00:00Do you know how many people don't know that Lamborghini and Porsche may tractors?
00:03Isn't that so much fun?
00:04You've got them out there on the floor next to the Lamborghini, you know, and the cars out there.
00:08And that's just it. You know, there is so much in the car culture world that we all don't know.
00:14Welcome to Sam's Garage, presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
00:30This week on Sam's Garage, we're firing on all cylinders.
00:52First, we bring the Summit Racing Bandit build one step closer to the finish line with a proper stainless exhaust, OEM style.
01:00Then Vicks Mustang gets a transmission update with some clever solutions for a smoother LS swap.
01:06Next, we head to NHOU, where the mission goes beyond metal.
01:10It's about innovation, integrity, and protecting what matters.
01:15And finally, we cruise into Georgia's Collector Car Appreciation Day,
01:19capping off a 60-mile ride with 100 classics and a big donation to a great cause.
01:25Let's get started.
01:30This week on the Summit Racing Bandit project, we ditched the dumped pipes and go full OEM with stainless steel pipes exhaust.
01:47Tailpipes out the back, hangers in the right place, and clearance everywhere it counts.
01:52It's retro looks, modern muscle.
01:54So finally, this week on our Summit Racing Bandit project, we went ahead and went to Summit Racing,
02:00got us a Pipes exhaust system for a 79 Firebird.
02:04And this car originally had a dumped exhaust, which means right before the axle,
02:08they dumped it right from the mufflers onto the ground, which is old school cool.
02:11Sounds really good.
02:12But we're going to go original OEM.
02:15We're going to put the tips like they used to be in the rear fenders coming out.
02:18It's going to look perfect.
02:19I got the J-bends I need to connect them to the Summit Racing Shorty manifolds.
02:23I got all the hangers from pipes themselves also to make this a seamless installation.
02:31What we got here is going to be a stainless steel complete pipes exhaust system.
02:36This kit comes with two options for tailpipes.
02:38One is going to be the traditional style with the tips coming out just like factory right here.
02:43The other one is going to be a solid tip that goes back here,
02:46and then you can put whatever tip you want coming out the rear of the car.
02:49In the kit comes new hangers that's going to replace the factory hangers.
02:53That's going to bolt up right there to the factory location.
02:55Then we have a hanger rod.
02:57We're going to put inside that hanger, weld it to the tip.
03:00That is going to hold and secure the back side of the exhaust system up.
03:08Then on the side right here, we've got one of these hangers.
03:17We cut the top, we trim the rod, and we're going to put this on the top side of the muffler,
03:21giving it stability, and that's another mounting point for the exhaust system.
03:25I've got the clamps on here.
03:36What I like to do is once it's completely installed and I've got these clamps,
03:39I'll go back and do a little tack just so nothing moves
03:42because sometimes these clamps over time will get loose and move.
03:45But if you do a tack, it's going to help them stay in place.
03:48Moving up, we've got the X-pipe going all the way up.
03:51We want to keep it flush to the car as best we can so that when we come over here to the crossmember,
03:56we make our up pipes going to the Summit Racing manifolds,
03:59everything's going to work in unison and it's not going to rub the car.
04:02Now on the manifold for the passenger side, these Summit Racing manifolds,
04:06they come with V-band clamps.
04:07On the passenger side, the V-band clamp comes a little bit too close.
04:10Just take a little grinder and then they'll fit perfectly.
04:13Then we go ahead and make our pipes, connect them to the X-pipe right here.
04:17We shouldn't need another mounting point.
04:19Those four would be sufficient.
04:21And then the fact that it's going to be bolted up to the V-band clamps will do its job up front.
04:25You've got to make sure that when you're completely done,
04:45you want to go back and wipe off all your fingerprints because this is stainless steel.
04:49It's going to burn into the finish of the exhaust system.
04:51It's going to be for a bad look the rest of the life of the exhaust system.
04:55So don't do that.
05:01All right, so the pipes exhaust is fully installed.
05:03This is a nice kit.
05:04I like the tailpipes because it's OEM fresh and it's fully stainless steel.
05:08Now you guys have to remember a few things when you're doing an exhaust system.
05:11One, make sure you have clearances between the exhaust system and the body so you have no vibrations.
