00:01Three years ago, sporting legend Freddie Flintoff
00:04set out to prove that cricket wasn't just for the elite.
00:07It's who, isn't it?
00:09By creating a team like no other in his hometown of Preston.
00:12What has he got us wearing?
00:14Well, that's a shot.
00:15Over the course of a turbulent season.
00:17Seriously, I'm getting off of you.
00:19And an overseas cricket tour to India.
00:21We're all going to find out something about ourselves, me included.
00:24Freddie changed the lives of his unlikely team in more ways than one.
00:28You can do this, all right? Yeah.
00:30We're all here for you.
00:31Inspired by the success of the lads from Preston.
00:34Are you messing?
00:35Freddie now wants to see if he can expand the project.
00:38That's a shot.
00:39And begin a Field of Dreams cricket league.
00:41That's safe, yeah.
00:42Yeah, get a sense out of your depth.
00:43With the hope of reaching even more kids across the UK.
00:47No, no, no, no, no.
00:48Not one bit of that. It's fun of.
00:52Despite a tricky start.
00:53Oh, he's done it! He's done it!
00:55Freddie's teams in Liverpool and Blackpool
00:57are going from strength to strength.
00:59Three, two, one, woo!
01:02But his third team in Manchester
01:04is proving a much tougher challenge.
01:07This would make a break now, wouldn't it?
01:09And his hope of bringing the teams together in a successful league
01:12is now hanging in the balance.
01:14I feel really bad because it's obviously not working.
01:18How do we get it to work?
01:20That's the problem.
01:30All right, good to see you.
01:33Resley, good to see you again.
01:35How are you, bro?
01:36In Manchester, having struggled to get enough players to form a team,
01:41the boys rallied round and numbers are finally on the rise.
01:45Right, shall we go and do some cricket?
01:46Yeah, come on.
01:47But Freddie's hopes of renovating Newton Heath Cricket Club
01:51have hit a brick wall as the club's lease is still missing
01:54and fundraising can't start without it.
01:57King Dick over here thinks he can get me out.
02:00Newton Heath at the moment, but it's in a stand.
02:04The clubhouse are ground.
02:06Yo, can you guys hit the ball one time, please,
02:08or I'll have to keep going back here?
02:10The pitch is in dire need of upgrading
02:13and there are no training nets or changing rooms for the boys.
02:16The clubhouse is, ooh, not very good.
02:21It's damp on the ceiling, mould everywhere, it's just banging.
02:24Quite horrible, really.
02:26Coming in here every week, it's not the best.
02:29Honest, it's a rat shittle.
02:35Mayo's wrong!
02:36At the minute, we're just trying to keep him engaged.
02:39Yes!
02:40But you've got to be realistic, haven't you?
02:42You know, and...
02:43You're thinking, what are we doing here?
02:47They deserve better than this, don't they?
02:49So, I think we've got to look for somewhere else.
02:56Five miles up the road,
02:58Freddie's heard about another cricket club
03:00in Blakely, North Manchester.
03:04And he's hoping it might be able to help him.
03:07And the lads.
03:09I do.
03:10You're struggling with the nets?
03:12A bit heavy in at this ground at the minute.
03:13I know, I know.
03:14Catherine, nice to meet you.
03:15You all right?
03:16Welcome to our lovely, lovely home.
03:17Yeah, I don't know too much about the cricket club.
03:20Well, we've got first and second team, but we need youngsters coming through.
03:23I don't know if you know Newton East.
03:25It's a club which has got tradition, and it's been a thriving club in the past,
03:29which has gone to rack and ruin.
03:31So, the reason I'm here, I'm looking around, hoping to place my lads somewhere else.
03:38I'm just trying to find options for them, or a different option.
03:43And a cricket club that's playing that maybe needs a bit of help as well.
03:46Yeah.
03:47Well, we've definitely got the space here, haven't we?
03:49Yeah.
03:50Artificial pitch there, with the nets.
03:52Bring them here.
03:53I've got some really good kids, and I don't know, maybe if you bring your boys in,
03:56they can actually build a solid team.
03:58Could be perfect.
03:59Well, yeah, should we show them the club?
04:00Yeah.
04:01Let's see what we've got.
04:02All right.
04:03Like so many inner city cricket clubs, Blakely has suffered with a lack of funding over the years.
04:09It's now one of the last grass cricket pitches left in North Manchester.
04:14We've still got this kitchen and all sorts to go in.
04:16Right.
04:17But their members recently rallied round, and have started much-needed renovations on the clubhouse.
04:23Brand new toilets in.
04:25A group of volunteers do everything in here.
04:27They put a new roof on.
04:29This is kind of the social area.
04:31You can see the start of it, can't you?
04:32We're getting there.
04:33We're getting there.
04:34Yeah, it's taken aback, actually.
04:36They're so proud of this place, and they want it to do well, and they want it to thrive.
04:40It needs help.
04:41It needs players.
04:42I think it could be a great fit.
04:44I think we should just bring the wads down here.
04:49Well, it's really big.
04:51It's on his way.
04:53It's Fred.
04:54Fred's here now.
04:55Have you got taller?
04:56I've definitely got smaller.
04:57It's this ground.
04:58We're sinking.
04:59It's soft, isn't it?
05:00How are you?
05:01Right, just a quick one, Dad.
05:04I thank you all for coming week in, week out, and we've got a few new members as well,
05:08and we're slowly but surely getting towards the team.
05:11Now, I'm really aware of this place and what it's like at the minute, and these facilities.
05:16It's stalled.
05:17We're trying to get it better, but things haven't happened the way in which we wanted it to.
05:21So what I want to do tonight, I just want to show you somewhere else that we could potentially use.
05:26See what you think.
05:27One of the newest recruits to the expanding team is 16-year-old Miles, who's keen to find out a bit more about Freddie.
05:42Is your house by chance on Google?
05:45Top-year Freddie Vliptoff splashes out millions to buy a pal luxury mansion.
05:51You shouldn't believe everything you read.
05:54Your bank account is looking nice!
05:57Freddie Vliptoff makes three mills profit on a house he's never lived in.
06:04Is that why you've not been here? Because you've been dodging the tax mark?
06:07What are you kicking at, you?
06:11Does the fact you have money make you happy?
06:14People make you happy.
06:16What's the sound got on this bus and they'll start laughing?
06:19What are you doing?
06:24Huh?
06:26Here we go.
06:27Hiya, you all right?
06:28Have a walk down lads, see what you think.
06:32It's nice, you know lads.
06:33It is good innit?
06:35So much better.
06:36Big improvement from the other one.
06:38So I'm thinking now for you lads, this club here, as it is now, I think great, but these have got big ambition for it and they're going to do it up a bit more.
