00:00I'll start with Bill Belichick, and I just thought she nailed it there with her take.
00:03But first, it's Agenda Free Friday here on Felger and Mass.
00:07As always, it's brought to you by Catches Law.
00:08At Catches, they specialize in helping those who have been injured not only from a one-time incident,
00:13but from a lifetime of hard work and labor.
00:15Does this sound like you?
00:16Visit CatchesLaw.com.
00:18The format of the program is the same.
00:20You set the agenda with your wonderful phone calls.
00:22We have release the hounds at 617-779-0985.
00:26We'll go right to you.
00:27Opening segment when you are ready.
00:28In the interim, we fill it with some opening takes.
00:30Maz Murray, how are you guys doing?
00:31Good, you.
00:32Michael, Anthony, hello.
00:33We'll be discussing at least some, the latest Bill Belichick story down at North Carolina,
00:39which you could headline or title Another New Low, except I just don't know how new it is.
00:45And that's why I thought her take was excellent.
00:48She says this is what it would look like if Bill Belichick were running an NFL team in 2025.
00:53And that's the reason he didn't get hired.
00:55And I would say nailed it.
00:57Except this is how he was running an NFL team in 2023 and 2019 and 2017 and 2014.
01:04And I don't know if I need to go all the way back to the very beginning,
01:08but certainly there was a long, long, long time that Bill Belichick ran the Patriots this way.
01:14And as much as you want to say this is a new low, and what I'm talking about is him banning Patriot scouts from UNC.
01:22That's a story which has been confirmed all over the place, which is also an amazing thing to me, that UNC is basically confirming it.
01:30They're not running from it.
01:31They're basically confirming it.
01:33Vrabel, in so many words, confirmed it today.
01:35So it's confirmed.
01:36But Belichick largely ran the Patriots this way for a long time.
01:42And I have a hard time just not scratching the itch of saying when you tried to point it out, you got shouted down as being some sort of hater.
01:48And I guess I don't blame you for wanting to ignore it.
01:51Because next to the winning, what did it matter, I guess?
01:54But it was there.
01:55Make no mistake.
01:55This is how Bill, I want to say, always ran the Patriots and largely has carried himself.
02:01I mean, for Pete's sake, he got here and immediately started dumping on the Cleveland Browns.
02:06And he wasn't let out of that contract from the Jets in 1999, 2000, and immediately started dumping on the league.
02:15You saw it every time he hit the podium.
02:17What we do with the NFL Network, Mike.
02:19What we do with the NFL, Mike.
02:20Oh, yeah, right.
02:21Turn it like a child.
02:22A child.
02:23It's how he's always carried himself.
02:25Maybe it's gotten worse.
02:26Maybe it's just being laid bare because he's lost his touch as a football coach and the winning has stopped.
02:32But this is Bill Belichick.
02:34And credit the league owners if they knew it.
02:36And they said, we're not, no matter what Bill said or what he promised any owner, this was how he was going to do it.
02:43It was about him.
02:44It was about him first and the winning second.
02:47And that may have been the biggest lie of all during Bill Belichick's tenure here that he did whatever it took to win.
02:53That was the case.
02:54He wouldn't have kept Malcolm Butler on the bench.
02:57If that were the case, Brady never would have been a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.
03:00And so we'll get into the story more.
03:02It's a fascinating story.
03:03That will be one of the topics today on Agenda Free Friday.
03:05That's my opening take.
03:06Who's next?
03:07I'll go because it's football related.
03:08Because even for me, a notorious grump can admit that last night for a season opener, that game was kind of awesome.
03:14You got spitting.
03:15You got ejections.
03:17Skirmishes.
03:17Real divisional hate.
03:19Touchdowns left and right.
03:20Then, of course, it all went to hell because of the lawyers.
03:22They don't know the chance of storms and lightning.
03:24But I get it.
03:25There's nothing we can do about that.
