00:00I had this reoccurring nightmare for a very long time,
00:11and I could recall sprinting out of the house
00:15knowing that someone was following me.
00:22And he's got a gun.
00:25The bullets passed right by my head.
00:27And I keep running.
00:31I turn around, and that's when I realized it was Randy.
00:36Sometimes I would wake up screaming.
00:41I had this nightmare every night.
00:57Oh, my God, she's beautiful.
01:03How could anybody hurt somebody as beautiful as her?
01:12He's a monster.
01:13I'm sorry that had to happen to her.
01:21I'm sorry she had to go through the same things that I did.
01:26It was a trap, and we both fell in it.
01:30The only difference is, I made it out, and she didn't.
01:38I'm really sorry, honey.
01:41I'm really sorry.
01:43I'm sorry.
01:43I don't know.
02:13I met Randy in a church that I was going to.
02:34My initial first impression of him was, this is a good guy.
02:43Because he was always so nice and cheerful and smiling and good-looking, tall.
02:51So I came early one day and sat next to him.
02:55That's when our relationship started.
02:58When I started dating Randy Gay, I was not looking for a relationship.
03:06It just happened.
03:07We liked each other.
03:11He just seemed like the kind of person that I could trust.
03:16He treated me like I was a queen.
03:19I believe that Randy was married once prior, but I didn't really think anything of it.
03:29I had heard that Randy had a past and that it wasn't a good one.
03:41But I trust in God.
03:45And I believe that everybody deserves a second chance.
03:51His past is his past.
03:53Let it go.
03:54What do you think?
03:56Dinner tonight?
03:57I thought I found my partner.
04:00I thought I'd found my soulmate.
04:02But I didn't.
04:15The more I look back on it, I can see it better.
04:20Randy was using me and was playing me for a fool.
04:28And I think that made him happy because I was playing right into his little game.
04:50One night, we were talking, just talking.
05:10I asked him about his past.
05:13And he said, are you sure you want to know?
05:20It might make you think differently about me.
05:23And I said, yeah, I do.
05:27And he said, okay.
05:31He told me that one day, his father had gotten physical with a woman that Randy was dating.
05:41And things got out of hand, and Randy shot his father to protect her.
05:48Oh, my God, it killed me.
05:50When he told me he had shot his father, I was scared.
05:55My God.
05:56Up to that point, I never saw the dark side of him.
06:01I didn't know what to think.
06:04They pulled me away for a long time.
06:06I was very shocked when I heard that Randy was capable of doing that because he was this sweet, loving man that I knew or thought I knew.
06:24He was sentenced to 20 years, but he got out on good behavior.
06:30He probably thought that I was going to leave, and I wasn't going to do that.
06:44I was touched by his vulnerability and his honesty.
06:52He told me he was trying to turn his life around, and I believed him.
07:01In my eyes, God put him in my life for a reason.
07:06Like I said, everybody deserved a second chance, so I gave him one.
07:12But I didn't know everything.
07:16When we got married, I thought the past was the past for both of us.
07:38I thought my future was going to be good.
07:42I thought everything was going to be perfect.
07:47It wasn't.
07:53Randy and I had gone over to his friend's house, and this friend was his best friend.
08:03Everything seemed like it was okay.
08:08Everything seemed fine.
08:10And then something was said, which triggered Randy's reaction, and Randy punched him.
08:23And then it was on.
08:27All I could see was just rage.
08:32His eyes had changed.
08:35His face had changed.
08:37His full demeanor had changed completely.
08:43It was shocking to me, but I was screaming and crying and telling them both to stop.
08:54He looked at me with daggers and fire in his eyes.
08:59I was terrified.
09:00When the fight ended, the friend looked bad, and I think Randy had broke his nose.
09:14He had blood coming down the side of his face.
09:19Randy had scrapes.
09:21Randy had scrapes, bruises, torn clothes.
09:29I was very scared to see Randy act that way.
09:33I'd never seen him act like that before.
09:36What was that?
09:37To me, seeing him with that much rage in him and beating up his best friend scared me.
09:51Because if he could do that to his best friend, what would he do to me?
09:58And the words, I'll never do it again, I learned, are lies.
10:05Because it always happens again.
10:09I wished I would have seen the devil in him sooner.
10:14When we first got together, Randy told me that he was a recovering alcoholic.
10:30I thought, okay.
10:34It seemed like he had the drinking under control.
10:39So, I didn't think anything.
10:44One day, his friends had invited us over.
10:48All of them had drinks in their hands.
10:51They kept telling him, oh, come on.
10:54One drink ain't gonna hurt ya.
10:56It's only one beer.
10:57Come on.
10:59And finally, he accepted the beer.
11:04And put it up to his mouth.
