00:00The Lone Ranger
00:30And a warm welcome again to the big match.
00:49Today, three First Division games coming your way.
00:52And our main match is the London Derby game between West Ham and Arsenal.
00:55And what a backup we have for you today.
00:5711 goals from the other two games.
01:00And one of them is Leeds against Everton.
01:02And this is what Peter Lorimer had to say about the Leeds performance yesterday.
01:06Without any doubt, the lads were superb today.
01:08In fact, in the second half, we were as good as we've been at any time over the last ten years, I would say.
01:13Well, some credentials there.
01:14One of the best Leeds performances in ten years, according to Peter Lorimer.
01:17And more goals as we bring you the excitement of Wolves against Manchester City.
01:22But first, we go across to Upton Park, where the team's already on the field
01:25for the First Division game between West Ham and Arsenal.
01:27West Ham wanted to recover from that league-cut defeat at home against Spurs in midweek.
01:31Arsenal wanted to build on that victory against Manchester United.
01:34Let's check on the two teams.
01:36West Ham without Billy Bonds and Trevor Brookings.
01:38Now with Keith Coleman filling the number four spot.
01:40Billy Jennings getting the number ten shirt.
01:42Coleman will be playing at the back.
01:44McDowell will be playing in midfield.
01:46As for Arsenal, they're unchanged.
01:48And the man looking for celebration here is the West Ham number seven, Alan Taylor.
01:51It's a year to the week since he came from Rochdale, and what a year.
01:54For Arsenal, there's young Irish striker Frank Stapleton, who looked so good last week.
01:58The referee is Gordon Kew of Amersham, and now the crowd is waiting for the start.
02:03So, Arsenal kick-off, attacking the goal to our right.
02:07Indeed, they did last week when they scored inside 13 seconds against Manchester United.
02:12Something that they're going to find very difficult to beat this afternoon.
02:15They're in the yellow strip with the blue shorts.
02:17West Ham in their customary claret and blue with white shorts.
02:20Irving Day for West Ham.
02:29Rice.
02:32Leary winning that above Jennings and sending Alan Ball on his way.
02:37A flick through there towards Stapleton.
02:39And some very good covering indeed by Keith Coleman.
02:43Good play by Coleman.
02:46No bonds or blocking in the side, but the strength of the club
02:48was very much in its reserves, and Coleman did a really excellent job there.
03:22Tommy Taylor, Keith Robson, a delicate header there for Patton.
03:34Robson.
03:45Eleven minutes gone.
03:47Must be the fourth corner at least for West Ham.
03:50Patton with it. Another outswing with that left foot.
03:53Curling out towards the penalty spot.
03:54Tommy Taylor couldn't get ahead of it.
03:55Jennings couldn't get his foot to it.
03:57Now McDowell, left foot.
03:58Oh, and what a save there by Jimmy River.
04:04Well, a couple of them tried to get their heads to it and couldn't.
04:06And it fell then, quite invitingly, to the feet of John McDowell.
04:09Hit it well, and River was able to parry it.
04:12And finally it was clear.
04:20Storrey.
04:26Waiting patiently for the ball.
04:28Pat Rice behind him.
04:34Brian Kidd's backward header.
04:36Pollan.
04:37It's an understanding there for Queen Robson.
04:39And Taylor.
04:42Nelson.
04:46Hall.
04:50Storrey.
04:54Bryce.
04:55Robson to Taylor.
04:56Tyner goes.
04:57Tyner.
04:58Now Brady.
04:59Stapleton trying to play the short ball again to Kidd.
05:01At the moment of Kidd not really hitting it off so far this afternoon, but here's Alan Ball.
05:06Now it's hit again short.
05:07And short again.
05:08This time it might come off as Kidd gets it onto the leftward.
05:09And causes Mervyn Day to make a very good save indeed.
05:12But the real quality there was the interpassing between Frank Stapleton and Brian Kidd.
05:15That eventually left the ball on the left foot of Brian Kidd.
05:16A powerful shot.
05:17And Day in the way to save the goal.
