hand, we were asking what happened, and he said that the kid on his basketball team was running his mouth.
09:06So he punched him in it.
09:09Terry's demeanor was that he didn't care.
09:12He did want a reputation.
09:14He was bigger and stronger.
09:20And I did think, wow, you don't want to mess with my brother.
09:27That is the first fight that stayed with me.
09:34There were others after that.
09:36It was always somebody else's fault why he did something.
09:41My mom always believed my brother.
09:44She said trouble always finds him.
09:48I think Terry liked to hurt others because he was in a sense of control and power.
09:57Where do you think that came from?
10:01You want my honest opinion?
10:09It was his nature.
10:12Because we did grow up in the same household, and my mom was very nurturing, yet Terry had this darkness about him.
10:24I knew the brother that I grew up with was gone.
10:29I didn't know who he was.
10:33And this is Terry, myself, and my sister with Santa Claus.
10:42I don't know who made my outfit.
10:48We were cute kids.
10:49He looks like a sweet kid.
10:50He doesn't look anything like he does now.
10:55It's hard to imagine making sense of any of it.
11:02He does not look evil here.
11:04He does not look like somebody who could do the things that he did to our mom.
11:13It's almost impossible to see that he was a sweet little kid.
11:20Because all I know is the monster.
11:57We prayed. God was very big in our life. He was the center of our household.
12:04Terri did not participate as much as she hoped.
12:10So there was a time that my mom was taking me to church and made him go,
12:18because he was not acting right.
12:23He would just be so disrespectful and disobedient that it was impossible to live with him.
12:35So she made him go with us to church that day.
12:38And it wasn't long at all into the service that he was yelling
12:44that my pastor didn't need to be up there because he's telling everyone lies
12:50and he's going to go to hell for that. And Terri knows because he's seen it all.
12:59Terri had been spiraling out of control.
13:04It was gut-wrenching.
13:07Just some of the stuff he said, it was so gross and just you couldn't follow it.
13:12You're like, who is this person?
13:17We have seen that side of him quite a few times.
13:20That's just who he turned into.
13:25You never knew what he was going to say or do.
13:29But for him to show all my friends and my community that side of him,
13:37it was definitely embarrassing.
13:42I was sick to my stomach.
13:55Terri struggled with being respectful.
13:57You couldn't tell him what to do.
13:59I remember a day where I was in my room and I'm playing and all of a sudden I hear arguing.
14:08Get your hands off!
14:09So I go and peek out from the corner on top of the steps
14:14and my brother and my biological father were getting in a fight.
14:18Get your hands off!
14:20Because my brother was being disrespectful.
14:23Terri was always one that wasn't going to back down from anyone or anything.
14:30And that's when he got physical with my dad.
14:35And they went through my mom's curio cabinet.
14:40Glass everywhere.
14:47And my mom's over there just screaming, trying to separate them.
14:53And she grabs Terri because he had glass and blood all over.
14:59And Terri once again made it sound like it wasn't his fault.
15:07He wasn't remorseful.
15:08It was a, you come at me and that was what you're going to get.
15:17I didn't understand why any of this was happening.
15:20It was very traumatizing to witness.
15:26And it still is an image and memory that still lives with me.
15:33He was out of control.
15:37So then my mom reached out to her brother in Iowa for Terri to go move with them.
15:47It was not an easy decision for my mom to make.
15:52But she felt like she had no other option.
15:56My mom was at her wit's end.
15:59I did not miss him.
16:01It was peaceful when he was gone.
16:03I did not miss him.
16:04It was peaceful when he was gone.
16:05I did not miss him.
16:07I did not miss him.
16:08I did not miss him.
16:09I did not miss him.
16:10I did not miss him.
16:11I did not miss him.
16:12He came into the house very abruptly and just in a panic.
16:28He was in a panic, and he was covered in blood and dirt.
16:37Of course, my mom goes running to him and is like, what happened?
16:41He was supposed to be out walking the dogs, and he was saying that he was jumped.
16:50And so my mom asked, because he wasn't, you know, bleeding anywhere, like, where is this blood from?
16:58And he admitted that he had stabbed someone.
17:07My mother convinced him that he needed to call the police.
17:17I have already been too embarrassed to go back to my church.
17:21I'm already embarrassed at school, at, you know, all my favorite places,
17:26and now there's police in my house.
17:30He claimed self-defense.
17:33He was always the victim in everything, always.
17:37As I got older, I saw through him.
17:40He's a good actor.
17:44So whenever he was talking to the police about his version of what happened,
17:51I was just trying to picture it, and it did not make sense to me.
17:58And I could read it and tell that he was lying.
18:01And I was wondering if the police would read it and know he's lying, too.
18:07He wasn't charged with anything.
18:09They believed him.
18:10I felt like he could get away with anything.
18:17I love this picture.
18:31My mom's smile is so big.
18:41This is like a true picture of my mom.
18:46A loud laugh, a big smile.
18:50Oh, I miss her.
18:51I miss everything about her.
18:52I miss her smile.
18:55I miss her hugs.
18:57I miss her voice.
18:59In quiet times when I'm alone,
19:03I do talk to her.