05:15Then make sure you have a good mounting point.
05:18So I got four hangers in the back and the collectors in the front.
05:21That's going to keep everything stable.
05:22And last, don't forget you got to make it serviceable.
05:24So I had to make custom up pipes very easily.
05:27Just remove these two clamps, remove the two V-band clamps,
05:30and the whole thing can be removed from the vehicle.
05:32Next week, we're going to attack the Dakota Digital Instrument Cluster.
05:34Sam's Garage is presented by NHOU.
05:50Brought to you by the following companies.
06:04Welcome back to Sam's Garage, presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
06:30From throttle cable headaches to custom drive shafts,
06:33we're buttoning up Vicks Mustang Swap with cooler lines,
06:37shifter mods, and a fresh transmission install.
06:40Plus some pro tips to help make your own engine swap smoother and smarter.
06:45I'm over here trying to figure out how to put these springs
06:48onto the throttle cable and bracket
06:50because apparently I lost the one that came off of it.
06:53And then today what we're going to do is install our new drive shaft.
06:55I went to Dwayne from Driveline Service of Atlanta.
06:57He's been making my drive shafts for 25 years.
07:00Made me another one.
07:01He did it in less than 24 hours for me.
07:02And then we're going to go ahead and install the cooler lines
07:05and the shifter cable.
07:07The shifter cable being a universal B&M deal
07:11that was on a 4, but I want to adapt it to a 4 L60s
07:14though we don't have to buy a new one.
07:19Okay, so anytime you guys are doing an engine swap
07:21or a transmission swap in a case where it's a manual to auto or vice versa,
07:26you want to get a new drive shaft
07:27and you want to be able to measure that drive shaft correctly.
07:29And in most cases, you want to measure it from the seal face
07:33to the flange face of the yoke,
07:36which is half of the U-joint's circle.
07:40Now, it's very important that when you guys give that measurement
07:42to your drive shaft shop,
07:43you tell them whether the rear end was hanging down
07:45or fully in place.
07:47Because when it comes down,
07:49the drive shaft comes out of the transmission.
07:52When it's in, it goes in.
07:53So, you want to tell them that.
07:56I need to get this guy in here.
08:00The piece that fits is on the Ford.
08:02Well, this will work just fine.
08:03I'm going to take this off,
08:05shave that down,
08:06put a hole through there that fits that guy right there.
08:08And then we're going to put this on the pan.
08:10We're going to put this where it's supposed to go.
08:12And that shifter up there should work just fine with the new transmission.
08:15I've got the bracket installed.
08:18I have to cut and drill a new hole so I can fit this pan.
08:21And now I'm going to put the cable through.
08:23When you guys are doing this particular job,
08:25that you make sure the transmission's in park.
08:27Then come out here and do your thing.
08:28As long as you did those two things,
08:30your shifter should work no problem.
08:31Now what we're going to do is the transmission cooler lines.
08:35I'm going to go ahead and go to Summit Racing
08:37and pick up a couple of the Earl fittings
08:39for the transmission that converts the 4L60 or the 4L80
08:43to a Dash 6 hose end.
08:45I made new hoses,
08:46got rid of the hard lines that were in the transition
08:48from the transmission to the cooler.
08:51Went ahead and put a 3H union on both sides,
08:54putting a period on the cooler lines.
08:56Now I made a hole in the old pan
08:58just so I can have a place to put a zip tie
09:00so I can keep the cooler lines snug to the engine.
09:03This will make it to where you guys can service it.
09:05You're going to put transmission fluid in it.
09:07You can always pick a Dash 6 easily
09:09and pop off your cooler line,
09:10take out the transmission.
09:11Instead of having to go in with a pick,
09:13pull out the piece,
09:14pull out the retainer clip,
09:16it becomes a bear.
09:17This is a lot better deal.
09:23So if you guys are doing an engine swap in your car,
09:26no matter what it is,
09:27you just got to get creative.
09:28You got to figure out what's going to work for you.
09:30Go to Holley.com.
09:31Like I said,
09:31they got over 70 brands underneath their belt.
09:34They have every kind of part you can imagine
09:36to get your project completed.
09:38Whether it be an LS motor,
09:40Hemi,
09:40Ford,
09:41or even a 2JZ or a Honda motor.