05:40to save the goal
05:42so a corner for Arsenal
05:46got a good record here
05:49in fact they've lost only one of their last
05:51nine appearances here in the league
05:53and that was last season when they lost 1-0
05:55to the Graham Padden goal
05:56here comes the corner
05:58now's header
06:01Story trying to turn it back again
06:04and Kidd might get in there with the header
06:05no disallow
06:08disallowed
06:09an offside
06:11and no goal
06:13fell up well
06:17put it past day
06:19but it doesn't count
06:20Robson's header back
06:26now can Taylor get there first
06:34but first of all it was meant for Billy Jennings
06:37I think Arsenal did as well
06:38until Taylor sprang onto the scene
06:40he'll be alright
06:48Padden's throw to Keith Robson
06:50back but over
06:53not a bad season for Keith Robson
07:00five goals so far
07:01a bit of injury trouble as well
07:03West Ham manager John Lyre was telling me he's not since the start of the season
07:09been able to field a fully representative side without injury niggling somewhere along the line
07:13there's the skipper doing a skipper's job again Alan Ball
07:25another free kick to West Ham
07:31not taken from exactly the right spot but near enough and obviously the spirit of the game
07:37so Gordon Q saw was that West Ham should reap some advantage from it so he allowed it to be taken
07:42and good to see
07:42Robson
07:47West Ham's throw
07:52Kevin Locke to Keith Robson
07:55Locke again
07:57hit in first time and hit in well
07:59Billy Jennings right in there
08:00Taylor there
08:01goal given
08:02goal offside
08:05no it's a goal
08:09well
08:11Pat Rice having a word with the linesman
08:13and the referee ordering him away
08:14Alan Taylor the scorer
08:16the goal given
08:17I'm bound to say to me
08:18he looks suspiciously offside
08:20and it's something you'll have to look at much more closely
08:24as the ball came in
08:25knotted down by Billy Jennings
08:27and he'd already made his move then
08:29for Taylor
08:30and whacked it past Rimmer
08:32West Ham won
08:33Arsenal nil
08:34well that's the lead West Ham wanted
08:43there was a controversy over it
08:46certainly Taylor did look that little bit offside
08:50but here he goes now
08:51showing all that pace
08:53and causing O'Leary to give away the corner
09:04so Padden will take it
09:07Tommy Taylor is up
09:09and Rimmer's catch
09:14Ball
09:17getting a little bit involved there
09:20he's obviously upset by that decision
09:21that allowed that goal
09:22he's got that tight-lipped look
09:26that he has so often
09:27when things are going badly
09:28and here he is again
09:29Alan Ball
09:29he'll fight his way out of that situation
09:33I'm sure
09:34offside this time
09:36Keith Robson
09:45Alan Taylor
09:46good ball again
09:47what a word he's playing some balls this
09:49Alan Taylor
09:50oh and that was really a superb goal by Robson
09:53lovely ball played by Alan Taylor
09:57Padden pouncing and hitting the early ball in low
10:00and Robson made enormous ground
10:02to get there with a diving head of the wind wide
10:04well not sure where that was supposed to be
10:13but the referee I think conscrued that it was
10:15six and one half dozen the other
10:18Dowd obviously felt a little more aggrieved than that
10:25in fact the referee is going to have a word with Sammy Nelson
10:27Taylor
10:31over his own head
10:49Larry and a throw to Weston
10:53Dowd good throw
11:09Robson good backward header
11:10Jennings trying to climb for it
11:12oh and a good save there
11:15and a very good one indeed
11:17by Rimmer from Billy Jennings
11:19Jennings hit that one well
11:23Rimmer couldn't have seen it to the very last
11:25but still managed to get in the way again
11:28Padden
11:31doing a tremendous amount of work for him
11:34Padden in the middle of the field for West Ham this afternoon
11:36finding Taylor
11:38good cross again by him towards Jennings
11:42and it'll come for Robson
11:43it still might come for Robson
11:45and in the end Nelson can tend to put it behind
11:49another of the qualities of Alan Taylor
11:54he does seem to become now such a good crosser of the ball
11:57several times this afternoon
11:59and that was another case in point
12:00it fell to Robson
12:02and in the end Robson could make nothing of it
12:04so Padden now trying his luck on that side of the field with a corner