19:07Like she's still there.
19:12Do you see your grandbabies?
19:15Or are you proud of me?
19:40I just want my mom to be proud of me.
19:42And I often wonder if she is.
19:45I don't know.
19:46It's not alone.
19:47It's gonna be so big and easy.
19:49I never want to be proud of her.
19:50It's gonna be so great.
19:51I think she's already dead.
19:52From the moment we met him,
20:12my mom's whole demeanor and everything changed.
20:16I miss him so much, and I got to see what love really looked like, and to see how happy
20:37my mom was.
20:41And he took in all of us with all of our baggage and our crazy and such a good man.
20:56He set the bar high.
21:02We tried to have a relationship with Terry, and my brother pretended to be best friends
21:08with him until his true colors came out.
21:24I was disappointed because we all had our hopes crushed again.
21:35He was up for parole, and he asked her to be there on his behalf and state where he would
21:43be staying and the good things that he would be doing.
21:46And she shocked everybody by saying no.
21:55She did not think that he should be up for parole.
21:59It was very difficult for her to do.
22:03My mom was torn.
22:07She was torn because she loved her son, and she didn't want anything to happen to him.
22:19She was a major turning point.
22:22He would write her letters letting her know what he thought of her and what a bad mother
22:29she was.
22:32And he was never going to forgive her.
22:36And everything bad in his life was because of her.
22:40They never let me read them.
22:43But I remember my sister got a hold of them, and she told me some of the stuff that was
22:48in them.
22:50Tabitha told me he wanted to kill her.
22:55My mom struggled.
22:57She would cry, and my stepdad would just hold her, and then he'd get upset.
23:04And it got to the point that her and my stepdad were terrified of when he got out.
23:11I think the whole house was on edge.
23:27My mom and my sister, we were all together, and then my brother got brought up.
23:33And my sister was not aware that I wasn't aware of the discovery they made.
23:42And she mentioned about him violating my pictures.
23:53And I was like, what?
23:55What are you talking about?
23:58And she told me how he would cut me out of my photos and ejaculate on them.
24:15I've never hated anybody before.
24:25He did whatever he could to ruin our lives.
24:29And I was done letting him do that to mine.
24:38And from that moment, I swore I would never look at him again, and I meant it.
24:49And I made it clear to my mom I meant to.
24:52When I was done letting her take him back, I was done.
24:57And if she didn't, then I'd be done with her.
25:01I did not want to show my face at school.
25:04I didn't want no friends.
25:07I couldn't go to church.
25:11He had taken enough from me.
25:13He is a sick, disturbed monster.
25:33This is a picture of my mom kissing my dad on the cheek.
25:38This is when my dad was sick, my dad, Mike, and it was very hard.
25:44My mom was a caretaker, so she was caring for him.
25:50Yeah, this is a hard time for her because the love of her life is very sick, and she felt
25:58helpless.
25:59And she was just doing everything she knew to do to help him and take care of him.
26:06When Mike died, my mom went through so much grief, and depression, and loneliness, just
26:23so sad.
26:36She was just so sad all the time, and that's when she invited Terri to come back.
26:50Terri definitely saw it as an opportunity to take advantage of her.
26:59Here she is vulnerable.
27:00Here she is alone.
27:02I didn't think it was a good idea for her to bring him back in the home, but at that
27:09time, I didn't think that he would hurt her.
27:17Like even though I had that gut feeling, I didn't think that it was going to come to this.
27:32I wish I would have done something to save my mom.
27:39My mom was supposed to stop by the house and hang out for a little bit.
28:00And she called and she just said she was too tired.
28:05She seemed a little down.
28:07And I just said, okay, mom, you go home and get some rest, and I love you.
28:15It seemed off that my mom was a little down and tired.
28:22Like something was bothering her, but my mom didn't open up and share.
28:30And that was the last phone call I had with her.
28:37So my uncle called me Wednesday.
28:44Hello?
28:45Hello?
28:46And he was like, hey, have you heard from your mom?
28:50He's like, you know, I kept calling her and haven't heard from her.
28:55And so we tried calling.
28:58It's going to voicemail.
29:00It's going to voicemail.
29:01And that's when it sank in.
29:04There's something wrong.
29:18She was hysterical on the phone.
29:21And all I could gather was, mom's missing.
29:26But she just was screaming stuff into the phone.
29:28I couldn't understand her.
29:30So I hung up, and I called my uncle.
29:33And I was telling him, something's wrong with Tabitha.
29:36I need you to go get her.
29:38Figure out what's going on.
29:40She said, mom's missing.
29:43And he said, and your mom is missing.
29:47And it still didn't register.
29:49I was like, what do you mean?
29:51Y'all are five miles up the road.
29:53How is my mom missing?
29:57And then I had asked my aunt and uncle, well, what does Terry say?
30:04And their response was, all he is saying is that she left.
30:10And didn't tell him where she was going without her dogs.
30:15I didn't buy it for a second.
30:21I knew that wasn't true.
30:24Like, point blank.
30:27That story's not true.
30:29Her dogs were a major red flag.
30:34She didn't go to a store.
30:36She didn't go to an event.
