00:00Revelations about long-term environmental pollution sparking protests in Darwin today.
00:09For the previous 20 years, so that's most of my life living here in the NT, there has
00:14been a massive methane gas leak.
00:18Someone needs to be accountable for what's been happening over the last 20 years.
00:23In Adelaide 2, outrage over gas giant Santos keeping news of the gas leak secret for years
00:32and their plans to continue using the defective tank for its new Barossa project.
00:36It is not just Darwin's issue, it's not just a territory issue, this is a huge issue for
00:42all of Australia and for all of our climate.
00:45It is a danger to all of us.
00:47Hoping to deliver their message directly to Santos CEO Kevin Gallagher, the group descended
00:52on the conference for NT Resources Week.
00:55We also expect Santos to front up and face the community.
00:59But their target was a no-show, Mr Gallagher cancelling plans to deliver his keynote speech.
01:04Instead, the company's vice president outlined plans to inject carbon pollution into the seabed.
01:10It's a controversial idea, still unproven, but Santos says will help reduce emissions.
01:16And that's becoming even more important with the Barossa project north of here nearing completion
01:21and the company's plans to expand into the Beedaloo Basin.
01:26Despite widespread community concern, the vice president sending a message the company
01:31can be trusted.
01:32There is no better operator than Santos to bring the energy, economic and social potential
01:37of the Beedaloo to life.
01:40We can leave the ideology to our friends out the front with their flags and their drums.
01:45Also today, Japanese oil and gas giant INPEX flagging its own major expansion.
01:51We won the company's plan to make sure that they're ready to be recorded for their
02:04part in the future.
02:07We'll see you here in the future.