12:13played short to Alan Taylor
12:16Armstrong
12:21Kidd
12:40Powling
12:41Story
12:42come to Stapleton
12:48cut out by Locke
12:49Stapleton again
12:51now Armstrong
12:53Nelson coming in hard
13:00oh some trouble going on there off the ball
13:05between
13:05Kidd
13:08and Coleman
13:09and the linesman being called in I think by referee Q
13:13to have a word as to what was going on there
13:15I confess I didn't see all of that
13:17it was off the ball
13:18linesman's given his version
13:25and now Kidd and Coleman
13:27get the referee's verdict
13:30which is a sharp talking to and no more
13:34the crowd don't feel happy about that
13:39they felt that action should have been taken of some sort
13:41and there goes the whistle for half time
13:48a gutsy first half
13:49good local derby stuff
13:51and a lot of skillful stuff as well
13:54West Hamming having the better of the game
13:56and getting the one goal that mattered
13:58controversial though it was
14:00Arsenal claiming that it was offside
14:01scored by Alan Taylor
14:02the number seven
14:03Arsenal having had a goal disallowed for offside by Brian Kidd
14:07a lot more to come of the big match this afternoon
14:09a half time score here at Upton Park
14:11West Ham 1
14:12Arsenal 0
14:13we'll be right back with you
14:14with the second half
14:15welcome back to Upton Park
14:27West Ham now
14:28attacking the goal to our right
14:30at one goal up
14:31scored by Alan Taylor
14:32Arsenal with a not very impressive away record
14:37they've only won once away in the league
14:41since last December
14:42that's 11 months
14:43and that was at Sheffield United earlier this season
14:47well there this goal down
14:49and here's Kidd
14:52story
14:59well it might come for story again
15:04now Tommy Taylor
15:05and it might come for story again
15:06but here's Holland
15:07Jennings
15:14tried a little touch there
15:16for Holland again
15:16but it fell for Sammy Nelson
15:18and now for Alan Ball
15:19Stapleton after this
15:22but Locke
15:23a little bit of luck there
15:26but I think Locke has played well
15:28and consistently enough
15:29to deserve it
15:30well that time
15:36by O'Leary
15:37on Jennings
15:39and Alan Taylor
15:40quickly taking the free kick
15:41for West Ham
15:41and it's with Pat Holland
15:42McDowell
15:43chipping it on
15:44look at this
15:44running by Holland as well
15:46oh and a nice little
15:47pass turned inside there
15:49and it very nearly fell
15:50for Billy Jennings
15:50at the first genuine move
15:52in the second half there
15:53very nearly bringing West Ham
15:55a second goal
15:56beautiful play
15:58right the way through
15:59and in the end
16:01Jennings couldn't quite get there
16:03to finish it
16:03but a corner for West Ham
16:08Graham Padden's going to take it
16:09deep run this time
16:15towards Tommy Taylor
16:16but he nudged there
16:17Arsenal defender as he made his run
16:21for that course
16:22played for Brady
16:37and now for Nelson
16:40Powling
16:47oh a nice little chip there
16:49by Kidd
16:51Powling
16:59McDowell
17:02played on for Robson
17:06chipped in again
17:07towards McDowell
17:08story did remarkably well
17:09there for Arsenal
17:10O'Leary
17:15again picking up a little bit
17:18now in this second half
17:19as it goes back again
17:23to Jimmy River
17:23by Stapleton
17:38another free kick
17:39to West Ham
17:39Tommy Taylor
17:47to Keith Robson
17:49ball getting in there
17:50hasn't had quite the influence
17:52on this game Alan Ball
17:53that he had on last week's
17:54there's Armstrong
17:56with the ball played through
17:57nicely weighted there
17:58for Frank Stapleton
17:59and now for Brian Kidd
18:00this looks better for Arsenal
18:01getting a good cross in as well
18:05and Brady
18:07oh and a great save
18:08lovely move there by Arsenal
18:15Kidd swinging that ball in
18:17from the right
18:18and West Ham's defence
18:19was always under pressure
18:20as it finally came out
18:22from Brady
18:22guided it
18:23and a brilliant save by Dane
18:25there's the cross
18:27coming in again
18:28oh
18:29in fact there was a foul
18:31well that's woken up
18:38the crowd a little bit
18:39they've gone to sleep
18:40just a fraction
18:40with West Ham
18:41on this 1-0 lead
18:42and that shows you
18:44how vulnerable
18:45a 1-0 lead can be
18:47and of course West Ham
18:48if they want to keep up
18:48their challenge towards the top