03:27Bitching about that is screaming into the void.
03:29Make no mistake, though.
03:30That delay marred the product.
03:31Dallas lost all the momentum.
03:33C.D. Lamb's hands turned into frying pans.
03:35And when they resumed play, it wasn't the same.
03:37But again.
03:37Did C.D. Lamb's hands turn into frying pans?
03:40Or was he C.D. Lamb?
03:41Maz.
03:42Well, this is Maz's guy.
03:43This is Maz's guy.
03:44Yeah, I'm standing by him.
03:46He had a bad night.
03:46He's not in that elite group.
03:47His hands aren't that bad.
03:48Not in that elite group.
03:50His hands aren't that bad now.
03:51He does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath with Jefferson and Chase.
03:55And you saw why last night.
03:56No, he didn't have a bad game.
03:58He had a bad game.
03:59Check Mark Murray and Felder.
04:01He's a damn good player.
04:02Murray, it's your opening take.
04:03Proceed.
04:04That's not what I'm here to bitch about, though.
04:05The weather and the lighting and all that.
04:06There was one thing, though, that happened in that game last night that cannot stand
04:10going forward this season throughout the league.
04:13And if it does, you're going to end up seeing me locked in a padded room.
04:16Because that's the taunting penalty.
04:19Eagles, Nolan Smith, I'm sure you saw it.
04:21Attack of the Cowboys running back.
04:23All he did was hulk up over him.
04:25That's it.
04:26He didn't try to mock pee on him like a dog.
04:28Didn't raise his leg.
04:29Didn't try to mimic like he was playing ookie cookie.
04:31Didn't try to flip him the double bird.
04:33He hulked up over him.
04:35That is not taunting.
04:36What Nolan Smith did is completely harmless.
04:38What's hooky cookie?
04:40I can't explain on the air.
04:42Okay, go ahead.
04:42It's off the air.
04:43Proceed.
04:43Proceed.
04:44Someone in the audience got it.
04:46Nobody was offended by what Nolan Smith did last night.
04:48Nobody asked for this.
04:49This kind of thing is not going to make the children join a gang.
04:51False statement.
04:52Join a gang.
04:53False statement.
04:54How?
04:55Well, you were offended by it?
04:56I don't know if offended's the right word.
04:57It's a good call.
04:57No, it's not.
04:58No, it's not.
04:59It's trash.
04:59You side with the cops.
05:00You always do.
05:01You love the refs.
05:02I'm a rules guy, Murray.
05:03And you're the worst.
05:05And you're the person that's going to ruin the league.
05:07We're not doing this.
05:08If you want me and others to stop bitching about the dirtbag officials, this isn't going
05:12to help.
05:13And it's only going to make it worse.
05:14So to the NFL front office, Goodell, the 32 owners, you, I would strongly suggest you
05:20pull a Cracker Barrel and react to the online outrage, which was rightfully so, and quickly
05:25reverse course.
05:26Did Cracker Barrel go back to the original logo?
05:28They did.
05:28Oh, no way.
05:29Because people bitched enough.
05:30Sometimes bitching works.
05:31Interesting.
05:31And people are right to bitch about this.
05:33Because this is the kind of call that will start actually making people turn this off.
05:37You can't call that.
05:38That's stupid.
05:39It's a classic Dallas Cowboys move from a stupid, ridiculous franchise.
05:44Everyone knows the rules.
05:45The Eagles did it.
05:46He even got the team wrong.
05:47He had to be, I'm a man.
05:49Oh, how do you like me now?
05:52Clown.
05:5215 yards.
05:53It was the Eagles.
05:54I'm sorry?
05:55You said Dallas Cowboys.
05:56It was the Eagles.
05:57I thought it was a Cowboys player.
05:59No, it was the Eagles.
06:00You just love flags.
06:02You can't even get it right.
06:03More yellow.
06:04Why am I confused on that?