06:47The other thing is, you've got five or six lads, summer age, so I was thinking between us, we get together, organise a session and we can start properly.
06:56Yeah.
06:57What do you reckon?
06:58Nah, yeah, we're staying here.
06:59Are you happy with it?
07:00Yeah.
07:01Do you have a look inside?
07:02Yes.
07:03Let's get kettle on, shall we?
07:05The building's got lights in it, there's a batting net, there's actual covers for the greens.
07:11Yeah, it's mega compared.
07:12What's in there?
07:13Showers.
07:14Showers.
07:15I think this new cricket place is really good.
07:18I'm looking forward to be here and hopefully we can get a team up and running and get some games going.
07:24It makes the emotions about it, but look at them now.
07:28They're out on the ground, they're running round and they want to come back.
07:31So, I'm quietly optimistic.
07:37With all his teams now fully up and running, Freddie's looking to secure a long-term future for his league of dreams.
07:45Yeah, there's a lot of parts to this, isn't there?
07:48The thing in the back of your head is saying, I'm sucking this on and I've got, like, this responsibility to prove that it works.
07:58They're going to have an impact on so many lives.
08:02So, I think we've got to look at how we're going to widen it and how we're going to show the strain a little bit.
08:12It's not a case of stepping back, it's like bringing more people in.
08:15There you go, quick.
08:19Got a new coach today, guys.
08:20I feel like I'm really recognising.
08:22Freddie spotted coaching potential in Eli, one of the lads from his first Field of Dreams team, and has asked him to help train the girls.
08:31Two years ago, I was just messing about, but being a part of a team like that, it's something that I probably remember for the rest of my life, you know.
08:38I sort of realised that I want a coach.
08:41He's from season one. Is he?
08:43Or two. No, he went to India.
08:45Was he the one who's actually from Batboy?
08:47No.
08:48I think it's massively important to give other kids the opportunity, give it to as many as possible, pass the baton on to the next generation of young people.
08:59I wonder how he's going to feel about coaching a women's team.
09:04But there's a problem before Eli's first session has even started.
09:08It's been a big crash on the motorway.
09:12Me and Kate will be there in like about 20 minutes.
09:15Right.
09:16Why don't you do like a little warm-up with them?
09:17Yeah.
09:18And hopefully me and Kate will be there then and we'll get going with the cricket.
09:21Right, I'll see you soon.
09:23I'll see you in ten.
09:24Right.
09:25Yeah, see ya.
09:26Right.
09:27So I did it with the lads, but they were the lads, weren't they? So it's a bit different. These are completely different.
09:38Very nervous, but I give it a go.
09:43Obviously we're all from Blackpool, so hopefully they don't turn on me.
09:46Girls!
09:51Do you want to come in?
09:57Saying?
09:58Someone don't scare me.
10:00Right.
10:01Right, so obviously, I mean like...
10:02You went to India, didn't you?
10:03Yeah.
10:04I went to India.
10:06And whilst I was there, I found out that I enjoy coaching and stuff.
10:09It's something I like doing.
10:11And I've got a chance to come and do something with you lot.
10:14I just want to do.
10:15What do you want us to do?
10:16Ted!
10:17Woo!
10:18No.
10:19Is it going to throw the ball around to each other?
10:21Once you've made five catches, is it going to try and hit the stumps?
10:26Shit me.
10:27Sideways.
10:30Horrendous.
10:32Yes, go!
10:33I think I'm behind you, I'm behind you, I'm behind you, I'm behind you.
10:35I'm behind you.
10:36So when Kate and Kyle get here, are you going or not staying?
10:40I don't know.
10:41I don't know what to do after this, so I'll just sit and lie.
10:43Well done.
10:44If you want to grab a drink or something, you can grab a drink.
10:47I'm tired.
10:48Watch it!
10:49Do what you want.
10:51They can do what they want.
10:52We're lads, you know what you're going to get.
10:54I can take grief off a lad.
10:55I'll just sit there.
10:56When a girl starts giving you rubbish like.
10:59When you bowl, just ease up, because I can tell you, you're quite lit, aren't you?
11:04I don't know what that means, bro.
11:06Ease yourself up when you bowl.
11:08That's all I'm going to say.
11:11Young leader.
11:12Right, just because I'm more successful than you at 65, I think.
11:15What school did you go?
11:16None.
11:17I've left school, you tip.
11:18I'm going to go.
11:19Right, what are you trying to say?
11:20Why are you trying to throw shade?
11:21Throw shade.
11:22Yeah.
11:23What are you on about?
11:24Shut up.
11:25Shut up.
11:26He's trying to beef me again.
11:28He tried to wind me up.
11:33Girls are good at doing that.
11:34My child.
11:35Hey, thank the f***** for this.
11:36I'm sorry I'm late.
11:38No, no, no.
11:39I'm so happy you're here.
11:41What do you think they're going to be like?
11:42I thought they might be shy or something, you know.
11:44Can anybody give me a little bit of a insult?
11:46I know?
11:47Yeah, yeah.
11:48Man, you're crazy.
11:49It's a fair match.
11:50Yeah, that's a fair match.
11:51I know?
11:52Man, he's the same.
11:53Can anybody give Eli any feedback from being here tonight?
11:58You need to speak louder. Yeah. Yeah.
12:01Be more confident. Yeah.
12:03Make eye contact with somebody when you're telling them advice.
12:06Right. OK.
12:09They were gunning for you, weren't they? Yeah.
12:11I felt bullied. I felt like...
12:14Are they picking on you? Yeah.
12:16I got some grief. They're just mad at them, aren't they?
12:19I can't even explain it. They actually are like a different breed.
12:3050 miles away at the Manchester boys' new cricket club,
12:34Freddie's also called on another of his Preston lads...
12:36Thanks for coming. ...to join his team of coaches.
12:40You all right? Yeah, I'm good, thank you.
12:42What are you going to say? Just school stuff.
12:45After his success with the team,
12:47Adnan got a scholarship at a private boarding school
12:50and still has ambitions to be a professional cricketer.
12:53It's my last year.
12:55I'm trying to get into a good university.
12:57That's my B plan.
12:59You're going to get the grades for them, won't you?
13:01Yeah, yeah.
13:02That's why I have to work hard in terms of cricket and studies as well.
13:05OK. So it's very important to you.
13:07You've got it all figured out. Hopefully.
13:09So you're going to help me with these last year? Yep.
13:11That it comes through, go over. Yeah.
13:14He knows what we're trying to do and he's been a part of it.
13:17So he can then pass on that knowledge,
13:19say how it's helped him through the past three years.