18:50of the first division
18:50taking two points
18:52from every home game
18:53is absolutely imperative
18:55Arsenal
19:05Arsenal still very much in it
19:07so Arsenal still very much in it
19:08just for a spell in the first half
19:18it looked as though the game
19:19might not necessarily get out of hand
19:22but become just a little
19:23too tough
19:25in fact the Derby game
19:27has been played
19:27in a very good humour indeed
19:28Robson now trying to get Padden away
19:33Padden really has covered
19:36just about every blade
19:37on this ground
19:37he hasn't got quite the legs
19:43for it
19:43but he had enough
19:44to hustle Arsenal
19:45into an area
19:46and give away this corner
19:47Taylor right in there
19:59O'Donnell right in there
20:00and Rima will gather
20:02possibly able to kick with his left foot
20:08at least hopefully so
20:10he'll throw it
20:11could have been in trouble there
20:16Kidd
20:17Nelson
20:20O'Leary
20:23about six minutes to go
20:25really the sort of time
20:28when Arsenal
20:28have got to risk everything
20:29and push men forward
20:30all the more
20:31Howling
20:33and West Ham
20:35will want to preserve
20:36this one goal lead
20:37but now they're right in there
20:38now Stapleton
20:39with a chance
20:39and he's
20:40just wide
20:42that really was a good chance
20:46there for Stapleton
20:47the ball fell nicely
20:48to him on his left foot
20:50and he was about a foot wide
20:53during injury time
20:55and there can't be very much of it
20:57it looks as though
20:59the one
21:00controversial goal
21:01is going to be the one
21:03that decides it
21:04Irving Day
21:06with what could be
21:07the last goal kick
21:08and indeed it is
21:13as the whistle goes
21:14and West Ham
21:15have picked up
21:16two more precious points
21:17as they bid for that
21:19Football League Championship
21:20having beaten Arsenal
21:21by a goal to nil
21:22the goal scored
21:23by Alan Taylor
21:24a disappointing second half
21:28particularly
21:28after a rousing first half
21:30and a full time score line
21:32then at Upton Park
21:33West Ham won
21:34Arsenal nil
21:35and of course
21:37a lot more to come
21:37on the big match
21:38let me remind you
21:39goals galore
21:40as Leeds face Everton
21:41and Wolves meet
21:42Manchester City
21:43but first of all
21:43of course
21:43we've got to clear up
21:44the controversial points
21:45from West Ham yesterday
21:46why was an Arsenal goal
21:48disallowed
21:48and in spite of all
21:50those Arsenal protests
21:51why was the West Ham
21:52goal given
21:52first of all
21:53the disallowed goal
21:54for Arsenal
21:54which I thought
21:55first of all
21:55was for offside
21:56but we can see here now
21:58as Peter Story
21:58crosses this ball in here
22:00at the moment of impact
22:01Brian Kidd on the far side
22:02in the light shirt
22:03is in an onside position
22:05so why was it disallowed
22:06this perhaps is the answer
22:08as Brian Kidd climbs
22:09he clambers all over
22:10Frank Lampard
22:11and although he heads it
22:13past Mervyn Day
22:14Gordon Kew
22:15absolutely right
22:16to disallow it
22:17so disappointment there
22:19for Arsenal and their fans
22:20but of course
22:21the major controversial
22:22point of the whole game
22:23was that West Ham winning goal
22:25scored by Alan Taylor
22:26why was that one allowed
22:27well as Kevin Locke
22:28crosses it
22:29and Billy Jennings
22:30rises so superbly
22:32in that Arsenal penalty area
22:33watch Alan Taylor
22:34clearly there
22:35it seems
22:36in an offside position
22:38and it would seem
22:39that Arsenal's protests
22:40were justified
22:41Taylor
22:41is becoming so familiar now
22:43for West Ham fans
22:44cracking that past
22:46Jimmy Rimmer
22:47for a goal that proved
22:48to be the winner
22:49but as we look at it again
22:50from another angle
22:51let's look at something else now
22:53as Keith Robson
22:54plays that ball
22:54for Kevin Locke
22:55I want you to watch
22:56this time the referee
22:57and I'm wondering if
22:58there was a suspicion
22:59of doubt in his mind
23:00about Alan Taylor
23:01being in an offside position
23:02because as Billy Jennings
23:03rises here
23:04even before the ball
23:06is in the net
23:06watch the referee now
23:07it seems to me
23:09that the whistle
23:09is in his mouth
23:10as though he suspects
23:12that there is something
23:13wrong with it