11:07I said, you shouldn't do this.
11:10You've been sober for over 10 years.
11:14Why now?
11:15Randy, what are you doing?
11:16But it went in one ear and out the other.
11:22I was very disappointed.
11:26I'm standing back in the kitchen.
11:33When he came back though, I asked him why he was drinking again.
11:39Are you okay?
11:41And he got mad that I asked him that.
11:45I can do whatever the hell I want to.
11:50And you can't stop me.
11:53But he didn't get loud.
11:55He'd never talked to me like that before.
11:58Since it was the first time he had spoken to me like that, I started thinking, oh, my God.
12:08Really?
12:09That doesn't seem...
12:13Something's wrong.
12:15As soon as we get over the threshold, his demeanor changed.
12:34His facial expressions had changed.
12:41I could tell how angry he was by the way he looked, by the way the tone of his voice was.
12:50And he starts yelling at me, telling me to never talk back to him again.
13:04And then he takes his hands, and he shoves me.
13:09And I fly, and I hit the back of the couch.
13:14I couldn't believe it.
13:17And this smile would come on his face.
13:22It was very scary.
13:25And then I get up, and start to go down the hall.
13:30And he shoves me into the walls, all the way down the hall.
13:35Get away from me!
13:38I'm crying and saying, don't hurt me.
13:41You're hurting me.
13:42Stop!
13:43You're hurting me!
13:44Your bathroom was at the end of the hallway.
13:47I was able to shut the door and lock it.
13:56He was banging on the door.
13:58Let me in!
13:59Let me in!
14:00Open this door right now!
14:02Get out of the door right now!
14:04He was scared.
14:06But if you don't open this door, I'm gonna kick the door down.
14:11he never did he went into the bathroom and he just gots up and then he went and
14:20laid down on the couch went to sleep my hope is that okay maybe this will be a
14:32one-time thing maybe he won't do it again I should have tried to run out the
14:38door I should have left him everything's or should have but didn't I wanted to
14:49believe that he was a good person because I loved him I was in love with him
14:57up till the end I believed I could change him but I was wrong
15:08when I was at church it felt safe I felt safer knowing that there was other
15:19people around and of course there was bruises under my shirts
15:27there would be bruises on my legs
15:33he made sure they were under the clothes so nobody could see and ask questions
15:42I still remember what the bruises felt like I still remember putting on a smile when I
15:59was hurting really bad because I was embarrassed I didn't want anybody to know
16:11that I was being beat I felt ashamed for people that wonder why I would stay with it
16:24if they haven't been through it they don't understand in those dark times I did an awful lot of praying
16:35to God to help me to help guide me through this I told him I needed answers I needed to know what to do
16:45I continued to go to church even though he stopped I finally began to feel freedom I finally started feeling a
17:14relief of relief of pressure relief of stress I became close friends with a man and his wife she was my best friend I could talk to her about anything they were wonderful people I started confiding in her
17:43I met her probably anywhere between six months to a year after I met them
17:50that way it gave me a chance to get that feeling of someone I could trust I finally got the courage and I showed her my bruises
18:04I wanted to show you something
18:11Deborah
18:14she said you don't deserve this
18:17you need to leave and you need to leave
18:23soon
18:25I looked at her and said you're right I do
18:30I didn't want to do
18:32I didn't want to be abused anymore I didn't want to hurt anymore I knew I had to leave him
18:37I knew I had to leave him but it wasn't going to be easy
18:51there is always a chance that somebody can come back to church and be that good person
19:00and really try hard but Randy did not he made the choice not to go back to church
19:10he made the choice not to better himself one night we were sitting in the kitchen having dinner and he told me there was something he wanted to tell me
19:24something you should know
19:25my father wasn't the only man I've killed
19:32he didn't tell me when he killed the second person and he wouldn't tell me why he killed him
19:41he didn't tell me his name he just told me that he had killed another person
19:47he didn't show any remorse
19:52Randy refused to answer any of my questions
19:57nothing
19:58he didn't tell me anything
20:01this shook me to my core
20:05I believe he was trying to scare me
20:10I believe he was trying to keep me in line and show me that he was still in control and that he still had his grips on me
20:25that if I tried to leave I would be victim number three
20:31I want to know who this man was
20:52I don't even know where he was from
20:54I know nothing about him
20:57and if I can find out or find someone who knows about this person
21:08it would give me
21:12closure