13:22As well as a proper pitch to train on,
13:25the team have also inherited some new players.
13:28I'm Fred, nice to meet you. What's your honour?
13:30Gunchan. Gunchan.
13:31Hi, nice to meet you.
13:33Nice to meet you. Good to meet you.
13:34My name's Gophers. What's yours?
13:36I'm Amir. How are you?
13:37Yeah, I'm good. Is it all right if you can work with us?
13:39I can get to know you.
13:40Yeah, sure.
13:41I'll just come in a second.
13:42We've got some special help today.
13:44Adnan's joining us.
13:45He's decent at cricket.
13:47He's got plenty to talk about.
13:48You can't shut him up once he starts.
13:50All right, so pick his brain, speak to him,
13:52and he's going to help out with the coaching.
13:54To be part of Field of Dream, it was great.
13:56Like, it was massive in my life.
13:59And I'm happy, I'm so happy to help with him
14:01and try to share those experiences that we gain from Freddie and Kyle.
14:07Oh, I missed my best.
14:09Ah, shit!
14:11Yeah.
14:12Don't forget that.
14:13OK, we stop, we stop here.
14:15Now we're going to do bowling, OK?
14:17The way we started, it was the same, yeah.
14:20What's that?
14:21You're throwing.
14:22Keep going.
14:23When you bowl, complete your action.
14:25Like, can you see me there?
14:26Yeah.
14:27So, I completed it.
14:28Yeah?
14:29Keep going.
14:30Good, good.
14:31Most of us didn't know anything about cricket,
14:33but after two years, like, we're smashing it.
14:36Hopefully they are the same and they work hard
14:38and hopefully they do something that make us proud.
14:43Shot!
14:45It's not something small now.
14:46It's a massive project.
14:48He's dealing with three teams, like, oh, my gosh.
14:51But whenever Freddie wants me, I will be there and try to help.
14:55Yeah!
14:56It's really good.
14:57It's been good.
14:58It's heartening looking forward.
15:00It just makes you think that actually we've made the right decision by coming here.
15:03Let's get all this kit together.
15:06So hopefully this might work.
15:08Let's go.
15:09Let's go.
15:10Let's go.
15:11Let's go.
15:12Let's go.
15:13Despite poor attendance and a lack of enthusiasm at the beginning.
15:17Right.
15:18Let's have two people on each cone.
15:20The bootle boys have started to turn a corner.
15:24Whoever's on that side has to back their stumps up.
15:27The thing that always worries me with bootle is the behaviour.
15:32But I actually feel now like they're starting to behave a bit better.
15:37You can see they're actually, you know, becoming friends between themselves.
15:43You don't feel like you're shouting at them all the time.
15:45So it's actually, you know, it feels like it's getting quite rewarding now.
15:49Come on, boys.
15:50You've got this.
15:52I think over time, cricket's become enjoyable.
15:55Straight into playing, boys.
15:56Why are you shaking?
15:57Clara, don't you play?
15:59You just get along so well because you're all there for the same thing.
16:03We all want to push each other to be better than what we can be.
16:08Oh, no, you didn't play.
16:09It makes me feel excited to see how far we can go as a group.
16:14Come in, Stevie.
16:17Oh, yes.
16:18Almost took your head off.
16:19I'm starting to get more appreciative of it.
16:22You get involved with your team, you have a laugh and you just learn.
16:25Watch the ball.
16:28Yes, Stevie.
16:29Good.
16:30People stereotype cricket as a posh sport.
16:33But I think it's just for anyone.
16:37And again.
16:38Are you practising?
16:40No.
16:41You're not trying to be cool about it, haven't you?
16:43You've got an infectious personality and they're full of fun and mischief at the same time.
16:50And you just want to temper it and you just want to shape it and channel it into the right areas.
16:56That's coaching, that is.
16:57A lot of coaches, they get it wrong, I think.
17:01They want the big jobs.
17:02They want the jobs with the kudos and they want to work with the best players.
17:05That's easy.
17:06This is where you learn about yourself as well.
17:19Right, everyone good?
17:20Right, Eli?
17:21You look nervous, Eli.
17:22You look nervous, Eli.
17:23No, I'm good, eh?
17:24I'm telling you, I'm done with it.
17:25I'm done with it.
17:27Up the coast in Blackpool, Freddie's girls team is also going from strength to strength.
17:32Right, shall we get cracking?
17:34When Maddie first turned up to training, having grown up in care, she struggled to trust the group.
17:39How are you?
17:40But tonight, she's introducing Cody to the rest of the team.
17:45You can play if you want.
17:49Oh, young love.
17:51We are official.
17:54Come on, come on Maddie.
17:56How would I describe Maddie?
17:58She's just a big bowl of energy and she's brought a spark out in me.
18:04I think she struggles to trust a lot of people because she's been through
18:09not what every person has been through and she's been hurt so many times.
18:16What?
18:18But I think for me, being patient with her and trusting her, that's gaining trust with her for me.
18:26And she believes I'm going to stay and I'm not just like, coming and going.
18:31But she's just, she's amazing to be honest.
18:35Yes.
18:37Yes.
18:39Oh, here we go, not wrong with that.
18:42As well as gaining a new team mate, the girls are embracing training with a new found confidence.
18:47Yes, there we go, that's better.
18:49It's a nice feeling about the place, isn't it?
18:51Yeah, Maddie, she's turned up with a girlfriend, Cody, who seems lovely actually.
18:55She's so happy, isn't she, with her.
18:56She just keeps smiling at her.
18:59You ready?
19:03That's good.
19:05Eli's over there doing catches with Molly and she's trying to catch him.
19:08You know, he's managed to capture her in an hour.
19:12I haven't done in months.
19:14So that's great, that is.
19:16Who's next?
19:17Come on, Cody, are you going?
19:18Come on then.
19:26You know, like, you have love at first sight.
19:28That's what it was like it was.
19:30We just clicked, we just got on, we just like, it was like a match made in heaven.
19:37Yes!
19:39That was good.
19:41You didn't tell me she was a secret cricketer.
19:44I'm like, oh!
19:46Maddie sometimes can be, you know, quite hard work at these sessions,
19:51but tonight having a girlfriend here, Cody, saw a different side to Maddie.
19:55Laughing, joking, not once did we have to tell her to behave.
19:58Well done tonight, girls.
20:00With this club now, I'd love to see this place full of people playing cricket.
20:04And we've started something off so far, but I think we can take it a hell of a lot further.
20:07But for that, I need your help, I really do.
20:10So if you've got mates or anybody you can think of who'd come down and join us on practice sessions.
20:15Perfect.
20:17Exactly, you've done well tonight.
20:19My arm hurt.