06:05Because it's logical that you would say Dallas Cowboys.
06:07Yeah, right.
06:08It felt like a Dallas Cowboys.
06:08But it was the Eagles.
06:09All right.
06:10In fact, the Eagles were really the problem on the field last night.
06:13I still like the call.
06:14Maz, your point.
06:15So this actually happened at the very end of the show yesterday.
06:19As Felger and Maz was breaking up, we did some of it on the baseball hour.
06:22But Jeff Passan put out his free agency primer last night because, and this is a smart move
06:30by Passan as a total aside, because the games mean everything now in September and October,
06:34and you're not going to have time to do a free agent primer until you get to November,
06:38at which point everybody's going to do a free agent primer.
06:40So do it now.
06:42And in his primer, he mentioned Alex Bregman as the third best available free agent on the market.
06:50And his write-up about Bregman included this paragraph.
06:54Barring an injury or catastrophic slump, he will opt out and join Kyle Tucker and Kyle Schwarber
07:02in a clear top tier among this winner's free agents.
07:06Period.
07:07End of paragraph.
07:08Not he might.
07:09He will.
07:11Which tells me that Passan obviously has some inside info, be it from Scott Boris or someone else
07:16that is close to Bregman, indicating Bregman has already made up his mind.
07:20He's going to opt out.
07:22And the reason I bring this up now is don't get mad at Passan for writing it.
07:26Don't get mad at Boris for leaking it.
07:29This was always a possibility.
07:31And they're putting it out there so teams can plan.
07:33This is business.
07:35This is part of the deal.
07:36But those of you who did not want the Red Sox to add at the trading deadline, and there
07:42was someone who called in last night who said they should pretty much shut down Crochet,
07:49back off of Baio and Giolito, give everybody extra rest, and just accept the fact that they
07:55will be a second or third wildcard team in the playoffs.
08:00That was on our show, right?
08:01No, it was actually in the baseball.
08:02You got another one?
08:03Yes, and I lost my marbles over this one in particular.
08:06You can't take these postseason runs for granted.
08:10My God.
08:11People have gotten so selfish and spoiled here when it comes to the winning that you actually
08:18think it's easy.
08:18And I understand why you think that way, because for 20 years, this city was on a ridiculous
08:24run.
08:25Although the Red Sox oscillated from good to suck for the last 15 years or so, let's call
08:31it 10 at least, you can't just say, we'll be there next year.
08:37Cannot do it.
08:38It's a disservice to the guys who are playing.
08:41It's a disservice to the fans who are watching.
08:44If you don't give a rat's ass, then don't give a rat's ass.
08:47You know, I think that's what it is, Maz.
08:49I think there's just fewer and fewer people who enjoy the games, the competition.
08:53Holy crap.
08:54You don't want to see playoff baseball.
08:56Wow.
08:56You don't want to try and win playoff games.
08:58They follow by a stat sheet or whatever.
08:59They want to be like, you know, pseudo GMs.
09:01I heard this.
09:02I heard you lose your mind.
09:03You're like, what?
09:03Shut Bayo down next?
09:05Driving home.
09:05I did.
09:06I lost my mind last night on the baseball.
09:07Those games and those nights are what it's all about.
09:09You haven't had them in years.
09:11I just, I honestly think, man, maybe it's worse than baseball.
09:15These kids say they just watch the highlights on their phone.
09:17They don't really watch the games.
09:19They're not into it.
09:20They're not into it.
09:21I guess.
09:22I don't know.
09:23Don't you want to watch playoff baseball, playoff anything?
09:25How about even just September games?
09:27It's been four years since you've had this kind of race and played meaningful baseball in September.
09:32Now it's here and you want to shut down your pitchers?
09:35What's wrong with you?
09:36What's wrong with you?
09:38What's wrong with you?
09:42Well, you've got to move on.
09:43What's wrong with you?
09:43I'll say goodbye.
09:45What's wrong with you?