21:17his first victim was James Kelly
21:20was the man's name
21:22Randy claimed he shot him in self-defense
21:26and it was actually his then father-in-law
21:31so he shot his father-in-law
21:38and then his own father
21:42what in the hell was going through his brain
21:49that's as close to sadist as I can think of
22:02it just makes me so angry
22:04to know that the two men that he killed
22:08were both relatives
22:10which makes me think now
22:13that he could have killed me any time
22:17but back then
22:23I didn't know
22:25I just
22:32I can't understand how I could be so
22:36so stupid
22:37and so
22:38just not being able to see the picture
22:43I was afraid that if I tried to leave
23:01he would hurt me real bad
23:05I was afraid he would kill me
23:08and he was the kind of person
23:11that would look for me
23:16he would find me anywhere I went
23:19many many nights I would cry myself to sleep
23:22wondering if I was going to be dead the next day
23:25because I wouldn't know whether
23:29when he came to bed
23:34if he was going to kill me
23:37or if I would wake up the next morning
23:41one day I was talking to my best friend
23:54and explained to her what was going on
23:58and she said Deborah you have had enough
24:03you've had enough done to you
24:06and she said Deborah get out of there
24:10come stay with us for a couple days
24:13and
24:16I said yes
24:19that is when I turned around
24:24and it's Randy
24:25I have to go
24:28and the door closed behind him
24:31and I knew
24:33he was angry
24:35I saw the expression on his face
24:39I was standing there just froze in fear
24:43that's when he started yelling at me
24:46where do you get on telling people our business
24:51nobody was supposed to know what went on
24:54behind our closed doors
24:57nobody
24:58and when he started yelling at me
25:02my body tensed up
25:05and I said enough
25:08stop
25:09and I started yelling back
25:13and said it wasn't my fault
25:16I didn't do this
25:18you did
25:19I felt proud of myself
25:22I actually did something that I have never done before
25:27and that's when he said stop
25:32don't you dare go anywhere
25:34he had never left me
25:40in the middle of a fight
25:44it scared me
25:47because I had no idea what was coming
25:51and he came back out
25:55with a shotgun
26:00and aimed it point blank at my forehead
26:09it is frightening staring down the barrel of a shotgun
26:12because you don't know if he is going to pull the trigger
26:18I realized that he had shot two people before
26:21and that it wouldn't be anything new to him
26:25and I was so terrified that I couldn't move
26:31I was begging him not to shoot me
26:36I was crying
26:38I was literally bawling my head off
26:44because I didn't want to die
26:49so I would beg him
26:50and plead
26:52don't shoot me
26:53don't shoot me
26:54I won't do it again
26:56please don't shoot me
27:02it felt like forever
27:04when he let down his gun
27:13and turned away
27:16I had all kinds of emotions
27:21angry
27:22sad
27:23terrified
27:25all them emotions
27:28were going through my head
27:30all I could think about
27:33was my escape
27:35I feel
27:38he was preying on my fear
27:41preying on the anger
27:43he could kill me anytime
27:48I acted as if I was asleep
28:03but I wasn't
28:05I pretended to be asleep
28:07until Randy left for work
28:09the moment I hear the truck leave
28:14I got up and started my plans
28:19I moved as fast as I could go
28:23every time I would hear a truck or a car
28:29come even close to the house
28:32I was terrified
28:33I do believe that if he came home
28:39and found me packing
28:42he would have killed me
28:44he knew that my parents lived in Oregon
28:56but he never knew where
28:58when I called my parents
29:01and told them what had happened
29:05and what I was doing
29:08they said Deborah get out of there quick
29:10and come home
29:12when I left Arkansas
29:15that was when a lot of the tension left me
29:21I was able to breathe again
29:24I was able to relax a little bit
29:28and I felt safe
29:32the only person I told that I was leaving
29:36was my best friend
29:38and she was proud of me
29:41she said
29:42I'm glad you're going
29:45I'll miss you
29:47I decided I wanted a divorce
30:02this meant that I would have to go back to Arkansas
30:08and face him
30:12I wanted to be the one to serve him
30:15to prove to myself that I could do it
30:18to prove to myself that I don't need to be afraid of him anymore
30:22I got all the paperwork together
30:28and took a deep breath
30:33to let it all out
30:35and then I walked up to the door
30:38Randy had no idea that I was coming
30:42I did not know how he would react
30:46but I wasn't scared anymore
30:50I was ready
30:51I was ready
30:53when I knocked on the door
31:06and Randy opened it
31:08he looked at me
31:10with surprise in his eyes
31:14I think
31:16I think
31:17that he hoped
31:18I was back
31:21that things could be normal again
31:24until I handed him the divorce papers
31:27it's over
31:29it's over
31:31I handed him the papers