20:21Brilliant for the first time, you did so well.
20:23Thanks for coming.
20:24You coming back?
20:25Yes, she is.
20:27Brilliant, you've never been as happy, thank you.
20:29Right, let's tidy the bag off.
20:31Put your kit away, thank you so much.
20:33You've got to start smiling, you mad, have you?
20:35Look at you.
20:37This is very new, so new.
20:39God please!
20:41I didn't really expect to be doing any cricket tonight and I'm definitely going to get dragged back here and be put on the pitch again.
20:49It was great.
20:51This is what happens when you fall in love, are we?
20:53As a team, everyone's really comfortable with each other now.
20:56I think Cody has settled really well into the team, so I do think that the numbers will keep growing.
21:04We're getting there now. No seems to be enjoying it. I'm in good shape. I'm really excited about this.
21:10But I think what we want to do, we want to have a club and a pitch that match their enthusiasm.
21:18Despite the girls throwing everything into their team, they are still training with run-down facilities.
21:24The dilapidated nets and outdated clubhouse need upgrading if Freddy's to achieve his dream of making this a hub for girls' cricket in the North West.
21:34Yeah, I'm just outside Blackpool Council, trying to get some money, I suppose.
21:46I just have to sell them a dream, aren't I?
21:49Hopefully they'll see it, what we're trying to do, and they want to get involved.
21:52Hi, Lyn, how are you?
21:55A couple of years ago now, I did a project in Preston where I got some lads playing cricket who wouldn't have the chance of playing.
22:02So as a step on from that, I'm now doing a girls' team in Blackpool at South Shore Cricket Club.
22:08I want to make that like a hotbed of girls' cricket in Blackpool.
22:12It needs to do enough of it.
22:15Yeah.
22:16Is there a particular ask of us, you know, or is it just a general...
22:22Well, I'd like some money, to be honest.
22:25But I appreciate that everyone must come through these doors asking for money.
22:29What's the priority that you think that you really need to get done down there, you know, to make this kind of...
22:35I think they need practice facilities, first and foremost.
22:38You know, there's other things like the clubhouse could be more welcoming, the ground could be better.
22:43We do get it.
22:45And it is something we really want to, you know, encourage and have for all of our young girls across the town.
22:50But we will need to go and look at our finances and see what we say about.
22:54I understand that, yeah.
22:55Any help you can be amazing.
22:57I don't know.
22:58Pick a cheque up on the way out.
23:01No, thank you so much.
23:02Nice to meet you.
23:03I appreciate that.
23:04Thank you very much.
23:05It's not easy, is it?
23:06You go ahead and they're begging and there's so many things they want to spend the money on.
23:10I've got the sense that they really want to help.
23:13I think, at this stage, anything, I'll take anything off.
23:20What are you doing if I just catch it in my mouth now?
23:25Best shot ever.
23:26Back in Manchester, building work has restarted to finish the clubhouse renovations.
23:31Thank you so much for coming down and helping us out.
23:34And Freddie wants to see if the boys are committed enough to dedicate a day of hard graft to their new home.
23:40We'll get cracking.
23:42I don't know how they're doing this without getting paid, I'll be real, like.
23:45Are that between you?
23:46Yeah, yeah.
23:47It's a tight fit.
23:48I would ask for some...
23:49Ka-ching, ka-ching.
23:53Oh, shit, that's sick.
23:58That's...
24:01It's a nice tap, innit?
24:02Yeah.
24:03Make our lovely bruce.
24:04These lads gives us a home, like.
24:07I wanted to come and help and come and show what I can do.
24:11Mmm.
24:17You can enjoy that nice, yeah?
24:18Mmm, it's nice, yeah.
24:22Dom!
24:23What are you going to do when you're all about?
24:24No clue, bro.
24:27Nah.
24:28Did you pass your GCSEs?
24:30Erm, I got a Grade 3 English and I got a U in maths, but I didn't...
24:35I walked out my maths.
24:36You walked out in maths, yeah?
24:37Mmm.
24:38So, like, I do regret doing that.
24:41I think...
24:42I think I should have touched school more serious, so, like.
24:46I've never been to a mainstream school, like.
24:48I think that's due to, like, my needs, innit?
24:50Like, I have ADHD and then anxiety.
24:55So, I got kits out of nursery early,
24:58so I had to start a non-mainstream before year one.
25:03After nursery, primary was just not a mainstream, innit?
25:06And then I went to high school.
25:08High school wasn't a mainstream.
25:10Obviously, like, from the teacher's perspective, it's disruptive, innit?
25:13Disruptive, not listening, stuff like that.
25:16But, like, for me, it's just...
25:18I never really could, like, listen.
25:21College, for me, was, like, the one time, like,
25:23I felt like I could be normal.
25:25Because, like, I remember people used to ask me, like,
25:27oh, what school do you go to?
25:28I used to be like, don't worry, innit?
25:30Like, cos I felt like I'll get looked at differently
25:33or, like, judged in a certain way.
25:35Yeah.
25:36I would have always, like...
25:37That was my dream, even from, like, primary.
25:39I was always, like, wanting to go to a mainstream.
25:42I just wanted to feel normal, innit?
25:43I guess you could say.
25:44Even though, like, that's normal, I guess.
25:47I just wanted to, like, be normal, like,
25:49do what everyone else is doing.
25:52Oh!
25:53As I got older, my anxiety got worse.
25:59I'd be real, there was a point where, like,
26:01I didn't even leave my house.
26:02And it was only till recently I realised, like,
26:06I need to get over this.
26:08And that's why I want to give cricket a go right now.
26:20You got a snettel on your foot, Tom?
26:21No, don't worry.
26:26It felt good giving them something, like, you know,
26:28putting, actually, effort into making the establishment
26:30looking better.
26:34Just to give back to the community.
26:40I think Freddie will be very proud with what we've done.
26:44Hopefully he puts a little smile on his face.
26:52At Freddie's next training session with the boys,
26:54he's keen to see their handiwork for himself.
26:57You all right?
26:59Look at that.
27:00That's a dude.
27:01I like that.
27:02I'm jealous.
27:03I'm kind, good.
27:04Yeah, I'm all good, have you?
27:05Nice to see you, man.
27:06Yeah, you're good.
27:07I like that.
27:08You like that?
27:09I do like that.
27:10I'm all right.
27:11Thanks for yourself, how are you?
27:12You all good?
27:13Come and have a look.
27:14Come and talk to me for your work, Freddie,
27:15what you've been doing.
27:16Right, so we did the work talks, we did the toweling.
27:18Colin, probably the builder.
27:19We've been doing electrics as well, I hope not.
27:22No, no.
