00:00Originally what I pitched was just two iterations.
00:02It was called You vs. Future You.
00:05I think I said like two weeks later.
00:06And then Sam was like, let's do it a third time.
00:09I know I said I got to be better than myself tomorrow an hour ago,
00:13but I got to be better than myself an hour ago today.
00:15Something about the rhythm of that felt like it was going to really keep my players on their toes.
00:20These players were going to really give it their all each time,
00:24and thus it would be harder to outperform themselves on the second round,
00:27and especially on the third round.
00:28It's worth noting that your third attempt was better than Ify's first attempt.
00:34Hell yeah.
00:35How about that?
00:36Hell yeah.
00:37I'm athletic.
00:38Brennan was the first talent that sprung to mind.
00:40You think Ify because Ify is someone else who is not only competitive,
00:44but also just reads Olympian.
00:46And then Katie, to me, was the funniest choice.
00:52Katie just wouldn't do very well in round one.
00:56Unfortunately for Katie, going up against Katie is Katie, who, I really can't stress
01:01this enough, is the same person.
01:03There was a world in which Katie could actually beat Brennan and Ify for doing worse than round
01:10one and besting herself in every round.
01:12It didn't work out exactly that way, but I think some of that proved itself out.
01:16I was really surprised at just how often our players, like, rose to the occasion and bested themselves.
01:23That's a testament to the folks that we cast for this episode and just how competitive they are.
01:30I feel like we discovered who the two most competitive people at Dropout are.
01:34It's you and me.
01:35A hundred percent.
01:36A hundred percent.
01:37The concept of besting yourself sort of began to fall apart when the metric was a little bit more subjective.
01:42Draw the coolest picture on an Etch-a-Sketch, probably too creative.
01:46How many lemons can you hold?
01:48Eat the least rice.
01:50Build a house of cards.
01:52Catch marshmallows being thrown by Paul Robolino in your mouth.
01:56Get all of the items out of the Operation game while wearing drunk goggles.
02:00Perform Fergie's Fergalicious rap from memory.
02:04Haha, listen.
02:05I only poured one song this season.
02:07I gave Sam a hug and it felt like his suit is different.
02:10Is that a clue?
02:11When we reached out to the cast, we had to book them for two separate episodes
02:17without them knowing that it was the same episode.
02:19They came in and played a quick, easy round of classic Game Changer.
02:23Sam came up with this idea that
02:26we would interrupt that first day of shooting with a car alarm that wouldn't stop.
02:30So we'd have to call Cut and say,
02:32sorry guys, we have to call it a day.
02:33Hey, Art Department.
02:34Daddy, did you work?
02:35I was trying to brainstorm pretenses for why we were bringing them back.
02:41What if we tell them that there is some element of animation that's going to happen
02:45and we're actually going to be animating the things that they did on that first day?
02:48What if we tell them that there's going to be some sort of behavioral analyst or psychologist
02:52that's going to assess what they did on that day and they would have to face the consequences of this or that?
02:57I was trying to plant the seeds of doubt in their minds so they wouldn't come back knowing
03:01it was just going to be a repeat of the games and I don't think that they caught on.
03:05We were shooting in a new studio space that was really well soundproofed
03:09so we couldn't actually have a car alarm going off outside
03:13because we couldn't hear it when we were inside the studio.
03:16I employed some of my editing skills to a car alarm sound effect to make it sound a little muffled.
03:22We know who started.
03:24This has been going on for a minute.
03:26Should we cut?
03:27I'm really happy to say it worked like a charm and everybody really bought it.
03:31I guess we'll see you later.
03:33See ya.
03:34Yes.
03:35What the heck?
03:36I think that footage exists of Brennan still trying to help me solve the car alarm problem.
03:42I don't know what the fuck is going on.
03:43Yeah, I cannot.
03:45I see you.
03:47Stop it.
03:48Are you rolling?
03:49It was very funny to see if he come back after the first day of shooting wearing
03:54almost the exact same outfit as what he was wearing the first day.
03:57What are y'all already?
03:58Come on.
03:59Yeah, you are in a weird place.
04:00Oh, you're in a weird place today?
04:02Hell yeah.
04:03I can't sleep last night.
04:05I drove from Vegas.
04:07Damn.
04:08And to find out that he basically spent it partying in Las Vegas all weekend
04:14was just the icing on the cake in terms of like setting him up for potential failure.
04:20But he actually, I mean, he did great.
04:22That's Friday iffy.
04:23We may be wearing some of the same clothes.
04:28But that iffy did not spend two days in Las Vegas walking around.
04:33And that iffy is not currently wearing Crocs like I am.
04:36I'm flying in at a massive disadvantage.
04:39Have you been in the same clothes since Friday?
04:42Would that be weird if that was true?
04:45Our wonderful graphic designer Madeline Lum had a really, really heavy lift this season.
04:50She designed those flags for us and she designed the Olympics logo for us.
