00:02Boeing Defense said Thursday will begin hiring permanent replacement workers
00:05for striking members of the International Association of Machinists
00:08and Aerospace Workers in the St. Louis area, and according to Reuters,
00:12the strike began on August 4th, and the 3200 IEM District 837 members
00:16voted to reject Boeing's four-year contract offer.
00:19The offer included a 20% wage increase, more vacation and sick leave,
00:23and a 5,000-hour ratification bonus.
00:25UU leaders criticized Boeing's move, urging the company to resume talks
00:28instead of replacing dedicated generational and skilled workers.
00:32Boeing said production has slowed down some programs,
00:34but vowed to keep supporting customers.
00:36The company is holding a job fair on September 16th,
00:38and will acquire new hires to undergo the same training and certifications
00:42as current employees.