27:23But I did all this bit here.
27:25When I got to there, I got more tiptoes than I need.
27:27Good job, that.
27:28Good work, isn't it?
27:29Yeah, yeah.
27:30But we did good, we did good.
27:31Are you impressed with what the lads have done then?
27:32Really am, yeah?
27:34Do some cricket, what do you reckon?
27:36Let's see how far them big arms can hit you.
27:38Right, knock that off.
27:39And just a quick one before we start lads.
27:41Thank you so much for your efforts.
27:42I think this place is really taking shape now.
27:44What I'd like in the very near future,
27:46I'd like to have your first game.
27:48So when we're practising now,
27:50let's start thinking about that first game.
27:52Come on, boys, let's have some energy now, eh?
27:54Well, let's go, let's go, let's go!
27:56These lads are new to it all, aren't they?
27:59They're very, very basic in their knowledge of cricket.
28:03That.
28:05That.
28:06And we just need to throw them in there,
28:08they keep asking for a game, let's give them one.
28:10Yes, Presley!
28:12Associates, Pres!
28:13Last year we didn't have a team, now we do.
28:18I mean, last year we didn't have a cricket club, now we do.
28:21But I'm feeling a bit nervous.
28:24Pick your batter up.
28:25Yeah.
28:26Yeah, yeah, perfect, I like that.
28:27Nice.
28:28I think the tricky part for these lads is
28:30it's going to be matching them against the right opposition.
28:32You know, I want them to play and I want them to enjoy it.
28:34I don't want a side turning off here.
28:36We're just going to hammer them.
28:38I want to be competitive.
28:40I don't want to dent their confidence neither.
28:42Good job.
28:43Now we're a six up.
28:45All right, man.
28:54Is there any more chairs?
28:56We've got plant pots in the way.
28:58Hard to do you this, Bill.
29:00A few weeks later, the day of the Manchester boys' first ever match
29:04has finally arrived.
29:06Look at this.
29:07This is nice, isn't it?
29:08We've got a game today, haven't we?
29:10Work has been completed on the clubhouse
29:12and family and friends have been invited to come and watch.
29:16Today's a day.
29:17For years, the cricket club has been ran down
29:20and now it's like, it's actually looking good, you know what I mean?
29:23Like, we've actually put effort into this.
29:25Honestly, I've been waiting for this day for a very long time.
29:29We've overcome a lot of hurdles as a team
29:31and it's all led to this day.
29:34This is our home.
29:35All my family's coming
29:36and I just want to show them how far I've come.
29:39Everything looks perfect, really, doesn't it?
29:41In the clubhouse, it's all been renovated.
29:43They've got furniture in there, they've got a bar.
29:45It's probably more important to be a bigger day for the lads.
29:47Come in, lads, come in, come in.
29:49I know you've all been desperate to play your first game
29:52and that day has come today.
29:53Throw yourselves into it.
29:54Let's have some fun today, let's enjoy playing.
29:56But firstly, we've got the kit.
29:59Pick yourselves some kit, some boots
30:01and then we'll start looking like a team.
30:03What are you fishing at?
30:04Yo!
30:06Oh, looking sharp there, Dom.
30:10You look great. Feel good?
30:12Yeah, yeah.
30:13Yeah?
30:14I think we look like we're on a stag debate or something.
30:16I think I'm racking with me personally.
30:18I feel like I look nice, I'm posh, well collected.
30:23Do I have this on the wrong way?
30:25Go ahead.
30:27For the boys' first game,
30:29Freddie's picked opponents who are also keen
30:31to put their hard work at training to the test.
30:34Right, are we ready for the match?
30:36Yeah.
30:37Come on then.
30:38There we go.
30:39Here come the girls.
30:42Oh, no.
30:43This is ridiculous, sis.
30:46Ultimately, they're all in the same boat.
30:49It doesn't matter if the boys, girls, the novices at cricket.
30:52So, hopefully, there'll be some enthusiasm.
30:55It'll rub off on each other.
30:57You all right?
30:58You ready to get smashed?
30:59Hey!
31:00Oh, my God.
31:01We're not happy with you.
31:02How many of them play cricket for?
31:05Same time as you, probably.
31:07Yeah, but, like, are you good, you reckon?
31:08Better than you.
31:09I personally really want to beat them because they're lads.
31:13Come on, boys!
31:14Come on, guys.
31:15Do you know what I mean?
31:16I've played with them my whole life.
31:17It'll be nice to be on the other side this time
31:20with people like me, like my own age.
31:23I'm not just playing with the lads this time,
31:25so I'm really excited.
31:28Both teams have 12 overs to score as many runs as they can,
31:32and having won the toss, the girls are fielding first.
31:36You need to go over that way.
31:38OK, I've got this, brother.
31:40Come on!
31:42The last time the girls played a match,
31:44some of the teams struggled with nerves,
31:47so today is a chance for them to put that behind them.
31:50Ready?
31:51There you go.
31:53Wonderful first ball.
31:58Shot.
32:00What a start.
32:02Come on, the boys.
32:03Wazzup!
32:05But despite playing in their first ever match,
32:07the boys are quickly starting to get runs on the scoreboard.
32:13Shot!
32:14Well, it's me now, isn't it?
32:16Can I go?
32:18Next to bowl is 16-year-old Madison.
32:21I hope they score as well.
32:22who's been part of the team from the very beginning.
32:24Sorry!
32:25It's all right.
32:26I can't.
32:27Well...
32:28Maddie, you're OK?
32:29Don't worry!
32:30Easy, mad.
32:32Oh, she's gutted, man.
32:34But the pressure of bowling her first over...
32:36Come on, Maddie!
32:37..is affecting her performance.
32:42It's all right, Maddie, don't worry!
32:43Maddie, you're OK? Don't worry!
32:44Oh, no.
32:47Oh, she's well disappointed.
32:50You're going mad!
32:52Maddie, stop stressing!
32:53You've got it!
32:56Sorry!
32:57Why?
33:01She crying?
33:03I think so, yeah.
33:04Oh, bless her.
33:05I mean, it's hard, isn't it?
33:06Pressure, ma'am.
33:11Maddie, you're doing great.
33:12You're trying, all right?
33:14Don't worry about it.
33:15No-one's judging.
33:16Hey, you did amazing!
33:17You did amazing!
33:18Well done.
33:19I'm proud of you.
33:20Maddie, you're trying, and that's all that matters.
33:22You've not thrown the ball down when you've got it wrong,
33:24which is amazing.
33:26And you kept going.
33:27Resilient in front of all these people.
33:28Come on, Maddie!
33:29Everyone clap for her.
33:30Come on.
33:31Be nice.
