00:00I'm very grateful to Jay and RJ Cutler who make great documentaries and for asking me to do this
00:09because I would have never thought to try to make a documentary. It's not something I know how to do
00:14and it's exciting to do something that would have been done and when they asked me to do a film on
00:21Mark I thought no I can't do that it's too much pressure it would have to be good because he's
00:25my friend and I love him and then I kept thinking about oh it would be so fun to look through all the
00:31archives and revisit we've been friends for 30 years and to get to revisit his incredible body
00:37of work that I grew up with and I think they were starting a new collection and I thought
00:43I would love to see really the whole process from the very beginning to the final show and so it was
00:50really yeah we came to the office with my brother and it was very personal I felt like a home movie
00:57and I sometimes I would just come alone with my camera and Mark was and his whole team I know
01:03and they were very open to us I wanted it to feel personal but it was a balance because I didn't want
01:08it to be about me but I wanted to have a sense of our friendship and that it was being made by
01:14uh a friend and you know not through my point of view so I wanted to feel like it was made by me and
01:21I wanted to make sure that the audience felt um included in the and then that it felt personal
01:25and they were brought in and never felt uh like it was the inside joke that they weren't a part of
01:30so that was something I I tried you know it was important to me um and then um and then just weeding
01:37together all the inspiration and references was really exciting also not to have a script or a
01:43plan so that part was um exciting and also you know you just it's a new process to find it in the
01:51editing room and I'm happy that my producers were were very uh gave me total you know support of just
02:00you know find your way and um so it was really yeah I feel a lucky experience