30:38She didn't take us to school without her dogs.
30:44If she grabbed her keys, they knew to load up.
30:47When they found her vehicle, it was kind of like a knot in your stomach.
31:08Because my first question was, then where is she?
31:16And I didn't know if she was kidnapped.
31:19I didn't know if she was robbed.
31:22Either way, finding the vehicle and not finding her, it's not a good situation.
31:27Her car was found not too far from the house, but on a road that we wouldn't have been on.
31:34And her belongings were on the outside of the car.
31:38But they were placed a specific way so that they could be found.
31:44Her phone was found.
31:46Her purse was found.
31:48All of her money, her ID.
31:53Everything except the vehicle key.
31:57We knew she was in trouble.
32:00And after it had been a while, we were advised, we need to be looking for a body.
32:09And a search party was put into place.
32:15And volunteers came in.
32:19It was not long at all.
32:22We got a call to meet at the fire department.
32:25I called my sister and we sped so fast.
32:30I went inside expecting to see her.
32:40And they said we found a body.
32:42And I just remember everything going blurry.
32:52And I couldn't breathe.
32:58I couldn't see straight.
33:00They found her not far from our house at all.
33:08I used to walk to where it is.
33:12On the side of the road.
33:15With a bunch of garbage.
33:19Left there.
33:20My mother was strangled so severely, her larynx was snapped in half.
33:32Nothing made sense.
33:34How did this happen?
33:35That was when I was pregnant.
33:50And she was always touchy-feely.
33:53She would hug you for the longest time.
33:56She would make sure you felt her emotions.
33:59And as a kid, you, you hate it.
34:04Because you're like, oh, this is so awkward.
34:07It's so long.
34:09You're so weird.
34:11But I would do anything for one of them hugs now.
34:20The pain never goes away.
34:24You just get stronger at hiding it.
34:29When I walked into the house, it was a very eerie feeling.
34:53Terry had taken over the house, so it was very strange.
34:59To be in the home.
35:01It's very unsettling.
35:04And I'm shaking.
35:07And I'm scared.
35:09Because I don't want to be around him.
35:16I didn't hear you come in.
35:20I was asking him how he was doing.
35:23And he said, I'm just ready for all this to be over.
35:28His eyes looked so dark.
35:31And he looked soulless.
35:34I've never seen anything like that before.
35:37But I did it so they would have a recent picture in case he did run.
35:45And quickly got out of there.
35:46And as they were searching my mom's house, they found my mom's Betty Boo keychain that she had had that wasn't in the car.
35:59Here we are on the road again.
36:00I didn't know the significance at first.
36:01Love traveling.
36:02But on one of our trips to see Ann when she was pregnant.
36:03I'm recording.
36:04I don't even know why.
36:05I'm recording.
36:06I don't even know why.
36:07just, I grew up with my mom recording us kids, you know.
36:08Mommy, you gotta go.
36:09Take it.
36:10I was da.
36:11You gotta go.
36:12I'm not so sorry.
36:13I'm just, you gotta go.
36:14I'm not so sorry.
36:15I'm sorry, I didn't know my mom's Betty Boo keychain that she had had that wasn't in the car.
36:17Here we are on the road again.
36:18I didn't know the significance at first.
36:20Love traveling.
36:21But on one of our trips to see Ann when she was pregnant,
36:26Mom a big rig right there.
36:27Oooo!
36:29I'm recording.
36:31I don't even know why.
36:32I just, I grew up with my mom recording us kids, you know.
36:36Mommy, you're going to be a grandma.
36:39I doubt.
36:40I'm recording the scenery.
36:42I'm recording my mom.
36:45And as I'm moving the camera, I capture her keys and her keychain.
36:55The keychain ended up being one key evidence in the investigation.
37:06I didn't even know I had the video of it at the time.
37:09I was just looking at videos of my mom.
37:15And I was missing her.
37:19And that's when I was like, there it is.
37:28I gave them the video.
37:30I believe that is when they charged him with my mom's murder.
37:37I want him to be remorseful.
38:08And honest for once.
38:12And I want him to take accountability.
38:16He took...
38:19my best friend from me.
38:26He took my kids' grandma, who they'll never get to meet.
38:32I still have nightmares of him chasing me.
38:42I get frightened when I see somebody like him.
38:46And I hide.
38:48And then I have to catch myself.
38:52He's locked up.
38:53It's not him.
38:54I'm ashamed that I'm afraid of him.
39:02I'm trying to work on not being afraid.
39:05And finding that freedom from that fear.
39:11It's hard to say, but I forgive him.
39:14which isn't easy.
39:18And I've had to work on it.
39:21And it's not...
39:22it's not necessarily for him, but for me.
39:25And I'm still angry.
39:34And mad.
39:35But I can't have hate in my heart.
39:42I was pursuing the death penalty, but in the state of North Carolina, that was not an option.
40:05I believe in it, in an eye for an eye.
40:14And you reap what you sow.
40:16And that includes him.
40:22Terry Ellison is a monster.
40:25How could you hurt the one person who has never given up on you?
40:33I wonder all the time...
40:36How somebody could be that evil and do that.
40:42Does he think about her?