23:13but the goal was given
23:14and I think it's worth
23:15looking yet again
23:17from that same angle
23:18behind the goal
23:19because I think
23:19you can find something else
23:20that might suggest
23:21that after all
23:22it could have been
23:23a valid goal
23:24and it is
23:25as Kevin Locke
23:26crosses the ball
23:27whether or not
23:28George Armstrong
23:28who is challenging him
23:30puts everybody else
23:31on side
23:31here we come now
23:32here's Kevin Locke
23:34about to cross the ball
23:35watch George Armstrong
23:36challenging him now
23:37and I'm wondering
23:37if the momentum
23:38of George Armstrong
23:39there takes him
23:40near enough to the byline
23:41to suggest that
23:42even though the ball
23:43comes into the centre here
23:44and Billy Jennings
23:44as we've seen before
23:45heads it on
23:46whether Armstrong
23:47is perhaps near enough
23:48that byline
23:49to have played
23:51Alan Taylor on side
23:52that's the only clue
23:54that I can think
23:54and I'm not at all sure
23:56that it will entirely
23:57satisfy the Arsenal fans
23:58but I think that
23:59that might suggest
24:00that the goal
24:01was a valid one
24:02I'm quite sure
24:03that Alan Ball
24:03and company
24:04would disagree with that
24:05nonetheless though
24:06I got another view
24:07on that West Ham goal
24:08and what better
24:09than to get it
24:10from the man
24:10who scored it
24:11of course
24:11Alan Taylor
24:12what was his view
24:13of the West Ham winner
24:15well when I made the run
24:16I was definitely
24:19in an onside position
24:22and then when it went
24:24in the back of the net
24:25they started to appeal
24:26did you have any doubts
24:29at all in your mind
24:30when that appeal
24:31went on?
24:31I didn't myself
24:32but when Bill Jennings
24:34edited it down
24:34I just turned it
24:35so whether I was
24:37in an offside position
24:38or not
24:38I couldn't say
24:38well it counted
24:39and that's really
24:40what matters
24:40the referee said
24:41it was okay
24:41it's been a remarkable
24:43year because it's a year
24:43to this weekend
24:44of course
24:44that you came down
24:45from Rochdale
24:46and not very many
24:46people knew about you
24:47did they?
24:48that's right
24:48yeah
24:48a lot of people
24:49know about you now
24:50well
24:51when you look back
24:53on that year
24:53Alan
24:53what are the things
24:54that stick most
24:55in your mind?
24:57I think the running
24:58FA Cup
24:59mainly
25:00but
25:01how I've enjoyed
25:03myself down
25:04at West Ham
25:04in what way?
25:07I get on well
25:07with the lads
25:08they're always
25:09helping me
25:10because they're
25:11more experienced
25:11than what I am
25:12and I've learnt
25:12a lot in the year
25:13Alan Taylor
25:15of West Ham
25:16who had an excellent
25:16game and in spite
25:17of that controversial
25:18goal let me also
25:19add that I thought
25:19that Gordon Q
25:20the referee
25:20had a very fine
25:21game as well
25:22he always seemed
25:22to be in sympathy
25:23with it
25:23giving it every
25:24chance to flow
25:25and that of course
25:25is what we like
25:26to see
25:27let's have some
25:37more flowing
25:37action now
25:38what fine action
25:39it is as we
25:39swing over to
25:40the Midlands
25:40for the match
25:41between Wolves
25:42who are having
25:42a dreadful season
25:43and Manchester City
25:44who in the last
25:45couple of months
25:46have really begun
25:46to pick up a bit
25:47of form
25:47stand by then
25:48as the pictures
25:49come from ATV
25:50the commentators
25:51Hugh Johns
25:51Wolves are in
25:52the dark shorts
25:53Clements
25:58oh that was a bad
26:09one as far as
26:10Barnes
26:10that's really
26:12so Wolves in
26:12trouble
26:13Cole finally
26:16tidied it up
26:16which was just
26:17as well
26:17Mike Bailey
26:20Kindon unmarked
26:21in the middle
26:21of the park
26:22away from
26:25Watson
26:25couldn't keep
26:26it though
26:26Oaks got it
26:27Royal
26:28to it
26:29Munro takes
26:31it out
26:31Steve Daly
26:33this ball fairly
26:35flying from one
26:36end of the park
26:36to the other
26:37oh and the shot
26:41coming for Kindon
26:43oh what a cracker
26:44what a save
26:45well that Manchester
26:49City defence
26:50was caught in
26:51all kinds of
26:51trouble
26:51when the cross
26:52came over
26:52looked as though
26:53Hibbert was
26:54going to have a
26:54bang but he
26:54couldn't
26:55Kendon did