33:32Don't, look, don't think about them.
33:33I've got two more today.
33:37Come on, Maddie!
33:40Come on, Maddie!
33:41Thank you, thank you, guys.
33:42Sorry!
33:43Come on, Maddie!
33:44Working in black belt!
33:45Come on, Maddie!
33:47Well done!
33:48Yes, Maddie!
33:49Maddie's all right!
33:50That's it.
33:52Well done.
33:53Come on, Maddie!
33:55Come out well there, Maddie.
33:57Maddie, well done.
33:58I'm proud of you.
33:59You did amazing.
34:00Come on, Tilly!
34:01Yeah, push right back.
34:03Next up to ball is 16-year-old Matilda.
34:06One of the few girls on the team who has played cricket before.
34:09Shot.
34:10But who has never had the opportunity to play for a girls team.
34:13Shot!
34:14What's her name?
34:15Matilda.
34:16Nice, isn't it?
34:17You got this, yeah?
34:20Why are you scouting them, bro?
34:21I'm not scouting that.
34:22She's just my favourite out of all of them.
34:24She can ball.
34:26Touch!
34:27Touch!
34:28Whoa!
34:29Look here!
34:31Out!
34:32Someone's got a wicket.
34:33Yeah!
34:3432 for one and a five, is it?
34:35Doing all right, aren't you?
34:36Mo!
34:37Oh, Molly's on.
34:40Yes, Mo!
34:42Yes!
34:43Despite a shaky start, the girls are rallying round and the wickets are starting to fall.
34:49Are you next in, Presley?
34:52Next into bat is the boys' captain, 17-year-old Presley.
34:56Come on!
34:57Come on, my D!
34:58Same again!
34:59Oh!
35:00Oh!
35:01Oh!
35:02Oh!
35:03Oh!
35:04Oh!
35:05Oh!
35:06Oh, Presley.
35:07It's it, Presley!
35:08Oh!
35:09Yes!
35:10Oh!
35:11Yes!
35:12Oh!
35:13Yes!
35:14Yes!
35:15Yes!
35:16Fair dues, man.
35:17I've lost to a girl in a few minutes.
35:20Come on, Cody!
35:22Yes, my alls!
35:23Run!
35:24Fast and fast!
35:25Oh, my alls!
35:26Run!
35:27Faster!
35:28Oh, my alls!
35:29Go on!
35:30Yes, lad!
35:31Cody!
35:32Yes!
35:33Well done, Cody!
35:36Got a boundary.
35:37Well done, lads and Cody!
35:38That's it.
35:39That's it.
35:40After an impressive first innings, the boys have scored a total of 84 runs.
35:46Well done, girls!
35:47Well done!
35:48That's it!
35:49Well done, boys!
35:50Batters, you ready?
35:51Let's go, guys!
35:54Let's go, guys!
35:55Needing 85 runs to win, Maddison and Summer are first in to bat.
36:01Presley is going for first hover.
36:03You ready, Madd?
36:04The hard thing is, is who's going to win this game?
36:07Come on, boys!
36:08Come on, Maddy!
36:12I think it'd be great for the girls, because they've played one game already, and they got
36:15beat, and they're desperate to win.
36:17But it's all the boys, you know, this is their first game of cricket.
36:21And again, Presley!
36:26Oh, Mads!
36:28Presley, man!
36:29With just his second ball, Presley's managed to get Maddison out.
36:33No!
36:34Come on, boys!
36:35Come on, boys!
36:36Is that you?
36:37That's me, man!
36:38I'm so embarrassed.
36:40I've got out first, boy, in front of 60,000 people.
36:43Nothing about that.
36:44That is embarrassing.
36:45Walking off on your own.
36:46You get a big cheer when you go out.
36:47Everybody's thinking of what's going to happen.
36:49You get out first, boy, you get booed off.
36:51I tell you what, you've had it easy, girl.
36:53Don't you worry about that.
36:54Miles, I don't think these are winning.
36:56Oh, so I'm going to get hokey.
36:58Go on, Till!
37:03There we go.
37:04Get it, get it!
37:05Oh, shit!
37:06Despite a slow start...
37:07Run!
37:08..with Katie and Matilda now at the crease,
37:11the girls are starting to close in on the boys.
37:15Go!
37:16Nice shot!
37:17Go on, Till!
37:18Well done, Till.
37:19Thanks.
37:21She's well hard to get out.
37:24Shot!
37:25OK!
37:26You've done well.
37:29Come on, boys!
37:30Get you in the game!
37:31It's all right, Paul, you got that.
37:33Go on, Matty!
37:34Go on, Matty!
37:35With a score of 77,
37:37the girls need just eight more runs to win the match.
37:40There's one more over left, so...
37:43Come on, lads, one more!
37:45Now this is a drama.
37:48We've got it, we've got it, we've got it.
37:49Well, it's actually close, you know.
37:51There you go, Chance.
37:54Nice!
37:55Show up, Matty!
37:56Yes, Matty!
37:57Oh, my God, oh, my God!
37:59Everyone up!
38:00Come on, Mila!
38:03Yes, Mila!
38:05Yes, Mila!
38:07Four runs!
38:08What?
38:09Yes, Mila!
38:10Oh, my God!
38:11That was an amazing shot!
38:12Two to tie.
38:14No, I'm just so excited!
38:15Two to tie, yeah.
38:16Two.
38:17Oh!
38:19This is horrible, this, mate.
38:20Oh, my word.
38:25Run!
38:26Go wide!
38:27Come on!
38:28Come on!
38:29With another run on the board,
38:30the girls now need just one more to equal the boys' score.
38:34Last ball.
38:36I'm shaking!
38:37Come on!
38:38Come on!
38:39Oh, my God!
38:40Oh, my God!
38:41Yes!
38:42Yes!
38:43Yes!
38:44Yes!
38:45Yes!
38:46Yes!
38:47Yes!
38:48Yes!
38:49Yes!
38:50Yes!
38:51Yes!
38:52That is 84.
38:53the game has ended in a draw.
38:55Captain! Good game, that.
38:57Well done, love, to all yours.
38:59Thank you. You're not really scared of you.
39:01I am. All of you.
39:03We did it! We didn't lose!
39:05Quite proud of myself.
39:07Ah!
39:09I didn't hit my wickets either this time.
39:11Well played. Go ball.
39:13Just the adrenaline of, like, the scores going up.
39:16I was actually getting excited for them, and I'm not even on their team.
39:19You guys played amazing, you guys played amazing.
39:21I'm actually so, like, happy and proud of myself that I've done this.
39:24We're all champions at the end of the day, aren't we?
39:26We're all champions.
