00:05The Gloria Funicular, a popular tourist attraction, lost control, careened down the hill and crashed

00:11into a building at around 6pm local time.

00:14Lisbon's mayor offered his condolences to those who died.

00:19I deeply regret the lives lost and all the suffering caused.

00:23At this moment, what matters is to act, support the families, assist the injured and ensure

00:29all necessary support to the authorities on the ground.

00:34Emergency crews worked to pull people from the toppled streetcar.

00:37Authorities say the accident is the worst in the city's recent history.

00:59The company which operates the funicular insisted there were recent inspections.