26:56and that was
26:56a wonderful
26:57reflex action
26:57save from
26:58Corrigan
26:58Hartford
27:00Royal winning it
27:02back from
27:03Manchester City
27:03Hartford
27:05Bailey
27:08won that well
27:09Watson gets it
27:12clear again
27:13to Hartford
27:14Oaks
27:15long for Barnes
27:17and that's
27:19Oaks
27:27and that's Oaks
27:30across the face of the girls for a moment it looked as though it was going behind and there
27:33it was right across the face of the girls and what a bit of luck for wolves that the
27:40manson city didn't have anybody following up to not an easy chance in to it and that's oaks
27:49sorry call it wrong that was uh doyle
27:54and handle off the line and the penalty is given
27:57so a chance now for manson city greatly in many respects against the play to go in front
28:08that corner from tour smartly struck by mike doyle handle off the line dennis jones chance
28:17to score his 13th goal of the season
28:20and hit the ball and hartford has scored it
28:28asa hartford scores his third goal of the season it's one nothing manson city
28:31well what a dramatic series of incidents the corner from to it the header from doyle the handling on
28:41the line the penalty from to it hitting the crossbar hartford heading in the rebound
28:47one nothing manson city 27 minutes gone
28:58good cross cut out by bailey
29:01joe royal
29:13what a remarkable say that was joe royal still can't believe it asking for the linesman to confirm
29:21that that fantastic save from his header by gary pierce was hooked out from behind the line
29:32hartford
29:34to it oaks
29:37donachy
29:41that girl having put a lot of fresh heart into master city
29:44good long cross aiming for joe royal hartford
29:57and to it is there and that's the boy barnes has got his goal
30:03peter barnes
30:05his second goal of the season 32 goals 32 minutes gone
30:09and it's two nothing next to the city
30:15well that was an awful lot going on there the cross ball from to it royal knocking it back hartford
30:20trying it wolves thought it was going out for a goal kick
30:23to it knocks it back in again and peter barnes is right on the end of it
30:28monroe
30:31it's kinder watson at his back
30:33palmer's got a good run on here
30:40skinnier grass and no wolves boot to get on the end of it
30:44steve daly against power
30:48stuck to his job well farley
30:51well saved corrigan again
30:55oh the man's on his own this afternoon
30:57looking for joe royal
31:06off palmer for the corner
31:17barnes to take the corner peter barnes
31:19doyle coming up near post
31:25tripped by the referee hartford
31:27to score
31:31what an incredible goal i have never seen anything like that in my life
31:36pierce absolutely thunderstruck and the referee played a significant part in that
31:42and he understands it the corner comes swinging in
31:48referee trick doyle everybody thought that uh play would be stopped ball drops to hartford he
31:53kicks it in the back of the net hits three nothing and power breaks out for manchester city
32:00to it tanking away to his right
32:01and ball give him too much so mccall was always going to be the winner
32:13mike bailey joe royal behind him and a break on for two it but this be goal number four
32:19yes it is
32:22well there you are wolves absolutely punished by a stupid a very stupid bit of defensive thoughtlessness
32:28the goal in fact won by the challenge of joe royal
32:36dennis tuart denied the penalty early on
32:40or denied scoring the penalty early on in fact gets his goal
32:44goal number 30 in this season
32:47and just two minutes left to play
32:49a tragic scoreline for wolves to face now four nothing down at home
32:54so the black clouds really settling over molyneux and bill mcgarry
32:58and
33:07now let's move on to more goals and thrilling action as we bring you leeds united against
33:11everton at ellen road leeds moving up all the time everton now with an 18 year old goalkeeper drew
33:17brand making his first league appearance for them the pictures come from yorkshire television the
33:20commentators keith macklin leads in white mackenzie with three defenders
33:33again a case of remember the referee has to make a split second decision
33:37and he looked right in
33:42and he looked right in
33:46in
33:51inches outside the box free kick to leads
33:55lord
34:03Yes, the deflection!
