00:00Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak failed in his attempt at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday
00:09to obtain leave to cite Tan Sri Ahmad Teriruddin Mohd Saleh for contempt.
00:14This follows claims by Najib that the former Attorney General concealed the existence of a royal addendum order
00:21that could have allowed Najib to be placed under house arrest.
00:25The court dismissed Najib's application for leave after finding that he could not prove prima facie in the case for contempt.
00:34The court said Ahmad Teriruddin merely embarked on a filtering process to his officers
00:39when the Attorney General's chambers made the objection.
00:43It said the act of contempt alleged is the direction given by the respondent to advance false arguments
00:50and deny the existence of the addendum order, and the allegations are mere speculation
00:56in the absence of clear evidence showing that the respondent personally did as alleged.
01:03Najib contended that Ahmad Teriruddin had committed contempt of court
01:06when he directed his senior federal counsels to object to Najib's application for leave
01:11to initiate judicial review linked to the addendum order.
01:15The court then ordered Najib to pay costs of 20,000 ringgit to the respondent.
01:21The application for leave to cite Ahmad Teriruddin for contempt
01:25is linked to Najib's application for leave to commence judicial review over the addendum order.
01:31Last month, the federal court upheld a two-to-one majority decision by the Court of Appeal
01:36instructing that Najib's judicial review application on the addendum order
01:40be remitted back to the High Court for a full hearing.
01:43on the end.
