00:00The European Commission continues to fiercely defend its trade deal with the United States.
00:08It's been receiving mounting criticism from members of the European Parliament
00:11and fresh tariff threats from Donald Trump are casting doubt over the agreement's viability.
00:17Do you take this threat seriously? Do you see it as a new chapter in the trade war?
00:22And do you think you can hold your ground and defend our sovereignty after making so many concessions to Trump?
00:32Thank you. Thank you very much.
00:34I think that if you look at from the perspective, the first and foremost,
00:40I would ask the question, and you are a high-quality journalist, so we will be able to do the comparison.
00:46Tell me who got a better deal than the European Union. Just tell me.
00:51I would like to read it, you know, show me.
00:53Under the deal, which is already in effect, the majority of EU goods bound for the U.S. are subject to a 15% tariff.
01:02In contrast, the majority of U.S. goods bound for the EU are exempt from duties.
01:07A certain group of products are not taxed when they benefit from a 0-4-0 scheme.
01:13Brussels, however, fail to negotiate the inclusion of wines and spirits, a strategic sector for the bloc.
01:19As it is, I think it is really true.
01:23As it is, I think it is a question.
01:25I do not think of the public as well.
01:27I think the provision of IT is a good way that we can access the ∈q.
01:29If you look at the date of the EU, it is a good list.
01:31I think the purpose is a good place.
01:34I think the purpose is to record the whole community.
01:39The purpose of the EU arise is that the space is a good place to be able to accomplish.
01:42The bulk of the EU is a good place to be able to support the world.
01:45It is a good place to be able to do it.
03:47Travelling round Calcada da Gloria towards Restoradores Square, in the heart of the Portuguese capital, lost control and crashed violently into a building.
03:55The accident also injured dozens, five of whom were taken to Lisbon's main hospitals to receive treatment for critical injuries.
04:04Four Portuguese nationals, two Germans and one Korean citizen are among the fatalities.
04:09A family of three was also on board with the father dying at the scene.
04:16The accident was most likely caused by a broken cable.
04:20This is certainly the accident more tragic than a memory of the transports in Lisbon.
04:25Pelo elevador da glória passam todos os dias milhares of people.
04:28Many locals, but also many tourists, especially tourists and strangers.
04:33The United Arab Emirates warned Israel that any move to annex the occupied West Bank could potentially call in to question
05:03diplomat Anwar Gargash wrote in a post on X that violating the prospects for a two-state solution and moving in on the occupied West Bank would, quote, end regional integration.
05:13His post linked to another Emirati official who spoke to Israeli media and who issued a similar warning, implying that the fate of the historic accords could be called into question.
05:25The UAE was the driving force behind the Abraham Accords, brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump in his first term in office, which also saw Israel establish diplomatic ties with Bahrain and Morocco.
05:37The warning came as Israel pushes ahead with its latest major offensive on the famine-stricken Gaza City.
05:45Israeli strikes continued late on Wednesday.
05:47Local health officials said at least 113 people were killed within 24 hours.
05:56The vice president of the American Humane Society visited the Rex Dog Shelter Foundation in Budapest to sign a cooperation agreement with the Hungarian government
06:05and the R-Common Causes Animal Protection Foundation.
06:09The nearly 150-year-old American NGO is involved in the rescue, care and protection of animals worldwide.
06:17Its international branch, the Global Humane Society, issues animal welfare certificates for zoos, agriculture, tourism and the film industry.
06:25The Hungarian government's commissioner for animal protection said the agreement showed that Hungary's progress in animal protection was internationally recognized.
06:36The vice president stressed that protecting animal welfare is a fundamental social and moral obligation.
06:41In terms of the cooperation agreement, to me this is the first step in terms of what we could do between global human society
06:48and all the different stakeholders and partners within Hungary, whether it be zoos aquariums, whether it be the farm production sector, whether it be film studios and TV studios and so on.
07:00According to the organization, the cooperation agreement offers Hungary an opportunity not only to follow, but also to shape changes in animal protection in Europe.
07:08The global humane society is active in almost 60 countries.
07:33In the coming years, it hopes to share its expertise through new partnerships within the European Union.
07:4330 delegations, most of them European, are meeting in Paris today at the Élysée Presidential Palace just behind me under what's being called the Coalition of the Willing.
07:56Their key message, we are ready, ready to offer Ukraine security guarantees once the fighting stops to make sure that Russia does not attack again.
08:08But what exactly the so-called reassurance force will look like is still unclear.
08:13EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke of a multinational force while the British talk about sending demining teams.
08:22For now, diplomats do not want to give us any more detail, but one thing is for sure, nothing will happen before an actual ceasefire.
08:32For now, Europe is waiting on the U.S.
08:36Leaders are expecting President Donald Trump to spell out what kind of American backstop or safety net he is willing to provide
08:43and whether he is ready to increase the pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
08:48Aid agencies have urged the international community to send much-needed funding to Afghanistan
08:56after a major earthquake killed at least 1,400 people and injured thousands more.
09:05Only a handful of countries have committed money since the 6.0 magnitude quake struck several mountainous provinces,
09:12leaving villages trapped under rubble.
09:14The European Union and the United Kingdom are donating one million each to help with the cash going to aid organisations
09:24and sidestepping the Taliban government, which they do not recognise.
09:30Australia and South Korea have also donated one million each.
09:36Taliban authorities have appealed for international help, despite deep aid cuts that have befallen the government.
09:44International funding to Afghanistan has fallen dramatically since the Taliban took over,
09:49with only 28% of the humanitarian funding target met this year.
09:55Without aid, rescue teams have struggled to reach affected communities in the rugged Qunar region,
10:01where roads are blocked by landslides and rockfalls.
10:05The earthquake is the third major quake since the Taliban seized power in 2021
10:10and the latest crisis to beset the country.
10:14Afghanistan is reeling from deep cuts to aid funding,
10:17a weak economy,
10:19and millions of people forcibly return from Iran and Pakistan.
10:27Hot mics captured what appear to be a private conversation
10:31between Russian President Vladimir Putin
10:33and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping
10:35discussing the prospects for immortality.
10:37The pair were seen speaking as they walked through the historic Tiananmen Square in Beijing on Wednesday
10:43while attending China's World War II Victory Day military parade.
10:49Footage distributed by Chinese state media showed the two leaders speaking via translators,
10:54musing over the possibility of living forever.
10:56President Xi responded to Putin's remarks noting that humans may live up to 150 years old,
11:24as soon as within this century,
11:26citing progress in biotechnology.