34:08Lorimer's ninth of the season.
34:11Watch the deflection from this shot.
34:13Driven hard and low.
34:17Off the outside of the leg.
34:21Lyons, Hamilton.
34:24Latchford over the top of him, and Evans looking pretty dangerous now.
34:29Good spell of football from Everton.
34:34Good cross just over the top of Latchford.
34:46Jorath in possession for Leeds.
34:54Jorath getting away from Buckley.
34:57Square to Cherry.
34:59Go, Jorath! Go, Jorath! Go, Jorath!
35:03Frank Gray.
35:06There are men in the middle.
35:08Kenyon and Mackenzie.
35:10Banged away by Lyons.
35:12Throw to Leeds United.
35:15Quickly taken by Rini to Jorath.
35:20Down for Clarke.
35:21Clarke round his man!
35:23Two!
35:24Clarke's finishing when he's in this mood is as clinical as a surgeon's knife.
35:36It was Lyons who fell and gave him his chance, and Clarke rarely misses them like that.
35:40Two-nil.
35:48Back header by Latchford.
35:50Found Telfer.
35:52Telfer going well past Frank Gray.
35:54And all...
35:55Is that a penalty?
35:56Could well be.
35:58Madeley gave it away.
36:01I don't think there's a lot of doubt about this.
36:03Telfer's past Gray.
36:05Now watch Madeley's tackle.
36:06The...
36:07Now the men who have scored from penalties for Everton this season are not on the field.
36:24Smallman has hit one, and Jones has hit one, and neither of them is playing.
36:27So who's going to take it?
36:28Ned Clements by the little bit.
36:29The ball has not been returned.
36:34The...
36:35Yes, it has now.
36:36With five minutes before half-time, a penalty to Everton.
36:40And in the absence of Smallman and Jones, it's David Clements to take it.
36:45The crowd booing, but...
36:48They'll look to a pretty clear case for a penalty.
36:592-1.
37:00David Harvey saying he wasn't ready.
37:02David Harvey saying to the referee, he wasn't ready for that.
37:05He was picking bits and pieces.
37:07Now Harvey doesn't look quite ready, but Clements certainly is.
37:122-1.
37:16Now Mr Burns going across to have a war with the linesman, who may well take Harvey's side.
37:25Yes, Harvey has made his point.
37:29David Harvey was picking bits out of the goal mouth when Dave Clements took that, and the linesman interceded on his behalf.
37:38So Dave Clements has got to keep a cool head, and try to do it again.
37:51And as Clements warped up them, Billy Bremner had a word with him, and one wonders whether a war of nerves is going on here.
37:57The crowd booing, a retaken penalty, a lot of pressure on the Irish temperament of Dave Clements.
38:10But he wins, he got through it. It is 2-1, and there's no argument this time.
38:17And that penalty took two and a half minutes to take.
38:26Now Rini.
38:30Now Rini.
38:34Cherry.
38:36Down for Mackenzie.
38:38And it's Kenyon.
38:43Didn't have enough pace to go behind.
38:47Kenyon, Jorath, into touch.
38:49One minute to half-time.
38:52One minute to half-time.
38:56Plus, of course, any added time.
39:00Sargent.
39:03Flick.
39:04Beautiful flick.
39:05Beautifully taken from Latchford by Dawson.
39:07Dobson.
39:10Maidley.
39:12Cherry.
39:13Dropping for Kenyon.
39:15Kenyon.
39:16And his...
39:18Shinscrake.
39:19Here's Lorimer.
39:20Lorimer getting past.
39:22Clements.
39:23Lorimer goes down.
39:24Penalty.
39:25Another penalty.
39:27This time to Leeds.
39:29Clements.
39:30Hustle by Lorimer.
39:31Watch again the tackle.
39:39Mr. Burns awards his second penalty.
39:42On the stroke of half-time.
39:54Roger Kenyon is, I think, the man down.