39:27Presley, I just want to say well played, isn't it?
39:29Well done. Well played. Well bowled.
39:31A draw is better than a lose, in my opinion,
39:35and I feel like it just shows that boys and girls can be equal in cricket,
39:38and there is nothing wrong with that.
39:40And I feel like, for the first time in my life,
39:42I've actually seen that happen.
39:43Like, genuinely, the way that the boys treated me today
39:46was better than I've ever been treated on a cricket pitch in my life.
39:49And it actually does make me pretty emotional,
39:51because it's so nice to be treated like that
39:53after getting the grief for all the years
39:55and seeing them encourage you
39:56and just being genuinely nice.
39:58Well done. Well done. Well done, Presley.
40:01It's OK, mate.
40:02Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Honestly.
40:05At least we drove and not lost.
40:08When we were at Newton Heath and we only had three to four people,
40:12I thought, that's it. That's it.
40:14But we've got a good team with us,
40:17and I didn't know this was going to happen.
40:20Honestly, I feel like I'm dreaming.
40:21Now and then I pinch myself to see if I'm asleep.
40:24Honestly, it's been amazing,
40:25and I'm speechless of how well it's actually gone.
40:29Oh, shit! Don't drop it!
40:41Matilda, don't break your nails.
40:43Oh, this is a proper workout.
40:48Back in Blackpool, Freddie's had good news from the council.
40:52They've agreed to fund work on the clubhouse
40:55to completely update the interior.
40:59And outside, word has spread,
41:02and a sports company have stepped in
41:04to install state-of-the-art nets.
41:07It's starting to take shape a little bit now, isn't it?
41:09I think what they're going to do is going to make a big difference.
41:11The nets at the back is going to be huge for this club,
41:14but then also just doing something inside there
41:16where these girls have come down,
41:18be proud of it, enjoy it, and want to spend time.
41:21Because it's all very well,
41:23we've got, you know, a group of, like, 10, 11 girls,
41:26but we need this club to be bigger and be sustainable.
41:31And if we can turn 10 to 20 and then 20 to 40,
41:34all of a sudden we've got a cricket club that's thriving.
41:40New facilities are one thing,
41:42but to help secure the future of the club,
41:44Freddie needs the next generation of players
41:46to be enthused by cricket.
41:49Some kids here for you.
41:50This is actually embarrassing.
41:52You can't be swearing in here.
41:53I know.
41:54It's a primary school.
41:55So Kyle's roped in Molly, Summer and Maddie...
41:58Cheers, my dear.
41:59..to help run a cricket taster session
42:01at a local primary school.
42:03The really important thing about today is trying to showcase, you know,
42:08what cricket is and what it's about.
42:10No club survives without, you know, junior teams.
42:13So we need to, like, capture their imagination from a young age
42:17and hopefully get them down to South Shore, you know,
42:20and become part of the club.
42:22Right, what ideas have you got for this session?
42:24Just shut them down and leave them.
42:27Really, really nervous, actually, can't lie.
42:30Never done it.
42:31I need to watch my language and everything.
42:33It's going to go horribly wrong.
42:35So when they all come out, what are we going to do with them?
42:38They're going to have to think this is bloody rounders.
42:41But you have to explain to them it's cricket.
42:44I think they're a bit under-prepared.
42:46I think they think they're just going to wing it
42:48and when you're with, like, eight, nine, ten-year-olds, it's full on.
42:51I want to be a kid.
42:55Got faith in them, but...
42:57I think they're taking it very lightly.
43:00I think blagging a cricket session's quite hard.
43:03You need to give it some thought.
43:04Oh, here they are anyway now.
43:06Shit, they're coming down quick.
43:08So, we'll soon see.
43:12Oh, my f***ing God!
43:13Can I come up now?
43:14Oh, gosh.
43:15No swearing.
43:16Maddy, Summer and Molly have now got an hour
43:18to teach 29 young girls how to play cricket.
43:23Oh, my God.
43:24But despite Kyle's suggestion, they haven't done any prep.
43:27Why is there so many of them?
43:30Minions!
43:31Tonight!
43:32We see on the moon!
43:36Right, right.
43:37So, hello.
43:38I'm Maddy.
43:39Nice to meet you, Wall.
43:40I'm Summer.
43:41Oh, I'm Molly.
43:44Please don't call us Miss.
43:46So, cricket.
43:47Does anybody know what it is?
43:49Yeah.
43:50It's not the same as rounders.
43:51It's quite hard, this.
43:5329 nine-year-old girls.
43:55Yeah, it's quite intimidating.
43:58Right.
43:59So, the plan for today is we're going to split you in half.
44:04Split?
44:05Sorry.
44:06You can't split him in half.
44:08Come on.
44:10Right.
44:11Do you want to get into partners?
44:13I've never played cricket.
44:14You're allowed to go with it.
44:16Catch it.
44:17And then you just throw it.
44:18Oh, right, like that.
44:19So, like this.
44:20All the way round.
44:21But once you drop it, you've got to do five star jumps.
44:23You ready?
44:24Right, you ready?
44:28Five star jumps.
44:33There's a lot of kids everywhere.
44:35Oh, my God.
44:37This is going horribly wrong.
44:39Hold on.
44:41Who thought of what?
44:42We're doing next?
44:44Come on.
44:45Come on.
44:46Come on, my minions.
44:50Jorging on me like balls, mate.
44:53Right, guys, listen.
44:54What should our team be called?
44:56Minions.
44:57Minions.
44:58We're called minions.
44:59Come on.
45:00Save the ball.
45:03Right, go on.
45:04Roll it to me.
45:05And then you're going to try.
45:06You're going to throw it.
45:08And then you're going to run round me.
45:11And then sit down.
45:13And the first team to sit down is the winner.
45:16Minions!
45:17Yeah!
45:18Donary!
45:19Steal!
45:20The moon!
45:21Yay!
45:24She's funny.
45:27Come on, minions.
45:28You're going to steal the moon.
45:30Yeah.
45:31Ready?
45:32Go.
45:33Copy!
45:34Whoa!
45:35I think Manny's been brilliant.
45:37Really surprised.
45:38Minions!
45:39Six!
45:40Six!
45:41Go!
45:42Go!
45:43Go!
45:44Go!
45:45Go!
45:46I'm winning.
45:47She's not sworn either, which I'm even more surprised at.
45:49Whoa!
45:50Yeah, really good.
45:51Yeah!
45:52She won!
45:53I can see, like, we've got a lot of confidence from this,
45:57which is, I guess, what we wanted.
45:59Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, Maddie
46:29Brilliant! Well done.
46:32Right, guys, ponies all to go and collect the balls
46:37and put them in a white bucket. Go!
