Christopher Jackson reflects on the last ten years of 'Hamilton,' saying he's filled with "a lot of gratitude," while chatting with THR at the premiere for the movie experience. Plus, he talks about the end of 'And Just Like That' and working with the cast.
00:00Ten years of Hamilton. What's going through your mind?
00:03A lot of gratitude, a lot of surprise, and just being able to see people, you know, as always.
00:09It's been a summer for that. It was anticipated. It has not disappointed.
00:12When you think back on the last ten years, is there one specific memory that really touches your heart more than others?
00:18Maybe whether it was a moment on stage or someone that came to see the show or a fan interaction?
00:24You know, the great thing is that, you know, I did the show for two years, and before that I worked on it for five.
00:27So there's so many of those moments, and every day there's 15 different things that I remember and think about and smile about.
00:34And I just feel with gratitude because things like this are special because they don't come along this often.
00:42And yet here we are getting to, you know, touch home ten years later and be around the people that help create these things for themselves, for the collective, for me.
00:52Like, I'm just really grateful to just be here.
00:53Yeah, for sure.
00:55And, you know, when you think back on ten years, when you think back on the lyrics and maybe a song that really sticks out to you and that people quote back to you the most, what's one that sticks out to you?
01:06I have had songs quoted to me that I was not in.
01:10I have had quotes of lyrics that were not mine, that I didn't sing.
01:14All of them.
01:14Really, it's been all of them.
01:15Like, all of them.
01:18I was walking down the street last week and someone recognized me, and as they got about 50 feet from the other direction, they yelled out, George Washington!
01:27I was like, yep, there it goes.
01:28I never even turned around.
01:29I just had to go.
01:30Very quickly.
01:31And also, what was it like to say goodbye to And Just Like That and say goodbye to your character?
01:36We stopped shooting in October, and I've been in touch with, you know, you stay in touch with as many people as you can.
01:44When you get to make TV, you never do it with the expectation or the assumption that it continues.
01:50That's why every day that you're doing it needs to be your best day, you know, and not just in front of the camera, but behind the scenes.
01:56All the great conversations, all of the great time spent, all of the things sort of figured out together.
02:02It's a big puzzle you have to try to put together.
02:03So, while I'm, the thing that brings me the most sadness is not that the show isn't continuous, it's just I'm not going to get to see those people on a regular basis.
02:12And it was a company full of extraordinary people.