39:56Two minutes.
39:57Jeremy Kennedy.
39:58Middle.
39:59Northspread, two.
40:09Let's see what happens here.
40:12Now, McKenzie caught Kenyon.
40:18The penalty is about to be taken.
40:21Poor Andrew Brown.
40:22What an afternoon.
40:23Lorimer's the man taking it.
40:263-1.
40:33No go keep again.
40:34The land couldn't stop those.
40:44Clark.
40:46Jorath.
40:47Got that back from Hamilton.
40:48Eddie Gray.
40:49Medley.
40:50Medley.
40:55Medley.
40:59René.
41:05That was off Kenyon.
41:06Kenyon.
41:07Jorath.
41:16Clements going for it.
41:17So too is Lorimer.
41:21René.
41:22To Jorath.
41:24Cross up for Clark and Eddie Gray.
41:26Brands dropped it.
41:27Oh, what a save.
41:28Eddie Gray.
41:29Eddie Gray again.
41:30This time it's in.
41:31It took a long time, but it's Eddie Gray's first goal of the season.
41:36And Leeds United's fourth of the game.
41:38The young goalkeeper here made two saves.
41:43There's the first one.
41:44What's this one?
41:45Good save.
41:47And Eddie Gray had two bites.
41:49McKenzie.
41:53McKenzie.
41:54Trying to flick it first side as he's obstructed.
42:13Blot him up.
42:14Pass Clements and Dobson.
42:16Free kick has been awarded.
42:30Floated across for Kenyon's head up.
42:34A corner.
42:35Corner.
42:45Corner to Leeds United.
42:46Keeping up the pressure.
42:48Clark.
42:51Really, this young man, Brand, may have been beaten four times.
42:57No club could wish for better service from a goalkeeper.
43:00Clark's head up.
43:01Pinpoint.
43:02Terrific save.
43:05Come right.
43:06Come right.
43:07Come right.
43:08You're left.
43:12It'll be taken again.
43:14Get rid of it!
43:15Get rid of it!
43:16Get rid of it!
43:17Get ridged!
43:18Get rid of it!
43:19Get rid of it!
43:20feel that he's been thrown into the lion's den this afternoon but he really has pulled off some
43:26terrific saves in this half and he may be called upon to save another any second now
43:31there Clark five
43:36brann punched it out the feet of Clark
43:48Clark did the rest
43:51Lonnemer mistiming that for Clements
43:58Leeds now having got five no need to burst any blood vessels
44:03Danicott
44:05good flick for Latchford
44:102-5-2
44:12Bob Latchford who set such a thin season
44:16gets his fifth goal of the season
44:19in the 39th minute
44:21Danicott
44:23Hamilton letting it go through
44:25clipped through for Latchford
44:28and the man who was dropped by Billy Bingham
44:30because he couldn't score goals gets him
44:32brilliant and that's why Peter Lorimer told us that it was one of the best Leeds performances for 10 years
44:38that's it three games 12 goals
44:40bit of controversy
44:42some wonderful skills all packed into the last hour
44:44well also in the last hour we've seen a few penalties
44:47now you'd think that there could be nothing more straightforward than firing the ball in from 12 yards
44:51wouldn't you but just consider what we've seen today
44:53of course when Peter Lorimer takes a penalty for Leeds it's usually straightforward enough
44:57the penalty is about to be taken for Andrew Brown
45:02what an afternoon
45:03Lorimer's the man taking it
45:053-1
45:07but we've also seen a goalkeeper who wasn't ready for a penalty
45:122-1
45:14David Harvey saying he wasn't ready
45:16David Harvey is saying to the referee he wasn't ready for that
45:19now Mr Burns going across to have a word with the linesman
45:22who may well take Harvey's side
45:25yes
45:28and when he was ready it made no difference at all
45:32a crowd booing
45:33a retaken penalty
45:35a lot of pressure
45:37on the Irish temperament of Dave Clements
45:40but he wins
45:42he got through it
45:43and we've seen how Manchester City needed two men to score from the spot
45:47and with the ball
45:49and Hartford
45:51has scored it
45:52Asa Hartford scores his third goal of the season
45:56it's won nothing Manchester City
45:57it's won nothing
45:58it's won nothing
45:59it's won nothing
46:00it's won nothing