31:33I handed him the pen
31:34and I said sign these
31:36sign them now
31:38sign them now
31:43I believe he was very surprised
31:45I think he finally realized
31:47that I had changed
31:51his hold on me was over
31:57when the papers were signed
31:59I was thrilled
32:02and I looked at him straight in the eye
32:05and I said
32:06it's done
32:07it's over with
32:09you will never touch me again
32:11and I turned around
32:14and walked away
32:15and 30 days later
32:19I was divorced
32:20and took my maiden name back
32:24I was done
32:26I was done
32:27with him completely
32:29I could make my life
32:31the way
32:33it should have been
32:35in the first place
32:36happy
32:49the police said they wanted to talk to me
32:52about Randy Gay
32:53Randy Gay
32:54I told them
32:56that Randy and I were divorced
32:59I don't want to have anything
33:00to do with him
33:02he's out of my life now
33:07and then
33:08the police
33:10told me
33:12that Randy Gay
33:14had killed
33:16a woman
33:17a woman
33:20when I heard that Randy shot
33:23a lady named Connie
33:25I felt anger
33:29I felt sadness
33:32and I wasn't surprised at all
33:34that could have been me
33:38been me
33:39oh you've got to be kidding me
33:52that's Randy standing by a cop
33:57he should never ever be smiling
34:09he's smiling as if he's proud of what he did
34:14there's no remorse at all in that face
34:18Randy looks like he was proud that he killed Connie
34:23he looks happy about it
34:26he doesn't look as though
34:29he's ashamed of anything
34:32and his eyes
34:35his eyes are laughing
34:38they're laughing
34:40that right there makes me angry too
34:44Randy's a monster in every way shape or form
34:48killing somebody
34:50smiling about it
34:52only monsters would do that
34:55in May of 2011 investigators discovered a body in the Washington National Forest in Hot Springs
35:13the woman had been shot in the face and bound up in plastic
35:17the victim's name was Connie Snow
35:23he didn't even have the decency to bury her
35:28what kind of person can do that
35:33I did not realize at the beginning that there was that much evil in him
35:40I just couldn't see him
35:42I just couldn't see it
35:43I did not expect that much evil to be in him
35:47to me
35:48he's the devil
35:49he's a selfish
35:54arrogant
35:55bastard
35:58he needs to be ripped apart
36:02because he ripped apart
36:04because he ripped apart so many families
36:08and so many hearts
36:10he destroyed
36:11and crushed
36:17Randy has
36:19a lot more victims than just the three he put in the ground
36:23and he put it in the ground
36:25and he put it in the ground
36:48This picture to me tells me that it's Randy's father.
37:06It...
37:07That's Randy.
37:10What?
37:18He didn't used to look like that.
37:24Wow.
37:30He aged horribly.
37:38He still looks like he's got that dark side in him.
37:45I feel he's looking straight at me.
37:50And it looks like he's saying,
37:53that should have been you.
37:58What should have been you?
38:00I should have been the one that got shot.
38:05I hate this man with a passion.
38:09Even though I'm a Christian lady,
38:15it still makes me glad that he's in prison on death row.
38:21I will be the happiest woman in the world
38:23when his execution date arrives.
38:26The only way I can get closure
38:30is knowing
38:34that he's six feet under.
38:38I had a real hard time
38:48feeling happy
38:49after this
38:52because
38:52he hurt me so bad.
38:59Even though the bruises all healed,
39:02I still had that pain
39:04inside,
39:05in my heart,
39:06in my chest.
39:07It wasn't going away.
39:12Randy stole my innocence.
39:15He stole my belief in good people.
39:18I lost that belief
39:20because
39:21I couldn't trust anybody anymore.
39:26It was very scary.
39:27I knew
39:31down deep in my heart
39:33I was never
39:35going to let
39:36any man
39:37treat me like that again.
39:39Never.
39:41I deserve better than that.
39:44I am better than that.
39:45For the first time in my life,
39:54it felt fantastic
39:57making my own decisions
39:59for myself.
40:00I felt like a totally
40:04different person.
40:06I was able to smile.
40:08I was able to laugh.
40:12I was able
40:13to leave the fear behind me.
40:17It's gone.
40:18He's gone.
40:19I don't have to worry about it anymore.
40:22I am very happy now.
40:26I've found a good man
40:28who treats me with respect
40:30and decency.
40:32We've been married for 16 years.
40:35And he's been
40:37moral support
40:38because he knows
40:40everything that went on.
40:42I feel very lucky
40:45and blessed
40:47that
40:48I escaped.
40:51But then again,
40:54I feel that
40:55this
40:57has made me
40:59a better person.
41:02I've learned to be strong.
41:04and
41:05I can help
41:07other women
41:07in that position.
41:16The man that I fell in love with,
41:18I don't know
41:18what happened to him.
41:19I never in life
41:20thought that Michael
41:21was capable of doing
41:22what he had done.
41:24He's dead!
41:25I'm seeing a body!
41:27He's dead!
41:27Oh!
41:29It was horrific.
41:30It was horrific.
41:31Oh, God.
