Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump was asked if there will be a government shutdown.
Transcript
00:00Mr. President, at the end of this month, the government or the Congress has to pass a budget.
00:05Do you think we can avoid a government shutdown?
00:07Yeah, I do. I think the Republicans will vote for an extension.
00:11We won't have any Democrat votes.
00:12We could give the greatest budget ever.
00:15A tax cut of 50 percent, everybody taken care of, perfect for women, perfect for men, perfect for minorities, perfect for everything,
00:23and we wouldn't get one vote for the Democrats because they've lost their mind.
00:26They are so deranged. They have Trump derangement syndrome, and I don't want to burn the Republican Party with it,
00:34but they really are. They've become almost sick.
00:39You know, they actually think there is a disease. It's called Trump derangement syndrome.
00:44They've got it. No matter what we did, no matter how good, you could give them everything that they've ever dreamed of,
00:52and you wouldn't get one vote.
00:53But these are sick people, and I think we're going to have a tremendous midterm.
00:57We just approved the largest tax decrease in the history of our country.
01:02We have things, when you think of it, no tax on tips, no tax on social security for our seniors,
01:08no tax on overtime, deductions when you buy a car and you borrow money to buy a car.
01:14First time they've ever seen a thing like this.
01:16Middle-income people get deductions.
01:17You get a deduction when you buy a car. Nobody's ever seen.
01:21And by the way, they're selling cars like crazy. Cars are pouring back because of the fact that we have tariffs.
01:27Cars are pouring back into our car. Plants are pouring back into our nation.
01:32They're coming from all over the world. They're coming back.
01:34You know, we lost about 54 percent of automobile manufacturing over a 30-year period, 35-year period.
01:41They're all coming back.
01:42I think they're coming back higher than ever before. We have AI going up.
01:46What we've done is amazing, and what we've passed is amazing.
01:50But the Democrats, I don't believe, will get one vote.
01:55It's very anti-crime. We want anti-crime.
01:58They're in favor of crime. We're against crime.
02:01You know, they gave us things like men playing in women's sports, open borders for everybody, transgender for everybody.
02:10I mean, they want a transgender for all of the crazy things that they were saying.
02:14And, you know, people would say they're 80-20 issues.
02:17I say they were 97 to 3. I always say 97 to 3, and nobody knows who the 3 are.
02:22This is the best issue of all.
02:24They are against preventing crime.
02:26They are fighting us.
02:29I want to go into Chicago and have this incompetent governor that doesn't want us.
02:33Do you know that this weekend, 72 people were shot in Chicago?
02:38I'm embarrassed to say it in front of the president of Poland.
02:4111 people were killed.
02:4372 people were shot.
02:45Last week, 7 people were killed in Chicago.
02:49A place which is probably your number one place.
02:52I hate to say it.
02:53Yeah, I love the polls in Chicago.
02:54And we've got to keep it safe.
02:55But 7 people were killed.
02:58The week before that, 5 people were killed.
03:00And 21 people were shot.
03:02This is in 3 weeks.
03:04So in 3 weeks, I lost almost 35 people were killed.
03:09It could have been stopped.
03:11If you look at Washington, D.C., 3 weeks ago, it was the same or worse.
03:17And now it's considered a totally safe zone.
03:20Restaurants are open.
03:21They're bustling.
03:22Restaurants, you have to see, restaurants were dying.
03:25Nobody wanted to go out.
03:26They didn't want to be attacked.
03:27They didn't want to be mugged.
03:28They didn't want to be attacked, even in the restaurant.
03:31And you take a look at what's happened.
03:33Friends of mine that haven't gone to a restaurant in four years,
03:36one of them went out five times in the last two weeks to a restaurant with his family.
03:42They feel totally safe.
03:43Washington, D.C. is a totally safe city.
03:47You're not reporting any crime because there is none.
03:50They said crime is down 87%.
03:52And I said, no, it's not.
03:53It's down 100%.
03:54We have a great thing going.
03:56I could do that with Chicago.
03:58We could do that with New York.
04:00We could do it with Los Angeles.
04:01So we're making a determination now.
04:04Do we go to Chicago or do we go to a place like New Orleans,
04:09where we have a great governor, Jeff Landry,
04:11who wants us to come in and straighten out a very nice section of this country
04:18that's become quite, you know, quite tough, quite bad.
04:23So we're going to be going to maybe Louisiana.
04:27And you have New Orleans, which has a crime problem.
04:30We'll straighten that out in about two weeks.
04:31It'll take us two weeks easier than D.C.
04:34But we could straighten out Chicago.
04:36All they have to do is ask us to go into Chicago
04:40if we don't have the support of some of these politicians.
04:43But I'll tell you who is supporting us, the people of Chicago.
04:47And I sort of want them to let it be known they have incompetent people.
04:52A guy like Gavin Newsom, he's the governor of a state,
04:55that if we didn't go in, if we didn't go into Los Angeles with our soldiers,
05:00with our National Guard, you wouldn't even be having the Olympics there.
05:04They were going to take it.
05:05And remember this, your top law enforcement officer in Los Angeles said,
05:10there's no way we could have done this without President Trump coming in with the troops.
05:16We saved Los Angeles and we saved the Olympics.
05:19Thank you very much.
05:20The President of the House of Representatives
05:20National Guard on a National Guard.
05:21Mr. President, Mr. President, Mr. President,
05:22President Trump isangu蕪igalnya.
05:23The President
