Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has called on the United Nations to admit Palestine as a full member state, condemning ongoing violence by Israel. Speaking at the UN General Assembly after a French-led summit, Sánchez stressed that recognition alone is insufficient and urged immediate action to stop the conflict. “The state of Palestine must be a full UN member without delay,” he said, emphasizing that the process must be completed swiftly to ensure equality and foster peace in the region.
00:28Let us make this conference too a collective commitment to haltering brutality and to paving the way for peace.
00:53Excellencies, this conference marks a monumental step forward, but it is not the end of the road, it can only be the beginning.
01:04As such, I want to make two proposals.
01:05First, the State of Palestine must be a fully-fledged member of the United Nations.
01:10As soon as possible, we must conclude the procedure to admit the State of Palestine to this organisation on an equal footing with the rest of the states herein.
01:19Secondly, we have to immediately adopt measures to halt the brutality and make peace possible.
