Belgium to recognise Palestine at the UN General Assembly

Belgium joins the ranks of Australia, France, Canada and the UK, all who have pledged to recognise a Palestinian state at the UNGA next week in a bid to ramp up pressure on the Israeli government to end the war in Gaza and alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

00:01Belgium will recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly next week.
00:08Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost made the announcement in a post on X,
00:13adding that sanctions will also be imposed on the Israeli government.
00:17The decision averted a government crisis triggered by disagreements between parties
00:22about implementing harsher measures against Israel over its conduct in Gaza.