09:43Those two are very popular.
09:44Always have been,
09:45always will be.
09:47So then you can go out to Holley.com,
09:49get whatever you need
09:50to do your engine swap,
09:51make it right,
09:51go out there,
09:52and do burnouts the way
09:53Vic is going to do in his 66.
09:57You're probably thinking,
09:58how did it get like this?
10:00That's because of engine swap.
10:02That's because you're always going
10:03back and forth to your toolbox
10:04thinking,
10:05man,
10:05what do I need next?
10:06And then here you go,
10:07bam.
10:07But what I like to do
10:08is I like to put everything away
10:09at the end of the night
10:10so that the next morning
10:11I start fresh.
10:13All right,
10:13so with the Mustang,
10:14we got the powertrain completed,
10:15got the transmission installed,
10:17the cooler lines.
10:18The next thing we're going to do
10:19is the exhaust system,
10:20button it up.
10:21That way we'll be ready
10:22to go ahead
10:22and install the ignition system.
10:23We see the vehicles
10:36coming in on a regular basis.
10:37A big problem right now
10:39is brand new,
10:40off the showroom floor
10:41vehicles come in
10:42with major corrosion.
10:44And I don't mean like,
10:46I mean surface rust,
10:47but stuff that you shouldn't see
10:49on the undercarriage
10:50of a vehicle.
10:50And that's the beginning, right?
10:51That's the beginning.
10:52And so if people say
10:53they want to use our box wax,
10:55great.
10:56Boss wax really isn't designed
10:57to go over rust.
10:58It'll displace moisture
10:59and oxygen.
11:00When it does,
11:01it's creeping.
11:02And it takes about
11:02three months before
11:03it solidifies and sails.
11:05And so it allows that
11:07to pass through.
11:08Then it sails
11:08and you're not worried
11:09about encapsulation.
11:11Individuals that have a vehicle
11:13that's a few years old,
11:15two, three years old,
11:16it's got very mild surface rust,
11:18but they're not a candidate
11:19for our traditional boss wax
11:21because there's zero penetration
11:23and zero creeping.
11:25So with this product,
11:26you address that
11:27by having the oil in it
11:29to soak into the rust first
11:31before the wax solidifies
11:32on the surface and cures.
11:34And the boss wax,
11:35originally you would have put
11:36on a new vehicle
11:37where it's completely clean
11:38and that's what you put on
11:40and you service it rust-free
11:41and you service it how often?
11:43Every two years.
11:43Welcome back to Sam's Garage
11:47presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
12:00We're at NHOU
12:02where protecting vehicles
12:03is personal.
12:05Joe and Joey
12:06aren't just talking products.
12:07They're showing how purpose,
12:09relationships,
12:09and innovation
12:10are driving the future
12:11of rust protection,
12:13one dealer at a time.
12:15I am here with Joe and Joey
12:17here at NHOU
12:18and this family
12:19is all about
12:19protecting your investment
12:20and today,
12:21they're showing
12:21all the new potential
12:23dealers and franchisees
12:24all about the new products
12:25from NHOU.
12:28We run our business
12:29very different
12:30and for us,
12:30our purpose is
12:32solving my customers' problems
12:34and in some cases,
12:36partnering with you
12:37while you solve
12:38your customers' problems
12:39and we build relationships.
12:43So I'm not going to cover
12:44like our signature product
12:46which is our NH Oil Undercoding
12:48and I'll just talk about
12:50like how things
12:51have been evolving
12:52and the reason
12:54that they evolve
12:54is because we actually
12:56consume our own products
12:57and we're close
12:58to the problem.
12:59You know,
12:59like the mouse out
13:00for instance,
13:01you had a customer come in
13:02and he said,
13:03hey, I have an RV,
13:04I'd like to put this
13:05in my RV
13:06and do you think
13:07you could add
13:07some peppermint to it?
13:08In other words,
13:09the fact that we were
13:10close to the problem
13:11and we had that kind
13:12of communication
13:12with the customers
13:13is what led to mouse out.
13:16We went from,
13:18let's say,
13:18a regular oil
13:19to vehicles coming back
13:21and we noticed
13:22in certain abrasive areas
13:24like the back
13:24of the bumpers,
13:25the wheel wells,
13:26that the product
13:26just didn't hold up.