46:40I thought they did so well to come into this so new
46:44and not know what to expect.
46:46All give us high fives. Go, Chase! Maddie!
46:50Go get Maddie.
46:54Every little girl there had a smile on the face.
46:57They loved it and actually seeing our girls in a different light
47:02was really good. Yeah, amazing, really.
47:05That was brilliant.
47:06I'm absolutely exhausted.
47:0918-year-old Maddie is currently unemployed,
47:13but Kyle spotted some untapped coaching potential.
47:16I think in that session there,
47:18that's the best I've ever seen you behave.
47:21It was. It was.
47:23I didn't swear you were proud of me. That's what I mean.
47:25No swearing, no bad behaviour.
47:27Could you see yourself doing something like that?
47:29I could.
47:30And I've done it.
47:34I look into it.
47:35Definitely should.
47:36You were laughing, joking. They all loved you.
47:39It was really good. Tonight we steal the moon.
47:42All right!
47:43Good luck.
47:48Nice!
47:59Success for this project.
48:00projects I think you could say you know everyone being able to play on a on a
48:06cricket club that's fit for purpose I think it's having an impact on kids
48:16lives I think I love cricket don't get me wrong and I think at the heart of this
48:23is cricket and it's making more accessible and opportunities and all the
48:28things that everyone talks about but I think the most important is actually seeing
48:34the kids thrive team how we can help them in their lives I think that that's
48:41success three years ago Freddie put together a team of unlikely lads from
48:48Preston which launched his dream of creating a new cricket league in the
48:53Northwest and today his clubs from Blackpool Manchester Liverpool and
49:00Preston will all be competing together in a knockout tournament hosted by the girls
49:09team at South Shore Cricket Club today's our big like tournament day it is on our
49:14ground but I find that when you're on your ground you have more confidence so I do
49:18hope today that we prove a point and show that girls cricket is a movement and that
49:22we can play against lads and still have that confidence a big day isn't it where
49:27we've got the four teams that we've worked with even the Preston boys to come and
49:32play in like a a little mini festival you know it's interesting to think that when
49:36we started that we'd have four teams all playing against each other on a ground
49:39which has improved you got nets out the bag the clubhouse has had a bit of a
49:44revamp it's got the makings of a good day and the first game of the day is a rematch and a chance
49:53for the Liverpool lads to finally beat Freddie's original team from Preston we're the first team
49:59so like it's up to us to play well but respectfully yeah I'm batting first so I'm going all or nothing
50:07bang should have caught that the girls would have hey I've got faith in you lad you'll
50:14this to the sky for us to catch I've heard you've got a small penis hey the bottom
50:19I didn't think it would ever get this big to be fair I didn't think field of dreams would go to
50:34four fields of dreams yeah I do actually think it will change a lot of people's life because it
50:41gives you a different perspective on life it gives you that little bit of like a push a push but in a
50:46way hey you got to get in his head call him a muffin for Fred to do what he's done for us for
50:51other team I think it's fantastic really I know how lucky I was to have this opportunity
50:56knowing that they've gone through what we've gone through and how it's changed us massively so if it
51:09can change other people I think it's brilliant hey this is horrible this lads we need to win
51:15come on man the original Preston team have put in a good effort oh the Scouts look at them but the
51:32Liverpool lads have managed to win by just one run it feels good like last time we trained and got beat
51:38and this time we've carried on training and we beat them so just shows that we can beat anyone if we train
51:43enough with the Liverpool lads through to the final that's it over on the other pitch the Manchester
51:50boys have made a strong start in their rematch against the Blackpool girls all my family at home
51:56and all my friends have said since I've been doing cricket I've been a different person completely my
52:02mood's been shining a lot more and I met some amazing mates
52:09it's been great to be a part of it I didn't think I would have carried on with it but I did and I've
52:32enjoyed every moment of it despite a valiant effort the girls have lost their rematch to the boys over
52:45the past year being with the girls I feel like winning isn't even the point for me anymore I have
52:50a girls team I've honestly made some of my best friends probably for life here who I know I'll play
52:56with in the future and who I know I'll train with and for me that's all that really matters for the
53:03final match and a chance of taking home the trophy the lads from Liverpool will be battling it out
53:09against the boys from Manchester you know we've managed to throw something together where four
53:14teams of kids who don't really play cricket have competed against each other but then I suppose some
53:20of the things I'm happier about you know Ryan for instance Kevin drop keep going keep going drop lad
53:28drop you know I first met him and he showed himself to be a very different kid to what we're seeing
53:34now you see the definite changes behavior Stevie Kev Dylan as well you know Presley's exactly the same
53:50I'm a kid that has struggled at school with friendship groups and finding his belonging I think he's found
53:55more of that you know the more I get to know miles the more reveals about himself just this big kid
54:00who just wants to be liked sort of massive change in Maddy she has a moment but you know I think
54:07ultimately she'd make a great coach so we could speak about all the kids and whether cricket's gonna be
54:15on the radar in some ways the cricket for these kids isn't really the important thing when they
54:20found mates and they found something to do and they found the belonging of a place I think we've made an
54:25impact in a group of kids lives moving forward with family and friends watching from the sidelines the
54:38Manchester boys have won the match and this year's Field of Dreams League Cup never in a
54:45million years would I expect this I've never ever seen him like so connected with such a group they're
54:53like a family his confidence he's like a different child yeah I think it's been brilliant he just seems
55:00much more grown up more independent like it's part of you know it belongs to something you know it's
55:06got like a new community of people you're all young people you should have aspirations and dreams and no
55:20one should ever take that away from you seek your talent push for it keep pushing forward all the time
55:27you never know where it's going to take you and I hope through what we've done over this past year or so we've
55:33helped you on that journey without further ado come and get your trophy captain Myles
55:48it means so much to me honestly like it's just the best thing has ever done to men I've never been in a team and
55:54and yeah it's uh yeah pretty emotional to be fair lifting up the trophy and stuff and it's just a big deal for everyone
56:09I'm sure we'll all get together and keep playing cricket I'm sure because I think it's something that once you
56:14start doing you sort of just keep doing so all the boys enjoy it so we'll see where that takes us
56:21I feel like to be a part of field of dreams is probably the best experience of my life and I will never ever forget it
56:29I am passionate about grassroots cricket but giving kids a chance in general you know and maybe the way in
56:36which I know we can do it best is through cricket and that's the one thing we know and trying to give kids
56:43an opportunity to do something which hopefully will impact their lives moving forward for the better
56:50where it goes from here I've got no idea from when this started I think all our lives has changed a little
56:57bit but it's definitely a start it's something to build on and we'll have to see what happens you can