04:54They were sort of the symbols that represent the nations of our players.
04:58For Brennan, we had the stripes of the shirt that he's known for wearing on D20 and almonds,
05:03his snack.
05:04Katie had her dog, of course, and cocaine and eggs.
05:07If you think of Katie, those are the three things you think of.
05:10Iffy's flag was his alien character from VIP and a peach because peaches are butts
05:17and that's cute and we love peach butts.
05:19And weights because he's super buff and is a weight lifter.
05:22You are a representation of yourself and the nation that you're playing for in the games
05:30today.
05:31The nation of yourself.
05:32Get ready to eat my dust, Marilyn.
05:33Stop it!
05:34Get ready to eat my dust.
05:35We're having a beautiful moment, Brennan.
05:38The Olympics was crazy and I would say probably one of the more challenging episodes for me.
05:44In that context that people really rely on me to say who did what, what was the score,
05:49what was the number, who won this round.
05:51And that information people want very quickly.
05:54I was keeping track of things that I'd never in my life think I'd keep track of.
05:58How much Parmesan cheese can somebody eat?
06:01How long can you get a cat to sit on your lap?
06:03In that time, I'm sort of in the background like quickly with Paul.
06:07We're checking, is that a monster?
06:09Is that real?
06:10Did you just make that up?
06:11Did you say that already?
06:12Cabalache.
06:13Cabalache?
06:14Cabalache.
06:15Cabalache.
06:16Cabalache.
06:17Cabalache.
06:18Yeah.
06:19It's not a pasta shape I've had, but I've only been to Italy twice.
06:24Are you looking up?
06:26Cabalache, yeah.
06:27I'm sorry for doubting you, Ify.
06:29That's really kind of what the game came down to, is those really kind of finer details.
06:33Princess for round three of the Olympic Games.
06:36Prince.
06:41When Sam approached me to find some performers for Olympics, I was already like very, very excited
06:47because you can kind of go anywhere with an opening ceremony and how dramatic you want it to be.
06:53The Crumpers did not know that they were going to be actually crumping to any sort of opera music,
07:00which made it a lot more fun for them as a dancer and a performer.
07:04They killed it.
07:05Good for your pride, good for your help, everybody try.
07:12Amber was fantastic.
07:14The versatility within her actual vocal range was something that I know that we wanted to highlight for this episode of Game Changer.
07:22We ended up getting Michael Rayner, who's one of the funniest, most dynamic jugglers on the internet for a tiny little cameo.
07:29He comes in juggling a tiny racket the first time we do it, and then the second time he comes out and the racket has grown ten times that size.
07:36Theatrically speaking, there's almost nothing I love more in comedy than something that like pops in and pops out.
07:42Me and Ash have a little routine where we did a couple spin moves.
07:51I think I did like an air basket, and then we're like, we need a big finale.
07:56And so I'm pretty sure I ended up in her arms.
07:58And me and Ash, if you know us, we were theater kids in high school.
08:02There's never going to be a props job where they're like, oh, by the way, can you just be on camera for that?
08:07We love it.
08:08I do believe Katie can best her own personal best if she simply believes in herself.
08:12Thank you so much.
08:13Let's just hope she doesn't psych herself out before she starts the actual challenge.
08:16Let's pray she doesn't choke.
08:17It would be very easy for her to choke.
08:18Stop it!
08:19We were brainstorming this.
08:20We were like, absolutely announcers.
08:22There are a few different versions of this, one where I was sort of playing the role of announcer the whole time, one where I was sharing that duty with a co-host, and the version that I ended up being most excited about was the one where we got two comedians to play announcer who would almost never look at the players directly but only provide meta commentary as to what was happening on stage.
08:44Ify activating the uncle mode on his shoes.
08:48He is wearing, in fact, the worst possible shoes for this.
08:51Crocs famously go underwater.
08:53I'd like to remind Sam that Ify did actually need the Crocs as well.
08:57As I always say, don't trust a man wearing Pokemon gibbets.
09:00First of all, these are Jujutsu Kaisen gibbets.
09:05It seems that Brennan and Katie have done private training with Barilla in between last week and this week.
09:12It was fun to have that opportunity in this case to build the commentator desk that looks like it's in our vibe.
09:18We also were leaning on Demi and Jordan to kind of get us in and out of our flashbacks, but we realized pretty quickly that if we use these graphic treatments, we don't have to, like, have Jordan and Demi tee them up every time.
09:31Sometimes we can just jump right into it.
09:33Some of that stuff was scripted, but a lot of their reactions to Brennan, Katie, and Ify were just off the cuff.
09:40I know that you guys are saying what's written on the prompter and I don't hold it against you personally, but I will find out who's writing these mean things.
09:45Brennan's already mistaken, not off to a great start.
09:48Oh no!
09:49We're literally not reading what's on the prompter.
09:52That's from the heart?!
09:53What the fuck?!
09:54There is a prompter, but we're just speaking the truth.
09:56This is an actual...