13:27No fault of the product,
13:29it's like a sandblasting cabinet
13:30and so we went back
13:32to the chemist
13:32and said,
13:33what can we do
13:33to, you know,
13:34extend the life
13:35of that product
13:36and that's how
13:36a wheel well guide
13:37was born.
13:41I'm going to show
13:41my F-150,
13:43it's a 12.
13:43There's another F-150
13:45that's in here.
13:45It's a 13.
13:47Never been treated,
13:48always been treated.
13:49It's night and day.
13:50You can go on
13:51to my F-150
13:52and I encourage you
13:53to take a little rag
13:54and wipe away
13:55the greasy spots
13:55around the frame.
13:57It's shiny black metal
13:58in most cases.
13:59So that's indicative
14:00of you being diligent
14:02with your service.
14:03Plus, not all vehicles
14:04are the same.
14:04If it's really rusty,
14:06a lot of the first coat
14:07is going to soak
14:08into the rust,
14:09you know,
14:09so you can't do
14:09the same thing
14:10for every vehicle.
14:11I recommend no matter
14:12what product a customer
14:13gets,
14:13unless it's one
14:14of the wax products,
14:15if the vehicle's
14:16never been done,
14:18at least do it
14:19two or three years
14:19in a row
14:20because that oil
14:21soak in,
14:21pieces are going
14:22to start shedding off.
14:23They come back,
14:24you blow those pieces off
14:25and eventually get
14:26to the point
14:26when nothing else
14:27is flaking off.
14:28So the last thing
14:32I'm going to cover
14:32is an app
14:33that we've created.
14:34It's in the beta stage
14:36right now,
14:37but one of the things
14:38that we want to do
14:39with this app
14:40is if you are offering
14:42the product,
14:43here's a couple of things
14:44that it'll do
14:45to help you
14:46with transparency.
14:48So somebody comes in,
14:49you walk out
14:50with your phone,
14:51you scan the VIN,
14:52automatic reports
14:53to Carfax,
14:54which is a good thing
14:55because now you're
14:56proactive, right?
14:57It'll report to us.
14:59We're creating a database
15:00called RustFax.
15:01You can check the miles
15:02on it
15:03and now it's a permanent
15:04record with Carfax,
15:06RustFax,
15:07and the app
15:08the customer has access to
15:09and to your records.
15:11That VIN will follow that.
15:13If he sells the vehicle,
15:15he can sell the whole
15:16package of maintenance,
15:19which is why
15:19if you do this every year,
15:21the resale value
15:22actually makes this
15:23a money-making deal.
15:25So all these
15:27products that we come up
15:28with is just to try
15:29to make the service better.
15:30You know,
15:30for us,
15:31we put people over profits
15:33and so that's
15:34the driving force
15:35behind anything
15:36that I do.
15:37As carny as it sounds,
15:38it's the truth.
15:39I have relationships.
15:40There are people here
15:41that I've been working with
15:42and we have real
15:43heart-to-heart conversations
15:45like they go much deeper
15:46than a business deal.
15:47That's kind of the way
15:48we've built our business.
15:49It's on relationships.
15:50Sam's Garage

17:43You could not be more thankful.
17:45Absolutely.
17:47I'm here with Tom Chedell,
17:48who's the Director of Development
17:49here at the Savoy Automobile Museum.
17:51He's just one of the many
17:52fine people on this staff
17:54that makes it possible
17:55for us to enjoy
17:56this beautiful museum.
17:57Amen.
17:58You are exactly right there.
17:59It's just part of the team
18:00and it definitely takes a village.
18:01And we are very fortunate
18:02to have a group here at Savoy
18:04that is able to connect people
18:06to the cultural diversity
18:07of the automobile.
18:08That is our mission
18:09here at the museum
18:10because it's not about
18:11one era,
18:12one style,
18:13one make,
18:14or one model.
18:14It is about automotive history
18:16from the very early onset
18:18to what's happening today
18:20and what's coming down the road.
18:22And that's what makes you guys
18:22so special here at the Savoy.
18:24And you guys,
18:24if you're in Cartersville
18:25here in Bartow County, Georgia,

18:36All right,
18:36so the National Collector Car
18:38Appreciation Day
